Gbadamosi Adegoke Adelabu was a prominent Oyo politician. He was also a key participant in pre-independence southwest politics.

He was born on 3 September 1915.

He was a self-made man born into a humble family but became an influential figure in Nigerian politics.

He was Nigeria's Minister of Natural Resources and Social Services from January 1955 to January 1956 and was later the opposition leader in the Western Regional Assembly until his death in 1958.

Adelabu was a self-described egotist who believed in the merits of radical nationalism, national unity and radical socialist ideology.

Adegoke Adelabu is often mentioned in Yorùbá and Nigerian history as the author of that expression: "penkelemesi", a Yorubanisation of the phrase, "peculiar mess" which Adelabu, known for his deep knowledge of English, had used on an occasion to describe the opposition in the Western Region House of Assembly. Not understanding what he meant, the non-literate section of his audience translated the phrase into vernacular as "penkelemesi".

On 25 March 1958, Adelabu died in a car accident on mile 51 Lagos–Ibadan Expressway close to Shagamu.

He was returning from Lagos along with a Syrian businessman when their car hit an oncoming vehicle.

The accident caused riots in Ibadan as he was to be the next Premier of the Western Region.

ICPC, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, has recovered and sealed items worth N117 million from Utazi Chukwuka, a senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District.

The ICPC made the recovery through its Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) initiative.

The latest recovery was disclosed on Sunday in a statement signed by ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa.

In the statement, Okoduwa said that the recovered items traced to Mr Chukwuka, including 228 motorcycles, 51 tricycles, 203 grinding machines, and 5 transformers.

Mr Chukwuka was chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes between 2015-2019. The ICPC said he stashed the items in his hometown compound in Mkpologu town of Uzo-Nwani Local Government Area.

The Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) initiative is currently on a project to recover items from public officers who had failed at properly using the funds for the projects.

On Friday, there was a reported of how the commission announced that it recovered constituency projects items from two former senators; Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom northwest) and Isa Misau (Bauchi Central Senatorial District), through the CPTG team.

Sea horse Industries Limited, the producer of automobile lubricant, Sea Horse Lubricant, recently rewarded outstanding students of Community Secondary School, Ihembosi, in Anambra state with cash awards.

The gesture, which is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, was initiated by the Chairman of the company, HRM Dr Ebuka J. Onunkwo.

Also rewarded at the event were teachers who have demonstrated exemplary performance and contribution to the academic progress of students in the school. The immediate past Principal of the school was a beneficiary of an award of N150, 000.

This particular gesture has increased student enrollment into the school from 190 to 700 students today.

It is not uncommon to find vehicle owners driving around with quite a mess on the dashboards or the rear end of their vehicle interior.

The assorted items that constitute the mess are sometimes wide-ranging, some of them a bit bizarre. It sometimes leaves one wondering if the vehicles also double as an apartment for the vehicle owners or driver.

Altogether, a disorderly and clustered dashboards or the rear end of the car’s interior often suggest a disorganized owner.

Granted, these parts of the vehicle are designed to hold items. However, the chaotic arrangement of items on them tends to suggest an uncoordinated personality of the owners or users of the vehicles.

Theophilus Owolabi Shobowale Benson, famously known as T.O.S. Benson, was a prominent lawyer and politician in the period leading up to Nigerian independence in 1960.

He was a key member of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC).

In 1960, when Nigeria gained independence, he was appointed as the Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Culture.

The popular socialite was imprisoned for several months after the first military coup of  15 January 1966. He was released on 2 August of the same year.

Benson, a native of Ikorodu, Lagos state, later became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He also held the title of Baba Oba of Lagos.

His younger brother was the late popular musician Bobby Benson.

T.O.S. Benson died on 13 February 2008 at the age of 90 at his home in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Prof. Okoronkwo Kesandu Ogan was the first Nigerian to qualify as an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist.

He was also the pioneer President of The Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria, an organization that was formed in Lagos in 1965.

In 1975, he was appointed as the Chairman, Federal Public Service Commission.

Prof. Ogan, born in 1919, was trained in West London Medical School (1950-52), University of London Medical School (1952-54; 1956-58).

The late Prof. Okoronkwo Ogan was from Bende Local Government Area of Imo state.

The Kogi State Internal Revenue Services recently took delivery of some Innoson brand of vehicles.

Ten units of Innoson vehicles were delivered to the agency in charge of collecting revenue for the Kogi State government.

The vehicles were acquired as part of the effort to expand the operations of the services in the state.

Innoson brand of vehicles is manufactured by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM). IVM is a  Nigerian automobile and bus manufacturing company. It was founded by Innocent Chukwuma and runs a plant in Nnewi in the state of Anambra

Early this morning, a containerized truck fell as it descended from the Iponri bridge, inward Alaka, Surulere.

