Politics › Re: Fashola Settles EEDC And Geometric Power Dispute Over Supply To Aba by asha80(m): 10:10am On Apr 01, 2016 |
kettykin: The previous Story was an April Fool the real story is below okMeanwhile, after years of prolonged controversies from its failure to respect and enforce the terms in the ‘ring-fencing’ agreement it reached in 2005 with Geometrics Aba Power Plant for distribution of electricity generated from the plant to Aba and Ariaria metropolis in Abia State, the federal government has finally retraced its steps.
Government is now negotiating a settlement between parties in the dispute, Geometrics Aba Power and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (Disco).
Fashola, said yesterday in Abuja when both parties in the dispute put pen to papers to formalise the agreements they reached after their reported six months long out-of-court negotiation, that commonsense had finally prevailed against the long periods of contest for rights.
In 2005, the government reportedly concessioned Aba and Araiaria as the only security for Geometric to invest in the independent power project instead of the normal sovereign guarantee.
The same government however abandoned the concession agreement when in 2013 it unbundled from defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Enugu Disco and sold it including the concessioned units to Interstates Electrics, this subsequently sparked up the dispute.
Fashola explained at the meeting that the new development was momentous for Nigeria’s power sector. He described the decision of both parties to settle the dispute which was foisted on them by government’s decision as a win-win for the people of Aba and Nigeria.
According to him, the negotiation was first brokered by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who then handed it over to the ministry of power to continue with.
He said apart from parties in the dispute, several individuals including former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Louis Edozien played key roles in the negotiation and final outcome
Fashola stated that with the formalisation of the negotiated agreement, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) would now be asked to amend the licences of both Geometrics and Enugu Disco to reflect the agreements that were reached. THISDAY however learnt that parts of what was reached by both parties included Geometrics getting back the ring-fenced units, as well as Enugu Disco buying the excess power that would be generated by the gas-fired plant.
Former Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji and founder and former chairman of Diamond Bank, Mr. Pascal Dozie, led the team that signed the agreement on behalf of Geometrics, while former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, led that of Enugu Disco.
Fashola however said: “Commonsense will make more meaning to the people of Aba, it will make more meaning to the traders in Ariaria, it will make more meaning to our goal to produce more made in Nigeria goods because I know what is possible in that place. I used to shop there, I used to do business there and I know they make suites, they make good shoes and so they need power. That is commonsense and that is what you have achieved today.”
He further noted that: “Commonsense is also the realisation now that the electricity market is just beginning and many things will happen because there are many things that can happen that we have not even began. What has happened today is to show that within one Disco, there can be two players and that is a ground breaking event today. There are many more blessing and more hopefully.”
According to him: “With this now, investments of over $500 million can come in there (Aba and Ariaria) and feel safe, they can expect to see power delivered within a few months down the line. More importantly, you will see peace more than victory and I think this is the way to go.”
“I think these are some of the silver linings that we can see from our energy crisis. The power coming from Aba is defining because we do not have enough now,” he added.
In his remarks, Kayode said: “We thank you for your personal and official interest in resolving this intractable dispute between Interstate Electrics, owners of the Enugu Disco and Geometrics over Aba and Ariaria.
“I want to make it very clear that it has always been the intention on our side in EEDC to resolve this matter. It is just that we went to court but then we thought that it would make common sense to sit together with the support of government to resolve all issues between us.”
He further explained: “We have also laid the foundation for future partnerships because as soon as power begins to come out of the plant, we will take it for our own part of Enugu Disco and other parts of Nigeria.
“With the agreement we have signed, we are now positioned properly to deliver more power to the people of the east and the added advantage is that it has given the EEDC a charge to put on its thinking cap and expand its business opportunities in the east.”
Nnaji on his part noted that the parties eventually realised that it was better to sit and negotiate a resolution to the controversy than continuing with the court sessions. He added that the vice president had in his first meeting with them stated that he wanted the parties to adopt a different approach to resolving the issue.
“Today to us is historic in the sense that a sector that is supposed to be largely private sector driven has seen its major crisis resolved and it is wonderful that it is being resolved by the effort of the minister and this administration, and we thank you very much for the effort you have put to see this happen,” he said.
According to him: “Everybody had recognised that it was a mistake. We all went fighting in the court but sometimes even when you win in courts, you still have to find peace and that is what we have done here, we have achieved peace and we have achieved progress.” it is still basically the same story..read the third paragraph well...it has been resolved and both parties signing the final agreement |

Abagworo: The plan is 8 lane within the urbanised area. It seems Uguru is behind the sudden resumption of work on the road after he discovered the fraud therein.
http://www.thereflector.com.ng/component/k2/2617-shocker-jonathan-approves-n500m-per-km-on-owerri-port-harcourt-express-road
The minister of Niger Delta, Pastor Useni Uguru Useni yesterday became furious with the contractor handling Owerri/Portharcourt road, ARAB CONTRACTOR, on discovering that the road was contracted between the contractor and Jonathan's administration with the total sum of 500 million naira per kilometre. The minister who could not hide his feelings over the outrageous amount on the contract, lashed out on the immediate past administration over what he described as a total reap-off on the country.
Inspecting the road project yesterday, accompanied with his junior colleague minister, pastor Uguru told the contractor to expedite action over the project without further delay. Those who were with them for the road inspection were the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, government house Owerri, Engr. Kingsley Chima Uju, some directors in the ministry of Niger Delta affairs, among others. I have seen in different fora where it is said to build a standard one km rd in Nigeria is 250m naira...now if we realise this is a dual way then 500m per km might not be over the top..however the contractor doing the work according to specification becomes another issue I dont also see anywhere in that write up that it is specified that it would be 8 lanes in urban area...even if that is true a lot of demolitions have to be made |

