Rolls Royce has announced the Rolls Royce Dawn 2017 Couture collection. This will definitely appeal to the fashion conscious and wealthy Nigerians who want to be on the fashion runway in their mobile $400,000 (N260 million landing cost). Of course, the car is only available in Andalucian White model.

Design Director, Giles Taylor picked a team of talented designers from the world of fashion to work on this car. The result is a machine with an interior that features unusual textures and fine silks on the doors. The exterior also combines a neutral Andalucian White paint with a choice of three bright folding roof colors: Mugello Red, Cobalto Blue and Mandarin.

The dashboard is finished in Piano White with aluminium particles that gives the Rolls Royce Dawn a silk-like appearance. Moreover, the lacquering process alone takes nine days. A bespoke clock also sits in the centre of the dash, styled to imitate metallic fabrics.

Some of the guys that made this exceptional Rolls Royce Dawn a reality are:. Cherica Haye, a textile specialist from the Royal College of Art and leather expert Michelle Lusby, who previously worked at Mulberry.

Double check before you buy that Corolla and Yaris. This is due to recent Toyota recall which has affected 5.8 million cars. Toyota is recalling these cars due to possible fault in the airbags made by Takata. Furthermore, most of the affected cars were sold in Japan, China and Europe.

The recall statistics is as follows: 1.47 million airbags in cars sold in Europe, 1.16 million in Japan, 820,000 in China and 2.35 million in other regions excluding the US. The affected cars are May 2000 to November 2001 production batch as well as April 2006 to December 2014.

As a result of this recall, total Takata recall in Toyota cars is now 23.1 million. However, Auto industry total Takata recall is expected to exceed 100 million cars as 12 car makers are currently affected. US regulators believe the volatile chemical used in the inflators, ammonium nitrate, can cause airbags to explode due to excessive force.

Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Ford have confirmed that they will stop using Takata airbags containing ammonium nitrate in future models.

Register with a car auction website:

Online car auction is the safest and most reliable way to buy your car across the Atlantic especially when you do not have a well trusted ally over there. Don't make the mistake of sending your money to any dealership. Most importantly, never send your money to family and friends that are not well trusted as they may use your money to pay rent. Some of these auction companies offer free registration while others charge $200 (N91,000) initial registration as well as annual subscription. A few of these online car auction sites are copart.com, auctionexport.com, iaai.com etc. You will also need to submit your identification card as well as other required documents in order to increase your bidding eligibility.

Learn and understand the common terms used in car auction:

This is very important as the technical terms are tools you require to make purchase decisions. You need to know the meaning of salvage title, clean title, buy it now, pure sale, enhanced vehicle, engine start program, run and drive etc. You also need a basic idea of the location of the states in USA so your story won't be like that of a guy who bought a car in Oregon State thinking the car was in Orlando, Florida. At this point, you really need to shine your eyes. This is where most people make mistakes as they fall in love with a car that looks spotless in picture. Thereby ignoring the fact that the vehicle narration states that it has a front end accident. You may not see the front damage in the picture because the car may have been partially repaired by the insurance company before putting it up for bid. Hence, you have to pay attention to every single detail and don't just look at a car on the surface.

Well, some car dealers in Nigeria don't pay attention to details because they prefer to buy the scrappy accidented cars which are cheaper and they come fix them here. Make sure you do a Vehicle History/VIN check before you proceed to buy the car. You can also engage the service of independent inspectors who would do a thorough inspection of the vehicle on your behalf. This inspection service comes at a cost of about $90.

Buy your car:

Some cars are listed as buy it now which means you can buy them at the displayed price immediately you spot them. However, other cars can only be purchased at a predetermined bid date. So you have to wait for that date and time to join the bid room (See video of Nigerians in the bid room).

Pay for your car:

Bank wire transfer and debit/credit card are the 2 main options you can use to make your payment. The card payment is faster and cheaper, however, you'll be restricted by maximum card limits and declined transactions on most Nigerian cards. Therefore, you are probably left with just the wire transfer. Buy dollar from your Aboki and send through your bank dollar account. All these can be done over the phone and online.

