2010: Obiogbolu tasks voters on aspirants Written by VINCENT UJUMADU Thursday, 09 April 2009
AWKA—AS the build-up to next year’s governorship election in Anambra state gathers momentum, Anambra people have been urged to scrutinize all the aspirants well, so as to be properly guided in their choice of the next Governor. Addressing the Anambra political class in Awka, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu said this was necessary to avoid the mistake of giving their mandate to person not fit to govern the state. “Only by voting the right candidate as Governor could the state hope to move forward from it’s present state of inertia”, Obiogbolu said, adding that the problem besetting the state currently was its being saddled with a Governor who was neither experienced nor on ground with reality and indifferent to the real needs and yearnings of the people.
Anambra state, he explained, “does not need a godfather by whatever name called, but a Governor who is accessible, honest, open, focused, humble, responsive, prudent in every sense, respectful, knowing that power is transient and who is guided in his actions by only what is best for the overall good of the people and the state.”

@Must_a_far, Nigeria there is no need to continue thinking that we need to be white to be racists in Nigeria. We happen to have the largest population of black racists in the world. Only that our form of discrimination goes beyond race, we discriminate against those of different ethnicity, complexions, creed etc. In fact, one can argue that the dilapidated state of affairs in the country is as a result of our racist/discriminatory demeanor. Is it now you are knowing? |

It seems you do not know the story behind that Mbakwe statement.Mbakwe said that if it is God's wish that Abacha should lead them let him do so or do you not know that Abacha was hounding him to support him because of his popularity in former imo state?

There was peace in Nigeria, until the coup plotters struck and destroyed the idyll. Their actions that night turned an uneasy distrust of the Igbos in Northern Nigeria into a deep seated paranoia and hatred, which spilled over into the later bloodletting. I have never tried to take away the blame from the frenzied mobs in the North. But the coup plotters MUST share some of the blame. Something turned the perception of the Igbos in the North from people to be vaguely disliked to people to be feared, hated and reviled. My friend do not come here to display your ignorance. If you are not sure of something do not make a comment.Peace in nigeria before the first coup?Go and read up the history of your country. |

PDP chieftain slams Gov Obi Written by VINCENT UJUMADU Wednesday, 08 April 2009
, As APGA denies alleged neglect of politicians
AWKA— A CHIEFTAIN of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu has bemoaned the fate of the political class in the state, since the coming into office of Governor Peter Obi, saying that most of them have been impoverished because the government of the day has sidelined them.
Addressing members of the political class drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state in Awka, Obiogbolu who is among those interested in next year’s governorship election, said the only way to make themselves relevant again, was by electing a Governor that understands that those who assisted in putting him into office merged in 2010.
“Our problem is that those we put in power neglected us once they got into office. They have been describing us as jobless people who should go and look for something to do. That is unfair. In the last eight years, nobody has been a councillor, a local government chairman, chairman and board members and yet the allocation for the local governments is received on a regular basis.
“This Governor will not lose anything if he appoints transition chairmen and supervisory councillors, but he preferred to use civil servants to run the local government areas since he came into office. For neglecting us so badly, there is need for a change before all of us starve to death when the resources of the state are there to take care of everybody.”
According to him, the problem was that Governor Obi was never a grassroots politician before he became a Governor, adding that most of the people he met on ground have been on political tutelage since the emergence of the present political dispensation.
Obiogbolu queried why the Governor should surround himself with professors and people from abroad, wondering where the professors were “when we were campaigning from village to village expecting to be rewarded at the end of the day”.
APGA denies alleged neglect of politicians by Obi
Also, the Anambra State chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Akunwata Mike Kwentoh has reacted to the allegation that Governor Peter Obi has not been fair to politicians in the state, saying the party was in total support of the Governor, if fairness meant allowing politicians to steal the money that belongs to the State for their selfish end.
He urged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu to consider fairness from the perspective of wisdom that includes taking care of the people of the state, which he said, was what Obi is doing.
He said he was aware that some past gubernatorial candidates wanted appointment from the Governor and might have felt offended when they did not succeed, adding that it was perhaps for that reason that some of them decided to fight the Governor.
He urged the PDP chieftain not to speak out of residual anger, like someone who was disappointed, but to concentrate on his ambition.

I agree people paid with there lives but you can't blame that on the truth being told. Your blame should go to the over ambitious Igbo officers hell bent on seizing power after independence. Blame should also go to Awolowo who reneged on the promise to remove the West from the federation. David Ejoor recounted what he saw and witnessed but unfortunately this does not fit in with your distorted views about events. Let it go bro. How is his view distorted? |

Shocker: ICPC Clears Lawmaker, Says Forgery is Petty Offence Monday, 06 April 2009 10:28 Citizen Reports E-mail | Print | PDF http://www.saharareporters.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2290:shocker-icpc-clears-lawmaker-says-forgery-is-petty-offence&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 For those who are familiar with the case of Ibrahim Yushau Kanya, the federal lawmaker representing Babura/Garki federal constituency and indeed all honest patriotic Nigerians, these are very sad times.
The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) which has been handling the case of certificate forgery involving the MP has finally hands off the case.
The commission has cleared Kanya of any criminal offence saying though the allegations of certificate forgery are correct, there is no need disturbing the lawmaker because the offence is not a very serious one.
Sources in the commission say the ICPC has warned “trouble makers” from Babura and Garki to stop disturbing themselves. “After all this gentleman (Kanya) only forged certificates. What is the big deal there? There are people stealing billions and getting away with it. Why are they making trouble because somebody just tried to improve himself, We are no longer worrying ourselves over the matter. Not even the President can resurrect he case”, the source told some elders from Garki who visited ICPC last week.
According to the source, the ICPC is interested is settling all cases amicably. In this case, the argument is that Kanya has almost finished his tenure. “Why should the ICPC spoil his opportunity simply because he was not the one that wrote his WAEC?”
The ICPC official then told the elders to stop disturbing themselves as the commission is not going to border the MP. He said there is so much pressure from the Presidency, the PDP and Jigawa state to give the MP a clean bill of health.
This declaration confirmed our earlier accusations that the ICPC is under pressure not to do anything about Kanya’s forgery case. It also confirms the fact that the lawmaker knew what he was doing when he rolled the drums into Babura to celebrate his freedom early this year.
Now, we have been cheated in our constituency and ICPC is rubbing the cheating into our face. Corruption and dishonesty at their worst is being visited upon us with impunity. If you visit the National Assembly website today, you will see that Ibrahim Kanya’s qualification is Diploma in Public Admin. He used another person’s WAEC results to obtain the diploma. He is a dishonorable man in the assembly and the ICPC says it does not matter

It depend on what you mean by education. Most nigerians see education as just going to the university alone which is wrong. Infact informal education is the best form of education.Once you passed through nursery, primary and secondary school and you feel like you already have what you want to acheive then i don't think it's necessary to go to the university, cos it will be a waste of time and resources Correct yarns! |
