A login page would need some kind of data storage (flat file or SQL db). If you used php, check your database username and password (that is if u have created it online). Sometime the host name is not always localhost (have had similar experience). Go to phpmyadmin in ur cpanel and see the host name. Then create the database username and password. Make changes and you will be fine. To make us work better on debugging try pasting the error code next time.

I have been trying to take that spot for some time now but i gave up, i would rather be like craiglist (the most annoying looking and most simple site, no sense of style or aesthetics but they are smiling to the bank). Right now am try to be the next big thing after facebook abi na tweeter.

Now back to my number one Guy, thank God say NL webmasters have left the beef on the meat shelf, i go like bring my guns and start shooting u down but to what avail, all of us wan chop. So take ur spot as number one but u still no reach. Website development is an art and a science that even me with my years i still dey try understand am to the fullest. Its moving so fast that guy can join in 3 months and start staking claims and forget that there was a time when there was no dreamweaver, joomla or wordpress only notepad. You have to really know ur onions to say u are a web developer.

Same with me. I have tried Yii, Kohana and Zend but they were annoyingly frustrating. The one concept which cakePHP has is convention as opposed to configuration. This is a problem for guy who like to re-arrange stuffs in their codes but come to think of it, it makes it easier for a team of programmers to put up a web application working independently from different location. For the first time, am loving the convention of cakePHP. It make the whole process less of a hassle. Well until i churn out my first application and you guys have a go at it, i will continue learning.

I have been programming in php for a while now and always wanted to get better. I spent most part of this year trying out several PHP Framework that will help me rapidly develop secure PHP application. Lately i stumbled on cakePHP and developed a small application in 5mins. They are not really new.

I used them some years back when they where still starting. Currently they have improve their services and image. They now have a better website with the whole customer management stuff, better customer service (phone and support ticket), and affordable packages. Their uptime is also good. They have also pump energy into their marketing. They are good competition for syskay.

Problem i have with syskay is that they would shut you down if they smell a rat but smartweb just requested for an identification and i gave them a scanned copy of my intl passport and i can do good business without worries about them shutting my site.

I would recommend them and also so you know, they are in Jos.

I actually had to check my calender to be sure that we have not been sent back to the 90s. In the 90s, this would have been very tight. But now, its like .

Honestly, i have no comment to make cos i will not last long on that site, websites with the title bad will feel good around your website.

Since u designed with just html i will give you the thumbs up. here is what you need to do.

1. learn CSS
2. learn to work with graphics.
3. learn color combination.
4. learn page layout.

Go to w3school.com to learn css. with that you can add alot of life into your site. and do not scatter everything. Have a design idea before you start.

Follow DualCore's advice. Dump dreamweaver start with notepad and w3school. Html and css for a start. That should be your foundation. dreamweaver will be like taking candy from a baby.

This is a quick method to check if your website is vulnerable to mysql injection.

For does of you who leave your page url with your query string looking like *.php?id=//some value or text, obviously are asking to be attacked. You can run a quick test by adding a quote(') to the end of your query string.

EXAMPLE

www.site.com/news.php?id=5 //add a quote(') at the end

Like this :

www.site.com/news.php?id=5'

If you get a mysql error, you have just invited a hacker to your website and he would want to test his hacking skills with your website.

Pretty short though. This is not a tute on how to use sql injection. Next i will post on how to prevent sql injection.

The part in italics mean that you are not hand coding but using dreamweaver to generate php codes. If that is the case, YES your problem is double ambigious. If you want i can send you php manual or go to w3schools.com to learn how to hand code php, it will save you alot of stress like this one. I hand code from scratch and only recently am trying my hands on Zend Framework.

Sorry to pop in late. It is a wonderful idea. For now everything seems unorganised.
->First, January is in about one month from now, so we have just about that much time to put together the conference.
-> Second, we need an organising team. (Volunteers needed)
-> Third, we need to assign task to all volunteers i.e. designing and managing the website, conference location, registration of participants, submission of conference papers for approval etc. (Please person wey go school go read make him help me organize the stuff, will put something together myself and share with everyone)

obviously mysqll_real_escape_string(); requires that you are connected to your mysql server before running it and looking at your codes, you used it before connecting to the database.

Well, if you have not yet connected to the db yet and this connection is your first, i would say check your database connection, that is host (sometimes it is not localhost), username and password if they tally with what you created. If you are using an include for your connection, make sure it is pointing to the right file.

Looking at your codes, hate to sound like a newbie but the comma before your include path, does it have to be there to work cos i know i would not add it if all my files are in the root folder and the include files are in subfolders inside the root folder. A little newbie suggestion would be to remove the commas.

Well thats all i can think of and ignore the newbie thing cos when an advanced programmer makes tiny newbie mistakes i find it hard to believe and i ask politely what the the tiny mistake (kinda) is for.

I believe all your formatting should be handled outside the db. This seperates content from design.

To start with, i might get entagled in a web just like you did and start editing my db when trying to fix it. You db is just meant to store information and display when and where needed. Your css decides how it should look like.

i think it is my fault. i checked out the website (on firefox) and all i see is a centered table with some not well formatted text.

Don't mean to sound like a guru or something but trying learning how to design a website using the codes and notepad. it will take you almost the same time to master all the drag and drop of ms-frontpage.

On you website or white page (na wetin i see, no vex ),

Most people i know learnt how to develop by jumping right into it and seek help nly when they get choked.

try googling html tutorials, there are millions of them there. I would also recommend that you learn how to use a good graphics package too.

If you need a teacher, well i go bill you. Another problem be say i dey Enugu. so why you no try learn am yourself.
