hilli666: Nothing, but thats not the point is it? The point is, Like Obama so eloquently put it, "yes we can" and we will. The Nigerian war machine has laid dormant for years, while politicians use defense contracts to embezzle billions. We have some state of the art weaponry that we can deploy in Cameroon just for laughs. That will send a strong message to the rest of Africa "that they shouldnt forget that "we are by nature. an imperialistic people" just check our history. We should be the one taking land not the other way round. What makes nigeria an imperialistic nation? Are there egs of these imperia;ism in the past? |

hilli666: This is a great oppurtunity for Nigeria to declare war on Cameroon. Then when we win the war we can claim the whole territory of Cameroon and use it for farm land just like Hitler initially intented. (have you seen what we have in our mechanised and amphibious division?. Ask the Liberian rebels and they will quickly tell you how quiet they got when Nigeria docked their big battle ships of their coast) What we done with the vast arable and also farmlands within nigeria? |

Schools in UK are shamelessly marketing in Nigeria like anything. I saw an ad today in the paper, something like 'sign up your friends and get one course free!' or the LSBF's 'Register for CIMA, get a free MBA thrown in!'. What nonsense. I saw a similar thing yesterday hence this thread. It just seems to me that these foreign univeristies are just seeing nigeria as just some kind of market to look for funds. |

