lawisong:Battle for supremacy tears Yoruba film industry apart Adunola Fasuyi, Lagos Saturday, August 15, 2009 The issues of seniority and age have eaten deep into the Yoruba film industry such that it is gradually tearing apart the sector as well as derailing progress that would have moved the movie industry to greater heights. advertisement Industry observers said that the issue could destroy the industry if not decisively addressed by leaders and elders in the industry. They claimed there were issues of age, experience and seniority that are tearing the industry apart as some actresses refuse to pick roles/scripts in some movies once their sworn enemies are part of the cast. Recently, top Yoruba actresses, Iyabo Ojo and Lizy Anjorin, were both seen at a public gathering exchanging abuses that almost turned into a street fight over the issue of seniority. According to reports, Iyabo claimed that she was older than Lizy and that Lizy should call her ‘Aunty’, which Lizy objected to outright, asking if Iyabo knew her age or when she was born. It was, however, revealed during the argument that Lizy was older than Iyabo, but Iyabo said she was her senior in the industry. However, they have both set straight the allegation on public fight between them, noting it was just a quarrel that has been settled amicably. The fact, however, remains that the bone of contention was the seniority issue. Mr. Dele Odule, National Vice President, Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, has given a stern warning to actresses in the industry over public embarrassment on trivial issues like age or seniority. Odule, who confirmed that the development is causing delay in progress, noted that respect is not forced, but earned through self respect, diligence and hardwork. He, therefore, called on the movie practitioners to see themselves as one and work together to bring development to the industry, as well as to the country at large. The issue of age and seniority had pitched several actresses like Dayo Amusa against Funmi Lawal, Bisi Ibidapo Obe against Iyabo Ojo and Sikira Sindodo, Bukky Wright against Lepa Shandy among others. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/15/625.html |

What i meant by that statement is this kidnapping thing has been going on for sometime and some notable people (ABC transports wife,Pokobros) have suffered from this nonsense.I just feel that publicity given to this story is a bit high but nevertheless it is an an extremely bad situation. However i do not think it will stop. |
is he the first person to be kidnapped ![]() |

ThiefOfHearts:I asked that question because Aloyemeka in another thread told me of the school he/she went to and the neighbourhood he/she grew up in owerri and only someone that grew up in owerri or was brought up in owerri can call those places the names he/she called them ie their nicknames. Can funmi speak igbo because i can dig up posts where Aloyemeka spoke fluent igbo. |
Off topic Why do people feel Aloyemeka is funmi?Did funmi(Aloyemeka) grow up in owerri? |
Which award did Tunde kelani win with his movies?. Is Tunde Kelani the same as Yoruba movie industry?. Hasn't he made movies in english which also makes him a nollywood member or are you asking me an igbo movie director whose movies made such feat?. Well, Uzo has such feats with his movies and they were shown more than TK. So, name any Yoruba movie with international accolades which Nollywood is yet to conquer?. Since your warped reasoning is not enough to understand that Nigerian movies suffer from the same issues whether they are igbo, Yoruba or hausa. Stories are recylcled so, saying that Hollywood rip off movies is nothing new in the art world. Others do that. On sunbtitles: Subtitle does not represent a story very well no matter how good you do it. Ikuku is an Nkem Owo movie which is very hilarious but not to a non igbo person because the subtitle does not deliver the story like it should be. I prefer to focus on the picture and not read subtitles. Watching a movie should be for fun and not a reading class but for those who can, let them do it. You haven't answered the thriving question still: Why are Nollywood movies more popular than Yoruba movies if language is not a barrier and their quality is lower than Yoruba movies?. What is the reason behind it? Igbo tribalism is stopping the sales of Yoruba movies, right?
Aloy are you in the movie biz? |
It's pretty popular in the north esp. with Niger ppl. countries in northern africa sha they're obsessed with it same way some west africans are obsessed with nollywood. lol it's like they live in their own separate world up there. lol i saw one of their flicks when i was younger. it was interesting actually.
If it this popular up there how come there is always this flexing of which is better btw nollywood(igbo dominated) and yoruwood Why is that nobody mentions kannywood is these comparisions ![]() |
Sjeezy we know say u dey carry block ![]() |
