Abagworo: Ojukwu,Ekwueme,Achebe,Okigbo,Emeagwali,Akunyili,Soludo to mention but a few.Anambra is indeed full of brains.Had it not been for the massive migrations,Anambra should also be the most populous state in Nigeria.People mock them as traders but yet they keep making giant strives in corporate, academic and scientific world. My problem lies in their inability to harness these great endowments to their benefit.Onitsha is a disorganized slum while Awka is merely a glorified village.Abakaliki is now bigger and more developed than Awka. Guy you dey sure about the above I think anambra like some other states celebrate individuals more than developemnt within the state. Ibime: Na brainbox we go chop? Onitsha is a derelict slum.
If Anambra na brainbox, Ekiti must must be the brain inside the brain box. I do not think it is only academic qualifications or proffersoship that is being talked about.Industrialists can also be regarded as brains. |

"This issue of northern forum endorse, ohaneze ndigbo endorse, oduduwa association endorse" is all nonsense, these social clubs are not the populace. All these presidential aspirants should tell us what they can offer, and they should also tell us how(practically) they intend achieving the offer within budget. They should stop wasting their money on these social clubs. They should meet with the masses who are the majority of the electorate, "OR MAY BE OUR VOTE WON'T COUNT". +1 as if all these cultural groups' endorsements means that they ethnic or sectoinal group they 'represent' will automatically vote for who the endorse |

chyz: why the Hmph? mikeansy: Ohaneze Ndigbo should be a succour for all Igbos. Whether you find yourself in PDP or you support APGA or ANPP or PPA or ACN. Endorsing a particular candidate alienates all her members who do not subscribe to this particular view and so this move for me is bone headed. Ralph Uwuechue as President should shield the organisation from divisive politics.
Champion Newspaper belongs to Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. We know that Iwuanyanwu, Ezeife and may be lately Ralph Uwuechue supports Jonathan. They are well in their rights to do so. But to present this view as the general view of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is very dangerous for the organisation because some Igbos may prefer to listen to the likes of Dr Alex Ekwueme, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and Sen Ken Nnamani who hold a contrary view.
Are these other Igbos no longer Igbos? or are they no longer legitimate members of Ohaneze Ndigbo?.
It is my hope for the sake of the organisation that this is a rushed statement that will be retracted. Ohaneze is an organisation of people with common language, tribe, culture, traditions . . . . . but not necessarily common political persuation. So I don't see the point of endorsing a single political candidate. |

AjanleKoko: The essay describes not only the Nigerian situation, but the plight of the black man across the globe.
Contacts in SA are telling me how the blacks are gradually instigating decay into the polity over there. Shouldn't be long till they are right where we are now. Actually, Nigeria is not much different than medieval Europe prior to the Renaissance. Somehow we just need to rally around someone that can break with the past. He doesn't even need to be cut from any idealistic cloth, just someone willing to break with the past. Henry VIII unwittingly triggered the Renaissance because of his determination to break with the Holy Roman traditions, though his intentions were anything but noble. But he played his part and moved on. From all the candidates we have jostling for the presidency right now, I'd say Jonathan is the most likely candidate to do so. IBB is obviously a desperate power-hungry hypocrite. Buhari is blinded by ego and the need to prove some kind of point, not by any desire to move the nation forward. He is a good man though. Atiku is a crook period. The other chaps are just the regular bunch of clowns hanging around every 4 years, Ribadu included. I have been thinking about this for a while i have also been trying to convince myself that it is not true until the earthquake in haiti made me realise that there seems to be a problem with the way the blackman thinks. i mean haiti has been independent from france for more than 100 years and is not in the afriacan continent but country itself apart from the earthquake crises is no different from the countries in the african continent when you factor developent indices, thinking and gennral quality of life . |

Akande joins Presidency race By Festus Owete October 11, 2010 03:30AM print email Harry Akande, the former Board of Trustees chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), has declared his intention to contest in next year's Presidential election on the platform of the party. Mr. Akande made the declaration during a tour of some northern states, saying there is increasing pressure on him to run for the plum job. He said he will no longer ignore the pressure. Last month, the billionaire businessman lost in a bid to become chairman of the party during its national convention on September 19. He lost to the current chairman, Ogbonnaya Onu by 1479 to 3945. Race to win His entry into the race brings to three the number of ANPP members wishing to vie for the presidency. The others are the governor of Kano State, Ibrhahim Shekarau and Bashir Othman Tofa. "People requested me to run presidency, the overture is high and I don't think I will keep off from the will of the people. I will be running for presidency to win election, and not to posture or put my name on the list," Mr Akande told party faithful in Katsina. "Gone are the days when people say that what is important is to participate at the Olympics and not winning the medals. That is simply a case of wanton waste of resources and energy, as well taken failure as a norm." Mr Akande noted that his entry into the race was premised on his commitment to women and youth development in the country. He pledged to manage the resources of the nation prudently, adding that Nigeria could rank among the best countries in the world if it finds a man who can provide the right leadership. The politician said he is still in love with the ANPP despite his failure to become chairman, stressing that "the party belongs to the people and those who have the interest of the people at heart must resist every attempts by some few individuals turning it to their personal political instrument." He added, "My advocacy and struggle in the party is to establish that ANPP belongs to the people and the real people must be given the right to choose their leader. Consensus is no more a contemporary language in politics, election is the hallmark of every good Democracy." http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5629091-146/akande_joins_presidency_race__.csp |

today, if newsline is still running at all, it is showcasing weddings where people spray dollars (in deference to the criminalizing of spraying of the naira) Which means we gradually take bad habits as a way of life eventually. |

I imagine all the times I have tried to defend naija and now another documentary in less than 6 months after "Welcome to Lagos". I think the BBC has delibrately set out to destroy the image of Nigeria for some political reasons.
I dont agree with people extorting money from innocent citizens or "agbero" sponsored governors or even state governors eloping with "street thugs" but why must bbc always show the bad side of naija?
If you have been to Peckham, Dalston, Tottenham etc you would know London has its own version of area boys too. Go out in the night in these places are see for yourself - packs of hooded hooligans roaming around and harrasing and mugging people. Its the same here as well.
Why cant the BBC show Abuja or other beautiful places in naija? Is London more beautiful than Abuja? I doubt. Is this supposed to be a joke ?When last have you been to abuja? |