Politics › S’south Endorses Jonathan by asha80(op): 5:22pm On Jul 27, 2010 |
The South-south yesterday raised the stake in the permutations for the 2011 presidential election as it asked President Goodluck Jonathan to openly declare his interest in the race and to run in next year’s election.Political leaders and stakeholders in the region at the South-south Stakeholders’ Forum held at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, resolved to back their ‘son’ for the exalted position, which they said was placed on their laps by “divine intervention”. Jonathan is from the Ijaw state of Bayelsa in the zone. And as the 19 Northern governors meet today in Kaduna to decide on zoning, some of the state chief executives are insisting on the retention of zoning of the presidency in the North in a move to up the ante and get a good political bargain.THISDAY has also gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) are eagerly waiting for the outcome of the Northern governors’ meeting. Meanwhile, it has emerged that Vice-President Namadi Sambo is moving round his former colleagues, the 19 governors of the Northern states, to get them to discard the zoning arrangement and endorse President Jonathan for 2011.The South-south at the summit lamented that the region has neither produced a president nor head of state in the 50 years of Nigeria as a sovereign state despite its contributions to the country. Every notable political heavyweight in the region was in attendance at the summit, which was convened by the South-south governors. Each of the six states in the region sent 40 delegates to the meeting. In a communiqué at the end of the summit, the South-south stakeholders urged the President to contest and to declare his intention immediately as his brief sojourn in power “has proved his ability and commitment to steer the ship of state to a successful berth”. The stakeholders resolved as follows: “Summit believes in President Jonathan’s resolve to give Nigeria credible electoral reforms, which he began by appointing a world-acclaimed social crusader and defender of equity, honesty and integrity, Professor Attahiru Jega as the country’s new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and calls on all Nigerians to support the amended constitution. “Summit believes in the incontrovertible position of the Nigerian constitution that gives full rights to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, above all other considerations, to aspire to the position of president at the 2011 elections, more so as the zone, in spite of its enormous contributions to Nigeria’s GDP, is yet to produce a President or Head of State in the fifty (50) years of Nigeria’s existence as a sovereign nation “Accordingly, summit hereby unanimously calls on Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to openly declare his interest in the 2011 presidential election without further delay and to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “While assuring President Jonathan of total and undiluted support of the entire South-south, summit calls on all other geo-political zones, organizations, communities and constituencies to support this quest to deepen, widen and consolidate democracy by supporting Goodluck Jonathan for President.” The forum expressed its belief in achieving its agitation by constitutional means within one and indivisible Nigeria , which they pledged loyalty to and resolve to continue in helping to build a virile nation where the rights of individual members would be respected. The forum commended late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua whom they eulogised for deftly pursuing the interest of the people of the region, adding that since Yar’Adua was on a joint ticket with Jonathan, it was simple logic that since the boss was no longer in position to complete the tenure, his deputy should do so. The leaders reminded the North that they had been loyal even to the preservation of the unity of the country as their support for Biafra would have seen the end of Nigeria but they acted in support of the North, which is the reason Nigeria did not disintegrate. They further charged all interest groups in the region to mobilise and lobby other regions for their support as Jonathan was not going to be a regional president but the president of the entire country. Speaking at the well-attended forum, First Republic Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Clark charged the region not to be silent anymore but to come together and speak with one voice and insist that their economic and political contributions mandate other regions of the country especially the North to reciprocate their past support for them. He said no principle like zoning should be allowed to occasion injustice, reminding those clamouring for zoning that the principle died in 2003 and therefore should not be revived just to hurt the interest of the South-south. Chairman of the South-south Governors Forum, Senator Liyel Imoke, said they convened the forum to forge a common front in realising the goal of producing a viable and corrupt free leadership for the country.Former Minister of Works and member of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, warned the country against conducting the 2011 elections in January as proposed in the amended constitution portends danger and would not guarantee a free and fair poll. Anenih who said he was refraining from commenting on zoning issue as it “had been battered beyond recognition”, adding that as the nation was turning 50 as a sovereign state, there was need for a focused and energetic leader to give the country a new lease of life. Various speakers like the Chairman of the South-south Caucus in the House of Representatives, Chief Andrew Uchendu, spoke of their support for the project while Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State also pledged the support of the state for the project, saying it is a mission accomplished. Former Bayelsa State Governor Diepriye Alamieseigha who spoke on behalf of former governors canvassed a strategic plan that would not be discussed in the open on how to achieve the goal. The outgoing ANPP National Chairman, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, told THISDAY that the party is waiting to see the position to be taken by the Northern governors. This, he said, would determine ANPP’s position, saying “we will shock PDP. We are waiting.” All the 19 Northern Governors have indicated their interest in attending today's meeting, some officials of the Northern Governors' Forum (NGF) secretariat told THISDAY. Sources close to the Vice-President said Sambo has involved himself in the zoning issue and has urged his former colleagues to support President Jonathan if he decides to contest in next year's election. "I can tell you that the VP has since last week been urging his former colleagues to discard the zoning issue at least for now. He has also told them to consider the overall interest of the country in their decision on the matter," the source said. THISDAY gathered that some politicians close to the vice-president have also been involved in the effort. One of Sambo's special advisers, Alhaji Hussaini Jallo, is said to have been busy mobilising support for Jonathan in the region. It is not clear yet how the governors are responding to Sambo's subtle pressure but sources said support for Jonathan is rising in the North. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=179278 |

Ebenezer Babatope, says the race was not for paupers. Photo: NEXT PDP disqualifies aspirants with less than N500m NAN July 26, 2010 11:30PM print email The PDP in Osun East senatorial district declared on Monday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, that it had disqualified governorship aspirants in the area who had less than N500 million in their bank accounts. Duro Famojuro, the party’s deputy leader of Ijesa Elders’ Caucus, said this at a news a conference in Ilesa, organised to present the party’s aspirant from the area. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Gbenga Onigbogi, a House of Representatives member, who was adopted by the group, formally declared his intention for the 2011 governorship election. Mr. Famojuro said the caucus investigated the background of about 14 aspirants, to determine their legibility and financial strength through their bank accounts. He said the scrutiny was necessary to avoid the mistake of the past when the party sponsored campaigns for aspirants. “Anybody who has less than N500 million can’t go for the governorship race. It is the caucus’ decision that nobody will give aspirants the money to campaign.” Mr. Famojuro said Mr. Onigbogi met the criteria and had been adopted as the only aspirant qualified to run the race in Ijesaland for the governorship seat. He also said that many young aspirants were eliminated because they had not contested for even a councillorship position before aspiring to become governor. Paupers are not welcome Ebenezer Babatope, a PDP chieftain and a member of the caucus, said the race was not for paupers. On complaints by some aspirants that the group was exploiting them, Mr. Babatope said they failed to meet the requirements. The former minister of transport said a committee was set up to scrutinise aspirants who were required to pay money for the exercise. He said that though many of the aspirants failed to pay the levies, the caucus did not stop anyone from pursuing his governorship ambition. “If the party at the state level conducts free, fair, and open primaries, we, the elders here, are ready to embrace whoever emerges as the PDP candidate for the election,” he declared. Onigbogi, who represents Ijesa South federal constituency, pledged to embark on an agrarian revolution to turn around the agricultural fortune of the state, if elected. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/Metro/Politics/5599268-146/pdp_disqualifies_aspirants_with_less_than.csp |

