Good day House,
To God be the Glory! Interview appointment was 10am today and it was successful; After going through all security checks and making necessary payments, we were called at window 20 to submit only 1 passport photograph, 1 photocopy and original of only birth certificates for 5 of us and marriage certificate. The guy at window 20 never even demanded for our academic credentials, and we wondered why?
We waited until our ticket number beeped!
CO: Good afternoon
US: Good afternoon
CO: How are you?
US: We are fine thank you, and you? He replied: very good
CO: Please do your thumb prints on the machine - we both did that
CO: Please raise your right hands and promise to .....
CO: To my wife, you are the principal applicant..... my wife answered yes
US: We remained standing with the kids for the interview. I was not asked to go and sit down with the kids

INTERVIEW PROPER
CO: What's is your highest educational qualification
My wife: Answered
CO: Do you have any document for this
My wife: She presents Original and 1 photocopy
CO: Do you have WAEC?
My wife: Yes, and presents her Original WAEC and 1 photocopy
CO: Everything is good, pulls out white paper and hands over to us!

To all members of this great forum, we remain eternally grateful. God bless you in your dreams!

Note: We had 2 birth certificates; the NPC, and the normal birth certificate for myself and my wife. The man at windows 20 looked at both, but choose the NPC. He remarked : your NPC certificate is a certified one (authenticated), and I said yes.
We prepared so hard; asked ourselves questions and even carried 2 big albums for courtship, introduction and wedding, but CO never asked us to present any album and only asked us 2 questions during the interview proper as highlighted above. We can clearly see God's favor and hands in our interview.
GENERAL ADVICE TO ALL: Please, let's not forget our God when we get to the U.S. When things are rosy, let's learn to hold on to God at such times more than when we encounter problems.
Congratulations

Rolling_138: Apologies for the late post, I didn’t take my laptop along to Lagos and just returned to my base.
We had our interview on Thursday 21 March and God granted us success. We got to the embassy around 6:20am and we didn’t wait for long when a man came out and asked us to cue for 6:30 non-immigrant and 7:00 Immigrant visa interview appointments. Got through all the rigorous security checks and finally entered the interview hall, paid the visa fees for our family of three, and submitted our documents at window 16. It didn’t take so long when the CO’s started showing up and the interview started. We were the second to be interviewed by the CO at window 15. He spent up to 25 minutes looking through our documents before our number flashed on the display for us to approach the counter.
My wife is the principal applicant and the interview went as follows;
CO: Goodmorning
We: Goodmoring
CO: Asks us to raise our right hand and does the oath thing; Do you swear to say the truth today and nothing but the truth
We: Yes we do
CO: Takes our fingerprints and asks me to go sit down with our baby while he chats with my wife
Me: okay, I went and sat down carrying our baby who had fallen asleep after a lot of play.
CO: Why is your husband’s passport full of stamps?
Wife: He was studying in the UK and had to come home every break ‘cos of his work
CO: What was he studying there ?
Wife: Mechanical Engineering
CO: I can see your baby was born in the UK, tell me about him
Wife: Told him baby’s DOB and few things
CO: What is your highest level of education
Wife: B.Ed degree
CO: Tell me about your course
Wife: Explains her course to the CO
CO: Have you ever taught before?
Wife: Only during my teaching practice, I taught Bleep Bleep Bleep
CO: When did you meet your husband?
Wife: Bleep Bleep Bleep
CO: Where did you meet your husband
Wife: Bleep town
CO: were you schooling in Bleep town?
Wife: I schooled in YYY town but met my husband in Bleep town, the distance is not that far, moreover our family house is in Bleep town.
CO: When did you travel to the UK?
Wife: DDMMYYYY
CO: Did you travel together with your husband?
Wife: No, he had to leave before me for his studies because my visa was not ready then.
CO: When did you come back to Nigeria
Wife: I can’t remember the exact date but it was Bleep month
CO: Opens wife’s passport and checks to confirm the date she was stamped back into Nigeria.
CO: Did you do your child naming?
Wife: Yes, we did
CO: Did any of your family member come over for the naming / dedication?
Wife: No, it was just friends and church members
CO: Can I see the pics
Wife: Sure; flips album to show him pics and talks about some people in the pictures.
CO: Can you please go and sit down and call me your husband.
Wife: Calls me and collects our baby from me.
CO: You studied Mechanical Engineering in the UK, what year did you start?
Me: I started in 2009
CO: Have you ever applied for a US visa before?
Me: Yes, I have.
CO: at that time what were you doing?
Me: I was working with company A
CO: so what happened, you left company A for B?
Me: No, I am still working for the same company; I’ve been with them for a long time now.
CO: Can I see your work Identity Card?
Me: I brought out my work Id. Card alongside a letter of introduction from my company and gave it to him. He collected both items and read through.
CO: oh that’s true; it’s like company A & B merged or something
Me: Yes, the companies merged.
CO: so was it the company that paid for your degree in the UK?
Me: No, I paid for my studies myself.
CO: Your mechanical engineering was it General Mechanical engineering or was it specifically related to the oil &gas industry
Me: it was general mechanical engineering.
CO: When did you get married?
Me: 2010, did the church wedding on December XX, 2010.
CO: Can you tell me where you met your wife?
Me: I met my wife in a supermarket in Bleep town.
CO: one moment please. He left and went to pick some documents
Me: okay
CO: comes back with 2 sheets of paper and hides them under his counter.
CO: I will ask you one last thing
Me: okay
CO: This gentleman you’ve added here; (he points to a sheet of paper we submitted to update our hosts address) do you know him personally, have you met him before?
Me: Yes, he’s a very close friend, I opened the album to show him pictures with our host, but he stops me. (I guess he realized he had spent so much time with us; about 30 mins)
CO: oh don’t bother.
CO: Throughout this whole process, has he or anybody else asked you to pay money for anything ?
Me: No, not at all.
CO: Please call your wife to come
Me: I called my wife and she came to stand with me at the window carrying our baby.
CO: I am satisfied. I will give you a visa today. He picks the two sheets of paper he had hidden under the counter and circles an address for us to pick up the visa on one, then started explaining the proxy pick up process and the $165 payment on the other sheet of paper.
We: Thank you very much, God Bless you and God Bless America. We hurriedly packed our things and left before he remembers more questions to ask us.

