Nitric: I like your analysis however I am not interested in starting or running the business per se because I will not have the time to monitor its daily operations
What I want is someone who is already running the business and who knows what he/she is doing so I can provide some additional funds to scale up operations.
Most people here just claim they are running a business but they get thrown off balance the moment you ask them to provide historical financial records to support profitability figures they have been churning out.
I am not ready to gamble with my money by investing in a start-up therefore it is only established businesses that I will consider but the owner must prove to me that the business is the one paying his bills before I make any investment. It will be interesting to know if you are able to get the type of person that you are looking for. If someone is already running a profitable business, why will he need investment from a total stranger he met on the internet for his scale up? I am thinking such a person will have several options open to him because he has a going profitable business. |

monteriza: What you’re about to read can transform your life forever. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you take your time to read and understand every word of it from start to finish.
The idea is a straight forward one, and easy to implement too. Also, it doesn’t require a lot of capital to start. I believe you are aware that most of the items you and I use everyday like soap, detergents, cream, beverages, drugs, footwear, animal feed, etc. are produced from agricultural produce like palm oil, palm kernel oil, cocoa, garlic, groundnuts, maize, etc.
The companies that manufacture these products use these agricultural produce as raw materials. It would be safe to say that without these raw materials, the companies will shutdown. Hence, these companies are always on the lookout for individuals who can supply them with these agricultural produce, and at competitive prices.
On the other hand, farmers who cultivate these produce are looking for people to sell to. Majority of them do not have access to these companies, making them rely solely on individuals who buy on a small scale. Often times, their produce get spoilt because they are unable to sell them all and they do not have the facilities to preserve them.
The idea I’m sharing with you is about being a link or middleman between the companies and the farmers. Like I said earlier, the idea is straight forward. It does not require plenty of capital and highly convenient. It doesn’t have to affect your full-time job if you have one already.
What You Need To Start:
- A mobile phone. - A laptop with internet connection (For Research). There’s no problem if you don’t have a laptop, a phone with browsing facility will do. And if you don’t have that, you can use the cyber café. - A few bucks for marketing (You need to create a business card, proposal and transport yourself to and from the company location). - Nothing More (You don’t need an office to do this).
Here’s What You’ll Do To Start The Raw Material Supply Business, From The Comfort Of Your Home Nice concept. But why is your website suspended? |

Shrink wrap is certainly not made from nylon. Maybe you should be talking of polyethylene, polypropylene, PET and things made from them. Those are the plastics that are commonly recycled. We usually come across nylon in form of threads, ropes and as threads in tyres, those applications where a strong fibre is required. |
Agriculture › Re: How Banana&plantain Farmers Can Get Healthy Suckers For Bigger Bunches In 2020 by Atlanticfire: 5:30am On Jun 13, 2020 |
Sacelfarms: How Banana and Plantain farmers can get healthy suckers for bigger bunches as 2020 farming season Approaches. By Agricultural Extension Officer Stanley Enyi at Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.
Few Banana and Plantain farmers have started planting Suckers. farmers are yet to embrace new methods of growing Banana and Plantain in smaller land spaces for bigger harvest instead they practice the conventional old way of cultivating the piper suckers or maiden suckers from larger farms. My experiences is that science in recent times has adopted the tissue culture plantlet and twin row cropping system which enables farmers to plant Banana and Plantain sucker-plantlet, for rapid production of high-quality Premium Banana and Plantain fruit bunches that could earn farmers better income. The Chairman of Nigerians Banana and Plantain Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative in Asaba, Delta State. Mr Stanley Enyi, said Banana and Plantain nursery sucker-plantlet production had evolved technologically such that there was no longer a need for the use of piper suckers or maiden suckers but the planting of Banana and Plantain sucker-plantlet. “We shall begin to teach farmers the new method in Delta, Edo and Akwa Ibom State,” He said, This will be done through Agricultural Cooperative workshop in order to sensitize Nigerians Farmers and other stakeholders on the need to embrace the new system for improved income as well as other benefits.