cap28: becomrich i would advise you to seek immediate psychiatric attention as you seem to be in a very unstable condition - who told you america remains neutral with regard to the internal politics of other countries - let me ask you a question:
who assassinated Murtala Mohammed in 1976?
who overthrew Kwame Nkrumah in 1966?
who removed Manuel Noriega of Panama in 1989 - and can you tell me why he is serving life imprisonment in a Miami jail?
who kidnapped former Haitian president - Jean Bertrand Aristide and DEPORTED him to Congo in 2004?
who abducted Hugo Chavez in 2003 and tried to have him murdered?
who murdered Patrice Lumumba of Zaire in 1964 and replaced him with dictator Mobutu?
who threatened to launch a nuclear strike on Cuba in 1961?
You better go back and get some treatment from your shrink then do a crash course on US imperialism.
now back to the topic
the handwriting is now on the wall, the US have shown their hand - does anyone know of any non western country that the US supports that engages in a democratic system of government.
The US was responsible for eliminating Yaradua and replacing him with their docile puppet Jonathan under instructions from their agent Obasanjo - Obasanjo has been on the CIA payroll since the 70's this is why he keeps wandering in and out of the corridors of power whenever he feels like, Abacha like Yaradua was seen as a thorn in the side of the US when he stopped taking orders from washington and decided that he could make his own decisions without consulting them first, unfortunately enough for him he underestimated the ruthlessness of american imperialism and paid with his life.
Walter Carrington has long been involved in nigerian politics therefore it is ludicrous for him to blatantly lie about his involvement in the nigerian political system as the US and the British have been teleguiding the political and economic direction of nigeria since independence.
The sooner nigerians wake up and understand what is really going on the better for us, we are yet to take control of our political and economic destiny, nigerian is a client state of the US and Britain and will remain one until we have a revolution which will clear out this band of criminals who have decided to collude with foreigners to destroy our country and the lives of future generations to come.
Nzeogwu tried it but was stopped by cowardly gutless Ironsi and other hopeless and delusional fools, now look at where we are today, it is going to take a completely new and radicalised generation of courageous young nigerians to overthrow the tyranny that exists in present day nigeria, and it will be no easy task, the civil war of 67-70 will be childs play compared to what is to come. |
Politics › Re: Self Determination In Africa - What Makes European Countries So Special? >:( by asha80(m): 8:48pm On Jul 23, 2010 |
ezeagu: This topic, hmm.
Unfortunately for Africa, whenever someone brings up this topic they are called a selfish "tribalist". I remember posting maps of what ethnic countries carved out of Nigeria would look like, a poster actually equated the countries on the map to "concentration camps".
One of the problems is that African's lack imagination, better yet, the African imagination has been destroyed. A very good example of this is in the arts, look at the ancient Benin bronzes and compare them to the brass objects the people of Benin City make today. You may all know the reason for this demoralisation and loss of imagination. Colonisation of the mind, body and worst of all, spirit.
There are many who want their own country where they have a national culture, but they're too scared to say it because it's not a popular aspiration. What can a Nigerian say is uniquely 'Nigerian', that is a unique characteristic that is national and not unique to only one culture in a section of the country? Jellof rice? No! Music? No, unless Hip-hop and ragga was created in Nigeria. Clothing? No! No national dress, as much as people try and push lace, different regions wear them differently. Language? No! I know what you may be asking, what about 'pigeon'? Pigeon is Sierra Leonean, yes it has Nigerian 'bits' in it, but those bits largely came from ex-slaves. Art? Architecture? Dance? Climate? Even common looks? All no! In Biafra they all had Ekpe, or a derivative, as a unifying factor like the Free Masons, they had art as a unifying factor, the 'Biafrans' all wore 'George', the 'Biafrans' all sang High life, the 'Biafrans' were intermixed and sometimes you couldn't tell where an ethnic boundary stopped or started because of the similarity yet diversity inside the groups themselves, the 'Biafrans' even before Biafra gelled together overseas during slavery, the 'Biafrans' had similar spirituality, the 'Biafrans' mostly spoke one language and the people who the dominant language was native to spoke the other Biafran languages many of the time, the 'Biafrans' knew in depth knowledge about each other's cultures and customs, the 'Biafrans' were even said to have a common descent.
I'm sorry I was going off on my "selfish tribalist" rant.
The fact is, if Nigeria was a European country, it would not exist. The popular reply to anyone with the opinion like that of this thread is "it is our leaders", which makes me wonder what juju were the leaders of Benin sworn under to create a city that is more than ten times sophisticated and uniquely Edo than the current Benin City. I think the bolded is the main crux. |

