Politics › Re: Protesters Storm N’assembly, Demand Death Penalty For Corruption by asha01: 10:57am On Jun 18, 2015 |
handsomeclouds: Some protesters stormed the National Assembly on Wednesday and demanded a legislation that would prescribed death penalty as punishment for corruption in the country.
Speaking under a group, Voice of the Voiceless, they said there was no way Nigeria would made progress if corruption in public office was not brought under control.
They wrote separate letters to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.
In the letter to the House, which was signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Oliver Ezeala, the protesters wrote, “Corruption, as we are all aware of, has eaten so deep into the fabric of this great nation and we are strongly advocating the death penalty to anybody who is found guilty of corrupt practices, no matter how highly-placed such an individual is in the society.
“Nigeria has tried every other measure of deterrent but to no avail.
“We want this great nation to toe the path of countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, China and other world powers who have achieved so much developmental strides as a result of their zero tolerance for corruption.”
However, they said they were confident that with President Muhammadu Buhari in power, the fight against corruption would be fast-tracked.
“We believe that he will fight this our common hydra-headed enemy to a complete standstill,” the letter added.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Yusuf Lasun, on Wednesday deplored the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Lasun observed that to make matters worse, there were many fraudsters who engaged in employment racketeering by collecting money from youths for non-existing jobs.
Lasun spoke in Abuja when some Osun State indigenes paid him a visit at the National Assembly.
However, he promised that the current House would partner the executive arm of government to address the situation.
“Since the (federal) capital was moved out of Lagos, it is very difficult to get employment for our people.
“It is horrible to hear that people collect money from young graduates to get employed,” he told the visitors.
The Osun Indigenes, made up mainly of National Assembly employees, were led by the President of Association of Osun State Indigenes, Mr. Oluremi Ajibade http://www.punchng.com/news/protesters-storm-nassembly-demand-death-penalty-for-corruption/ Cc: Lalasticlala Cc: Ishilove wao! so so much are being said but so little is being done. |

Education › 10 Reasons Why It's Better To Be A Night Owl by asha01(op): 1:41pm On Jun 11, 2015 |
Most people usually identify themselves as either an early bird or a night owl, but it's hard to say if one is better than the other. Owls tend to be more extroverted, emotionally stable and creative than early birds. Larks are more likely to be introverted, logical and reliable than night owls.
Early birds definitely have an edge because they fit better with our standard nine-to-five society, but being a night owl also has it's benefits. So let's do some sciences here and look on perks of being a night owl.
1. No Distractions At night there are fewer distractions than during the day. Your co-workers and boss won't try to contact you assuming you're asleep. No email, texts and phone calls that can interrupt you from working. At night it’s only you and the night owls so you can work in peace and quiet.
2. Attention According to a 2009 study published in the journal Science compared to night owls, early birds have lower activity in brain regions linked to attention during the day. This means night owls are more attentive during the day.
3. Happy Time If you're a night owl, you don't have to choose between going out with friends in the evening or work. You can do both, because when you return home after socializing you will still have some time to work before going to sleep.
4. Success New researches by University of Chicago showed that evening types scored higher than morning types on inductive reasoning which is linked to innovative thinking and more prestigious occupations, and tends to earn higher incomes. This means stay-up-late people tend to be more successful.
5. More Creative If you’re a night owl, you are more likely to be able to think outside the box than the rest. According to Professor Jim Horne, sleep expert, “Evening types tend to be the more extrovert creative types, the poets, artists, and inventors, while the morning types are the deducers, as often seen with civil servants and accountants.”
6. Night Owls are Happier Early risers have higher levels of cortisol, the hormone associated with stress, according to British research from the late 1990s. People who woke earlier than 7:21 a.m. had the highest cortisol levels, and they stayed elevated as the day went on.
7. Strength Researches has shown that the strength of the early birds remained at a same level during the entire day, however, the night owls’ strength reached higher levels during the night. And this, my friend, is a good reason to work-out at night instead of morning.
8. Hours in Solitude When you’re the only one awake, you watch what you want on TV. You eat what you want. You listen to the music you want to listen to. You wear (or don’t wear) whatever your little heart desires. They say that character is who you are when no one is watching. So the late night hours are the best time to learn about and embrace your true self.
9. Sweet Freedom There’s nothing you’re supposed to be doing. No one has a doctor’s appointment scheduled for midnight. You’re not anxious about missing a social engagement with a fake excuse because you really just needed some downtime. Nope. You are just free to do whatever you feel you want to do.
10. Night owls can adapt to 9-5 world In a perfect world, where night owls could follow their natural rhythm and wake up late, they would be productive as non-else. Unfortunately, our world is not perfect. It's 9-to-5. But night owls can adopt this system if they absolutely have to.
So, if you're a night owl the science is on your side, so don't feel pressured to become an early bird--forget the proverbs and embrace your status as a creature of the night. The important thing to remember is it’s not about the amount of hours you work, but what you do in those hours that counts. What do you think?
If you have experience on this, please add yours. |

