My take on this issue is this;
1)The enviroment you grew up in affects you and there is a likelyhood to you will be much more fluent with the language of the area you where brought up in.Some of these artist where born and brought is some parts of lagos where conc. yoruba is the order of the day.Eg African china,Rugged man.Dj zeez was actually raised in Abeokuta if i am not mistaken. How many of us actually remeber that Sunny Okosun is actually Esan but most of his songs where done in igbo because he was born and brought up in enugu. Of course there are exceptions eg Nnena
2)Some of these artiste are they fluent with the igbo lingo?I imagine Dj zeez singing in igbo.I bet u it will sound terrible to the ear.
3) The lagos factor. The fact that yoruba is the most popular lingo in lagos and if you want to go commercial you have to conquer lagos |

And i reiterate you are a goat for disputing it ain't a standard practice in the East. It's cultural. . . . .I admit it's not as widespread as it was decades of years ago but some people still see it as a way of appeasing their gods. Therefore, it's a standard practise. You have now proven that you are a confirmed ram. |

Sauron the village you are thinking of is ngwa but you are a complete ram for saying this. Before you go any further, there are cannibals in Abia State. I have forgotten the name of that village now but i would dig it out later. They ate a dozen corp members few years ago and a movie was made from the story. Don't be ignorant. . . . . . .Cannibalism is a standard practise in the EAST. |

Politics › Ports Congestion: 117 Firms Suspend Operations, 6,500 Workers Sent Home! by asha80(op): 11:44am On Mar 02, 2009 |
Ports congestion: 117 firms suspend operations, 6,500 workers sent home http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200903022115343 By Layi Adeloye and Sulaiman Adenekan Published: Monday, 2 Mar 2009 Layi Adeloye and Sulaiman Adenekan
At least 117 manufacturing firms have suspended or scaled down their operations due to their inability to clear their imported raw materials at the Lagos ports.
Although sources at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria said the affected firms were operating in all the sectors of the economy, the Paint Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, a major group under MAN, said the affected firms were paint and plastic producers.
As at Friday, about 6,500 workers, representing about 25 per cent of the total workforce of the two sectors, had been sent on compulsory leave as a result of the lack of raw materials.
The disclosures, contained in the latest edition of the Manufacturers Bulletin, made available to our correspondent in Lagos on Friday, noted that the operational dislocation, caused by the lack of raw materials, hit the two sectors mostly because their raw materials were mainly chemicals.
According to the bulletin, the affected firms are located within the Ikeja and Apapa industrial axes of Lagos.
The PMAN warned that “if nothing urgent is done, the congestion in the ports may kill the remaining operating firms, which were on the throes of death, even before the outset global economic meltdown.”
Confirming the trend, a Council member of MAN and Managing Director, D N Meyer Plc, Mr. Bola Olayinka, said the situation demanded urgent action by the Federal Government.
Olayinka said, “At present, the figures of casualties could be more grave than can be imagined among manufacturing firms. For instance, D N Meyer has had to prune its workforce by as much as 25 per cent due to lack of raw materials to produce.
“We have orders and contract supplies waiting to be delivered, but when the containers of resin (that) we need to produce are tied down at Lagos ports, what can we do? The situation is definitely grave.”
He said billions of naira was being lost to the congestion in the ports weekly.
Olayinka said, “ I know of a company that imported 45 containers of resin. What happened? By last week, the product had dried up at the port, where it was awaiting clearance.
“You know resin is a kind of volatile chemical that dries up quickly with time. For that alone, we are talking about losses involving billions of naira. How would the company cope? All chemical-based companies, including plastic, textiles and paint manufacturing firms are being similarly affected.”
The Nigerian Ports Authority had, in a circular to shipping companies and other stakeholders, announced that between February 20 and March 2009, all container-carrying vessels would be denied entry into any of the Lagos ports.
The measure, according to a circular dated February 20,2009, was meant to ease the congestion at the ports.
But MAN, in a statement by its President, Alhaji Bashir Borodo, derided the move, saying ship diversion was no solution as it “can grind the economy to a halt.”
The statement, which was made available to our correspondent on Saturday, described the measure as “an attempt to scratch the problem on the surface”.
It said the problems of manufacturing companies, 80 per cent of which are located in Lagos, would be compounded as most of them would not be able to access their raw materials.
He said since the congestion had already started having effect on firms, a further delay in tackling the problem would result in a total collapse of the remaining manufacturers.
In the last six months, ships have had to wait for months to berth at Lagos as a result of the congestion.
High cost of port charges and the domination of the freight industry by multinationals, which constitute 97 per cent of industry operators, are said to be the major cause of the port congestion.
The problems have also been heightened by unapproved and illegal charges; inadequate trucks for the immediate evacuation of allocated cargoes; and delays associated with confirmation of payments.
Others include non-receipt of empty containers by shipping companies, which often result in scarcity and high cost of hiring trucks; demurrage charge on stemmed containers not yet transferred to bonded terminals; illegal local shipping charges; deduction from containers deposit; and delays in building/invoicing system of shipping companies.
The President, National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, Mr. Lucky Amiwero, said that there should have been a sharp reduction in port charges following port concessioning.
He lamented that the charges had, however, increased to the detriment of operators and the Nigerian economy. More unemployment |

Obj was a product of Igbo's internal division. That 1999 election was the best time for Igbos to rule the country. But they went to back a man whose tribe has rejected against their own son Ekweme! And now they are complaining when that man dumped them and handed over power to the North. My guess is that had Alex Ekwueme been supported, and won the election, Yorubas would have been compensated with this Yar'adua govt as a result of MKO tragedy and the North will still be out of power! While the South South will have found a credible reason to agitate for the next presidency to complete the power rotation before it return to the North. Need I say that Igbo's disunity is costly to the whole country? This sounds like saying that igbos are the problem with nigeria. Kobojukie tribalistic Tribalistc is probably the last word i can think of to qualify kobojunkie. |