Since Banana and Plantain is a heavy feeder crop, at a point, it would need much water during dry season and that’s why timing is very important. “We insist that the soil should be the one that is well-drained so that at a particular point, the plant would be looking for more water, they Solar powered borehole or Rain harvesting dam can supply water by any irrigation design to reduce the wilting stress of the crop which when practiced timely cause increase of the suckers and bunches yield.
The soil also needs to be harrowed to aid the penetration for the sucker-plantlet during planting. “For Commercial Farming it is best people practices Phasal planting by Planting minimum of 2000 Sucker-plantlet for 26 weeks to achieve all year round harvest during the first farming season, which is between March to August. However, the farmer who is planting at such period should be conscious of the sun. Because the temperature would be high in early month of March, one of the recommended agronomy activities is that the farmer must mulch, meaning that he gets grass material and puts round the sucker plant and also put manured-soil so as to reduce the level of intensity of the sun on the sucker-plantlet. “That should be done properly otherwise, it would lead to the decay of the sucker-plantlets.
For a viable banana and Plantain industry venture I will always advice everyone to practice Mixed farming and Relay-cropping system with this method you can plant Either Banana or Plantain as your main crop. Upon which, after two weeks of planting your main crop you then start sowing Egusi melon as a cover crop to reduce your weeding labour cost and control the excessive use of herbicides in order to produce organic fruits. More so another reason to harvest your Egusi melon by 3months and Relay crop with Ginger seedling is to create an Assurance crop against farm yield failure of the main crop. This are more practiced in Countries like Australian, Jamaica and Ecuador which is the secrets that makes their farmer wealthy. However I will advise that 2months to the harvest of your ginger rhizomes you as a Commercial Banana and Plantain farmer must integrate fluted pumpkin (Ugu) seedling as your irrigational crop buffer for the dry season cost of supplying water to your banana or plantain plantation and in turn Multi-use the staking wood for the crippling vine Leaves as your wind breaker to mitigate Premature harvest of your banana and plantain plants. Lastly for someone who is thinking on how best to secure their farm investment, in this I will suggest using honeybees as a natural security measure to reduce fruit pilfering, cattle herdsmen destruction and loses to low yield due to low insect pollination because we may not have bountiful harvest output. So it is needful to integrate honeybees for a win-win Socio-economic farming environment.
Generally Why most people still plant at this time with unvaccinated suckers is because they lack proper Agricultural Extension officers Communication and feel that doing it as in the time of old will encourage rapid growth of sucker plants so that before the rain stop, it would continue growth and development.”
Nevertheless I will advised both Old and New Nigerian Banana and Plantain farmers to plant their farms with vaccinated Sucker-plantlet as soon as the rain start fully this year. So that you can experience how lucrative the Banana Industry has become.
“Sometimes, our banana and Plantain farmers believe that the more bigger unvaccinated sucker put into the soil, the bigger the bunches at harvest but now you will learn and understand that there other essential needs be provided naturally and in a situation it is available you have create an artificial means by timely fertilization provision to achieve a premium quality banana and Plantain bunch yield.
Categorically, “the more you give to the soil, the more you receive as far as banana and plantain farming is concerned. So we encourage those going into banana and plantain fruit production, to plan their farm budget with our agricultural extension expert for bigger fruit sizes.
Tissue Culture or Macro propagation sucker plantlet is a technology that if you have suckers of banana and plantain that you are interested in multiplying, you propagate 10 banana and Plantain from one banana or plantain sucker within 30days. More so there are some other treatment methods too which can be used to treat the banana and plantain sucker-plantlet before field planting establishment.”
Also, I Mr. Stanley Enyi as the National chairman of the Banana and Plantain Registered-Farmers Association of Nigeria (BAPFAN), I will, emphasize the need for all those who plant banana and plantain across Nigeria to heavily mulch their plant so that they do not stress the plant during the dry. However I have experienced that out of the two seasons of planting banana and plantain, the July Phase planting yield better profitability due to the off season market demand.
