Too much of action/horror films. Get back to sleep...only villains die, heroes don't die in films. As we usually say "actor no dey die". |
Daninya11:Etim was as good as they come. He had great skills, ball control, bullet shots and a very good ball juggler. Just like Okocha. I believe his style was more direct and more purposeful than Jay-Jay. But he lacked the discipline to manage the little success he had. He was treated like a 'god' and compared to Maradona, one of the richest young footballers then...he broke camp rules in the build up to Chile '87 and was shot by armed robbers. He should have been dropped for the world cup, but highly influential people and even ordinary fans rooted for him - that was how good he was. Like Jay-Jay, he was drafted straight into Super Eagles displacing more established stars right after stints in the under 20s. The rest is history. To me, the difference between Jay-Jay and Etim 10 was off-field discipline and success management which separates a successful talent from a not too successful talent. |
Daninya11:I'ld say I became an ardent football follower just around the 1986 world cup. The 1985 tournament came to many as a surprise and due to the fact that it was in far away China, the time difference didn't help either. But the fond memories, the highlights and the final which was beamed live was something to cherish. The likes of Victor Igbinoba (who scored an incredible television goal- NTA sports couldn't stop showing clips of that goal for years after); Jonathan Akpoborie, Captain Nduka Ugbade, Fatai Atere (If I remembered correctly a street was named after him in Lagos) and Goalkeeper Lucky Agbonsebafe? - can't remember the spelling. Some of them progressed to the disastrous under 20 world cup in Chile after so much promises and hypes. Etim 10 Esin, Adeolu Adekola come to mind.... Story for another day. Also worthy of mention was the Canada 1987 team. Though they came second, we stayed up to as early as 2am to watch their matches. The likes of Dimeji Lawal, Phillip Osondu, Peter Ogaba, Angus Ikeji (a very handsome goalkeeper back then), Oladunni Oyekale, Taiwo Eneagwa, Christopher Nwosu, Bawa Abdullahi and Baba Jibrin- a fine defender. |
Daninya11:Seems you didn't watch the 1993 team. The team scored 14 goals in the group matches and conceded none. Australia (2-0), Canada (8-0) and Argentina (4-0). Going on to win all the remaining knock out phases 2-1 each. In all they scored 20 goals conceded 3, an average of 3.3 goals per match. The team was a total team, the best Nigeria ever had in any age group competition, from defence to midfield to attack, a total unit. Strength, speed and skills "all join". No wonder few of them went on to greater heights both at home and abroad. |
The 1993 team was spot on. No wonder the core players in that team also formed the nucleus of players that won the Atlanta Olympic Gold medal. Kanu, Oruma, Babayaro, Oparaku on my mind. You can also say they are successful by the number of them that went on to progress to the Super Eagles and represent the country at the highest level - The World Cup. For the later teams we still waiting. |
May her soul rest in peace. |
redcliff:Hey homie...Why you falling our hands now? Just buy enough chocomilo and mix it with bitter-leaves or better still Alomo bitters. Isn't it for the chocolate to get bitter... I promise you your IQ will hit the rooftop within seconds. ![]() |
At this rate we are going to have very fit men and women that will make our pot-bellied officers envious. Now I will enjoin all fit and aspiring to be fit good citizens of this country to take it a notch higher by walking, jogging and doing cross-country for more noble charity causes and awareness. A lot of money can be raised for various charities and awareness causes - such as fight against breast and ovarian cancer, malaria and hiv awareness, help to orphanages etc - through this! |
rokiatu:Reminds me of a guy who did not report his stolen credit card because it turned out that whoever stole it was spending far less than his wife. Those are the kinda 'billyonaires' this thread is meant for. All I pray for, is that may my hustles bring forth, more than enough money Mah wifey can never finish. Say Amen if you agree. |
Aremu! |
All these agonisingly traumatic experiences/emotional tortures could have been avoided if the parents had taken simple due diligence. Kudos to Nigerians who helped put the heat on the kidnappers. Thanking God for the safety of the kids. People out there thinking of hiring maids should review the link below, if you can't go through the process, then it may as well not worth it hiring a maid to the possible detriment of your loved ones. https://www.nairaland.com/2245140/before-hire-maid |
Solozzo:You said it all. With many stories about abusive maids abound, I believe we men need reorientation about helping out with domestic chores. If you do not allow your wife to be a 'full-time' housewife, if she is contributing her own little way to boost the finances of the family, I see no reasons why we shouldn't help with house chores. Grooming kids and keeping the house the way you want your visitors to see it is no mean feat - a full time job and our women need to be supported. Gone were those days where the alpha macho male crosses legs on the table sipping Gulder while the woman works her socks of cleaning, cooking, taking care of kids; and in the dead of night you still pounce on her like a hungry lion. |
