Business / Victoria Beckham Fashion Label Going Down The Drain!! by Arizonaguy(m): 3:27pm On Nov 27, 2019
Victoria Beckham's fashion business has posted another annual loss
as demand for the former Spice Girl's high end clothes "plateaued".
Victoria Beckham Limited, which has not made a profit since it
launched in 2008, reported a loss of £12.3m for 2018.
Sales slipped 16% to £35m, amid weaker wholesale demand.

Chairman Ralph Toledano said sales of clothing and accessories had
levelled off after years of growth.
"The performance was in line with expectations, so we were not
surprised. Our goal is to reach profitability as soon as possible," he told trade journal Business of Fashion.Mrs Beckham launched her label in 2008 with a collection of luxury dresses, and now sells fashion and accessories in more than 400 stores around the world.
But while she has received critical praise, the label has struggled
financially, leading Mrs Beckham to say earlier this year that it was
"not a vanity project".

"If I want this brand to still be here in 10, 20, 30, 40 years' time, I need
to break even, and then I need to be profitable," she told the Financial
Times in March. "We're on the right track to do that, but it's not going
to happen tomorrow."The company has been trying to improve its
performance, launching its own cosmetics range, striking a partnership with Reebok, and making price cuts.
But it said weaker demand from wholesale customers had hit
performance in 2018.Mr Toledano said: "I firmly believe that our destiny is in our hands. We have a great talent in Victoria and, if you take that asset with a dream team, we can do it."

Mrs Beckham controls the business with her husband and former
Manchester United star David Beckham, via their company Beckham
Brands Holdings.
The group, which manages Mr Beckham's endorsement deals and
stake in football club Inter Miami FC, also saw a sharp fall in sales in
2018.

Losses at Mrs Beckham's label were partly to blame, as well as
weaker income from Seven Global, a joint venture that manages some of his corporate partnerships.
It helped push Beckham Brand Holdings to its first ever net loss of
£1.6m in 2018, which followed a net profit of £12.3m in the previous
year.

There is serious misunderstanding about how this bill once passed will function

Science/Technology / Twitter Prepares For Huge Cull Of Inactive User by Arizonaguy(m): 2:52pm On Nov 27, 2019
Twitter will begin deleting accounts that have been inactive for more
than six months, unless they log in before an 11 December deadline.
The cull will include users who stopped posting to the site because
they died - unless someone with that person's account details is able
to log-in.

It is the first time Twitter has removed inactive accounts on such a
large scale. The site said it was because users who do not log-in were unable to agree to its updated privacy policies.
A spokeswoman also said it would improve credibility by removing
dormant accounts from people's follower counts, something which
may give a user an undue sense of importance. The first batch of
deleted accounts will involve those registered outside of the US.The firm bases inactivity on whether or not a person has logged in at
least once in the past six months. Twitter said the effort is not, as had
been suggested by some users on the network, an attempt to free up
usernames.

That said, previously unavailable usernames will start coming up for
grabs after the 11 December cut-off - though Twitter said it would be a gradual process, beginning with users outside of the US.
In future, the firm said it would also look at accounts where people
have logged in but don't "do anything" on the platform. A spokeswoman would not elaborate, other to say that the firm uses
many signals to determine genuine human users - not just whether
they interact with, or post, tweets.

The site has sent out emails to users of accounts that will be affected by the deletions. The firm would not say how many current accounts fit the criteria, although it is expected to be in the many millions. It will send out more notice closures closer to the deadline.
The cull will not affect Twitter's reported user numbers, as the firm
bases its usage level only on users who log-in at least once a day.
According to its latest earnings report, from September, Twitter has
145m "monetisable" daily active users (users who come into contact
with Twitter's advertising on a daily basis).

"As part of our commitment to serve the public conversation, we’re
working to clean up inactive accounts to present more accurate,
credible information people can trust across Twitter," the firm said
about the upcoming account removals.
"Part of this effort is encouraging people to actively log-in and use
Twitter when they register an account, as stated in our inactive
accounts policy.”

It means users who have died will have their accounts removed unless a loved one or other person is already in possession of their log-in details, and is able to sign in and accept Twitter's latest privacy policy. Twitter's current policy offers only deactivation of a dead person's account once a trusted third-party - a parent, for example - has proven their identity. However, the policy states that in no circumstances would Twitter grant access to the account, which would prevent deletion.