Also for the crop to grows at the same pace you should plant with nursery plantlet. We advise farmers to sow fluted pumpkin seed and use the Ugu staking pole and wire for their crop as wind breaker even when harvesting bi-weekly from the vegetables leaves in Dry season.” I also stressed the need for farmers to fertilize their farms at the right time of each month, either at the planting or in share dosage. Generally I will add, that preparation of land should begin as from Mid-January for those who make their farm layout in March to April and wait until the rains begins well before planting and farmers should learn how to grow and multiply sucker-plantlets for themselves once you have a desirable variety instead of travelling far to get more quantity.
“At the moment, BAPFAN and NIBAPFAM will be sensitizing farmers in the Delta state and Akwa Ibom State how to multiply their suckers within 30days instead of using maiden suckers because we are now looking at cultivating organic Nigerian Bananas and Plantain to join Ecuador and Australian in the exporting market.
Meanwhile, I will have to advised farmers to make their choice of suckers from the commercial varieties of Banana and Plantain in Nigeria. “Today we have improved hybrid of Giant Cameroonian Plantain at N150 per sucker-plantlet, Dwarf Elephant Plantain at N120 per sucker-plantlet, French horn double bunch Plantain at N250 per sucker-plantlet, Giant FHIA21 Plantain at N380 per sucker and Giant Cavendish Banana at N350 per sucker, Dwarf William Banana at N250 per sucker-plantlet, Gross Michel Banana at N150 per sucker and so on, All with Free delivery Nationwide for all our Registered members or orders above 2000 quantities. It now depends on the farmers choice and reason for production to choose from these varieties; however in farming dynamics it is the end users that tell us which variety to produce. The farmer also needs to check the size of varieties good for his farm, he needs to find out if the sucker-plantlet are good for his soil and the sensibility of the variety to this locality.
“Interested farmers can always get good suckers, tissue culture plantlet varieties and Specialized fertilisers from the Nigerian Banana and Plantain Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (NIBAPFAM) in Asaba and other State outlets. And the Banana and Plantain Registered-Farmers Association of Nigeria (BAPFAN) in Ubuluku. because both organizations are involved in the production of some of these varieties.

atheistandproud: In the last post, we did a brief introduction talking data, instructions sets and just a general introduction. Now we’ll go a bit deeper. Please note that this is just to give you a general basic understanding of how these things work. Straight to the point basic knowledge.
Now let’s look at the CPU itself. Inside a CPU you’ll find 1. Control unit 2. Arithmetic and Logic unit 3. Registers (Immediate access store and cache)
These are the three main parts of a CPU inside an SoC.
Opcode and Operand: An opcode is an instruction attached to any piece of data sent to the CPU for processing. An Operand is the data that has been sent to the CPU for processing. If you click on a photo (data or operand) on your phone and click delete (opcode or instruction), both the instruction and the data are sent to your CPU for processing.
The control unit does not carry out processing. It’s function is to tell the other parts of the CPU how to do their jobs. It does this by recognising the opcode attached to an operand, matching it with the same code in the instruction set and then feeding it to the ALU which then can carries out this task.
The ALU consists of two parts, the Arithmetic unit (AU) and the Logic unit (LU). The arithmetic unit carries out arithmetic like add, subtract, divide or multiply while the logic unit carries out logical tasks like comparison, interpretation or true or false tasks. The ALU carries out its functions through the use of logic gates.
Registers and Cache: These are very fast memory circuits. You can think of each register as a box which holds a piece of data useful to the CPU. These pieces of data allow the CPU to quickly 'fetch' and then 'decode' and then 'execute' the instuctions held in RAM that are part of a program, one instruction at a time.
It is important to note that RAM is not part of the CPU, it is part of a Smartphone's SoC but not part of the CPU.
