Mercedes Benz recalled the 2017 E-Class because the engine could go off if you carry passengers in the backseat. The error is a fuel pump wiring problem which makes the engine stall if pressure is put on the backseat.

Furthermore, the recall is said to affect 6,858 of the E300 and E300 4MATIC sedans built from Dec. 10, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

Since the wiring is mounted underneath the rear seat, compressing the seat can cut off the fuel pump, fuel-tank pressure sensor and fuel gauge—or all three, according to Car & Driver—and cause the engine to cut off as well. So, all you have to do is sit the wrong way to switch off the car from the backseat.

I still have a vivid picture of how excited I was when the keys of my first car was handed over to me. I did not want to miss the 2003 Nissan Maxima SE for any reason because it was pretty clean. In addition, it came with zenon headlights, 3.5 litre V6 engine and the mileage was below 100,000 miles. I am sure you understand my excitement because you probably felt the same.

Now, the question is, was this excitement short-lived or long-lived?

As a young banker who had a car loan limit of N800,000 back in year 2009, I wanted more than a Toyota Camry Pencil light. I got additional loan from my elder brother; became the owner of a car I would love for only 7months.

It was an excellent ride from day one. However, the beauty that was in the eyes of the beholder faded sharp sharp when the problems started to trickle in. The first was the power steering problem, then the car started jerking, fuel pump went bad, the suspensions and shock absorbers went bad again after changing them like 2 months earlier... OMG!

After spending most of my life savings on the car, I realised my mechanic was also a problem. So, I went to cry at Alliance Autos in Victoria Island as they were the only Nissan dealership I knew. Luckily, they referred me to an affordable Nissan specialist around Gbagada.

Eventually, the Prodigal Car/Agbanó was up and running withing 3 days. To prevent further spending, I cut my losses, sold the car for N650k and ported to Toyota Camry Big Daddy.

Moral of the story: Do a research on what it takes to maintain that car before you pay for it.

These are some of the driving offences in Lagos and their penalties. Some of laws are over-implemented while some are under-implemented. What ever the case may be, it is good to be aware of the following laws:

1) Failure to stop for pedestrians at Zebra crossing: The fine is N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. Your vehicle will also be impounded.
2) Driving on BRT lane: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. Alternatively, the driver may be sentenced to 3 years imprisonment or both.
3) Exceeding prescribed speed limit: N100,000 fine or 1 year imprisonment or both fine and imprisonment.
4) Wrongful overtaking: N100,000 fine.
5) Illegal U-turns: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. Driver most also undergo a mandatory training before he/she can drive again.
6) Bullion van driving in a wrong direction: Forfeiture of vehicle and 3 years imprisonment.
7) Making phone calls while driving: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders.
Motorist resisting arrest: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders.

The Swiss police has seized supercars worth $8 million (N3.8 million) from Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue. Mangue is the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea as well as the son of the Country's president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

The following cars were seized after a raid in Geneva: A Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg One:1 and a Lamborghini Veneno Roadster.

The amazing thing is, this is not the first time Mangue's supercars have been seized. In 2011, the French police seized 11 of his cars in Paris, including two Veyrons, a Maserati MC12, a Porsche Carrera GT, a Ferrari Enzo, a Maybach, a Rolls-Royce Phantom and a Ferrari 599 GTO. That is an estimated $4.1 million in cars. Later on in 2012, his Parisian mansion was seized by police as well.

This is due to a corruption investigation which claims his father has enriched himself with his country's oil money.

Julius Berger Plc is currently handling the reconstruction of the Lagos-Sagamu Axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. And they have announced the temporary closure of a five kilometre stretch of the Lagos bound traffic around Sagamu Inter-Change.

The period of the closure is from Thursday 03 to Saturday 12 November, 2016. The closure would be effected from 11 am on Thursday 03 November, 2016. The Federal Road Safety Corps has also confirmed that it has put in place traffic control measures to manage the traffic situation during the temporary closure.

The Corps will also ensure proper signages are in place to guide all road users. All users of the road during the period of temporary closure are advised to obey the directional signs and comply with the traffic rules and regulations.

The FRSC has said it will not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions on violators.

Why is it that some Government agencies in this Nigeria like to bring more hardship to Nigerians that already have too much to battle with?

This new strategy used by the Nigeria Police and Road Safety officials to exploit car owners is simply wicked.

My brother bought and registered his car 2 weeks ago. While moving the car to Port-Harcourt on Sunday, a police pick up overtook and blocked them as they were in traffic. The policemen asked them to park claiming that they got an intel (like Jack Bauer) that their car was suspicious.

After seeing that all the papers were complete, they asked for his phone and sent the "verifyplateno" code to 33324. In a moment, they got this response.. "Number Plate is valid but yet to be assigned to any vehicle". The policemen smiled and said to themselves "SEE MEAT".

You won't believe these policemen said they were going to the police station because they were armed robbers. But little did they know that my brother who works with an oil and gas company, knew his onions. After a short argument, they calmed down to listen to the sense in what my brother was saying.

He explained to them that plate numbers are registered into State Government Database through AutoReg. Furthermore, the Road Safety is meant to synchronise these information to their www.nvisng.org portal through a common platform. This is meant to be done automatically or as quickly as possible. However, it may take the Road Safety 6 months, that's if they ever synchronise the data.

This left the policemen dumbfounded and they quickly said "Bros they go they go, you too sabi something"

The Senate allege to have discovered cargoes worth billions of Naira at the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal in Lagos. These cargoes have been stored by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for more than 10 years. This was disclosed in Abuja on Tuesday by Senator Hope Uzodinma who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff.

