There are many reasons why Elon will struggle and I'll mention two:

1. If his Tesla phone launches and runs in Android OS, he's just another competitor out there. He would need to first win Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, etc fanboys before he can become relevant enough to be a threat to Apple.

2. If he decides to go with another OS (Ubuntu, for example), he would need to convince developers to look away from iOS and Android; a place where they have a ready market for their products. E go really sweat.