Guys, na so the thing be o !, the guy ask us questions so tay we tire.
We thank God immensely for granting us Divine favour.
I also wish to use this opportunity to greatly appreciate my lovely wife for the way and manner she answered the barrage of questions that the CO fired at her. (I have been playing the DV lottery every year since 2000 and never won, we got married and just played once, then she won.)

Congratulations

mohamed shire: hi every body in the house, it is now 36 days from the time i have been putted on further administrative process by US embassy in Nairobi, and the yellow form that they have given me says wait 90 days, and i have heard that the waiting time for further administrative processing is 60 days, what do you think is wrong or they wrote 90 days in my form is mistake.
and the other thing i want to ask is CO wrote my name wrongly in that form and wrote my case number as 2012 instead of 2013, so will that have any effect in my case, i just saw that when i went to my home.

please write me soon
As difficult as it might seem, all you have to do is WAIT. Make no efforts to contact the embassy. Doing so would at ur peril. Ur visa will eventually be granted if nothing is amiss in ur records. Better late than never.

Tolexander: little do Nigerians know that there is power in the word that proceeds from the mouth.
You all call Victor Moses the leading man that will lead the super eagles to the glory affliating his role to that of the biblical Moses that lead the Israelites to the promised land. Do you remember that the Biblical Moses didn't reach the promised land?
Exactly what you have unknowingly professed to Victor Moses.