Abagworo: I anticipated this claim even when y'all heaped every blame on that road to Rochas Okorocha. I wrote then that it was abandoned because of Okorocha's political stand and that if power changes hands work would resume on that road. Today I am happy being vindicated. I guess if Buhari constructs 2nd Niger bridge you will equally attribute it to the ineffectual buffoon. Ride on sir.
Finally Umuapu internal village roads as shown below were constructed by Rochas Okorocha led Imo Government. Work started there late 2015 and it was completed last month. It is now used as alternative route to avoid the bad part of Port Harcourt/Owerri expressway. is arab contractors fully back on that owerri ph road? Hope they know that rd ought to be dualized all the way to assumpta cathedral junction |

Politics › Re: "Stella Oduah's Fraud At Enugu Airport" by asha80(m): 1:50pm On Mar 26, 2016 |
aresa: Lagos Ibadan was and is still tangled up with litigation, court cases and contractual fights so it's never been the ideal project to take on.
Lagos Ibadan road is also a National road used by hundreds of thousands of Nigerians daily and not just the folks in the SW so I don't see the SW funding that road and they turn around to charge the rest of Nigeria for using that road. but on the other hand, 2nd NB is used predominantly by the folks in SE. what you wrote here is no excuse for that gaffe that you did..mind you second niger bridge connects delta (ss) and anambra (se) so if there should be a combined effort to build an fg project( unless you point to me where a rd or bridge that connect two states is no longer and fg project) why leave out delta state and focus on on se states only? Why would abia be more concerned that delta for instance? Also that line the se people will use 2nd bridge predominantly is largely myopic.why? The bridge has not being built yet.the non eastern workers from SW working in oil and other related firms in ph axis, ohaji and oguta axis etc will make use of it when built..if there is an economic boom in the aks axis or se the workforce that might want to partake in that boom from the west will use the bridge..mind you buses that go from Lagos to Benue and even taraba make use of Onitsha axis because it is shorter..so enough of the narrow mindedness of the 2nd niger bridge. If I am to use your same premise why dont sw states come together to repair ogbomosho Oyo highway? Or is that a 'national' rd now since its users are mainly sw people? |
Politics › Re: "Stella Oduah's Fraud At Enugu Airport" by asha80(m): 1:33pm On Mar 26, 2016 |
aresa: You don't have any international airport, it's international only by mouth and on paper, but in reality, it's not.
The woman missed a great opportunity to deliver one of the best airport in Nigeria, but did not because of the same National corruption disease and incompetence.
We've seen horrible pictures that basically confirmed the lousy state of things at this airport especially when it rains, we saw people walking in flood water in the rain to and from the plan as stated in this report.
Obviously, this report has nothing to do with tribalism and it shouldn't be. Stating the poor state of things in your backyard should be a source of concern when it comes to our safety and the safety of the people you love.
You have major airlines refusing to fly to enugu because of the lousy job the woman did and you are sitting here shouting tribalism and blaming other people instead of the person responsible for the mess that's threatening your safety and economic security.
Tribalism is very dangerous because it not only denies you your rightful entitlement, but also endangers you and your people and instead of seeking accountability, you blame other people and shielded and protect the culprit because of tribalism.
Other people are not responsible for the lack of 2nd NB, your tribal games, affiliations and uncaring and incompetent leaders. This bridge should have been built collectively by your own states a long time a ago, but because of their incompetence and uncaring behavior, they point fingers at every turn and make sure to tell you that other tribes are responsible for what's essentially their responsibility.
You should be happy if in fact the project was suspended or totally scraped as it stands contractually today because it was designed to swindle and scam you for 30 years.
To start with and as it stands, the FG is not building or funding that bridge, JB is building and funding the over inflated bridge because GEJ sold the deal to JB to build and fund and in return, you pay tolls to JB for 30 years.
Have you ever asked yourself why you should pay tolls to JB for 30 years just to use that bridge while people in other parts of the country are using FG bridges and infrastructures for free?
Have you ever asked yourself why GEJ didn't just get direct FG funding for the bridge instead of selling it to JB to toll you and make you and your people pay for that bridge out of your own pocket?
Why must you pay for that bridge fir 30 years and at the end of that 30 years, it's still not going to be yours locally, it's going to be the property of the FG of Nigeria, meaning it belongs to the whole country when in fact, the folks in SE paid for it out of their own pocket.
Why not just build your own bridge with your own money, toll your own bridge and use the money to fund other projects in your communities.
Lagos state built and tolled the Lekki bridge and whatever they make off the bridge funds other projects, but as it stands, you are helping the FG pay for a bridge that's never going to be yours while other people in Nigeria enjoy FG roads and bridges free of charge.
Fact is, you let tribalism mess you up, you let other people take advantage of you because you are always preoccupied with tribalism, you distract yourself with tribalism, you box yourself in a corner with tribalism and so on.
You are your own enemy and not other tribes. You basically rip what you sow either with your mentality, outlook, your association or the kind of people you call leaders and ultimately you yourself and your shallow and tribal thinking..
You didn't even address the deficiencies stated in the report to start with....well, that's a different story.. nice write up spoilt by the suggestion that se states should have come together to build 2nd niger bridge when Lagos,Oyo and ogun refuse to come together to repair the Lagos Ibadan expressway |