Furthermore, you have to initiate the transfer of the money as soon as possible because you will be charged a penalty of $50 to $100 if they don't get your money within 2-3 business days. Immediately they receive the money, they credit your car auction online account with the same amount. Hence, your payment for the car in processed and voila! the car is yours.

Ship your car from USA:

At this point, you or your shipping agent in USA will arrange a tow truck or flat bed to pick up the car and deliver at the closest US seaport. This cost may be as low as $200 and it may be as high as $1,800 if you buy your car in a state that is far away from the seaports on the east coast.

Note that your car must leave the auction company's compound/yard within 7 days after the bid date. Else, you will start to pay $20 daily for storage charge.

Your shipping agent clears the car through US customs for export. Before, you know it, your car is already on the Atlantic heading to Nigeria. Most people prefer Ro-Ro (Roll on Roll off) shipping method to Container shipping. This is because the container shipping method is a little more expensive. You also have to pair with other people in order to share the container cost. The challenge with the pairing is some of the people you share the container with may delay in presenting their shipping documents or payment for import duty in Nigeria and this may make you incur demmurage at Lagos port.

Clear your car with Nigeria Customs:

You can do this yourself if you have the time and energy to spare. Alternatively, employ the service of a reliable clearing agent who will clear your car within 2-3 days.

The surface duty is 35% of the estimated value of the car. In addition, you will pay surcharge, VAT, shipping and terminal charges as well as other miscellaneous charges. Note that owners of 2016 and 2017 cars with mileage less than 5,000 kilometres will pay surface duty of 70%.

Finally:

It takes an average of 6 weeks to get the car from the auction site to Lagos. I have done it before in 4 weeks but that was just a one-off.

Last week, we got a glimpse of the new Mercedes Benz X Class pickup. Now, the real deal is here. Mercedes Benz has collaborated with Renault-Nissan to develop the truck in an effort to save some cash on Research and Development. Therefore, the pickup is expected to share similar dimensions and design attributes with the current Nissan Navara. Despite that, the styling will lean towards that of current Mercedes Benz vehicles.

The pickup which was unveiled in Stockholm, Sweden has a pretty design. It has a surround taillight, permanent all wheel drive and the large 22-inch wheels are amazing.

The interior looks more like that of a luxury car than that of a pickup truck. The Mercedes Benz X Class pickup will also be packed with many tech features. The final production model of this concept is expected to go on sale in 2017.

Mercedes Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche said, “With the X-Class, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio... Our target is to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The pick-up will set new standards in a growing segment.”

A new hummer comeback has been much anticipated and SUV lovers want GM to get back to work. The Hummer brand failed because of the 2008 US economic meltdown and subprime lending saga. Mat Jones who is an Australian surfer has claimed that his exploding iPhone 7 damaged his car. He said he returned from a surfing lesson to see his car’s windows blacked out with smoke. On opening the door, he found his cloths and the interior of his car burnt by fire.

Jones claims the iPhone 7 which he bought a week ago started the fire. He said he found the phone still melting inside the pile of clothes in which he wrapped it.

Apple confirmed to Yahoo News that it is aware of the claim and is investigating the fire. However, they wouldn’t comment further.

This is becoming a trend as Samsung Galaxy Note 7 also made news for overheating and explosion.

Uber has announced "Get a First Bank loan to buy a car for your Uber business". In this initiative, First Bank will provide low-interest loans to Uber driver-partners depending on their driving performance record. This will enable them purchase used cars for their Uber ride sharing business.

According to Ebi Atawodi, General Manager for Uber in Nigeria, the used vehicle finance offering is the first of its kind to be made available to Uber driver-partners in the country. This is in keeping with Uber’s stated commitment to constantly develop forward-thinking partnerships that benefit its driver-partners. The loan will be at a competitive interest rate of 20% per annum over a 24 month repayment period.

