Kidnappers deny seizing N3m from journalists, its N1.6m
Headlines Jul 19, 2010 Share |

Wahab Oba addressing the press yesterday in Umuahia.
By Olasunkanmi Akoni

Contrary to the widely publicised statement credited to the just released Chairman Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Wahab Oba, from kidnappers den that the sum of N3 million was seized from them, the kidnappers were said to have denied the amount saying they only collected about N1.6 million from them.

It will be recalled that Oba on arrival in Lagos from Abia State Sunday evening, told Journalists that a total sum of N3 million was seized from them by the kidnappers.

Oba, who was also taken to the headquarters of the State Security Service SSS at Shangisha, Ikosi- Isheri Local Council Development Area Monday evening, told Vanguard that the kidnappers had put a call across to some people denying ever collecting such amount.

His words: “I was surprised when I saw the report today that a sum of N3 million was seized from us by the kidnappers. I must have been misunderstood, what I meant was that the total value of what the kidnappers seized from us would amount to about N2.5 million or N3 million in total value.

“At least about N1.6 million in cash was seized from us instantly while other properties such as Vehicle, a Serena Space bus, Laptop, camera, tape recorder, personnel effects, wristwatches, among other valuables should worth about N2 million.

“We got N1 million from Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Godswill Akpabio as a fulfillment of his promise to assist us for a project we are embarking on in Lagos while other money collected from all of us should be about N600,000.

“It is most likely the kidnappers acted based on information because they were getting information on us minute by minute with a threat to kill us anytime.”

Speaking at his residence, Oba, who was looking more refreshed as against Sunday when he looked unkempt, said they got more afraid of their lives when they kept on seeing corpses along the bushes and forest they were made to pass through. But in the end we thank God, because we came out alive, hale and hearty.”

However, men of the state SSS whisked Oba in an unmarked van to their Shangisha office at about 4 pm apparently to ask him information on the N3 million and other essential information concerning their ordeal.

At about 6 pm when Vanguard left Oba’s residence, the SSS were yet to return him back to

There is a reason for a well articulated master plan for a town or city and 100% adherence to the plan.

Abia PDP rejects Kalu
National News Jul 18, 2010 Share | By Henry Umoru , Abuja

Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has refused to admit former governor of the state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, who dumped the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, into its fold.

This was part of the decisions reached by the Abia State PDP after a meeting with the national chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, yesterday.

Besides the ex-governor’s bouncing back into the PDP suffered a major set back with the development, it was gathered that the deputy governor of the state, Chris Akomas, was not allowed into the meeting venue against the backdrop that he was not yet a member of the party.

The Deputy governor had last week been received at the national secretariat of the PDP alongside Kalu.

According to the Abia PDP, Kalu’s past political activities did not go well with the party and his coming back to the PDP would negate the party’s discipline and cohesion as contained in Article 6 of the party’s constitution.

The party noted that the issues affecting the party in the state ought not to have been initiated or concluded without consultation with the state chapter, especially with regards to a state which has produced a Senate president, former national chairman, two former national secretaries as well as former ministers, all of whom are still members of the party.

The resolutions, titled “resolutions by the state executive committee and stakeholders on the state of PDP in Abia State and the attempted return of Chief Orji Uzo Kalu and other decampees to the Peoples Democratic Party” was jointly signed by the state chairman of the party, Chief Sir Ndidi Okereke and the secretary, Solomon Ogunji, among others.

According to a source at the meeting, Nwodo, who received the resolutions, however promised the state executive and other stakeholders that the resolutions and issues raised will be presented before the national working committee of the party on Wednesday for deliberation.

According to the source, “The national chairman in his response said he will henceforth transmit the Abia message which is that there must be sanctions for impunity and wrong doing by the party”.

Abagworo:
you are extremely wrong to have said that.it is just a general agreement to write in onwu orthography that brought about the 26 letters.do you know a town in imo state spelt umuaka?the actual pronunciation is umuakna.many igbo dialects have a deep n behind some consonants like chinenyes ''ohnuhnu'' which is different from ''ohuhu''.if you want to read a conversation in ngwa, visit their page on facebook.i will copy and paste some discussions in ngwa.

Please do.

Gbam!

Let us all invest in Owerri and lets see how these Ngwa will cry, because no one wants to do business with them. Some Igbo groups are very funny trying to separate themselves from the greater whole.

I am an Aro man, but you don't hear Aro people saying this even though our blood is mixed with Igbo and Ibibio groups.
What makes you think Owerri people will not go the same way?

Abagworo:
if this trend is not curbed, the criminals might end up establishing a solid kidnap network very much like the drug mafia across nigeria.i suggest tightening of abia borders for a while until the criminals are fished out.

My guy it is all about good governance and not necessarilly global world.

African countries are generally poor because of incompetent and corrupt leadership mixed with uncle tomizin.
