Abagworo: I am being realistic on the issue because I understand the Igbo politics well. Some Igbos from Ebonyi and Enugu might gladly accept the isuama-nri-awka-aro dominance but the southern tips of ngwa, etche, ikwerre, asa, ndoki, ogba, egbema, ndoni etc. would rather remain in a country of their own coalition because they would be highly disadvantaged in the aligbo arrangement.I will like a contribution by any nairalander from the southern clans to air his view.
i have already aired my view unless you choose to ignore my contributions.
on the first bolded self the ' northern igbo domination' axis is actually the anambra axis not the enugu let alone ebonyi.
9jaganja: This lie of handing over to Awolowo started on Nairaland. Now we know the people reading Nairaland. Next will be, the coup was a Yoruba/Hausa coup to kill all Igbos and take over their land. Why are you guys so obsessed with changing history just so you can justify your victim mentality? sh!!T happens and I don't think it matters who's asss the sh!!t came from; all we know is that it stinks. Get over it.
Is this supposed to be a joke? Please do not embarass yourself here.
Abagworo: Alaigbo country may not work and Enugu town Igbo cannot be adopted by all Igbo. The Igbo spoken in Owerri and Umuahia is most popular but I will still not support imposition of this on other independent Igbo clans. The alaigbo country will remain a microcosm of Nigeria because many groups will be marginalised by the larger nri/isuama/awka coalition.the tiny groups like ndoki, asa, ehugbo etc. Might not be included in the scheme of things.
Btw there is no such thing as owerri or orlu dialect.owerri belongs to uratta dialect group while orlu is split between isu and orsu dialect groups.oguta belongs to ukwuani dialect group which majority is in delta state.aboh and ndoni have similarities with ukwuani.owerri is also not isuama.isuama is the area between orlu and nri.
So i guess what you are trying to say is that we are better off in nigeria abi ?

if it means using those dialects as written form for teaching then it is an issue but if it means encouraging the speaking of it orally then i see no issue.
experience: The clan issue will keep coming up as long as we are in still in this geographical enclave. Its that phobia that one's uniqueness among Ndigbo could very well be drowned out within the current arrangement that tends to generalize. When Alaigbo comes, the obsessive urge to hold onto clanhood will go out the window in a very short while. But from the start, everyone will need to have a dose of what it feels like to be almost completely autonomous so we can see its no big deal and get over it otherwise the small segregations will occasionally rare their ugly heads.
Obiagu1: My grievance is the issue of teaching dialects in schools or using it as official or national language like in South Africa. It’s already leanrt at homes, I think that’s sufficient.
like i said earlier nobody actually thought of this.you are the one that brought it up.you were not even the person i was expecting to bring that up.
unanimous decision to jettison Igbo Izugbe (cetral Igbo) and adopt the Enugwu dialect?
I vote yes.
Over to the umunna. . .
Courting controversy.
jason12345: Ezeuche22, y do u want to split Nigeria when people r trying to united Africa. Even the west know that if we r together(including hausa) we would be even them. ( hold a stick and break it, its easy, then take 3 sticks tie them and try to break them, its alot more difficult) .one love from a yoruba man.
Obiagu1: The problem with Igbo Izugbe is that it was created and did not evolve. Use English as an example and understand what I mean. Today England, many regions still have their accents, dialects because it will never die – it’s actually their first language. But everyone can still read, write in London English (Queen’s English).
Then i wonder why you were getting agitated in the first instance .
Obiagu i hope you know that the written german you see is quite different from the spoken germans in different regions.there is a reason why it is called written german.
Obiagu1: I actually did read every single post before I posted. Once we form a nation hoping to do “rotational” anything, that nation will die. We can actually survive and progress when our emphasis is “merit”. Merit based is what pushes progress and growth. America and Canada are examples. Merit! Let the best be there, I don’t care.
For dialects, they will never die but let it be limited to homes, you can speak it you your kids and kindred if you want but it should NEVER found its way to the national/provincial stage even in schools. Believe me, if you promote the study of dialects in schools, they will one day become a pseudo-language and a province can actually ban the use of central Igbo in their province.