The ministry is surely moving forward... Eko e ma a yoo!!! ![]() |
Mattin:You are absolutely right. A medical is also very very important. You wouldn't want to hire someone with HIV or TB around your kids. |
In PEJ's voice...'they will soon change their name to Ebola!' Little did she know the name is actually being changed to PDP! |

Yes. It cannot be overemphasized. We have to constantly remind parents out there. Raising kids comes with a lot of hard work commitment and responsibilities. We cannot blame those who choose to engage the services of maids, but if one absolutely need to, it is better to get it right 100% since this profession generally has no form of regulation or certification in Nigeria (I may be wrong though). Lots of jobless hawks out there who would do anything to get money including kidnapping innocent children. |
I don't know if this topic has been discussed extensively on this forum before. But a reminder to parents who have hired or about to hire a maid will not be too much. Here is my opinion on the important security steps to take before entrusting your beloved children to that stranger you call maid/nanny. There is nothing wrong in needing a maid if you have the capacity. We cannot rule out the dynamics of big cities and today's economic realities which usually make both parents to work full time in order to provide the best for their children and their own retirement. The nanny profession should be regulated and these nannies could be certified by appropriate regulating body. Even at that the onus is on the parents to make full fledged investigations about the person you are entrusting your lives and the lives of your beloved kids with. There is nothing wrong with getting a nanny online as long as you can take your time to make proper inquiries about the person you are hiring. This should include and not limited to the following: - Get the all the addresses the maid has lived over the last 5-7years and try to make independent enquiries about her in the neighbourhood where she lived. Ask people not only in that house, but few blocks away too. As part of your selection criteria, you can choose from the ones where you can easily verify their addresses. - Get to know the maid's previous employers and their addresses. You will be amazed what you'll find out. This may look tedious, but (heck!) if your kids means the world to you, then you can't be too lazy to go all the length to know about the person you are entrusting their lives with. Finally, take your time, don't be too desperate to get that maid and if you can't do the verification yourself, get someone you really trust their judgement to do it for you. |

After Buhari, we are likely going to be sold the Abdulsalami presidency. |
As the celebration over Buhari's win pan down. I'm taking a reflective look at the political governance of the country as a whole. The centre where power resides is only exclusive for a select few and those anointed by them. Let us focus for now on the hot seat - the president. We know that for other political appointees, it will be very very difficult for us to hear new names that will deviate completely from those political hustlers/jobbers we have heard over the years. Some names are just going to be recurring with the news of CVs being dropped on presidents...though I pray not. Now let us take a reflection of our past Heads of State cum presidents since the post war era and the discovery of oil on a large scale in Nigeria. Obasanjo/Yaradua regime of the late 70's is followed by Shagari's goverment which was terminated by the Buhari regime in the 80's. Then ruled from 1985-1993 followed by a weak interim government enforced on us for a few months knowing that Abacha will take over. Abacha's untimely death lead to the Abdul Salam's brief rule who handed over back to OBJ to continue the stranglehold on the nations political and economic resources in the hands of this caucuses. OBJ then handed over to late Yaradu'a the brother to his former vice, to ensure this ruling caucus is not broken in anyway. Goodluck was never in the scheme of things, but as his name implies was lucky to be the president after Yaradua's unexpected demise. As Jonathan was not their primary choice, these power brokers then packaged Buhari (beer parlour gist, but couldn't be far from truth) one of their own acceptable to majority of Nigerians. Now the question is after Buhari, who will be recycled again for the top job...? Definately IBB won't be acceptable to Nigerians. Could it be Abdulsalami again? Or one of their former military governors? Who do you think will be recycled post Buhari? This is just some random thoughts before apc/pdp goons say op is high on something. Share your permutations. |
PDP's greatest undoing could also attributable to the pubicity given to Buhari. There is nothing like bad publicity. When APC campaigned, they talked about Buhari; When PDP campaigned they talked about Buhari; Thus most electorates have no choice but to have Buhari in their subconscious. Don't publicise your competitors! Do all you can to make yourself the reference point and be in your customers' mind 24/7... |
Fairgodwin:You're welcomed. |
