Some people have even ridiculously insinuated that Ngwa people sabotaged the rest of ndi-Igbo during the war, in their plot to justify their continued discrimination.
I have often heard about this.I wonder what brought about this story?

The issue is with the attitude of some Abians who say that an Ngwa person can NEVER be govenor in Abia state,
I have also heard about this.Never really understood it.

The issue is not whether Aba will be better off if Ngwa people are in charge.

The issue is about the long standing contempt with which some of those who are not indigenes treat the indigenous population as they plunder the resources meant for the development of their LGA's. The issue is with the attitude of some Abians who say that an Ngwa person can NEVER be govenor in Abia state, as though Abia does not 'belong to all', the way 'Aba belongs to all'. The issue is about how one particular village buffoon, who for some weird reason is even occasionally hailed as an Igbo hero on Nairaland, goes about deriding Ngwa people. . .this same attitude, I personally experienced in the few years I attended secondary school in Aba, even though I had a British accent and came from a comparatively more comfortable and enlightened background than most of those onhu onhu ragamuffins who would so exhaust themselves trying to deride me, simply because I am Ngwa. . .

Are some people less Abian than others?

Some people have even ridiculously insinuated that Ngwa people sabotaged the rest of ndi-Igbo during the war, in their plot to justify their continued discrimination. This discrimination is not just political but manifests in the state civil service as well. My own family have been direct victims of this.

Bringing in the plight of the Ikwerre in a multi-ethnic Rivers State and comparing it with the plight of ndi-Ngwa in Abia state is not only insensitive, but also reveals the mindset that riles up a lot of Ngwa people about some of you onhu onhu people!

You then wonder why there is a growing Ngwa 'consciousness'. . .
Hmmm ezeuche

Something is missing in your mind, no wonder you keep ROFLMAO. You need help, and sound very silly. Why does Aljazeera not report on Afghanistan and Iran? Why do they not go into Alquaeda hang outs where OSAMA is? Everything is not o.k with you. I wont even bother to respond to anything you say because you have just shown that your mind don throw way.

There is no evidence that Aba will be better if just Ngwa ppl were in charge. The last time I checked they are not handing out freebies to non natives. Everyone is contributing. Only morons will start pointing out that this and that corrupt Chairman or whatever is not Ngwa once he messes up. Do u also point out that the ones performing well are not Ngwa? Just elect good people to lead. Its this attitude that kept the Ikwerre of Rivers in political wilderness for a long time.

I dont quite agree with you on this one.

With the way things are going now, no indigenous L.G chairman will be tempted to mismanage public funds. If he does so, he does so at his own peril because sooner or later the indigenous youths will come down on him with their might.

The monies accruing to Aba South L.G.A alone is more than what the remaining 16 L.G.As are getting combined, so the city of Aba deserves something better than what it is now.

If the non-indigenous representatives are not working in line with that goal because of the contempt they have for their hosts, then it's time they take the back seat.

Aba must get what it deserves and this is non-negotiable.
Well i think this is now a mindset thing of elites on both sides. To chop money.

The way we run our lgas and states in nigeria is also a big problem.Allocation!

Also just to point out that the man to give aba the greatest facelift in its history was a non indigenous ngwa or even abia man.

There is certainly no need to adopt the yankee system. As far as the student is qualified and the vacancies exist then he or she should be allowed to study any professional course at the time of their choosing. How many years do some dreamers here expect a student to spend in the university system? angry

As for hiring unqualified teachers well how many graduates of whatever discipline are prepared to live permanently in the rural areas?
Its about rural - urban imbalance rather than an overall shorage of qualified teachers

Be that as it may in the future I certainly envisage that the private sector would play an increasingly dominant role in the running of primary secondary and tertiary schools in the nearest future. That is certainly more realistic than vainly expecting the FGN Tto pump more money into the system.
that is another problem i think we have been having for a long time.

To be honest, they are 'embezzling it (the allocated money) like others'!

The sense I get, from members of my extended family who occasionally go about soliciting for contracts from some of those LGA chairmen, is that the indigenes are being 'marginalised' from partaking in the obscene carnival of resource-squandering that goes on at those Local Government offices-at the expense of salaries, development etc obviously and to the knowledge of the state governor, who gets his share! One of my cousins who now prefers to look for contracts outside of the state, says that the indigenous contractors are treated with such open contempt and derision that that that sense of being occupied by 'outsiders' continues to be re-enforced. And from all indications, seem to be getting more intense.

So it's difficult not to see why things are getting so heated up!

The pervading attitude, which i don't necessarily subscribe to, now seems to be; IF the money meant for development of the community must be misappropriated, then let the indigenes do the misappropriating! Unfortunately even in those LGA's where the 'indigenes' are in control of the 'resources', it's still only a powerful clique, who are hands in gloves with the rest of the criminals (like TA Orji, OUK etc) and who use OUR money to feed their insatiable appetites. They send their families abroad to live in the various properties they have bought in the UK and the USA, send their children to private schools abroad, and then use the leftovers to try to consolidate on their political ambitions by buying cups of rice and garri to distribute to the impoverished lesser human beings that make up the population of their run down LGA's!

