dude, sometimes i wonder at the way we nigerians reason at times, irrespective of the fact that he worked for it or not, his father being a former senator and governor who served this country honestly and consientiously for many years deserves much more than his children and wives are getting now. why are you pouring vitriol on the man, would you rather hail ibori and ibb's progenitors instead?
in case you r not getting it,the point here is that the man was honest enough not to steal the state blind and to accept ghana must go s and the result is his children living in abject poverty, that should be the issue any objective individual will and should be concerned about and not how many wives or children he left behind, sucessive governors after him who stole the state blind and sucessive senators dont need to go on newspapers asking for help because they have stolen enough to last them, their multiple wives and children,so whats yur point Are you justifying his whining? Maybe you are one that should be asked his point. |

Has anybody in government taken a critical look at the criteria for invitation to G20? Few personal wealth from corruption doesn't translate into national prosperity.

But for a nation to call itself a proper regional power no one group should hold the country to ransome just look what is happening in Niger delta. Nigeria is even losing serious money because of the activities of those 419's in the niger delta calling themselves militant. The money it has been raking in since where has it gone? Nigeria drifting, PDP senators tell Yar'Adua http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/32712/41/ Written by Emmanuel Aziken Friday, 03 April 2009
ABUJA — THE 87-man Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate caucus, yesterday, dispatched the President of the Senate, Chief David Mark, on a mission to inform President Umaru Yar'Adua that the nation is adrift on account of poor leadership.
Vanguard learnt that an early morning meeting of the caucus called to articulate the interests of Senators during the upcoming PDP congresses, turned into bitter recriminations of the alleged failures of the Yar‘Adua administration and its possible effect on the PDP as a party. Besides complaining of the failures of the administration, the Senators during the closed-door meeting also expressed dissatisfaction with the President's style.
From embracing Senators with open arms, the lawmakers complained that the President has ceased routine communications with them, something some old Senators said was taken for granted during the Obasanjo administration.
Even routine meetings with the Senate leadership, which Vanguard learnt at one time saw the President interacting with principal officers of the Senate at the Senate President’s residence has ceased.
The PDP caucus meeting was originally called to address how PDP Senators could be given advantage ahead of the coming PDP congresses and address the domineering roles of state governors in the state chapters of the party.
The caucus meeting, according to Vanguard sources, however, turned into a bitter session against the President as Senators rose one after another to complain about the poor performance of the administration.
President Umaru Yar'AduaVanguard further learnt that the senators complained that the performance of the administration is turning into a political nightmare for them as they complained that their electoral fortunes were being eroded at home.
“It was an opportunity to tell ourselves the home truth; we are not performing and our fear is that the performance of the government is harming our political fortunes,’’ one Senator said yesterday after the meeting.
“Look at the power sector. For almost two years, we have been talking about emergency and we cannot see any emergency action by the government to solve the problems of the power sector,” one Senator told Vanguard after the meeting.
“You see, I cannot openly come out to tell you that the administration is achieving because saying so will not be the truth but because of my position, I cannot also say come out and say the truth which all of us know,’’ a notable PDP Senator said yesterday on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to disclose the proceedings of the closed door meeting.
Another Senator present at the meeting said the meeting was originally called to address how Senators could be positioned to address the excesses of state governors who, some Senators complained, were turning into “tin gods” in the states.
“But you know, these things cannot be hidden and Senators had to complain about them and Mark was sent to convey the message to the President,’’ the Senator said on the basis of confidentiality.
Vanguard could not confirm how and when Senator Mark is going to dispatch the message to President Yar‘Adua. |