“We are absolutely committed to making it as easy as possible for our driver-partners to start and maintain their own successful and profitable businesses,” Atawodi explains. “And these used vehicle finance options make it possible for those with a demonstrable performance commitment to build sustainable businesses. Especially without incurring the high costs often associated with new vehicle purchases.”

Tim Mokwa from Florida was heading home from work when a snake popped out from the bonnet of his car . The head of the 6-foot snake can be seen in this picture.

"This guy decides to pop his head out from under the hood. And tried to come in the window. About a 6 footer," he wrote on Facebook. "That's only a little more than half of him in video." Mokwa said he doesn't know what ultimately became of the snake.

Abhishek Choubey is an 18 year old from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh in India. He has taken everyone aback by using his scapula (shoulder blades) to pull two cars in a bid to break a world record.

According to Abhishek Choubey, he has been pulling weights with his shoulder blades since he was 8 and hopes he is recognized for his talents.

His dad, Avdesh Kumar Choubey, made him a piece of wood that fits into his shoulder. So he'll attach a tow-rope to it.

He explained:
“I started pulling chairs and tables with my shoulder blades when I was eight. Eventually, I realised there are many people who can pull heavy vehicles with ears and even hair, but I am the only one who can pull two cars at a time with my shoulder blades. I used to get hooks from the market but they didn’t fit between my shoulder blades. My dad was happy with my stunts and designed a special hook for me as a gift.”

“Not everyone can do this," Abhishek Choubey said. "My friend had to see a doctor after he attempted to pull a small chair. It needs a proper exercise. I exercise everyday for at least an hour.”

His Proud dad Avdesh is happy to see his son getting famous. He explained:
“I wish he gets into the Guinness Book of World Records. I am also proud of him. Furthermore, I want him to continue his stunts and we also make sure he continues his studies. If he wishes to pull an airplane, we’d always support him. We know it’s not dangerous. We have consulted the doctors as well.”

His mum, Saroj Choubey also revealed she's proud of her son: “My son is making his name to the world record and that makes me extremely happy and proud."

A 28 year old Nigerian in Bengaluru, India has been held for online car sale fraud.

The suspect, Christian, was on the run after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bengaluru registered a case against him in September 2015. According to the police, Christian, who had come to Bengaluru on student visa would shoot pictures of cars parked in front of business establishments and showrooms. These cars cost between Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh (6.7 million and 10 million Naira). He then posts these images on an online classifieds platform, by quoting the price ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh (N2 million to N3.4 million) .

An industrialist had parked his car at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) parking lot before going abroad. Christian shot the picture of the car and posted it on OLX offering it for Rs 5 lakh, said the police.

A man contacted Christian wanting to buy the car. Christian claimed he was in Delhi and told him to see the car which he parked at KIA parking lot. Christiana asked him to transfer Rs 5 lakh (N3.4 million) to his account and he would hand over the car once he returned to the city. The man trusted Christian and transferred Rs 5 lakh. He later realised that he had fallen for an online car sale fraud.

"Christian switched off his cellphone after he withdrew Rs five lakh. The man approached the Cyber Crime police and lodged a complaint. The police had also received five similar complaints," said a senior CID officer.

The police registered a case against Christian and raided his house at TC Palya in September 2015. He, however, managed to escape. The police recovered a laptop in addition to two mobile phones and five SIM cards from him. The police issued a lookout notice against Christian. When he landed at the Nigeria airport, police arrested and handed him over to the Indian authorities.

He is now awaiting trial.

Honda Goldwing three wheeler bike spotted in Lagos. I am sure someone will say this guy must be the Nigerian Terminator.

The Goldwing was first introduced in 1974 but this particular one seems to be the 2006 model GL1800. It has a 1832 cc, six-cylinder fuel injection engine which produces 118 horsepower. This is an amazing bike as it offers comfort, increased safety and adequate storage space. Therefore, several owners like to use it for long distance ride.

With a fuel tank capacity of 6.6 gallons (25 Litres), its fuel consumption is 55 miles per gallon on the highway and 40 miles per gallon in the city. It also comes with a radio and CD player as well as an MP3 port.