Not sure of who said anything about dialectical teaching in schools.i know i did not.
Also i never said anything about rotational nonsense even though i think someone mentioned it.
You cannot use US and Canada as countries to compare a possible igbo country with.Use germany or japan and you will make more sense.I also do not see how lack of merit is not recognised into the system of this countries i mentioned.
For your info even as we are now there are some divisions where a 'foreinger' does not seem to buy properties eg abriba. How many non abriba people are found there as we speak?Likewise there are some places where the 'indegenes' do not seem to care about' foreigners' owning properties eg onicha, owerri etc.
Obiagu1: That is what you’ll get when you advocate for clan based provinces. Every province will see themselves as different people which is similar to what we have today in Nigeria and it will become Nigeria 2.0 all over again.
What we had before was sufficient but will have minor adjustments. It was “town” based and emphasis on town. We used to have Onitsha district, Awka, Enugu, Nsukka, Abakaliki, Umuahia, Owerri, etc. Someone from Aro clan can comfortably go to Enugu and have properties there without fear of “Wawa” clan declaring abandoned properties and someone born in Enugu can claim Enugu citizenship.
maybe we should substitute the name clan with town.like i said generating your own revenue will take care of a lot of things.
ezeagu: For what is now Imo State all will be the same apart from these LGA's that have adopted the east/west nonsense: Oru, Ugwuta (Oguta), Ideato and Owerre, possibly an Mbaise.
Mbaise cannot be possibly. It has to be as it is as distinct as ngwa and nnewi.Etitit should be there too.
Obiagu1: Frankly, I was really pissed off when I read those discussions. What will clan/dialect-led provinces do for us? Every clan teaching their dialect and not Igbo in their provinces, each one clamouring for “rotational president/PM” and quota system? Alaigbo will even disintegrate before it started, Nigeria 2.0
Nobody said the bolded will be the case.each would be allowed to develop its own way and generate its own revenue to run its province. You want strong centre?Alaigbo will even disintigrate faster.
There is what is meant by adapting to the natural instincts of people and also maximizing differences.Youn think germany will survive with totalitarian regime?think again.
Andre Uweh: There isnothing nonsensical about it. How about Ibadan north, Ibadan south west, Ibadan south East, Ibadan north west, Ibadan north east. The most important thing here is that those places maintained the parent name. Unlike our own Etiti, instead of Etiti North and south, you have Ihitte-Uboma and Obowu. You know Obowu would have been Etiti South but last minute they opted for Obowu LGA. Yet in Owerri, they have Owerri Urban , Owerri South and East. They did not go for Emekuku, Uratta etc. That Owerri identity was not lost.
If and when the lgas are asked to generate their own revenue as against the nonsense that is going on i will like to see how those north and south lgas will survive.Imagine Danny Boy as councillor or is it chairman in Obowu lga
Also coming from Obowu myself i have not seen much difference btw etiti of the 80s and Obowu or ihitte Uboma of now.
experience: Seems sound to me; but would mean we would have to sidestep the clan/dialect-led provincial grouping. Don't think its that straightforward buddy; Nigeria could buy up Chad following that line.
I do not see any side stepping here.can you expantiate?
Onlytruth: lol. chop chop lgas.
mehn that those things dey vex me no be small. If to say lgas are to generate their own revenue make i see how those east, west, north, south nonsense will appear.
ezeagu: Well to start with what is known as Anambra, much of it would be the same only that the whole 'North' 'South' 'East' and 'West' divisions should be discarded. The name of the river should be changed back to Omabala.
Possibly 'Nri' as well for national and tourist purposes which can take up Awka south and parts of Aguata for Igbo-Ukwu.
