@poster Mend Says Disarmament Process A Charade, Vows Resumption Of Hostility After Sept « on: Yesterday at 10:18:01 PM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MEND says disarmament process a charade, vows resumption of hostility after September 15 2009 Written by Jomo Gbomo Saturday, 22 August 2009 12:24 "There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will sort out who will go with you and who will not" - God to Gideon (Judges 7:5) The ongoing amnesty program by the government of Nigeria seems to have achieved separating those who still have the zeal to fight for our freedom from those who were in it for the money. Today, Saturday, August 22, 2009 that sorting process was again re-enacted in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state where weapons mostly bought by the government were displayed and the boys separated from the men in the circus. The charade witnessed in Bayelsa is not an indication of success but that of failure considering that the energy put into that event could have been better used in deliberating on the root issues collated in the Niger Delta Technical Committee report which addressed such germane issues from the Willink's Commission of 1958 to date. In the midst of such sheer deceit, MEND will be compelled to resume with ferocious attacks on the oil industry at the end of our ceasefire on September 15, 2009 to prove that weapons being displayed are mostly government-owned and those surrendering them have not been part of the previous campaigns like Hurricanes Barbarossa, Piper Alpha and Moses that brought the government to their knees. We have also suspended talks with the Special Adviser to the President on the amnesty, Mr. Timi Alaibe who like the government, expects a disarmament without the real issues being addressed. MEND will not enter into talks with governors from the region who have tainted the amnesty program with politics and monetary inducements. Many of the boys who have received money today will at best squander it on material things and what happens next can best be left to the imagination. Our solemn pledge to the people of the Niger Delta still remains to emancipate the region from the forces that have held it down for over 50 years with divide and rule, monetary inducements and treachery. http://www.saharareporters.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3522:mend-says-disarmament-process-a-charade-vows-resumption-of-hostility-after-september-15-2009&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 |

sjeezy8:You are fool if you do not know he was actually being sarcastic there. Nigeria begins bitumen exploitation in Ondo State 07-02-05 Exploitation of the vast tarsand, otherwise known as bitumen, has started in Ondo State, with a promise that product from the mineral deposit would be experimented on some roads in the state. Air-Vice Marshall Dagash, while addressing the assembly of host communities at an open forum on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) held at Iju-Odo, Ondo State, said a number of roads consisting local, state and federal would be tarred, to ascertain the suitability of the product before offering it for sale to the outside world. The roads, which he said would be tarred in the next one month, would be a test ground for the progress the consortium has recorded in the exploitation of the hard mineral. BEECON had carried out a lot of studies on the environment impact its operation could have on host communities, in line with the directive of the United States and "we obeyed this to avoid the mistake of the past," Dagash said. "We have learnt from experience of the environment degradation of the oil exploration and exploitation. In a move not to repeat the mistake, that is why we are here today. That is why we put together a team of consultants to assist us on the way to start on a solid foundation." He spoke on the problems caused by oil exploitation in the Niger-Delta region and said, "we must not fall into that pit, more so when we are indigenous company." Dagash allayed the fear of the host communities on gas flaring, failure to pay compensation and insensitivity to the plight of the people. Earlier, Chairman of the occasion and the Abodi of Ikaleland, Oba B.B. Faduyile, expressed joy that bitumen exploitation has commenced after much pessimism. He charged BEECON not to pay lip service to the welfare of the people and to avoid error of the oil areas. "You are coming to our area to take away our mineral and to assist our people. To enjoy this joint venture, we implore you to understand the operation of our communities," he said. Present at the forum were, Professors E.A. Fayose, A. Adefila, Mrs Kofoloja Olugbesan, Chief C.O. Ikuejiminu and Dr Niyi Okunlola among others http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/news/nta50835.htm I guess ondo people are also running away from ondo. |
And we wonder why europians and to some extent south american players last long in the game while there nigerian counterparts fizzle out in about 5 years as they are about getting to their 'peak'. |

NFF board meets over Eaglets age scandal Sports Aug 22, 2009 Members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation are running from pillar to post following the result of the Magnetic Resounding Imaging (MRI) scan carried out on the players of the Golden Eaglets. ![]() And the NFF has called for an emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday at the football house to discuss the issue and the next line of action. The players have already been recalled from their training camp in Bauchi. Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, an Executive Committee member of the NFF and chairman of the Technical Committee would however not disclose the exact number of players that failed the MRI test said, while responding to questions in Abuja Friday, that the football house would critically deliberate on the MRI report on the players of golden Eaglets. “We have not discussed the MRI report since it was sent, and we have scheduled next Tuesday to critically deliberate on it. At the interim, we have asked the players to quickly return to Abuja”, Chief Ogunjobi said. He however stated that the withdrawal of the Eaglets from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association tournament was to avoid international embarrassment. ![]() The players have spent barely one week from the two weeks they were supposed to spend in Bauchi before their MRI result was released by the National Hospital where the test was done. NFF has however directed that the Golden Eaglets’ parents should be summoned to ascertain the exact date of birth of the players. Reports have it that the result of 28 of the 35 players sent to the National Hospital for the MRI screening indicated that they are above the Under-17 required for the Fifa cadet championship, which holds between October 24 and November 15 in the country. Dr Ikpeme, who is the NFF deputy general secretary (Technical) had earlier stated that it was a good development that the result of the test was received before the team was sent to participate in the CECAFA tournament holding in three cities of Sudan – Khartoum, Juba and Medani. “The NFF could have spent huge sum of money in sponsoring the team which a good number of the players would eventually not be part of the Fifa Under-17 World Cup that we are hosting later in the year. “We will want a situation where about 18 to 20 per cent of the players that would represent the country in the Fifa Under-17 World Cup will progress to the next level. Presently we have some players that participated in the Under-17 championship in Korea that are in the current Under-20 team. Such progression is what the NFF is working toward achieving, and we should be commended for embarking on the test exercise to ensuring that rightful players in the under-17 are featured in the category”, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme said. Remarkably, John Obuh, the newly appointed coach of the Golden Eaglets; the third to handle the team since it was assembled, is however confused over the MRI result that has thrown spanner into his works even though he inherited the alleged over age players from his predecessor – Henry Nwosu http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/08/22/nff-board-meets-over-eaglets-age-scandal/comment-page-1/#comment-37762 |
EFCC Freezes Accounts of Sacked Bank MDs •Auditors invited for interrogation •Akingbola’s residence under surveillance By Ayodele Aminu in Lagos and Yemi Akinsuyi in Abuja, 08.22.2009 The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has frozen the bank accounts of the managing directors of the five banks sacked last week. The affected former MDs are Union Bank’s Bartholomew Ebong, FinBank's Okey Nwosu, Afribank’s Sebastian Adigwe, Intercontinental Bank's Erastus Akingbola and Oceanic Bank's Cecilia Ibru. The external and internal auditors of the five banks have also been invited for interrogation by the EFCC. Also yesterday, the commission mounted surveillance on the home of Akingbola in Ikoyi, Lagos in a bid to gather information about his movement. According to a source at the EFCC office in Abuja, the accounts of the sacked MDs were frozen “so that they will not continue to have access to huge money while being investigated.” The five banks MDs are said to operate accounts in different banks in the country with unspecified but large amounts. Although, their foreign accounts were not affected by yesterday’s action, the EFCC source said that it was only a matter of time before their foreign accounts are frozen, wherever they might be. "With money in their accounts, you and I know quite well that they would do and undo. But without money anywhere, intense and proper investigations would be conducted on them. We hope to arrest the remaining two banks chiefs in no time.” http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=152310 |
