In Africa small countries are usually also poor. . countries like swaziland and lesotho or Gambia and Mauritania(small population)

In a Global world u need a critical mass to be able to compete. . .
I think nigerians are actually more interested in the average nigerian having a better standard on living than competing in global world.

It is what it is, I guess. I'm not too keen on the whole 'Igbo' thing anyway (at least, not the way others are). As far as I know, I identify myself as Ngwa (or Ngwa-Igbo, at best), and I'm satisfied with being an Ngwa son. People can also feel free to gloss me over as "Igbo". After all, I do, to an extent, recognize the existent similarity to other Igbo-like clans. More importantly though, the glossing does not disrupt me being Ngwa nor my clan consciousness. It's not as if I'm being obligated to forego Ngwa and adopt "Igbo". So no qualms, I guess.
I doubt if anyone is dragging the above with you.You seem to be one that is always repeating it to yourself as if someone is threathning your ngwa consiousness.

No need trying to be hardheaded.Like cantell said igbo language is not up to 60 percent in english translation.

You honestly think there is a word for snow in igbo huhIs snow natural to Africa let alone igboland huh

- hammer= no idea
- guitar=no idea
- window=mpio
- door (the actual door, not "uzo", the doorway)=cantell has already told you
- kitchen cabinet=no idea
- crystal = no idea
- to or.gasm= goodluck with this one
- snow=goodluck with this onw
- privacy=cannot remeber now
- network=no idea
- towel=cannot remember
- mascot= huh
- safe (the container)=cannot remeber
- change (monetary)=i might be wrong but i do not think there is a direct translation
- logic= huh
- quarantine= huh
- hernia
- razor
- pond=iyi can mean either this or river
- cat= nwaologbo
- deck/porch
- multiplication

This is what you get when a language is not used a medium for teaching of subjects in school. Its utility becomes stagnant.

The problem is that Igbo people are very IGNORANT of fellow Igbos. I just had a heated argument with an Igbo guy from Enugwu Ukwu about a certain aspect of Aro-Igbo culture and he said its non Igbo. SUCH IGNORANCE and LACK OF RESPECT. He had a problem with me saying I am both Awka and Aro when he doesn't know that in his own Enugu-Ukwu and Awka area it might be wrong but in Arochukwu, Abiriba culture your mom's side is totally okay to claim without mentioning your father and that is not a dislike of your dad's culture or people. Ijaw has some of that strong maternal stuff too. Basically to him it be silly to that but to us in that area its not.

Anyways point is that Igbo is diverse Igbo bu Igbo. A lot of Igbo ppl I noticed are way too ignorant and think everything pure Igbo is their village or if they are even nice about it their own state or SE alone. Igbo ppl too sabi disrespect eachother but either way I'm still proud to be one.

I digress but that shyt pissed me the hell off.
it is lack of mixing that causes that.someone that grew up in places like owerri, aba, onitsha or enugu is not likely to behave that way.

@ 006. Why u come charge emotions for here again? U are a dullard like ojukwu who knows nothing about grand strategy. What is wrong is wrong. Is it right to have involved the delta igbo in the war when they were not consulted? That's a very bad strategy. Tell me why did the ijaw, urhobo and other groups in the SS fought on the federal side? They were angry. They didn't threaten biafra in any way, yet biafra bought war to them. If biafra had taken the war to the north they were fighting, o.k. But u bought war to the door of innocent people and expected them to support you. Even though the delta igbo supported their brothers, it is wrong that they were involved actively without being consulted. That is demoralisation. If the Yoruba, bini, et al had been persuaded to team up with the igbo, things wouldn't have been the same today. If you don't see what is wrong in giving other people trouble without consulting them, na your own wahala. Ever seen america in a war without allies? You don't fight a war alone (as in case of vietnam) and expect to win. People just suffer for nothing. On bakassi, u spewed sputum. Gowon gave bakassi to cameroun coz biafra was using it to import arms. U showed great irresponsibility when u asked what did delta igbo do. Is it delta igbo's responsibility to talk out/secure a place that is closer to biafra and was also used to import arms by biafra? Who do you expect to listen to minority delta igbo when the majority eastern igbo is quiet. A man who caused the ruin of a place is blaming the man who helped him secure the place (delta/rivers igbo) for not talking when the place has been ruined. Irresponsibility in its highest. angry
You are talking with too much emotions. How did Ojukwu bring war to the delta igbos?Where the Delta igbos in the defunct eastern region? The former eastern regional house of assembly urged Ojukwu to declare biafra. How did the delta igbos come into this? Are you are aware the Delta igbos were in the then midwest?

As for insinuating that biafra brought war to delta igbos are you aware that the majority igbo guys at the forefront on the nzeogwu coup where delta igbo?Do you know Nzeogwu's and Onwuatuegwu place?

You say you grew up western nigeria. It is better you have a balanced view on what led to the war.
By all logic, a team should have more midfielders than strikers.
Of course, Nigeria as a country do things that defy logic.

Who goes into a tournament with 7 strikers? How many of those can you play at a time?
U will just have a bench filled with strikers who will not get a chance at playing.

We are going to the world cup, people. . .
A competition where if you don't concede goals, you cannot LOSE.

If their primary role is not striking, i see no reason why they should make it.
Go back to the days of Westerhof and Bonfrere Jo. . . . .None of em took 7 strikers to a football tournament.
Something is wrong with the set-up. 7 strikers is way too much and it sounds desperate.