When you give an instruction to your phone, the Opcode and Operand are sent to the control unit. The app (e.g keyboard) which you are using is already kept in the RAM, also a copy of the instruction set is kept in the RAM. So when the Opcode and Operand reaches the control unit, the control unit then establishes two lines of communication with the RAM (1 for Opcode data and 2 for Operand address). The CPU does not have any proper storage of its own so it has to keep data in the RAM. This first stage is the fetch stage. When the CPU has sent data to the RAM, it begins the decode and execute phase. Taking in bits of the operand to be worked on and matching it with the Opcode, when it’s matched. If the task to be done has the Opcode appearing multiple times, the control unit will save that piece of data to it's internal cache which is usually very small so that it doesn't have to go to the RAM till that particular set of tasks is done. The control unit feeds the data with the instructions to the ALU where the processing is done. The ALU is a maze of transistors arranged in patterns called logic gates. When data passes through them, they are processed and the results are given out as an output.
In the old days, each processor only had one CPU which did all the load, but now you can have more than one CPU sharing the load. Thus making processing of data easier and faster. Each CPU is called a core. When you have 2 CPU (dual core), 4 CPU (quad core), 6 CPU (Hexa core), 8 CPU (Octacore) and 10 CPU (Deca core).
The time taken to carry out the fetch-decode-execute cycle is called a clock cycle and it is measured per second. The unit of measurement is in Hertz. These days, CPUs run at gigahertz per second.
We'll still look at logic gates and try to determine if clock speed is what makes a CPU great as some people here have argued. Nice. I have been wondering how easy it will be to make microcontrollers to do some of the functions that are being done by todays smartphones. Things like facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, 3 dimensional speed. OP do you know about microcontrollers? |

BE PREPARED
Everyone is telling you how to NOT catch #coronavirus, but NO ONE is saying what to do if you get it. Thanks to this nurse in the UK for putting this guide together:
Finally, some sensible advice. From a GP Nurse in the UK.
What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place:
• good hand washing • personal hygiene • social distancing
but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will. So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions:
If you get Covid-19
You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it might come your way!
Things to start doing now:
Get 20 minutes sun on your entire body (or as much as possible) every day. This will dramatically increase your Vitamin D levels, which improves your immune system.
If affordable take a good general supplement, plus 2000mg Vit C a day. Include ZINC, SELENIUM & GLUTATHIONE.
Scott’s Emulsion is a great general tonic (cod liver oil)
Things you should actually buy ahead of time:
*Kleenex*
*Paracetamol*
*Cough medicine* of choice (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol)
*Zinc lozenges*
*Throat spray* like Andolex or TCP
*Honey and lemon* can work just as well!
*Vicks* vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.
*A humidifier* would be a good thing to buy and use in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam)
*If you have a history of asthma* and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.
*Meals* This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.
*Hydrate* hydrate, hydrate! Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink, though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!
*For symptom management* and a fever over 38°c take Paracetamol rather than Ibuprofen.
*Rest lots* You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better you may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided!
*Wear gloves and a mask* to avoid contaminating others in your house
*Isolate* in your bedroom if not living alone, ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.
*Sanitize* your bed linen and clothes frequently by washing and clean your bathroom with recommended sanitizers.
*You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless* you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 39°C) and unmanaged with meds.
90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds.
If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse:
*Pre-existing risks* If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.
*Children* One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus, they usually bounce back in a few days (but they will still be infectious) Just use pediatric dosing .
*Be calm and prepare rationally* and everything will be fine. This is to inform us all that the pH for corona virus varies from 5.5 to 8.5.
All we need to do, to beat corona virus, we need to take more of an alkaline foods that are above the above pH level of the Virus.
Some of which are:
*Lemon - 9.9pH* *Lime - 8.2pH* *Avocado - 15.6pH* *Garlic - 13.2pH* *Mango - 8.7pH* *Tangerine - 8.5pH* *Pineapple - 12.7pH* *Dandelion - 22.7pH* *Orange - 9.2pH*
How do you know you have coronavirus?
1. Itching in the throat 2. Dry throat 3. Dry couch 4. High temperature 5. Shortness of breath 6. Loss of sense of taste & smell 7. Covid toes - toes turning blue/black 8. Repeated sneezing.