BeeBeeOoh: FROM ISAAC ANUMIHE, ABUJA
Following 50 per cent drop in revenue, inflation and the high cost of living, the Federal Government has commenced the review of the Remuneration Act which will affect what the president, vice president, governors, and others will earn.
The review will also affect the remunerations of other political officeholders including the ministers, the National Assembly members and the judiciary.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun at the weekend, Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Elias Mbam, said the review is undergoing a process to determine whether it will be reviewed upward or downward.
He, however, noted that given the harsh realities on ground, the 2008 Remuneration Act must be reviewed.
“The commission is not insensitive to the realities on ground. There is a drop in the oil price, there is a general economic downward trend. Many states are even finding it difficult to pay salaries. In view of this situation, the commission has commenced the review of the remuneration of the present Act of 2008 and by the time we conclude, we will make public our position with regard to the new Remuneration Act,” he said.
Mbam said the commission will consider other things in tandem with what is happening in other parts of the world.
“The thing is that we are not working in isolation of other parts of the world. We are also looking at what is obtainable elsewhere. What is being paid in the private sector. What type of work do you do? What are the risks? Does the work require the allowance that you are earning? What are the shortcomings of the present Remuneration Act? What is the rate of inflation? So, it is not something you just say, increase or decrease. But certainly, there will be some changes,” he emphasized.
On the time-frame of the new remuneration law, the chairman said it should come up with a new proposal before the end of the third quarter.
“It is before the end of September because when we come out with our new proposal, it will still go through the National Assembly for the executive arm of the government. But for the legislators, our determined emolument is final. When we conclude, whatever we decide for the legislators is final. But that of the executive will still go through legislative process. But whatever they will decide finally will not be more than what the commission decided,” Mbam noted..
At the moment, the President earns N3.51 million per year, Vice President (N3.03 million), Minister (N2.02 million), Minister of State (N1.95 million) and Special Adviser (N1.94 million), Governor (N2.22 million), Deputy Governor (N2.11 million), and Commissioners (N1.33 million).

Why do these guys always wanna shifts their responsibilities to the general public?? Why do we have them where they are?? What exactly are we supposed to do with this list, go on and lynch the people involved when we have courts of competent jurisdictions and the anti-corruption agencies to convict defaulters ??
This country is really sick under this administration. It was the same way they had to make a lengthy documentary about the biggest landlord in Nigeria, accusing him of every single crime one can think of, yet couldn't as much as institute a legal case against him.
Smh. reasons are they are all in the same cabal and they have stolen so much and are still stealing to be able to buy the so call "courts of competent jurisdictions and the anti-corruption agencies" who themselves are part of the cabal. if by any chance Buhari is integrated into this cabal, then Nigeria is doomed because he is our perceived now |

Threatening Nigerians with job losses? With the mind boggling profits and rip off tariffs which are perhaps much higher than in SA, they have the indecency to condemn Nigerians rightly outraged about the horrible events in SA? Let Mtn be aware that there are other companies waiting to step in and absorb a good proportion of th ose endangered workers. Pls what are the other companies doing? O boy this is a rare opportunity to seize some market share from MTN. Start commercials condemning xenophobia with subtle hints at MTN and offer irresistible bonuses to switch over.
