NIMC has said and still saying the focus is the National Identification Number and it is your identity, the NIN slip is a valid means of identification..........The Nigerian Factor when Nigerians felt it wasn't needed for anything nobody bothered now that the National Identification Number has been made mandatory thats when everybody is rushing to register. Nimc is also under funded hence why they decided to focus on the National Identification Number............. |
Carmit:NIMC has said and still saying the National Identification Number is the most important token of one's registration, and it can be verified on the verification portal. The NIN slip is a valid means of identification |
cohug:What you need is your NIN the National identification Number the world is going digital |
Timileyin1234:it is not the National e-ID that you need to obtain your international passport. what you need is the Number on the slip which is called the National Identification Number (NIN) |
The National identification Number is a unique, biometrically linked 11 digit number assigned to an individual upon successful enrollment. The NIN is also a valid means of identification which can be verified on the verification portal. Why the National Identification Number is important • For processing your travel documents (international passport application & acquisition) • For opening personal bank accounts • To obtain driver’s license • To participate in the National Health Insurance Scheme • For payment of taxes • To engage in transactions related to your contributory pension scheme • To gain access to welfare and other relevant services from the Government • For transactions with social security implications • For land transactions subject to the Land Use Act • To register for provision and use of hospitality services and lots more. • To access all other government and private sector services However, given the penal consequences and restrictive effects of not obtaining a NIN, it is advisable that eligible individuals obtain their NINs as quickly as possible. |
CAN ANY ONE HELP |
I want to know what exactly is NIN and its uses as being canvassed by NIMC, who can assist? The National Identification Number (NIN) is a set of numbers assigned to an individual upon successful enrolment. Enrolment consists of the recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the ten (10) fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature, which are all used to cross-check existing data in the National Identity Database to confirm that there is no previous entry of the same data. • The National Identification Number (NIN) consists of 11 non- intelligible numbers randomly chosen and assigned to an individual at the completion of enrolment into the National Identity Database (NIDB). • Once a NIN is assigned to an individual, it can never be reassigned, given or used by another person – that makes it unique in nature. • In the case of the demise of an individual, his/her NIN is retired once a death certificate is presented to the Commission and the individual’s death is established. • The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify his/her identity. • All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above are eligible to enrol for their NINs. • The NIN should be closely guarded by individuals and not revealed to all and sundry except to relevant authorities when requested (for instance it shouldn’t be disclosed online over social media and should not be printed along with contact details on business cards or other office stationery). |

You may have seen or heard the news that BEGINNING FROM 2018 THE NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE WILL NOT RENEW OR ISSUE NEW INTERNATIONAL PASSPORTS TO PERSONS WITHOUT THE NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (NIN) ISSUED BY NIMC. What this means is that all applicants for the Nigerian International Passport starting from January 1 next year shall be required to enter their 11 digits National Identification Number (NIN) on their application forms before their applications can be processed. Please note that the announcement does not say NATIONAL e-ID CARD but NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. They are two different tokens issued by NIMC. The NIN is issued to you on a slip once you register successfully at a NIMC center, it is your MAIN identity in the National Identity Database and will gradually replace other means of identity in Nigeria, this is where we are heading to. The Immigration Service has done well by linking up with NIMC's NIN Verification platform to identify all citizens and foreigners applying for the passport. It will help Nigeria in security and other sensitive areas. Every other data collection agency in Nigeria is expected to follow soon. The electronic ID Card is also important for several other services and will be issued to everyone who has a NIN immediately NIMC gets the required resources. We regret the slow pace of card issuance. We are already issuing them. Please disregard all rumors and share this announcement widely. |
