@Kilode and isale_gan, it's obvious that not allowing people in the Diaspora to vote is a subtle attempt at disenfranchising you guys.
Nigerians in Diaspora are more likely to vote, unlike Nigerians at home who would be scared of thugs and the like.

Now thats true.

They are scared of Diaspora voters because they know their votes will count and that will mean defeat in the election.
Politics / Re: Fashola Please Fix Allen Avenue by asscend: 1:10am On Jan 20, 2011
The hall mark of a morden city are good walk ways.

Only in Nigeria will contract be awarded for a road and there will be no walk ways. This is absurd and should stop.

In places that seem to have walk ways you find street traders displaying their goods on it; or pedestrians battling the road with Okada.

if we have good walk ways you will find out that people will walk which in turn keeps them fit and will reduce our dependence on Okada or public transport.

KnowAll:

What they should do is build a multi story car park at d juntion of Opebi & Allen, all who have business in d area would park there at a discount and those who actually live on Allen can park their cars with a 90% discount in d car park.

After building d multi- story car park they should ban okada from Allen Avenue, Toyin Street & Opebi in it's place a tram would run from Allen to Opebi then to Toyin street, Danfo's should also be banned only registered Taxis & d Trams should be d only legal public transport.

The spaces in front of most of those exquiste shops where owners park their vechiles would be expanded & paved to be used as walk-ways obviously with those ubiquitious open gutters covered & put under-ground where it should be.

i like your proposal.

It can be done if the govt want to; how ever a private firm can tke it up including funding the project; the govt will bow to your proposal as long as they will be something for them.

Good job by the govt.

That amount of money for work over seas? i wonder what kind of job and in which country?

At least the youths got their money back, they must look inwards now and look for what to do to better their lives.

Sky Blue:

That is not always the case and is more a symptom of a country with very weak institutions where any change in government can cause massive disruption and bring about little to no continuation. Do you think if the PDP aspirant in Lagos wins the gubernatorial elections there would eb continuation in policies (good ones ) that the present government has started, or would the new man try to start everything from scratch again just to prove their is a new man in town? Don't necessarily answer based on what your ideal for the situation is, rather look back at the numerous experiences of the past before you answer.

Now thats a fact you've stated there.

Our institutions need strengthning and continuity and must not be based on individuals.

Just use NAFDAC as a case study where continuity is at work.

We need more of such.
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate - Battle Of The Campaigners by asscend: 11:55pm On Jan 17, 2011
We need more interviews and as we go on debates. Thanks for the clips.

As a lawyer, Ribadu will win all the others big time when it comes to speaking. (Nigeria needs this).

Who are their running mates? I know GEJ's own.

Nigeria's problem is its structure. It's structured to propel corruption and its vices.

If a good politician with good intentions go into the senate or house of reps. he's bound to easily become corrupt because the system largely supports corruption and there's no wisdom there that he should fight it, else he'll be ridiculed and everything he plans will be frustrated.

i will like to ask our potential president that mean well for the growth of our nation, what have they done, to change this structure to become one that emulates productivity.

Very well said. Thats a fact.

An Hausa man over Ibo any day any time.

Ibo people in Lagos? God forbid.

I will personally go down to Alausa and blow it up, if an Igbo man wins any governorship election in Lagos.

Thats taking it too far. They are Nigerians and deserve to rule if elected. Such comments should never be allowed at any point. its just not right.

Politics / Re: The 63 Registered Political Parties Of Nigeria by asscend: 5:25pm On Jan 12, 2011
The list goes on and on on. Way too many.

However its good to educate and remind the public that there are other parties apart from PDP.

Every Nigerian should belong or subscribe to a party or their policy; well thats when the era of politicians changeing parties like undies ends.

A law must be passed concearning this in the next Parliament.
Politics / Re: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by asscend: 6:53pm On Jan 11, 2011
Missy85:

2 things;

accepting Atiku back into ACN is not the same as accepting him back as their presidential candidate. If Atiku loses in the Pdp prim, he would remain desperate to keep GEJ out of Aso Rock. This cld mean taking his support to Acn, but not necessarily with him as a presidential candidate

Well said.

If only he was truely PDP he should stay to support Goodluck regardless.

I only blame the stupid law that allow politicians to change parties few weeks b4 an election.  Its insane and should be changed immediately.

monkeyleg:

OK, let us get the basics right first.

Not saying that these machince and personels trained up wont work. But look at the situation that happened to me during the last voters register excersize.

1: INEC officials that were meant to register people did not turn up till 1:30pm, although the agreed time was 8:00am

2: 2 INEC officials arrived to register over 1000 people, whereby each registeration takes about 5mins. Do this maths, regiateration was meant to happen 1day only.

3: INEC registeration was due to end at 5:00pm, considering they arrived very late, how many people would they have registered before the close of business?

4: Most importantly, they arrive with only 1 machine and no backup battery or generator. After about 1:30hrs, they decided to leave.

This is typical of the Nigerian factor and what i will describe as common mistake of INEC.

I hope they wont try this this time around, they have a number of days to do this and not the one day they had last time.

Guys please take note of centers like this so we can report them immediately. Thank God for technology.

Hello people, i am currently working on prototyping the first 24 hr world clock, this is a project i have been working on for about 2 years now,it is (to the best of my knowledge) going to be the first single face analog clock that can tell 24 hr time(i.e. Whether it is a.m or p.m) for any place in the world. It can be put to use in airports, stadia, televion, banks, homes, schools and indeed anywhere there is the need to know what the time is. This idea is still in initial prototype stage.

i hope you have applied for patent?

Your idea is hot and could be the next big thing.

Thank God for AC.

We need more opposition. The candidiates might not be perfect now but gradually the idea of opposition gets into the people and you will eventually see quality candidates.

its high time we have a law to stop this stupid idea of politicians moving from one party to another just b4 elections.

it should be done 2yrs b4 an election is due.

Take note of all those moving parties and vote them out.

ARSENAL WILL NEVER WIN ANY TROPHY AS LONG AS THAT NAUGHTY AND ONE TRACK PROFESSOR REMAINS ON THE BENCH.

THE MAN IS FROM THE SAME SCHOOL AS THE IMEDIATE PAST FRENCH COACH AND WE ALL KNOW THE STORY OF THE FRENCH TEAM. THESE MEN ARE AS BLIND AS A BATH AND WILL NEVER SEE WHAT THE FANS ARE SEEING.

I AM NOT SURPRISE THE TEAM IS TURNING OUT THIS WAY; I JUST WAIT FOR WHEN IT WILL BE TOTAL HUMILATION AND THE BOARD WILL HAVE TO KICK HIM OUT; THEN AGAIN WHY WAIT TILL IT GETS SO BAD WHEN THEY COULD HAVE ACTED EARLIER, WELL THE FRENCH WAITED UNTIL IT ENDED IN TOTAL HUMILATION OF THE NATIONAL TEAM.

ARSENAL IS A PROCESS UNDER ARSENE AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL HE LEAVES BECAUSE THATS ALL HE KNOWS, AT THE MOMENT THE TEAM IS IN 3RD PLACE AND IN THE QUARTER FINAL OF THE CARLING CUP. HMM NOT BAD AT ALL IF THATS THE AMBITION OF ARSENAL.

YOU NEED A MANAGER WITH A TROPHY MENTALITY, JUST ASK JOSE OR SIR FERGIE.