EzeUche: Agreed.
What we should be asking is how do we get back to our pre-colonial states?
It doesn't make any sense that the Hausa are split up among different countries.
I remember hearing a story in which Shagari went to Niger to speak with his counterpart and they had to use interpreters since he spoke English and his counterpart spoke French. Shagari decided that this was nonsense, since they both spoke Hausa so they started conversing in Hausa. I doubt if africans generally have the patience.foresight and preserverance to do such.We are so much intersted in immediate gratification. Also some of the precolonial states and goups actually saw themselves differntly back then unlike now. |

rethink: @aisha80 On the contrary Aisha I am just sharing my view on the matters Arising. Infact this thread is a tribal one and I have my personal view on tribalism
In my prelude I said this thread is a tribal one because you Ezeuche said the basis of self determination should be language. Language is a tribal matter. Now i do believe our languages are very similar but it is very easy to use language to divide nigerian so that the PARASITIC ELITE AND THEIR AGENTS can easily steal the money in a localized manner.
I like to face the truth. The tribal parasitic elites that never raised a finger to fight the white slave masters are saying we want our own countries so that we can steal more.
They say it is better for our tribes man to steal our lands money than some cow chasing Yoruba Yoruba person.
I asked an ugheli guy once that since you guys have oil you are blessed he said " the oil no dey our place" The ughelian speaks Urhobo First it is asha not aisha and i am not from the north which is what you might think. First this is about Africa as a whole.Stop narrowing to nigeria. I do not care about whether oil or no oil so whether you talk to an ughelli guy about oil being found in his back yard has nothing to do with what this thread is all about. Nobody is talking oil here. |

I think next year will be a monumental year in the entire international systerm. The ruling of the courts to give say that Kosovo was not acting criminally when they declared independence in 2008, is going to send shockwaves around the world. Not only on the continent of Africa, but also in Asia as well or possibly in Europe. The Basque of Spain were the first to comment on this issue and they said that it has given them more impetus to create their own nation.
Sovereign nations right now will have a hard time containing these independence movements that operate within their nations. The world is going to become a less stable place.
And I am part Ibibio and I know what I am talking about. When an Efik man speaks, I understand, when a Calabari man speaks, I understand. We all speak the same language, but maybe in a different dialect.
In the U.S., you have different dialects of English like southern English, yankee English and midwest English, but they are still one people. Why is Africa any different? As soon as we get rid of these clan based loyalties, the better. The Catalans too |