The fallen truck caused a huge backlog of vehicular traffic, as it significantly blocked access on the affected lane on the bridge.

The hardworking personnel of LASTMA and the traffic arm of the Nigeria Police were on ground to manage the traffic situation.

At the time of going to press, heavy-lifting equipment of the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) were being still being expected, in order to recover the fallen truck from the scene.

Earlier today, some students of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijegun in Ogun state reacted to an alleged chase of some students by SARS officials.

The students were captured destroying a car believed to belong to the SARS men.

The car was later set ablaze.

This photo of a Volkswagen Jetta driving on three wheels was captured on the Lagos-Abeokuta road in Lagos.

According to a Facebook user, Charles Monwuba, who captured and posted the photo, for a car that has one of its tyres missing, the car was driving quite fast.

According to some reactions to the post, cars driving on three wheels are not an uncommon sight at the Lagos-Sango-Owode-Idiroko-Paapa-Ilaro roads. These are routes commonly plied by smugglers.


Is this not the height of lawlessness on our roads?

About this time last year, the former Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, unveiled the Nigeria Air - a national air carrier - at a press conference during the Farnborough Air Show in London.

Sirika unveiled the name and logo of the carrier during the show.

According to him, the Buhari-led government had been in talks with aircraft providers ahead of the take-off of the project.

“We’ve been talking to Airbus and Boeing (and they’re present at this event) regarding the aircraft for and we will be making announcements very soon. We are currently negotiating,” he had said.

Sirika said the Federal Government had learnt a lot of lessons from the experience of the defunct Nigeria Airways and was now determined not to repeat the mistakes that led to its demise.

He also announced that the Federal Government has selected 81 routes for the commencement of operation of Nigeria Air.

However, on September 19, 2018, the Nigerian government announced the immediate suspension of its widely publicized national carrier.

The Minister via a Twitter post made the announcement.

It was learnt that the suspension was made because the Economic Management Team (EMT) did not approve it when it launched.

The EMT is chaired by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

About N1.2Billion had already been spent on the branding and launch of the Air Nigeria project.

The biggest park of Nigeria’s foremost commercial transport companies - Peace Mass Transit (PMT) – has been re-opened.

The park located at Control Post, World Bank Road, Owerri, Imo state, was shut down during the administration of Rochas Okorocha.

According to sources, the closure of the park was a fallout from a squabble between former Governor Okorocha and the Chairman of Peace Mass Transit.

The park was shut down all through the duration of Okorocha’s second term in office.

Last Monday, the park was re-opened amidst cheers and jubilation.

Uche Onyeagucha - the SSG to the Imo State Governor, graced the re-opening ceremony.

The Imo State Government -led by Rochas Okorocha -  through the Environmental Transportation Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) and Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) enforced the shutdown of the park.

Peace Mass Transit (PMT) has operational depots in over 65 locations across the federation.

The company commenced operations over two decades ago.

Yesterday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor, promised to provide Lagosians with alternatives to road transportation.

He also said that these alternatives would be made to be efficient and safe for Lagosians and those who choose to visit the state.

In a statement at the 4th Lagos Traffic Radio Lecture Series, Sanwo-Olu said the government has identified the need for intermodal transport to resolve gridlock, adding that that was why the blue line was initiated and BRT lanes constructed.

He noted that the water transport sector is grossly underutilised in terms of harnessing its economic potential.

According to him, “the current traffic situation indicates that 95 per cent of transportation is done by road in our state of over 22 million people, with about 25 per cent of the landmass consisting of waterways.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, at the event with the theme: ‘Lagos beyond road: the intermodal transport option’.

The event had in attendance, the Minister for Roads, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola, former, Speaker, Lagos State House Of Assembly and National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Managing Director, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, etc.

A few days ago, a container truck fell at Suru-Alaba, outward Mile 2, along the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

The truck, laden with a 20-feet container, lost balance and fell while attempting to reverse into a pothole.

No life was lost in the accident.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency‘s response unit was available with their heavy-duty equipment (crane) to recover the fallen truck.

The Tiger Avon is a British kit car. It is manufactured by Tiger Racing, a company that was formed in 1989 and that specializes in racing cars.

The Tiger Avon can be fitted with different engines. However, it usually comes with the Ford Zetec 2.0 litre inline-4 engine which produces 175-hp sending power to the ground through the rear wheels.

With a weight of 595kg, it has an impressive power-to-weight ratio that guarantees outstanding performance on the track. It consists of a steel spaceframe chassis with fully independent suspension and a fibre body.