Some or all of the above
So where you notice these things quickly take warm/hot water with lemon and drink. (You may add chopped garlic, ginger, teaspoon turmeric )
Do not keep this information to yourself only. Pass it to all your family and friends. Stop posting fake information online. Have you seen any food with a PH greater than 14 before? The PH scale ends at 14 so how are you getting foods with PH higher than 14. Even acidic foods are listed with PH greater than 7. Fear God |
Agriculture › Re: Has Anyone Ever Planted Pop Corn Before? by Atlanticfire: 10:14pm On Jun 11, 2020 |
Pop corn is a different variety of corn.
I doubt if you can get the seed locally. You can ask at iita or national cereal research institute if they have.
Your best bet is to import the seed.
You have to grow it in isolation from other types of corn so that they do not cross pollinate it.
Pop corn is different because it has a very tough seed coat the traps the steam generated when it is heated until the the internal pressure is very high, enough to make it pop explosively.
If you don't plant your pop corn away from other corn varieties it will be cross pollinated and the resultant seeds may not have the required poping characteristics. |

I know for a fact that not everyone has the will and patience to grow their own seedlings.
Your concerns are well placed, but know that we deal with authentic hybrids from NIFOR. Nice that the seeds come from NIFOR. That is what Nigerians should be doing, get real hybrid seeds from the recommended distributors and sprout them and sell to the public and have evidence of the source of the seeds to give to your buyers. The only problem I have with your post is that you use the word "some folks" it is not some folks, it is very many folks. They advertise on Nairaland, through whatsapp and facebook claiming to be selling hybrid seeds and duping people. I lost a lot of money trying to get hybrid pawpaw seeds and only realised lately that they are simply getting f2 seeds from germinated F1 plants and selling such F2 seeds as F1 seeds. I spoke to one of the folks doing this and the fool did not even know the difference between F1 and F2 seeds. Some other folks I have spoken to know the difference between F1 and F2 but are simply preying on the ignorance of people to sell them f2 seeds and seedlings in place of F1 seeds. If I were resident in Nigeria at the time of the purchase, I would have driven down to see and investigate the seeds I am buying before parting with my money. I am also at loss as to what to do with 1000 stands of so called hybrid bananas I planted after buying it from a renowned seed seller on Nairaland. He sent me pictures of massive bunch sizes as evidence of what the yield will look like from the banana at maturity, 3 years down the line, I did not get any useful yield from the banana. If you are abroad don't go into farming as the sole or major financer of the project in Nigeria, the people are either too incompetent or too fraudulent to be trusted with your hard earned money and left without close supervision. |

wumss: Not sure I follow what you are trying to say here? do you mean that hybrid plants will not produce hybrid seeds...please excuse my ignorance if it is a stupid question? There is something called filial generations. When two distinctly pure genotypes of a plant are mated the first sets of seeds the produce is called the 1st filial generation hybrid and is normally denoted on the seed pack as F1 When the F1 seeds are planted they give the hybrid traits inherited from the previous 2 genotypes that was mated to get the F1 seed. When the F1 seeds grow to maturity and produce their own seeds, those seeds will have traits that are different from the traits of the F1 seeds. This is because the F1 seeds when they flower are now pollinated by random uncontrolled spores and the characteristics they will inherit from the random spores are unknown and are usually different from the characteristics of the F1 hybrid seeds and what characteristics you now get is purely by chance events. At best they should label those seeds as second filial generation seeds (F2 seeds) if they are cross between the initial hybrid seeds. Unfortunately our seedling sellers don't even warn anyone that the plants they are selling are grown from seeds of hybrid plants and might not have the desired hybrid characteristics. To get hybrid seedlings from a hybrid plant, you need to grow it from either stem cuttings, grafting, air layering or by tissue culture methods not by seed propagation |

