wirinet: The problem with the average igbo, particularly those with limited exposure is arrogance - unrestrained egocentricism. Igbos are the most hard working while all others are lazy, igbos are the most intelligent, while all others are stupid, igbos are the richest, igbos are the prettiest, all without statistical evidence. The irony is that after all these chest beating, the next minute the same person will start crying of marginalisation, oppression, hatred by others, etc.
Igbos are no more hardworking than the average Yoruba service provider, hausa farmer or Ijaw fisherman. The problem is difference in areas of specialisation. While Yorubas prefers administrative jobs and services, hausa/fulanis prefers farming/husbandry, igbos prefers trading and hustling (any business that bring in money irrespective of its legality or morality). This is what lots of you guys call hard work.
China did not start developing until it opened its economy to the world. China initially lost out on industrial revolution because it closed up its country and economy. It opened up its economy to foreign investors starting in the 70s. It gave tax breaks and other incentives to western countries to set up industries in China. They started building infrastructure eg, rail, ports, power stations, roads, etc, to support industries. The only condition the Chinese government gave foreigners to investment in China being that Chinese citizens must be involved as a shareholder and most of the workforce must be Chinese. Most western companies moved moved their factories to China. This single move catapulted the Chinese economy to the second biggest in the world within two decades.
Lagos is what it is today because it attracted investments not only from other Nigerians but from other foreigners from around the world.
You guys stubbornly refuse to learn. If you can rid your mindset of inferiority complex, you will be able to make your points without feeling that i said Igbos are better than you. The major trigger of economic prosperity of china was the liberalization as against the command systems that was prevalent . Open market was encouraged and people were encouraged to go into manufacturing. The government heavily encouraged and funded entrepreneurs with their large savings. They encouraged foreign investment, but the major reason for this was to gain access to technology, spur domestic innovation and create global Chinese brands. The ultimate goal of China was to have a prosperous China driven by Chinese themselves and representing a force in global economy. They have achieved that because the believe in my earlier statement. Your claim about lagos is laughable and purely delusional. Lagos is only as good as the age long privilege it enjoyed as capital with massive government infrastructure, added to the politics of development which FORCED Igbos to move there. The same reason why yorubas are feeling uneasy. |

wirinet: Wrong mindset. Only Igbos investing in igboland cannot lead to development and progress of igboland. Igbos need to start encouraging other tribes and even foreigners to start investing in igboland. Countries that developed rapidly are those that encourage foreigners to invest - ie UAE, USA, Canada, even China. They bring in capital and skills. The Saros and the Agudas from Brazil brought the first major development of Lagos (Lagos Island). They were the ones that starting building with cement blocks in Lagos. Some of their structures are still standing after close to 200 years.
The igbos are too hostile to foreigners, they need to be more accommodating. Laziness and in failure has become established as a norm to you. No country wants foreign investment if their citizens can do what foreigners can do. The most independent countries are ones with majority local investment . This is why countries like Japan and China are able to curb western influences while developing. Imagine the little investment netflix has made in nollywood, they are already introducing extreme nudity. some countries even close some sectors to foreign investment. Your logic that only Igbos investing in Igboland cannot lead to development is flawed. We need investment foreign or local, but if most come from our people, it's an advantage. |

Politics › The Scourge Of Inferiority Complex And Frustration In Yorubaland by Armaggedon(op): 9:51pm On Mar 23, 2023 |
A combination of inferiority complex, jealousy and fear for the future culminated in the aggressive behaviour of the yorubas immigrants towards the Igbo and other southern community in Lagos. I will tell you how.
If you have followed Nigeria at least for the past 20 years, you'd know yorubas believe they are in a form of competition with the Igbos. Whether in Business, Academics or entertainment, the Igbos aim to make the best of it, while ironically, yoruba aspiration is primarily fueled by the desire to rival Igbos. Argue all you want, Igbos have made aggressive progress in these various spheres, displacing yorubas in areas they thought was traditionally their own. Check education for instance, the Igbos have knocked them out both in SSCE pass rate and university graduate number ratio. This happens simultaneously in business. This is why Yorubas believe they have lost the competition in Trading, transport, aviation, banking, super market chain etc
Interestingly, this is not just happening in the East, it's also happening in Abuja and "painfully" right there in Lagos too. Yoruba people from Osun, ogun etc believe lagos is the pride of Yoruba nation and they must dictate what happens there (unclear how, since they are visitors too) .But it is a painful paradox that the Igbos they are scared of the most have managed (or is managing) to gain a kind of economic dominance there. Since people believe anyone that has economic control has the real control, Yorubas think Igbos have acquired sufficient economic clout to 'take over' lagos, even when it is visibly clear Igbos have no such agenda.
Make no mistake about it,Igbos have never had any confrontation with Hausa, Yoruba or indeed any group residing in Lagos in recent memory, but bloody clashes between Hausa and Yorubas from osun, ogun etc in lagos is almost a monthly occurrence. Igbos are the most peaceful ethnic group Nigeria. Yorubas are not worried by Hausa simply because they believe Hausa are no economic threat to them not because Hausas or Yorubas themselves are peaceful. It is Igbos success that that scare Yorubas. That is why every election year is like war to them; It is why they had no option than to choose to be slaves to tinubu family, it is why they are forced to applaud thugs that attack innocent voters. It the irrational fear of Igbo 'take over' of Lagos that made yorubas to beat up their fellow yorubas in the polling unit thinking they were Igbos. The 'no mans land' talk has no basis.
The inferiority complex against the Igbos in Yorubaland is so strong that portable can win election if he exploits it.
Unfortunately, they have made a lot of mistakes in the process.
1) They are empowering jobless thugs who would destroy their region in future (this was how the north started) 2) They have driven lagos natives to the arms of SE/SS community in lagos, making their worst fear more likely to happen earlier than they fear. 3) By profiling Igbos in lagos and carrying out hate campaign, they have fired up lagos born Igbos who have been accused of being efulefu. 4) They have shown the world who they are.
For the years Nigeria will last as one country, Igbos will continue to live and vote in lagos. Any further attacks might not end well |

I don't understand why Igbo people feel they're entitled to everything in Nigeria or that we have to feel sorry for them and hand over everything to them. You earn things, you don't get things by complaining. Orji ozu kalu come and see the people you are licking their ass regard now you as any other Igbo |

Dogalmighty17: In a rather shocking development, the APC has lost Nasarawa State. Governor Sule suffered a rather humiliating defeat in the hands of PDPs Ombugadu. Now this brings a rather interesting dynamic to the state. A Christian has never ruled Nasarawa State before even though Christians are the majority. This election however, showed that change was coming. Senator Ta'al lost, APC national chairman suffered strings of embarrassing losses and now Sule has lost. good. northern Christians are embracing change. The labor party wave in the region really opened their eyes on what they are capable of doing. |