The firm does not, unlike Facebook, offer a "memorialisation" option
that freezes the account in place and disallows new interactions - a
measure to prevent abuse.
Since inactivity is based on logging in, not posting, bot accounts -
such as those which automatically tweet news or alerts - would also
come under the cull if the account owners do not log-in before the
December deadline. So too would accounts set up specifically as an
archive, such as @POTUS44 , a collection of all the tweets made by
President Barack Obama while in office.

Politics / Re: Senate Bill Recognising Males As Rape Victims Passes Second Reading by Arizonaguy(m): 12:45pm On Nov 27, 2019
GistWorld:
The Senate has taken the second reading of a bill seeking to remove gender restrictions in the offence of rape and related matters.

If passed, the bill will formally recognise men as victims of rape as applicable.

The bill also seeks to remove the statute of limitation on defilement, while it also seeks increased punishment for kidnapping.

Introduced by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC-‎Lagos Central) at the Senate plenary on Tuesday, the SB2 is “A Bill for an Act to amend the Criminal Code Act CAP C38 LFN 2004 to delete the Statute of Limitation on defilement, increase in punishment for the offences of kidnapping, remove gender restrictions in the offence of rape and for related matters, 2019 (SB. 2).”

In response, Senator Bala Na’allah (APC-Kebbi South) expressed support for the bill, but noted that the amendments to criminal code being sought are limited in application to southern states.

Na’allah said, “The criminal code that sought to be amended is only applicable to the southern states. “The intent of this Bill is to make it on general application in Nigeria, and that is why we must commend Senator Tinubu for this.

“The issue of rape has been a very difficult provision in our statue and dates back to the English Law.”

Also speaking in support, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP-Taraba South) said, “I think this is a bold step in the right direction. I think this is quite commendable.”

I don't agree with you that this is bullying.

Supposing two or more people gang up to beat up a bully who has been making their lives miserable at school, is that also bullying.

These girls did not technically bully that girl. They assaulted her. Fine.

Girls jump girls in a fight. Guys do it too.

By definition it is
Bullying is technically an assault

Girls fight. That is understandable. Many of these cases happen everywhere. It can even be enjoyable grin

But what is hard to understand is why a guy would join in. As in, refuse to be just a spectator, but an actual participant in girls' fights, many of which are senseless, and driven by overblown issues such as rumors and unverified and unverifiable hearsays. You will be hearing stuffs like: "Esther said this about me/Maryam said that about me. I am going to beat her up. I will disgrace her. I will tell everyone how she slept with Tinu's sister's boyfriend." They never fight over politics, or women victimization or child abuse. And yet, a full-grown man allowed himself to be drawn into that sort of a drama. It is hard to understand why he would do that.

Even back in boarding school, we (senior pangolos) had the good sense never to beat girls or even punish them. We would rather call a female senior prefect to do that.

Even without a guy collaborating, that ain't fighting
When two or more people ganged up to beat a single person usually of the same age group, it's bullying
It happens everywhere and hopefully this serves as a deterrent

About 5 FUTA students, one male and 4 females ganged up against a female student, Bimpe, accusing her of saying something she was not supposed to which quickly resulted in her getting the beating of her life.

The male student was the first to slap her repeatedly before he removed his belt and started beating her with it while the other ladies with him joined in using different objects to beat her up while dragging her clothes and hair as she tried escaping from them.

According to reports, the male FUTA student came to assault the female student with his school daughter (one of the girls in the video) who allegedly called him to help deal with the lady who she had a misunderstanding with in school.

Even in New York, people still hawk in traffic.

The difference is that they aren't school kids.
And the poor also benefit from basic amenities like good education, roads, health care etc.

UNLIKE in nagelia.

It's well.

ASIDE:

Malcom Gladwell in "OUTLIERS" asserts that nobody makes it alone. That most successes like that of Tiger woods, Bill Gates etc are owed to cumulative advantages early in life.

Making it in life is dependent on several factors ranging from family level, talent, LUCK etc.
Part of the above factors gives a person a cumulative advantage. This is also called "The mathew effect in sociology, -- gotten from the bible.

Serena Williams and sister Venus owe their success to this factor. I won't dwell much on this because of time.

There is some level of luck. Yes. Some call this luck, kismet, serendipity, accident or God factor.

Geoff Colvin agrees when he wrote his book "Talent is overrated"

My point is that it's unhealthy to compare yourself with others, because your realities and background are different. Nobody makes it alone.

Enjoy and appreciate your level now, while you work for more.

Don't look down on others except you fancy their shoes. Some of the things we brag about, we never merited or worked for them.

The drivers, conductors, pepper sellers etc all deserve respect.