ObaOfUyo: What's your offer You need to post your current prices. Commodities don't have a fixed price, it changes frequently based on demand and supply. Just post your price and update it periodically so that people can compare your price and contact you if it is favorable to them. Those who are in the business knows how much they are paying for the commodity and if your price is competitive they will know. Just try to make your price competitive. I can not even comment on the price for the chaff that you have quoted. I don't know what you mean by chaff, but if it is the shells that you are calling chaff, just know that there are places where one can get the shells at less than 10,000 naira per ton, so asking for 10,000 naira per bag is like saying that you are not interested in selling the shell. Just focus on making your price competitive, buyers will come. If in doubt, ask other sellers around you how much they are currently selling. |

joyoftheearth: If anyone is interested in mature Hybrid Tenera palm oil seedling, we have a group member that wants to sell at a very good price of 300 naira. Be very careful what tree seedlings that you promote. Lots of deception going on in the sales of seedlings and suckers. How did you confirm that the seedling that you are promoting is actually hybrid? Who certified it as hybrid? Some folks just take seeds from hybrid plants, sprout them and claim that the resulting seedlings are hybrids and sell to unsuspecting buyers who would not know that they have been duped until years later when the plants start producing and they don't get the expected hybrid performance. |

ObaOfUyo: Thank You Nairaland for giving me a means to alert the good people of Nigeria on the availability of my products from my palm kernel mill. Hustle Never sleeps, please if you need palm kernels or the chaff, call or WhatsApp on 080-6443-7054 The price is #15,000 per bag, while the chaff is #10,000 per bag. Even if you want hundred bags of palm kernel, we have them ready for you, no kidding, no joking, no games. We will have it delivered to you in any part of the country, transport is negotiable.
I cross my heart and hope to die
Lalasticlala, mynd44 Help my hustle, thanks.
Photos coming up Why will you want to sell a bag of palm kernel for 15,000 naira? Is it not 80kg bag? Selling 80 kg for 15,000 comes to 187,500 naira per ton of the kernel. That means to get a ton of palm kernel oil from your kernel, one has to buy 468,750 naira worth of kernels which is higher than the cost of the 1 ton of pko that he will get from the kernels. Why would anyone want to buy from you and lose money? Where will he sell the kernel or the pko to recoup his money? We have not even added transport cost. |

Agriculture › Re: My Sorjorn Into Rice Farming In 2020. by Atlanticfire: 1:05pm On Jun 01, 2020 |
ikelords: I was owed for 3 months plus when I was supplying already milled rice to wholeseller, I was at their mercy because they will have to sell it then use your money for other business and start paying you in bits. I am not only moved by passion but by the need to explore an untapped area of agriculture which is very promising. Thank you so much for you write up. I look forward to more reviews from you. You were owed for 3 months and you think that is a problem? Why not sign agreement with your buyers stipulating the payment conditions and penalty for default? We used to do sales on return when we were into distribution, if you don't pay for previous supply, you don't get new supply. We target at least 20% profit margin, so after 5 trade cycle, even if the buyer defaults after the 5th trade cycle, our previous profits would have covered for that default. Also the credit rating of each buyer is linked to previous payment performance. Between the time you got your farmland and the time you are going to plant is more than the 3 months delay that you are complaining about, so even in the farming, your money is still tied down. If wholesalers are giving you headache, why not sell directly to retailers or why not sell at cash only basis to wholesalers at less profit margins? Anyway welcome to farming, I have been involved in farming for sometime now so I can not advise anyone to leave the service sector to the primary production sector unless it is backward integration where you already have a successful service business running and you want to expand into production to feed your services business. Look at what Dangote did in cement, he was importing cement clinkers and just grinding and packaging them for sale, this was a service business. After the success of the service business he started opening up his own cement production plants and asked government to frustrate importation of cement clinkers by others. He had a going service business before into production of cement. The same thing can be said of his sugar and salt businesses they are still service businesses until today. His foray into primary production without a corresponding service business failed when he tried to go into tomato farming and paste production. I wish you success and welcome to our club of farmers. We feed the nation, although we don't become millionaires through farming. |
