Actually the statement is not nonsensical in the slightest.
But substantive in understanding the dynamics of national team allegiance and the impact on football club career progression.

National team allegiance impacts very heavily particularly at the early stages of your career on your market value and your contract opportunities.

For example Ryan Ssegnon is a LB for Fulham fc he started playing for the first team at age 16 in 2016. I spoke to the HOD recruitment at the time, this was October 2016 and Fulham were playing Blackburn. They had placed a value of £25 million in Ryan , I thought he was crazy at the time.

That value was impacted very positively because he was an England youth international. Furthermore all the top clubs in the EPL are looking for top English talent. Primarily because the top tramse in the EPL struggle to have 3/4 Engliish players as regulars in thier teams.

This further increases value. As a future England international the potential for marketing is simply massive. But one that's earmarked already for greatness. Immediately Nike and Adidas want to give you tens of millions to market thier boots. Ryan Ssegnon will DEFINITELY play for England soon and very soon.

Last summer Liverpool put in a bid for Ryan Ssegnon of £30 million. Fulham refused they want more and they will get more. It seems ludicrous but the most expensive left back in England plays for Fulham in the Championship and he is a teenager.

Now considering all these stupendously huge sums of money being banded about. Then change the dimensions let him say he pledges allegiance to Jamaica. Would you call that wisdomhuh

All those £££millions well the larger part of them will turn to smoke and dissappear into thin air.

So when Dominic Iorfa says wait till I'm 23 he is trying to use his England youth international value to leverage his career before he pledges allegiance to Nigeria. He did that with a loan move to Ipswich in the summer and then made his commitment.
having read all you wrote here then why do they often waffle about which country to play for?it should be straighforward to choose then one that seems to give more opportunity of making those pounds isnt it?

Opportunities draft into club level cause being an English international gives you better chances rather than an INFERIOR country. Alex Ferguson, for instance, refused to sign African players. It's a no-brainer to me, it's not even arguable.
dwight yorke?ferguson had his preferences no doubt as a human same way wenger no care about your nationality as far as you can deliver..mourinho you could argue leans more towards black players(european of african no difference)..if you are good you are good simple

Greener pastures comes in the case of national football when a specific country gives you better opportunies. I find it hard to conceive that someone who migrated to the UK at age 6, will opt to play for Nigeria over England without a third party intervention.

I'm not against my country, but I put myself in the position of these young men and realize I would make a decision not far from theirs. It still boils down to the fact that the devil you know, who might never give you a chance is better than an unknown angel, with open arms
.
if that is the case then they should choose those countries upfront and not waffle about it and live with it..it is that simple.

you might also need to define opportunities here because just because you have committed for England is no guarantee they will take you to an euro or a world cup let alone winning it

That is why we must stand firmly against what this current u20 coach is doing. If we take over aged players as our u20, a time will come when we'll need them to step into the SE, at that point, they'll be very old and won't be able to carry the burden of our national team. That is what we faced when players like kanu and okocha retired.

If we do not fix this, they'll be a huge gap in the future.
my stomach turned when i saw those pics of those guys and the expose tbaba did on of them

Give me your honest opinion on this. You were born in Kenya, you came to Nigeria to ply football in the NPFL. After attaining great heights Nigeria doesn't call you up, but Kenya comes, what will you do? For there is a difference between patriotism and greener pastures.
greener pasture relates more with club football(you live enyimba to play for ajax because of bigger pay) and not really national team football(it comes from the heart eg giggs opted for wales rather than a bigger england)

You won't see me castigating these young boys. Matter of fact, I have always maintained that we'll be the 2nd option for most of these foreign lads, especially as most of them have close ties to those foreign countries than with Nigeria, that is very much understandable.

What I'm against, however, is komekn and others making it sound like we never made any attempt at iorfa and that he is being exempted from the national team due to corruption and other malpractice.

I'm all for actions and consequences. when you make a decision in life, be man enough to face the consequences of your actions, do not blame others.
Iorfa wasn't straight with us, tammy embarrassed us. These actions have consequences and they should face them. Even in Education, not all universities accept 2nd choice candidates.
the issue is this there is a serious crises in the way we run football at home that is why it is like we go cap in hand to beg FB to play for us(especially those who do not have affinity for nigeria except their surname)..i do not see brazillians crying about thiago alcantara(whose father was a bonafide ex brazillian international) opting to play for spain for he grew up there.