I thought i was the only person that found that nonsensical.awka north, awka south, nnewi north nnewi south nonsense that arose from money from centre and chop chop mentality of lgas.
it seems the format for embeding youtube videos here has changed.i used to do it before but i cannot seem to do it now with the same technique i used to use before like
1. Clicking the insert flash icon to get this
[flash=200,200]http://[/flash]
2.Inserting the link in between the flash brackets as shown here
[flash=200,200]link[/flash]
3.Removing the '=' and '?' sign in links and replacing them with' /' sign like here
Naijaking: Deal with the Ijaw problem. Kaikai dependant uncle . . . Coming from the same person citing Pepple as the Ijaw driver of the abandoned homes saga, whilst Obiagu claims Pepple as Igbo King of Bonny. Hehehehehe.
These are the kinda sentiments rightly compared to Mein Kampf which rarely raise a whiff of dissesnsion on here apart from the likes of reasonable fellows like Ezeagu, Abagworo, Udezue etc
Like I said earlier I'm just trying to ascertain the historical foundation on which this militaristic grandstanding is based hence I ask for historical evidence of military dominance that Ijaw should be scared of.
i was interested why you said that no one here had tried to caution those talks when it was obviously a lie and not whether they made those statements.
Do not ask me to desist from any militaristic talk for I have committed no crime. The likes of EzeUche & co have been puffing up about committing genocidal slaughter of the Ijaws with no caution from your side or any elders on here. I am just trying to understand the historical context on which Ijaws should fear such military aggression. My brief is just to let him know that Ijaw has never been scarred by fear of Igbo invasion so his threats are water off a ducks back.
Are you you have been reading the mails here well.
Onlytruth: It must be ground hog day. Why is everybody typing without even thinking. Who said anything about forcing anyone to join Biafra?
And stop making side comments. Be frontal please.
JEALOUSY WAS A MAJOR REASON why some groups fought against Biafra. We have to neutralize that chance by offering them an opportunity, else history will repeat itself. You guys are underestimating the power of jealousy, but it has played more role than anything else in the Igbo predication in Nigeria and failed Biafra. How do we address that?
The question is why offer an opprtunity to people who do not seem interested in it your beliefs? You forget biafra included other ethnic groups hence the fear within. If there is to be a disintergration of nigeria why must we consider others?Unlike before where we pushed for it because of the circumstances then this time around i do not think igbos will push for it as others also feel fed up too so it wil not be like an igbo thing anymore. So in this scenario what happens?
I have said it before and i will stand by it.If there is to be disintergration of nigeria igbo must and i repeat must not try to force or cajole any ethnic to join us unless majority of the so called ethnic group says they want to.I simply do not understand why some people here would because of one or two friends said to him feel that those ethnic groups are interested in joining igbos in any eventuality. An ethnic group is more than one or two friends. We should drop this big brother attitude.
Ibime: Don't mind Ezeuche and others talking about pushing people into the sea. When was the last time any Igbo tribe/nation/clan or village won a war against external force? If the British hadn't told em they were one people, their clans would continue being pillaged by Ijaw and Benin peoples. hehehehhehehe
Is this supposed to be a joke?Fragmented group pillaging fragmented group?
EzeUche22: I see lects as destroying progress. That is why I enjoy reading about what Qin Shi Huang (China's First Emperor) did in creating a standard lect for the Chinese languages which had thousands of lects into one single lect which can be found through Mandarin. The lect in which 85% of the Chinese people speak.
Getting rid of lects should be our first thing should I do
Would effectively destroy what you want to build even before you start.
experience: They're a unique English people. Their accent is nearly harder than the Scottish accent for first time hearers. And almost a unique dress code among the girls. Nigerian sailors did a lot of 'work' here in the 70's so there are a number of mixed race people. Very down to earth. But have some very naughty kids. Been through a lot within the nation hence the 'siege mentality' when it come to anything of theirs life the football clubs, beatles, actors comedians (renowned for this) etc.
yes try listen to jaime caragher give an interview.
EzeUche22: But those lects can be easily deciphered! Try listening to Northern Igbo lects! Is it even Igbo?
is that what you think because you from the southern part?i actually understand the northern lects (except of course the ebonyi axis) than bende axis igbo that sounds like efik to me.