What is causing all these religious bigots to start flexing their muscle and raising there heads is because they realise the Federal Govt is weak. How can the Nigerian govt be fighting a bunch of rascals for almost 5 years in Niger delta. That is a sign of weekness. The Nigerian govt should draw a line on these niger delta guys activities and in today's paper I noticed Yardua's is ready to tackle the problem head on by giving some who are prepared to down tools amenesty or face the full wrath of the military. He is planning to increase military presences in the months to come we wait to see if this will be successful. Rerun: Yar’Adua, Jonathan arrive in Ekiti for electioneering By Olayinka Oyebode and Akin Oyedele Published: Friday, 3 Apr 2009 The Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, will arrive in Ekiti State, on Friday, to lead the campaign train of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Segun Oni, to Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Skip to next paragraph File L-R: Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adu
A statement by the state PDP Director of Communication and Strategy, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, on Thursday, said that President Umaru Yar’Adua, will also arrive on Saturday for the two-day campaign.
He said that Senate President, Mr. David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, will lead members of the National Assembly from the South-West on the train.
The PDP spokesman urged the people of the state to come out en masse to welcome the visitors.
A former Military Governor of the Old Western State, Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd), had on Tuesday advised Yar’Adua and Jonathan against coming to Ekiti to campaign for Oni.
The Ekiti AC, however, said it was not moved by the involvement of the President and vice-president in the electioneering, insisting that they were coming to market a “bad product.”
An electronic mail by the Director of Communication of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu, said that some of the PDP stalwarts being expected in the state were not known to have won any political contest in their own constituencies.
Adaramodu alleged that part of the decoy lined up by the PDP for the campaign was to arrange with some of their members who would impersonate defectors from the AC when the train berthed at Igede-Ekiti to portray the AC as popular.
“We advise our party members not to move near wherever they want to use for their dance of shame in the name of campaigning for Segun Oni, so that they don’t have any excuse to implicate them.”
Also, a former governor of the state, Chief Niyi Adebayo, has attributed the alleged desperation of the leaders of the PDP to the realisation that they had lost ground.
Speaking in an interview with journalists at his Iyin-Ekiti country home on Thursday, Adebayo also said that he was not afraid of alleged plan to arrest him on the eve of the election.
The AC chieftain said that the violence that had attended the campaign rallies of the two leading candidates was disturbing.
He said PDP had been identified as the perpetrators of violence, as a dress rehearsal for the party’s alleged plans to rig the election.
Meanwhile, former Ekiti State governor, Mr, Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday, alleged plot by the PDP and its candidate in the rerun governorship election, Mr. Segun Oni, to assassinate him, over his refusal to support the party in the election scheduled to hold on April 25.
Fayose told journalists at a news conference in Lagos that he had been informed of the plot to kill him, adding that he would want the police to investigate the matter.
He urged the police not to treat the allegation with levity, because doing so might bring about greater consequence in the rerun election.
He also urged President Umaru Yar’Adua to wade into the Ekiti matter with a view to averting violence.
Oni, in a swift reaction, however, described the former governor as a frustrated person.
The Chairman, media and publicity committee of the Oni Campaign outfit, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said Fayose was being haunted by his past.
Fayose said he had no basis to raise any false alarm over plot to kill him, adding that the plot was hatched at a meeting held somewhere in Ekiti State, which one of his admirers was privy to.
He added that a particular political thug in Osogbo, Osun State had been contacted to terminate his life.
Fayose alleged that the plan to eliminate him was hatched because of his popularity in the state, which was seen as a possible impediment to the PDP’s plan to rig the election.
The former governor, who spotted a yellow T-Shirt labelled “Fayose for Fayemi”, said his resolve to support Fayemi was because of the love he had for Ekiti people.
Fayose said, “I have no basis to make false alarm. I only step aside from the PDP, the people of Ekiti want a person of integrity to run the affairs of the state, and I still have interest in who becomes the governor of the state.
“I am not working against PDP; but I am working for Fayemi, I am not a member of AC, and I will never be a member. Oni has said I have no electoral value but time will tell.”
Meanwhile, Adeyeye in a statement made available to our correspondent, described Fayose as a frustrated person who needed urgent medical attention.
He described the allegation as by the former governor, as “hallucination of a depressed mind.”
He said, “Fayose, who had already applied to the court for leave to travel abroad for medical attention cannot but be suffering from hallucination, having been associated with all sorts of criminalities for which he is already standing trial.
“Who can be after Fayose other than the spirits of those that were murdered, harassed and intimidated during his three and half years of ignoble rule in Ekiti?” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200904031303254 |

AP shares scandal: Otedola sues Dangote for N117bn By Ayo Olesin Published: Friday, 3 Apr 2009 Shareholders of African Petroleum Plc have filed a petition against the Vice-President of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Nova Finance and Securities Limited before the Securities and Exchange Commission for losses incurred as a result of the manipulation of the company’s shares.
Skip to next paragraph Photo file Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote
In a complaint filed before the SEC’s Administrative Proceedings Committee, dated March 31, 2009, the shareholders - AP chairman, Mr. Femi Otedola, Zenon Petroleum Oil and Gas Limited, and Luzon Oil and Gas Limited – are seeking the payment of N117.18bn being losses incurred as a result of the manipulation of the share price between August 21 2008 and March 26, 2009.
They have also filed a petition with the Director General of the Nigeria Stock Exchange demanding that Dangote step aside and temporarily relinquish his position as 1st Vice President of the NSE to pave way for an unbiased investigation into the allegation and restore confidence in the market.
The petitioners insisted that Dangote’s retention of his seat at the NSE council was likely to undermine investigations in the case and there was a probability that he would be “in a position to influence the outcome” of the complaint/petition before SEC.
According to the petition, filed by Mr. Ubong-Abasi Iyang of Day Spring Law Office, Otedola is seeking a declaration that the respondents transactions carried out within the said period with regards to AP shares was such that created or caused to create a false impression of trading activity on AP shares and did not involve a change in beneficial ownership of such shares.
The petitioners are also seeking a declaration that the respondents’ dealings by way of purchase and selling of AP shares during the period in question “amounted to fictitious transactions, and/or devices which caused a depression and/or caused fluctuations in the market price.”
They are also seeking a declaration that the respondents act was done with the intention to induce other persons to sell their shares and cause a depression and loss in value of AP shares.
They are asking the SEC Tribubal to declare that the respondents actions indeed directly resulted in the loss of the value of each unit of AP shares from N293 as at August 21,2008 to “a miserable value” of N66.50 as at March 26, 2009.
The shareholders are therefore seeking a declaration, pursuant to relevant provisions of the law, that they are entitled to the payment of N117.18bn, which was the loss in value occasioned by the direct act of false trading perpetuated by the respondents.
The petitioners jointly control 490, 328,527 units of shares out of AP’s total 788,787, 838 shares outstanding.
Nova Securities, controlled by Mr. Eugene Anenih, had previously been fined N500,000 for contravening trading rules in respect to the AP transactions http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200904033291385 |