Fairgodwin:When you honestly work hard towards what you believe in and truly love, all things being equal, you must surely get rewarded. Like they say - when God wants to lift you up, he can use any platform/anyone who will go out of their way to help you achieve your dream. Recognize the opportunity and take your chances. |
34. There is nothing like bad publicity (Buhari). When APC campaigned, they talked about Buhari; When PDP campaigned they talked about Buhari; People have no choice but to have Buhari in their subconsciousness. My take on this: Don't publicise your competitors! Do all you can to make yourself the reference point and be in your customers' mind always. |
This is not an opinion to praise or admonish anyone. It is written to inspire all you out there who are 'hustling' for one thing or the other. Surely, success is just around the corner if you are hardworking, steadfast, and keep improvising. More importantly, believe in your values. Believe in what you stand for, believe in your product and be open to criticism, have wise counsel, and be ready for Change. If a 72 year old man can learn new tricks and move with trends, why not we, young entrepreneurs, hustlers, jobseekers etc. Buhari's recent success can be attributed to several factors including but not limited to: 1. Perseverance - It took him 4 attempts (12 years) to reach the promise land. The jackpot may just be one more swing away as he himself almost gave up 4years ago when he said he was contesting no more. 2. Believe - Believe in your product. Believe in what you are selling. The only product I see Buhari selling is his anticorruption slogan, which he hammered on for 12 years before Nigerians could listen. 3. Be Innovative and open to change - Buhari success this time around could also be attributed to his new appeal...kudos to his team! He is well packaged - from his dressing, to the use of social media and emotional appeal (using his wife). His product - campaigns - was no different from his competitors', but he was able to push it better into our faces and our hearts. His main competition performed poorly by reminding the people constantly about the Buhari product rather than theirs. 4. Be Steadfast : Be firm in your purpose, be resolute and pursue your goal like a raging bull. Buhari never compromised his standards - (at least all through the campaign and we wait to see when he and his party actually start their governance). This made him an easy product to sell, and the people in his team have to raise their bar - ship in or ship out. In your business, set a standard, follow through with your goals, values and virtues. 5. Seize the Opportunity: When it is your time to 'blow' you must 'blow'. No 'Jupiter' can stop your shine. Work hard and the opportunities will come with success shining on you. Even the house of the enemies will be divided to pave way for your success and new allies will be formed to lift you up. Be open minded and seize that opportunity when it comes knocking. Other things I could take from this are that do not let your past define who you are, do not let people constantly remind you of your past as long as you are convinced within yourself you are changed person, if your thinking has not change from what I was 20-30 years ago, then you have not grown. Feel free to add yours. |
naptu2:Those two goals top it for me. For the first one...you didn't mention how Siasia controlled and brought the ball down calmly in the air from a Keshi long pass from the defence. That was really sweet! Okwaraji's 1st minute goal against Cameroun was also fantastic. Siasia's goal against Argentina, Amokachi and Finidi's against Greece, Kanu's 2goals against Brazil at Atlanta, Oliseh's screamer against Spain in France 98, then Amuneke's header against Bulgaria at USA 94. So many beautiful goals to freshen the mind. Lastly, an icing on the cake...Nigeria's goal against Tunisia to qualify us for our first world cup. That was a top class Finidi goal. The goals that were not to be : Yekini's volley against Egypt at Tunisia 94 and his scissors kick against Spain at France 98. Sweet memories! |
Nice one. Could go viral. |
He will surely be named Goodluck Buhari. |
This is so uncalled for and very irresponsible. What happens to magnanimity in victory. The north still got a whole lot to learn from the south about accepting defeat and not go about on killing spree like they did in 2011. I wish Nigeria's democratic process continue to grow and we continue to value and respect others irrespective of their choices, decisions or alienation |
Yes, it is highly commendable and statemanly for the sitting president to extend congratulatory message to the president elect especially in a growing democracy like ours. But, after considering the hawkish actions of the sycophants surrounding the president during the journey to this day, I will only take this congratulatory messages hook, line and sinker only on May 29 when he actually hands over. The threat of military takeover, the threats of cessation and the final show of shame today by Oru-woreva with the eyes of the world centred on Nigeria call for serious concerns and vigilance over the coming months to May 29. Though, the president might mean well, we must defend our democracy to the very end...notwithstanding the desperate actions of few political thugs who are not willing to accept defeat. |
