Nairaland General › At Least 71 Dead After Cooking Stoves Exploded On Pakistan Train by Arizonaguy(op): 3:14pm On Oct 31, 2019 |
At least 71 people have died after two gas cooking stoves exploded on a train in Pakistan. An official from the emergency services said of the 43 people injured, 11 were still in critical condition. The ensuing fire destroyed three of the train's carriages as it approached the town of Liaquatpur in Punjab. The blaze raged through the train as firefighters struggled to get it under control Several of the injured jumped off the train, many to their deaths, after the fire broke out. Minister for railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said some of the passengers were trying to prepare breakfast on the stove as the train was moving, violating railway rules. He told Geo TV: "Two cooking stoves blew up. They were cooking, they had [cooking] oil which added fuel to fire." He added: "Most deaths occurred from people jumping off the train." Mr Ahmed said that passengers with little money often bring their own small gas stoves on the trains to cook their meals, despite the rules. Media reports suggested that railway officials did not notice passengers carrying individual gas stoves onto the train. However, safety regulations are often ignored on overcrowded trains. TV footage from the scene showed the flames raging through the train as firefighters struggled to get it under control. Another train has been dispatched to bring stranded passengers to the city of Rawalpindi. People watch as the fire burns uncontrollably The train was travelling in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province The critically injured are being taken in ambulances to the city of Multan, which is the largest city nearest to the site of the accident. Rescue workers searched the charred wreckage for survivors. Authorities said they were still trying to identify the victims. Mr Ahmed said the train had been travelling from the southern port city of Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province to the city of Rawalpindi when the fire broke out. People and rescue workers gather near the site after the fire was put out. Pakistan's military said troops were also participating in the rescue operation. President Arif Albi and Prime Minister Imran Khan have issued statements expressing their grief over the accident. It is the latest tragedy to hit the country's dilapidated and poorly maintained rail system. Eleven people were killed in an accident in July, four in another accident in September. In 2005, around 130 people were killed when a train rammed into another at a station in Sindh province, and a third train hit the wreckage. https://news.sky.com/story/pakistan-train-fire-kills-at-least-46-after-gas-canister-explodes-11849847

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu lamented on Thursday that mothers of cyber fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys are now organising themselves into an association. Magu who addressed journalists at the Lagos office of the commission in Ikoyi said such parents always justify their children's activities with the arguments that they were supporting their families in the place of irresponsible, runaway or dead fathers. Magu said the EFCC’s interest was not just to arrest the Yahoo boys but also to see to their rehabilitation. source: https://punchng.com/breaking-mothers-of-yahoo-boys-now-forming-association-magu/

post=83580362: We had not seen each other for about 30 years. The Lord has been kind to me. When I saw him again - this time at a hotel lobby - he was looking simple. He wore simple Ankara attire. I felt touched. He walked up to me and was glad to see me again. But deep within me I was not impressed with his status compared to mine and poor me, I couldn't hide it. We exchanged contact details and I could see the joy in him as he collected mine.
I told him I will drop him home in my brand new Range Rover and I pointed it to him. He declined and said he had already called for his car. It looked old, a 2001 Honda Accord.
I invited him the next day for lunch at my house. A part of me wanted to impress him - To show off my success and affluence to him, while another was to discuss opportunities and possibly help him.
He drove to Parkview where I lived. He looked impressed with my home. I had taken a heavy mortgage. In fact I was heavily in debt. We had lunch. He told me he was into small business and particularly real estate. I brought up more business discussions, but he didn't sound too interested. I asked him how I could help him. He said he was fine. I even told him if he was interested, I could help him secure some loans... He looked at me and smiled.
He told me he would invite me over soon to his place. His old car came for him. I was grateful to God for what I had. “Fingers are not all equal”, I thought to myself...I was lucky. I worked in a good place.
Two weeks later, we went to see him in Ikeja. My wife and I. She was reluctant to go because she was not impressed with the man's status as to warrant our visiting him in his house. I was able to convince her that we were close friends in college. We saw the Estate. *Wuraola Estate.* We asked for directions to his home. Those leading us spoke his name with deference.
It was a simple but lovely home. A 4 bedroom bungalow. I saw 4 cars parked in front. We entered his home. It was simply elegant with a touch of class inside. He welcomed us warmly.
Lunch was well served. His wife called him Baba Wuraola
During lunch, he asked about my MD. He said they were friends. I saw a company gift on one of his tables nearby. That company owned about 38% shares where I worked. I enquired from him about it. He smiled. He told me he owned the company. He also owned the estate.
I did not know when I called him sir... I was in awe of him too.
I had learnt a lesson in humility - A big one. Appearances are deceptive. He noticed my discomfort.
Driving back home, I was very quiet. My wife was humbled and extremely calm. I could perceive the thoughts in her mind. I looked at myself. Living on loans, heavy loans and showing off while someone who pays my salary is quite modest and living a simple life! Indeed Deeper Rivers Flow In Majestic Silence! This could pass as an interesting movie A box office hit Sell it off as a script |