Auschris, my license expired, will the Nursing council answer me? I went to renew the license but they gave me stringent measures. I have to attend a seminar for one week and still pay for this seminar which is N15,000 including payment for the renewal which is N9,000 and then i pay for the transcript. These board are milking us dry yet they cannot fight for us to have a foothold here in Nigeria. By tomorrow, i will go and check. The problem is that they have not even brought out a date for the seminar so that i rush and register, i want to leave.
They can't validate an expired licence. It is also compulsory attend the MCPDP seminar cos it is a condition for licence renewal. However, it is not mandatory that you attend the seminar in Abuja. You can go to a neighbouring state and attend it. They'll accept it. You can also go the DNS(Director of Nursing services) office at Area eleven and find out when and where the next MCPDP workshop will hold in Abuja. Goodluck

Thanks for your advice, i do appreciate it. The state board of nursing in Arizona doesn't need your results directly. You need to pass through an evaluation body like WES, CGFNS and Josef Silny. I choose Josef silny because it is $50 lower than the rest and release the result in 5 days and mails it to the board. One of their requirements is that transcripts and license be mailed directly to them. Please do you know the requirements needed from NNMCNs to mail the license?
I guess there are forms you downloaded from their website. print them out and send the one for your sch to the professional institutions you attended so that they can send your transcript to the organization. There ought to be another form licence validation. you will need to take this to Nursing Council Office in Abuja, along with photocopy of your licence, notification of registration, and the required fee. I dont know how much it costs now. It used be 3k per qualification. I believe it is higher now.
Travel / Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by auschris: 9:44pm On Jan 05, 2013
emybaby2:
Yes o, am trying to transfer my transcript for the evaluation body in the USA and i will go to the Nursing headquarters to know the reguirements to transfer the license. I pray God for discipline to be able to read that big Kaplan Nclex book. Nigerians do not fail unless they are lukewarm or not interested about it.
I advise that you contact the board of nursing in the US state you intend to work to find out their requirements for becoming an RN. Most US states require certificate evaluation service(CES) from CGFNS. Some states do not require any CGFNS service e.g. California. ur transcripts can be sent directly to them after downloading the application forms from their website.
Sending ur transcripts does you no good if ur intention is to become an RN in the US. However, if u intend to further ur studies, then it may be helpful. Like I said earlier, find out the requirements of the state you intend to work in.
As for NCLEX, there isn't much to it if you prepare well. Answer as many questions as possible from any NCLEX study guide you can lay your hands on e.g. Mosby, lippincott, Saunders etc. You will find the CD ROM that comes with 11th and 12th editions of Brunner and Suddarth's very helpful. It has about 3500 NCLEX-style questions, answers and rationale. I used it when I was preparing for CGFNS exams.
It appears you leave in Abuja. Was that where you trained?
Once again, congrats and success in your future pursuits

emybaby2: Hurray, i've been given my visa today, am so happy. I woke up early and arrived the place and we were checked in by 6:30am. Passed through the security check and got in. We did the documentation i.e gave my original and photocopied documents. I forgot to include 2 photocopied marriage certificate rather it was one and they wrote it down in my form that one certificate is out. That was the only error i made though i was nervous. Then we waited again. When it was time for the interview, window 16 who is a white lady was so tough with so much drilling of people with questions. The first couple for DV there were rejected by her. Up to 5 people went and she either refer them for the next day or told them that they have failed. A particular woman with a family of 5 children and her husband were denied their DV visa. What i come to know is that if you can't answer or defend your education and also know dates of birth, time you went to school etc, then there will be problems. The woman in window 13 was so nice and was handing down visas like water only denied one man. Who wasn't a DV applicant.
After praying that i should not pass through the white woman, believing God for window 13 when i was called to window 16(the white woman.)
CO: Goodmorning, put your fingers on this
(After fingerprint, myself and husband, she told my husband to go and sit.)
co: when did you finish secondary school?(i told here and she count the credits in my paper)
co: what was your favourite subject in secondary school
me: English
co: give me details of what you learned in English literature( i explained)
co: you are a registered nurse, give me the details of your nursing practise(i did)
co:if a patient is sick, how do you manage the patient(i explained)
co: let me see your wedding photos(i flipped open the album for her and she saw the pictures of my bridesmaid and stoped to ask who they were)
co: where did you meet your husband
me: in the church
co: which church did you marry(told her)
co: when did you marry(told her)
co: did you go to church last week
me: yes i did
co: i will give you a visa and you will get it next week thursday.
Me: thank you.
That is how i scaled through the woman, looking her straight in the face and God helped me. Pls i like the black woman of window 13, she gave time to people who are nervous to think.
Above all this, all glory belong to my GOD.
Congrats my dear professional colleague. wish you success as you prepare for NCLEX-RN.