I don't think the dialects should be gotten rid of, you can use a standard dialect to teach in class, and there's no harm in knowing your own dialect. If Igboland became a country with Igbo bombarding people from all sides, understanding other dialects will be easier because 1, you would understand the pattern of your asusu more, and 2, the other olu would get more exposure with the lessening of Bekee.
The reason why i used the german eg.The written german is near to the spoken german in hannover while bavaria(which is actually the richest region in germany) speaks in a totally different way
experience: Those are semantics really. Scousers (north england) feel a tad ill treated within the nation and thus the slogan 'we are not English, we are Scousers', they rally round any true local who makes it nationally or internationally (beatles week just concluded), they have a very distinct accent and nearly a mini culture of their own. I could go on and on especially with this group of people, but despite this Steven Gerrard is still a bonafide member of the national team. People from Liverpool could work in Manchester and London without being put on a 'special list' seeking to redress the wealth disparity (as you mentioned) with the southerner. I believe the ramifications are like raw evidence showing that nationality (even if not 100% but at least 80%) has taken root. In order words a northern Englishman has to try exceedingly hard to come up with excuses that show he is marginalized.
I have heard that quite a few times.Never new why they did that.
EzeUche22: Maybe we Igbos should be more focused on creating our own script using the Nsibidi but adding more symbols to it.
Also, getting rid of unnecessary lects and making every Igbo speak general Igbo. What angers me most is when Igbos speak in their lect so other Igbos present would have a hard time understanding what they are saying. The Northern Igbo clans are notorious for this.
I doubt if the owerre, mbaise or ngwaman will agree with you. My ohafia friends always speak his dialect whenever he is a fellow ohafia.
We need to consolidate Igboland. We need to get rid of this foolish clan notion. I believe in the individuality of the Igbo person, but when it comes to clans, we Igbos should mix with other Igbo clans.
Germany had this problem as well. The Germans states were always at war with each other until a man that went by the name of Otto Von Bismark united all of the German speaking states under one Germania.
We Igbos need unite and throw away the clan yoke.

Re: The True Extent Of Alaigbo (Igboland) « #1237 on: Today at 12:36:40 AM »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from: experience on Today at 12:35:06 AM This is an Ndigbo trait (reason why we survive too) with many advantages often misconstrued as individualism. But with a worst case scenario that say 80% believe in clanhood, what system of govt. should we adopt?
I would say clanhood.
At the end of the day, I still see myself as an Aro Igbo. Hence I said Aro first. I am loyal to the Igbo people, but my clan comes first.
ezeagu: First of all Japan has no official language, it has recognised languages. Believe it or not there are more than one native peoples of Japan, in fact the Japanese are not the 'original' people of the island. I use Japan because of it's similarities with Igboland and its people.
I believe that you don't need an official language, but 'central Igbo' should be the lingua franca.
If the new country will have other ethnic groups then it should be a federation like Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
I've said this before, but many so called Igbo 'clans' are actually counties, like Orlu which is comprised of different towns and villages.
Ermm so which one is the written japanese we always see or is it different dialects i dey see as those signs look the same to me
chyz: That is very true. Thats wat i love about our people in a way. I say in a way because as an "Igbo nation" it works for us very good but As a tribe in Nigeria it draws us back
Does not work for us in nigeria because we do not have a herd mentality. It is kind of a drawback when you exist in a country where other nigerians are opposite most of the time.Exactly the reason why i laugh when people say that igbos should have a consesus candidate in an election. It is at parallel to our natural instincts. We were labelled democratic in our ways by the colonialists for a reason.Sometimes i feel the nigeria structure tries to force us into into something that is parallel to what we are.
experience: I know Asha, this is our nature, but like I mentioned in the original post there would be problems especially skirmishes in 'buffer zones' like Okrika et al if we don't absorb them and leave them be within what is a very loose and flexible union Biafra. Within Biafra, Alaigbo is ours, everyone else develops on their own.
As for those buffer parts they have to be shown how the nation would be run like independence of developement and pailementary set up etc but if majority still insists on no then we simply leave those ones and go for those that majority say yes.I certainly do not want another nigeria like scenario where some peolple will feel they are being forced to do something they do not want to do.