If we commit too many players to attack, we will get HURT as well.
U claimed Kanu, Osaze, Nsofor and Utaka are not strikers, how defensive are these players when Nigeria is leading and we need to see a game off?
By the time we lose the first two games, y'all will come back here to start criticizing when you should have pointed it out in the first place.
I am not a fan of hindsight analysis. Nigeria will be exposed with 4-3-3. We are not equipped enough to function with it.

5 strikers should have been enough. . . . .
No formation requires you to have more than 2-3 strikers in a team. Why do you then need 7?
SEVEN?? Our coaching crew are CLUELESS.
USA94

Rasheed Yekini

I believe the choice of Lagos and Abuja was based on the fact that commercially they are the main commercial hub, the Abas, Port Harcourt, Onitshas, Nnewi, Kaduna and the rest could be part of a designed second phase; maybe they have decided to work in phases, that is probably a 3 phase project, where Lagos and Abuja being the former and the current capitals or the commercial and administrative capitals, then the next commercial cities will follow, before the rural areas; lets be positive with Jonathan, and let also remember that his distractors will be trying to capitalise on our negative attitudes, so let be positive
I do not believe the story but what makes abuja a commercial hub?

Yerima: Sharia Council drags Mark, Bankole, NHRC to Court
Headlines Jun 2, 2010

By Luka Binniyat

KADUNA – The controversy surrounding the marriage of Senator Ahmed Yerima to an Egyptian 13 year old, is gaining storm, as the Registered Trustees of Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria has dragged to an Abuja High Court, the heads of the two chambers of the National Assembly, and the National Human Right Commission (NHRC).

The Sharia Council, which file the case at the Federal High Court of Justice, Abuja, early last week, is asking that the court declares that the Fundamental Human Rights of Senator Yeima by the decision of the Senate, the House of Representatives and the NHRC to investigate the said marriage to the Egyptian minor, has been bridged.

Counsel to the Sharia body, Mohammed Ndanusa Katu, wants the court to declare that the actions of the Senate President, Senator David Mark, the Speaker of the Reps, Dimeji Bankole and the NHCR in probing Yerima’s marriage to the Egyptian minor, amounts to an infringement and invasion of the Senators right to his family privacy and his right to practice, propagate and manifest the doctrine of his religion as enshrined in section 37 and 38 of the Nigerian Constitution.

They also want the three defendants to determine before the court within 8 days, “whether by the virtue of section 1 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN), which asserts its supremacy and the binding force on all authorities, any law that is inconsistent with any of its provision ought not be declare null and void to the extend of such inconsistency”.

The Ulamas also want the defendants to show whether by virtue of section 37 of the 1999 Constitution , every Nigerian citizen is not entitled to enjoy and protect his private and family life without any let or hindrance or interference from any person.

The Sharia Supreme Council, then wants the Court to order a perpetual injunction restraining defendants, their agents or privies howsoever from taking any further step or action in relation to the subject matter, until the determination of the case.

The case is coming up for hearing 8th of June

Politics › Bukhari Bello Is New Inec Boss by asha80(op): 8:40am On Jun 02, 2010
Bukhari Bello is new INEC boss
Headlines Jun 2, 2010
Bukhari Bello
By Jide Ajani
LAGOS—BARRING any last minute change of mind by President Goodluck Jonathan, there are very strong indications that Bukhari Bello would replace out-going National Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu and this is authoritative.
In addition, the National Council of State, NCS, a body made up of past heads of state and Chief Justice of the Federation, with all the state governors will meet Thursday to consider the nomination as required by the constitution.

Vanguard can also disclose that Bello’s nomination might have been the indirect result of consultations with a key segment of the Nigerian society: the human rights community.Enquiries by Vanguard, yesterday, revealed that Bello, who might “have been screened and passed fit to be the chairman of INEC, is very capable” of taking charge at INEC.

Contrary to speculations in the media, Vanguard can authoritatively reveal that Nigerians would be shocked at the expected announcement of Bello as the new helmsman at INEC.

Vanguard’s cue on the possible person to replace Professor Iwu was provided by President Jonathan in far away Nice, France. A source said that Mr. President had immuned himself from “the plethora of persons who had been presented as possible replacement.”

Bello, who had been at the helm of affairs at the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, is said “to be a very energetic and zealous individual.”

Vanguard can confirm that President Jonathan had never met Bello before in his life. In fact, the delay in the announcement, apart from the needed endorsement of the NCS, was caused by Jonathan’s lack of any personal of filial relationship with the nominee. Vanguard can also confirm that Bello’s nomination was the handiwork of a bloc, the human rights community.

Jonathan’s cue

President Jonathan had, Sunday, in France revealed that the final screening for a new INEC Chairman was concluded Saturday night, and would be made known to Nigerians after the National Council of State, NCS, had ratified the nomination.

Jonathan also said that though he had neither seen nor met the new appointee all his life, but from the report of the screening, the new man could possess the needed energy and zeal to conduct credible elections that could stand the test of time.

President Jonathan had also made it clear that none of those being speculated by the Nigerian media came close to the identity of the man that would eventually emerge, noting that throughout his career as civil servant and politician he never met with the lucky Nigerian.

Jonathan, who arrived the Nice International Airport at 3.00 p.m. (local time) narrated how the names of possible nominees (State commissioners) proposed and submitted to him by some governors for consideration were jettisoned simply because of his desire to give the best to Nigerians.

He also noted that after the stabilization of the nation’s polity, one of his priorities was how to conduct credible elections for Nigerians, adding that he hoped to achieve this by giving it all it takes for the nation to get it right for the first time, in terms of elections where every vote counts, appeared excited at the choice he had made for Nigerians.