Logan95: Good day house.
I meet my girlfriend recently in school, she's an undergraduate student while I'm a post graduate student.
She is a very beautiful girl and well endowed. For the few months we've dated she's one of a kind. She has a good heart, buys me stuffs even though I'm not poor, cleans my house and relates well with my sister to mention a few.
However she told me about her ex, she loved him and supported him financially because he was a student and broke.
We have been going smooth until this night she decided to tell me her past without me asking. She said I am too special but I have to know who she truly is.
She started by saying she's had two abortions for her ex, that she slept with many guys for money which she eventually spent on her ex. I was dumbfounded and I'm in a dilemma now. She just said I should forgive her that I don't deserve her.
I don't know how to tackle this majorly because she confessed without me asking and she did all these before I meet her. you seem to me to have figure out an answer to your dilemma but would rather us confirm your thought i say follow your mind |
Education › Re: IPPIS: Nigerian Lecturers Do Not Hold Multiple Full Time Lecturing Jobs by Arizonaguy(m): 7:54am On Oct 29, 2019 |
favouryemmy: Yes, it's true. Nigerian lecturers do not hold multiple full time lecturing jobs. It's a cheap blackmail by the FG to force the university staff to join IPPIS, which is against the extant laws that established the universities. A Lecturer is only allowed to do adjunct or visiting lecturing jobs, which are part time jobs. Before universities employ lecturers, they ensure that such persons do not hold any other full-time job before the appointment letters are issued. This is because they know that it's against the law to hold multiple full time jobs at same time when working in the public service.
Every country is guided by laws and the rule of law must be upheld by any government if not anarchy could set in. Universities do not just come into existence, every university is established only after the law establishing it has been made. Therefore universities have laws that are backing them as passed by the national assembly. In addition, there is an act of the national assembly that is dedicated to universities generally in the country.
Now, the law of universities all over the world and Nigeria establishes that universities must have governing councils, whose members are appointed by the visitor (the president, for federal universities and ; the governor for the state). These governing councils are by law vested with the responsibility of managing the university in terms of its employment, finances, etc. Therefore, university workers are responsible to their respective governing councils, which employed them. Remember also that they are employed by the visitor to manage the universities and they need not be redundant according to the law.
The law also states that any government policy that is contrary to the law should never supercede law. That means that the law is sacrosanct on such matters. The IPPIS will erroneously remove the power to manage the finances and employment of staff from the governing councils and this is against the law. The law of the land no matter whose ox is gored must supercede any contrary policy as is the case with the IPPIS. The government of the land must uphold the law as they swore to do.
If we must move forward as a country, we must learn to respect our laws else we would be inviting more anarchy in the country. I am typing this in order to educate the readers and to ensure that we do not fall for the cheap blackmail by the FG. Several MDAs that joined the IPPIS are currently regretting their decisions, due to its many disadvantages. Please check the links below. They do hold multiple employment which is why they are grossly ineffective it's against work ethics in any organisation inclusive of university to do part time jobs at the same time being fully employed They have sabbaticals, they can work as visiting academicians then These are one of those things that are damaging our education system it's not obtainable in saner climes...Those lecturers are damn too corrupt |

Pearl1996: Nairaland famiy I need help.
Somethings been eating me up. I had sex with my boyfriend some weeks later i started falling so sick I will try to point out all I can remember *Came down with what I felt was fever was burning hot so hot you just need to come close to feel the heat
*at night I sweat. Not just the usual sweat but one I have to change my clothes two times a nigbt(this happened for like a week)
* I started feeling so cold especially in the morning. Doctor said it was pneumonia + a cough that lasted for three weeks plus.
*and the rashes I ve never have in my whole life spreaded all over my arms and back as well as my breast region.
* I also had serious muscle ache. Serious that my mom had to help me massage it. My neck did hurt too it felt like someone hit me with a blank on my neck
* nodes on my neck, groin, as well as ear. * I started having blurred vision and sores on my lips like fever blisters
* and then injuries in my mouth, weird ones * I have oral trush at least thats what I thought them to be. White tongue I have had this before but this onr is different. With slimy white things in my mouth every time
*I also experienced dehydration and dry mouth. * also had a delayed flow
The symptoms are so much I can't even mention it all. Most of these lasted for about a month +. I still have cold till this day. I shiver most times and its my major fear. And the rashes are still there.
This Is the major problem. The nurse who was handling me said it might be an STD maybe HIV I took plethora of test including HIV after 3 months all came back negative, I was told to wait 6montgs to check for HIv again it was still negativr. During this month I have seen so many doctors, private and government all they do is givr me drugs but I still experience the pneumonia cold( no cough) and occasional mouth sores as well as the rash. My boyfriend now my ex took HIV too it was negative. Please doctors in the house what can this be. I have read so many threads here on naira land of people who had same experience but some later turned + they might be lying though.
I heard after 6 months and test is still negative then its not it. My question now is. What is wrong with me. I have spent so much on drugs and test. And no doctor is able to say what my problem is. Its making me crazy as I am even scared to shower because of the cold and I can't let people see my body due to rash.
I need help. could be both cos most STDs affect the immune system HIV ain't the only STD around, there are others too And they have almost the same prognosis like herpes, staphylococci e.t.c Be sure to get tested for them too |

psychologygh: go and feed your 200 million poverty capital of the world citizens. Do you know the meaning of trade. It goes two ways.Did you listen to the man.Ghana will rather block trades with Nigeria and rather trade with Dubai and Europe.Already trade among West African ECOWAS members is the lowest in the world. Ghana exports gold, timber, oil, manufactured products, etc worth 17 billion dollars and out of it,just 80 million dollars goes to Nigeria. So how does a few loss not even loss cos the products can be sold to Europe and China. How does 80 million dollars feed Ghana. Tell me.It's your own people that will suffer cos you can't trade among all these countries again and no imports and exports for them thus businesses and jobs collapsing in Nigeria. Food and goods more than double in prices and majority of your people can't afford such high inflated living. You can't even feed yourself thus closing all your borders to starve yourselves and you're ignorantly shouting that you feed Africa.Despicable words. You are a fool mister Ghana sourcing commodities they can easily get from Nigeria or other Neighbouring countries from Europe or elsewhere will only drive up inflation in their country, also depletes their foreign reserve and depreciates their currency You are so lacking in common sense |