According to him, the containers which were moved to decongest the Apapa port, contained valuables such as cars, transformers and electronics.

“To see these number of containers with very valuable items in our various sea ports and airports, not claimed for a period of over 10 years, is to say the least very disappointing".

“This shows to some extent a sign of irresponsibility on the side of the authority. We are going to discuss with the hierarchy of the service".

“We will ensure that the Act that established the Nigeria Customs Service, which has also prescribed a procedure for disposal of overtime goods and seized cargoes, is respected and complied with".

“The only way to dispose these items or overtime cargoes is copiously captured in the Act and it is not going to be subjected to any further negotiation".

“Whatever that is defined in the Act is what should be done. Our responsibility as lawmakers who made the law is to ensure that it is followed forthwith’’.

“We are talking of economic recession in the country but you can see how many hundreds of billions of items of value that are lying at the Ikorodu Terminal for the past 10 years".

“What we saw at Volkswagen of Nigeria, Idiroko and Seme are not pleasant at all and now we are making another shocking discovery".

“Government must begin to do things differently if we must get out of this recession’’.

“Senate has woken up and this discovery is a product of our oversight activities".

“When we show commitment, when we show patriotism, when we understand the meaning and relevance of national interest, our country will be better for it".

“We cannot continue to rely on oil revenue. God has endowed this country with enormous national resources and it is left for us to manage it well and we don’t have a choice".

Balwinder Sahni buys vehicle licence plate numbers for an estimated $9 million (N4,230,000,000). As a result of this, the world is asking if this is the most expensive plate number purchase ever.

According to CNN Money Sahni bought the licence plate bearing number "5" at a government bid earlier this month. This came after making a similar purchase in 2015.

The single-digit plates are for two of his six Rolls Royce cars.

Dear readers, please take your time to read this carefully. This is a TRUE LIFE STORY that happened to one of my co-staff last week in Ilorin, Kwara State. If you are in a taxi and a stranger is trying to open a bottle water and the water mistakenly spill on you, do not allow the person use either white handkerchief or any kind of cloth to clean your body.

The son of my co-staff was in a taxi on Thursday 13th Oct 2016, and a stranger inside the same taxi was trying to open a bottle water and the water mistakenly spilled on him. The stranger now used a white handkerchief to wipe the water that spilled on him and he became unconscious. Only for him to wake up in an unknown building where human parts are sold.

After spending some days there and they discovered he wasn't useful to them, they dumped him inside a deep bush to find his way. After wandering for hours, he located a main road only to discover that he was already in Ede, Osun State. He finally returned home on Sunday. The victim recounted his ordeal with these ritualists, sighting how human parts are being sold like normal meat.

Please let's be watchful and prayerful that we shall never be their victims in the mighty name of God (Amen). Please share till it gets to as many people as possible to save lives.

A population census of bullet proof cars will definitely reveal that Nigeria has one of the highest within its borders. With over 110,000 bullet proof cars in use worldwide, our politicians and business executives have put Nigeria on the map of top markets for car armouring companies. These companies also got tonnes of demand from Nigerian before the 2015 election.

These cars are popular in Nigeria but many of us don't recognise them. Some people don't recognise them because the makers usually leave the external appearance unchanged. This is however a security measure which makes the cars look as inconspicuous as possible. I always wonder when people ask me "how did you know that's a bullet proof car"? And I am like, can't you see it written all over the ride?

See some clues below...

Windscreen and windows:

In bulletproofing, the vehicle glass is referred to as “transparent armor.” It is a sandwich of polycarbonate (plastic) and leaded glass. This thick layered glass is the most obvious part that reveals the identity of bullet proof cars. Similarly, see pictures in this post.. and the windscreen and window edges will give you a clearer understanding of what the glass looks like. Can you now see the thick dark edges?

Run flat tyres:

These tyres provide the ability to keep driving even if the tyres have been shot. Run flat tyres which is also used by conventional cars can help you travel an additional 100 kilometres before replacement. These tyres can be identified by their thick sidewalls and additional side bolstering which are wrapped around the tyres. The bolstering prevents the wheels from touching the ground when the tyres go flat.

Up-close, you'll also see the RSC inscription on the car tyres. The RSC means Run-flat System Component. Furthermore, you could see other codes like SSR (Self Supporting Run Flat), EMT (ExtendedMobility Tyre), ZP (Zero Pressure), DSST (Dunlop Self Supporting Tyre) etc.. depending on the tyres that comes with the car. Note that some conventional cars also come with run flat tyres.

Suspension:

If you are a fan of Alex Mahone in Prison Break, I am sure you'll remember how he was able to identify the bullet proof Limo amongst other Limos. A car that is carrying additional weight of 550 kg to 1,000 kg can be singled out if you have those eyes like Inspired Autos and Gidicars. This is due to the fact that some of the bullet proof cars may ride slightly lower and heavier than conventional cars despite their enhanced suspensions.

Non operational windows:

To offer maximum protection, bullet proof car manufacturers recommend the non operational windows. So if you see the driver of that luxury ride who has to open the door of the car to get that document or to pay his fee at lekki toll gate, that ride is probably armoured. However, some still come with the rolling windows despite the fact that it compromises protection.

Gunports:

This is an opening through which a gun can be fired. This feature is found in a few privately owned amoured cars. Nevertheless, it is common in bullion vans and those Rapid Response trucks.

Finally, all these features and many more like the explosion-resistant fuel tank, comes at an average additional cost of $100,000 (N47 Million). This N47 Million excludes the purchase cost of the vehicle.