I don't see why we keep castigating these young men. Put yourself in their shoes, would you put Harvard University over UNILAG, we should be very satisfied at being 2nd choices. Everyone wants to thrive at the highest level.
TheLoneCitizen:
What club level, mate? I never mentioned club football.
thriving at the highest level has nothing to do with the national team you play with so the issue of using unilag and Harvard in that analogy does not arise...also 'being very satisfied at being 2nd choices' is a funny statement that arises from inferiority complex

I am not saying the greenery isn't good. But we need a daring economic push. Something that will make us have a working economy.

Moreover, Kano economic city have started their construction in February. It is not a scam. I was there earlier this month. It's a gigantic project, don't say that please.
only February? do you know how many govts since 2003 in the state that has been signing mous on that project?like I said ask those in the know..

I think Iorfa senior didn't do well as ex international by saying my son will wait until 23 years of age to decide his future.

Truly he did not say the boy will not play for Nigeria.

Unlike Torunarigha Jordon's father who said categorically that my son will not play for Nigeria.

Iorfa junior did not say I will not play for Nigeria

But Torunarigha has come out to say i preferred German team..
torunarigha must have had some bad experiences during his playing time for eagles and Nigeria as a whole to state categorically that his son will not play for Nigeria

Afam4eva is a very smart person. Seriously, this is one guy that is speaking a very great amount of sense here.

We have government that only pays salary and repair roads. Nothing daring or smart coming from them. Nothing to look uo to. Lagos is building eko Atlantic, Kano is building Kano economic city, etc. The east is just known to complete the Nigeria state to be 36. We don't offer anything and we are not known for anything.

Who greenery help? Who fine house help? We should tell ourselves the truth. We should choose projects that will make further investments enter the region. We should design our economic template to have meaning.

Seriously, nobody in the east has gotten anything right. Just playing ball in circles.
kano economic city is a scam..ask those in the know..

please never underestimate the importance of greenery in an environment..ask those living in some concrete jungle parts of cities in this country

Abeg guys enough of the back and forth, it is already degenerating to tribal accusations.

The truth is there is no more friendlies after the Serbia game before the world cup lists comes out, so Rohr already has his pool of eligible players he is going to pick from, there will be no new invites, if there is no outstanding player in tuesdays game and baring no major injury, Rohr already has his 23 players already.

So let's discuss about the players in the pool, after the world cup we can continue the debate about Aluko, Nwakali and co.

Any news about the boys & training on going in England ?
he said he was going to invite 30 for camp after seasons end just before world cup if I am not mistaken

Substantiate your position not just with emotive preference.

The same league our Core midfielder is praying to come too. Onazi would have been in Birmingham if not for work permit issues. He was ready to dump the supposed top quality of the Turkish league for the competitive grit and physicality of the championship.

The same league that Omeruo couldn't hack it and left for an easier ride in Turkey.

I would concede that the Turkish league is more technical (pretty football) on average but I would say the Championship is more competitive, physical and definitely faster than the Turkish league.

That's why when you want an easy life when you get to the latter stages of your career you shift to Turkey also great tax regime. Hopefully you willl get paid notorious for owing players wages.
sometimes the most physical might not necessarily be the best..could a riquelme play on the premiership? I seriously doubt

The possibility still exists of an all England final in Champions League albeit highly unlikely so don't count your eggs before they hatch.

I said the core top quality players in the SE have come from the EPL. Those players are the backbone of the SE. It's not a boast it's just a simple fact.

Unless you wish to blinded by prejudice when did I say all players must come from England that's just cheap misdirection and misrepresentation.

Well educate me tell me stats underpin that with a good quality league and stand out player in that league.

Eventually good players will elevate themselves to top leagues and quality teams, all things being equal.

I Haven't asked for any player to be replaced, just a level playing field for all players to be tested.

The players I think should be considered are mostly already capped for Nigeria but for reasons unknown have been excluded.

Aluko, Ambrose and Obagoal are these the borough players you are talking about huh huh huh

I usually do not respond to your comments when they lack substance but I'll make an exception today
possibility of an all English ucl final is non existent though as the remaining two English clubs have drawn against the other in the quarter final

You still don't get me. I meet that this guy's were cautious during friendlies and they took that mentality that the teams they face in friendlies were no match for them at tournaments. But they got shockers at that Atlanta. Because they felt they would give their best when the time comes. You don't do that in football again. Give your best now.

No one gave us a chance at Atlanta cos of the calibre of our opponents. They even looked down on us no doubt. Esp that stupid office trap the Argies tried to set, but backfired to.

These players are been cautious now cos they feel they would give their all during the World Cup. But they might get shocked.

Major caution reason is just injury.