Travel / Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by auschris: 8:08am On Jan 01, 2013
KCC will not contact her again
The person should go to website in her notification letter, download the appropriate forms(DSP 122 and DSP 230), fill them meticulously and correctly, and send them back to KCC ASAP(i.e. if she has not done so already).
Then, she has to 'wear' patience as a garment and wait until her case number becomes current(you can post the range of her case number here for members of the forum to give an idea of when she'll be current). In addition, she should also consult the visa bulletin to know when she'll be current.
when her case number becomes current, she'll be sent an email to check for her second notification letter(interview letter). she'll do this using her confirmation number and other details just like she did when she won.
Finally, encourage to join this forum and follow comments and contributions. she will learn a lot here.
mrkels: Abeg have they contacted all the 2013 winners? Some1 I know won and she has been checking her mails everyday but till now nothing. How do they contact someone self? I mean for interviews o.

Ujujoan:

I know you are going through something really difficult and I can't even begin to pretend to understand. But look at the bright side . . . you have a family that absolutely loves you!

Your parents and siblings will ALWAYS be there to help you through it. Some people are not that lucky!

I've seen people with SCA who don't go to school cos their parents don't want to 'waste' money on their education! sad sad

You have a strong support system, please make use of it.

When you feel down, talk to someone, your dad, your mum, siblings e.t.c. Please I beg you, do NOT keep your pains to yourself. It's only eat you even deeper!

Trust me, no matter how sad and sorry you feel, your parents feel even worse . . . . You can help them by sharing your pains and not bearing it all alone!

I can tell you as a mother, that what hurts more than watching your child suffer, is NOT knowing she is suffering! A parent derives joy buy having to share in her child's pain . . . it gives them a sense of fulfillment.

What I'm trying to say with all these my long post is that, don't try to hide your pains from your family. You may think you are 'shielding' them, but you are only hurting them more. Please let them help you.
Seconded. We have to realise that this is difficult thing to. I remember that my sister used to bear pains with a 'smile' on her face and only cries out when it becomes unbearable.its just in the 'nature' of pple with SCD to bottle their pains. They do not want to be seen as a burden to others. They hate to be the focus of attention because of their condition

For those of you insinuating that the OP is seeking for pity, you got it wrong. If you have lived with anyone with SCD, you will attest to the fact that they are among the strongest people around. Their threshold for pain is much higher than that of most of us. They only cry out when it becomes unbearable. I have never come across anyone with SCD who refuses to carry out any activity on the pretext of "I am a sickler".
The main purpose of this post is to enlighten us on the agonies of being a sickler. An understanding of these, I believe, will help us in taking appropriate preventive measures.

This is indeed an interesting topic. I'm affected. Two of my siblings went through the same ordeal. It's not an experience you will wish your enemy. I can't forget the sleepless nights occasioned by crisis, the anguished cries, missed days at school, stunted growth, and the 'ever-present' fear of what will happen the next minute.
My advice to intending couple who are both AS is that they should reconsider their decisions before they delve into the abyss of guilt that accompanies the presence of a child with SCD in the family. There's more to marriage than love.
However, if you are SS, you can marry an AA.(my sister with SS is happily married and has been crisis-free for a long time. all thanks to God)
Thanks @OP for bringing this issue to the front burner. I pray that God sustains you.

I totally agree with you that no info is a WASTE but when a bunch of info is pooled together, it will be more accessible.
If I may ask, what purpose will the DV 2014 preparatory thread serve if it still open after Nov 3.?

The last time I visited dv2013 forum, I was so mad as they completely deviated from the aim of the forum to other things as insuslts and stuff. That said, I think we should maintain this thread for those truly hungry for info to come feed themselves and get informed.
It is only a suggestion. I'm not stuck on it, though. The fact that a thread is closed those not mean it will disappear completely(the only thing is that people can no longer post comments on it). It will still there for reference purposes.