Some of theses bikes come with an airbag while some other come with GPS navigation. It can pass for a mini 2 seater car with all these feature.

The Honda Goldwing has also appeared in various movies like Police Academy 6, Spartan, Déjà Vu and Robocop 3.

After all said and done, the only funny thing about this bike is the look of the rear.

The rapid rate of road accidents in Nigeria nowadays is overwhelming, if you travel interstate often, u go sabi wetin I dey talk. The recurring disaster has resulted in the deaths of many which is really sad as most of our roads are bad and the Government is not doing anything about it for now. I think the best option is to help ourselves.

Six Main Causes Of Road Accidents In Nigeria and Tips To Prevent Them:

1. Over speeding:
This is obviously the major cause of road accidents in Nigeria by a margin. I love driving too, infact I like going fast but the highest I have done with a car is 120km, I only have one life and I don't have a Bentley yet. When you “Over speed”, you’re forcing an engine to go beyond its design limit, and the result is mostly catastrophic. 80% of the cases of road mishaps in Nigeria are as a result of reckless driving and over speeding. Some road users have formed the habit of over speeding each time they are on the road. Some believe in their ability to maneuver their way through difficult situations, while others believe in their vehicles ability to wriggle out of any danger. But these perceptions are not always correct. According to the FRSC, 50% of road crashes in Nigeria are due to over speeding. Motorists should therefore know that speed kills.

Tips: Drive carefully and within reasonable limits.

2. Brake failure:
This is an extremely dangerous occurrence when a vehicle fails to stop after the brake has been applied. This term is familiar with the heavy-duty vehicles, though smaller vehicles are not spared.

Tips: Make sure you carryout routine checks on your vehicles brake system.

3. Bad Weather:
If the weather is bad; especially during a torrential downpour, road accidents may probably happen due to poor visibility and road slipperiness. Rain affects ability to see as well as vehicle traction.

Tips: Don’t ever trust your wipers to do the job. If you happen to be driving and visibility is poor where you have no awareness of cars around you, it is better to park your vehicle till the weather improves. You have got one life, protect it.

4. Bad roads:
The failure of successive governments in Nigeria to fix the death traps called roads in Nigeria has no doubt caused so much pain to temporal and frequent road users. The bad roads across the nation are nothing to write home about. Government at all levels must wake up to their responsibilities to make sure all roads in Nigeria are safe and motor-able. 5. Bad driving habits:
It is important for road users to respect other road users be ensuring their driving is not only for their own safety, but for others. Adhering to all traffic rules and regulations is also very important for safe driving. Indeed, road users’ behaviour has to change dramatically. Ignorance, lack of information and neglect of road safety in Nigeria laws has now made many preventable road carnages appear normal.

Tips: You are not on a race track and you are not the only one on the road, drive responsibly.

6. Fatigue:
This is mostly common among commercial drivers and drivers of Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and government officials. These drivers are usually over worked and hardly observe rest.

Tips:It is important for principals of such drivers to ensure that they observe maximum rest always, so that they can be refreshed and geared up for the next journey. No one can cheat nature.

I was having a chat with this lady who was so excited for being able to attain a maximum speed of 60 kph (kilometres per hour) on the highway. I could not hold back my laughter as she almost fainted when I told her I attained a maximum speed of 200 kph back in the days.

I also showed her this video shot from a friend who turbo-ed his 2013 Benz ML to 220 kph. I am sure some of us must have exceeded this speed.

Today is World Teachers' Day and Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose was seen celebrating with teachers in his State. He also gave brand new Kia Rio cars to the best primary and secondary school teachers in the state. The event took place at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti as Jeje Thompson from Ara Comprehensive High School and Mrs Adesina Foluke Bosede won the awards.

Lere Olayinka who is the Special Adviser on Public Communications & New Media to Fayose said, the governor also donated a sum of N50m to teachers for making the state proud in the recently concluded SSCE and NECO examinations.
