Traffic at Fadeyi area of Ikorodu Road (Inbound Ojuelegba) as a Mack truck vied off its lane and crushed a Toyota Highlander on the opposite lane. Eye witnesses claimed the truck which was descending the Fadeyi Bridge lost control as it tried to avoid a LAWMA (Lagos State Waste Management Authority) truck which was making a U-Turn on the expressway.

Thank God no life was lost as the military man who was driving the Highlander didn't even have a scratch.

Road Safety and Police, where are you at? When this container truck was first spotted on Apapa-Oshodi expressway in Lagos, I was surprised but certain it won't get to its destination as the vehicle will be impounded by the Law Enforcement Agents.

However, I was shocked when the same truck was spotted on the same road two weeks after and it was still tilted.

This 2016 Lexus LX570 which cost about N50 Million in Nigeria was seen cruising on the BRT lane on Ikorodu Road. The surprising thing was all the LASTMA officials on the long stretch of the road pretended like they didn't see the vehicle as it approached them.

Would their reaction have been the same if it were a jalopy car?

There was terrible traffic at Tin-Can Apapa due to an oil tanker that fell close to BUA Sugar factory, Apapa, Lagos today. An overloaded container truck also fell at Iyana-Iba bus stop, Lasu, Ojo. Freeze of Cool FM revealed that the drunk driver crashed his employer's black Mercedes-Benz SUV into 4 parked cars at 1004 apartments, Victoria Island this morning.

The Lagos Bus Rapid Transit is also known as Lagos BRT. It was launched in March 2008 and it is operated by LAMATA (Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority).

Advantages:

1) It is Cheaper: Ikorodu to mile 12 is N70 by BRT while smaller buses charge N100 or more.

2) Less travel time: With BRT, it usually takes a shorter period of time to travel from point A to B especially during rush hours. Thanks to the dedicated BRT lanes.

3) Job creation: From drivers to repair technicians and from cleaners to ticketing staff, the BRT system is contributing its own quota towards the reduction of unemployment in Lagos State and Nigeria.

4) Physical activity: Many Lagosians saw this point as a disadvantage when we sampled their opinion on the subject. However, we think standing inside the buses or walking to the designated and farther BRT bus stops have more advantages as walking is one of the best form of exercise for a healthy lifestyle. This is one of the reasons you hardly see overweight and obese people on the streets of London and New York City.

5) Safety and comfort: BRT is obviously safer to ride in compared to the Danfo buses. It is also safer than some private vehicles like the Kia Picanto. The air-conditioned buses also provide its occupants with comfortable seats.

Disadvantages:

1) Global warming: Ideally, this is a major advantage of BRT in other countries, as reduction in the number of cars on the road leads to reduced carbon monoxide emission. However, it is the other way round in Lagos as BRT buses are currently having a smoke emission competition with container trucks. It is very surprising that Nigeria is yet to implement a law against emission which has caused rivers to start drying up in the country.

2) Rough drivers: It is disheartening that the BRT drivers think they have 100% right of way at all times, therefore, they use their big and scary buses to intimidate other drivers on the road.

3) Increased traffic for motorists: The introduction of the BRT led to an instant increase in traffic congestion on several major roads because a lane was converted to accommodate the Government operated buses. Lagosians have adjusted to this issue over time.

4) No refund: If you use the last money on you to board a BRT bus and it breaks down midway, OYO is your case. You are on your own as there is no refund system in place. In some cases, you may be fortunate to get another BRT to join.

5) Others: Occasional problems with tap in – tap out machine and difficulty to reverse when another bus breaks down ahead.

I remember a friend got a $150 (N63,000) ticket in The United States because he did not park properly in the parking lot.

What penalty do you think these drivers deserve especially the BMW 3 Series driver who took the space of 2 cars as well as the Toyota Avalon and Honda Accord drivers who parked on the driveway where cars are meant to drive through at Ikeja Mall?

Maido who is an artist took to his Instagram page to share his brutal experience with Nigerian policemen. He alleged, that he was attacked because he refused to surrender his phone. He wrote;

"Yesterday was the worst day of my life, infact I almost lost it. At about 7pm I was driving along lagos-Ibadan express way with a friend, when we noticed a car closing up on ours and someone waving to us, asking us to stop.

After I took sometime to observe I suspected it was the police and I pulled over. Actually they weren't even in a police vehicle so I couldn't have noticed early enough. They were armed, one of them furiously came to me shouting. He said they have been trying to stop me or chasing me for a while. I was suprised because I did not notice at all.

There were three of them, only one was on uniform. They immediately started cursing and using vulgar words on us, they called us criminals for no reason, after so much interrogation they decided to do a search on the vehicle, I consented to that, and when they could not find anything incriminating in the car they demanded to search our phones.

I refused them checking my phone because they had already seized my friend's phone for no reason, I simply tried to make them understand that my phone is my private property but instead of hearing me out, they resorted to physical assault. They hit me with all sort of objects including their guns, I had to do my best to leave the scene for my dear life.

I was terribly injured over a phone that wasn't worth it at all, I equally lost my wrist watch. The question is, what wrong have I done by being a regular Nigerian young boy into entertainment.