This is a thing of shame.

The issue of non indigenes of ala Ngwa becoming LGA chairmen, is mostly an Aba thing.

Isiala Ngwa North and South LGA's, for instance, have always had chairmen from those areas.
Now those Lgas how are they faring?the chairmen who have always come from ngwa are they developing the area with the allocated money or are the embezzling it like others?

Actually a really good post, I like it.
Well, we're not even politically evolved enough to vote the right black people in power, how much more naturalized Nigerians? For the Lebanese and Indians, they are more content to despoil the nation and cart away our natural wealth, while watching us scramble to curry their favours, and fight over the little bribes and foreign love-peddlers they can offer our leaders.

See how past and present Nigerian rulers are running after the Chagourys. I heard from a Lebanese colleague that Chagoury's castle in Beirut is an 8th World wonder. Same as the Vaswanis.

Seems the Spambot got me there.
Anyway, no need, as the naturalized Nigerians don't need to be in our politics. Why would they, when the people that have power are running after them everyday, seeking their favours? They didn't naturalize as Nigerians because it was some kind of liberal democratic ideal, they naturalized because they saw a country that had so much wealth, plus a whole generation of morons running it. Just check out the Chagourys and Vaswanis, and see how the so-called elite are scrambling to be their friends.

When I read through this thread and so many other threads on this Nairaland, it pains me that Nigeria is the fast train of producing another failed generation of bigots

Rather than discuss a grave matter such as the kidnapping of innocent children, some idiots here have turned it into a tribal blame game

The hausas and Yoruba say its an Ibo problem, The igbos of anambra and Imo say its an abia problems. the abians of arochukwu and Umuahia say its an Ngwa problems. Very soon you will get some Ngwans that will say its an Isiala ngwa problem and not obioma ngwa. meanwhile the matter remains as it is

a lot of us a products of unity schools and NYSC, some of us are working in stations away from our place of birth, some of us even live away from our country of birth. Some of us have experinced racism from whites, Jamo, Indians and Arabs. but we still come here and spew hatred on our own brothers and sisters because we are intellectually lazy to think of solutions, as it is much easier to blame the next man. its his problem. It is a crying shame

I bet you if someone like Barack obama was a Nigerian he will never get elected to the presidency. Some glass half empty people will rather see that he is half-white and use it as a negative, than celebrate that he is half-black and turn it into a positive
you dey mind them.it is always easier to lay blame on others.i am sure if it was in nigeria that the CRACK EPIDEMIC THAT RAVAGED LOS ANGELES instead of finding creative and intelligent ways of solving the issue we would conviniently blame people of los angeles.

I understand that some Ngwa people turned against Ndigbo during civil war. True or False?

And BTW, why do Northern Igbo always look down on Southern?

Anyway, I don't understand all this Ngwa this, Ngwa that. I be Ngwa man by blood o, and my great grandma is from nearby Etche. What is the link between Ngwa and Etche since I understand that the kidnappers freely traverse both territories. It would seem Ngwa people connect better with their cousins in Rivers State than the Northern Igbo gentrificationists. Hehehehehe

I maintain that Aba is the only place in Nigeria where we have ever come close to industrial revolution. The people there showed serious flair for production of goods from electricals to household items. This kind of production skills and techniques would have been seriously encouraged and given legal avenue in more serious countries like China, but in Naija everything is wasted. I remember that the Nigerian army did encourage some legalisation of Aba made goods by ordering all their boots from Aba. If the people of Aba showed us anything in Nigeria, its that we could become a Japan or China here in Africa. All this talk of Ngwa this, Ngwa that in unprogressive. Name any community in Nigeria which hasn't broken down over the last 30 years. Some just do it faster than others. When the kidnappers were in Rivers, lot of Igbo used to say Ijaw boys done come again, although we maintained that Igbo boys were responsible for most of the inner-city kidnappings in PH. Now e done overhwhelm Aba, na Ngwa turn. Wetin una go talk when Owerri and Anambra inevitably descend into total anarchy as is the inevitable fate of all Nigerian cities?
at first bolded i think there was political shenenigans in the eastern region before the war.

at the second bolded one of the worst deficences we have as nigerians and even africans in generall is that we never seem to harness and nurture  the the potential positiveness in people but when those people turn that potentiality to negativeness people will come pontificating.

i am sure it the white man had been in charge of running aba since independence it would have been a different story now.it is a well known fact that people in that city(whether indegene or settler) are outragoulsy creative but of course nothing was done since independence (except mbakwe's era) to do anything meaninful to help that city.now crime is everywhere and what people now do is open their mouth and pontificate that people are bad and this and that.

just imagine shangai without effective policing and decay and dearth of infrastrucure.
