‘movement’. In the

have not heard of MMM, having just emerged
from a cave to
miraculously run into this
article, MMM is a platform
which in summary claims
to operate a mutual aid programme requesting
participants to provide
money to others and
promising returns of
30% of such monies after
30 days. It is a global platform
touted as a Ponzi scheme (as it obviously is) and
reported to be operated
by Sergei Mavrodi, a
Russian jailed in his
home country in the late
1990’s when his earliest schemes ripped Russians
millions of Dollars and led

sort of value. Investing in shares takes
careful thought, analysis,

not expect consistent
returns. By buying
shares, the investor expresses faith in the
vision of the company
and faith in the
management to execute
the vision. It takes
knowledge to avoid serious burns. So NO,
MMM is not comparable to
investing in shares. The issue of focus Entrepreneurs are busy
trying to create and
perfect systems, solve
problems, devise
innovative answers to
challenges. They are bound to look at a get
rich quick scheme as a
mere distraction in terms
of the time and resources
to be expended into
chasing a venture that provides no ultimate
value addition to
themselves or the
society. The moral question If you are sure that a
system is a scam
propped up by the
resources of naïve but
trusting participants
being manipulated by experienced “confidence
men” with an uncanny
understanding of human
greed and a history of
taking advantage of it,
would you still support it with your money? The understanding of
risk Proponents of the
scheme tout the cliché;
“Nothing ventured,
nothing gained” because
it paints the contrarian
picture of a daring risk taker. Entrepreneurs
however understand the
difference between
gambling and
enlightened risk taking.
A gamble is taken without the
understanding or control
of the variables which
determine the desired

Samson Folarin The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two women – one Amadi and Mama Esther – for allegedly abusing a nine-year-old girl, Joy Esemonu,
in the FESTAC Town area of the state. PUNCH Metro gathered that Amadi allegedly poured chemical on Esemonu, which made her sustain injuries in different parts of her body. Our correspondent was told that Esemonu was subsequently
led everyday by the suspect to a pedestrian bridge in the FESTAC area where she was made to beg for alms from passersby. At the end of every begging trip, the two women reportedly shared the money collected. However, a Good Samaritan, who observed the victim’s condition on the bridge, reportedly alerted policemen from the FESTAC division, leading to the arrest of the two women. The matter was subsequently referred to the Office of the Public Defender, which transferred the victim to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters. A social worker who was privy to the case told our correspondent that Mama Esther
was a relation of the victim and had lured her from their village in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He said, “The girl lived in Port Harcourt with her parents. But last year, her mother handed her over to Mama Esther after the latter promised to support the family by taking the girl to Lagos. She said the girl would continue her education when they get to Lagos. “However, when she brought her to Lagos, she decided to hand her over to Amadi, who she owed some money. The woman then decided to use her for begging. “The girl said she noticed that Amadi would make her sleep before pouring a substance suspected to be chemical on her body. By the time she woke up and scratched the spots after feeling some pains, they would become sore. The woman would then bandaged the place and take her out for begging. “She said whenever the injuries heal, she would make her sleep again and pour the chemical on her. The woman started with her bottoms and then her laps. She said such had happened about four different times.” Another source said Mama Esther, in her confession, claimed that she always collected between N2,500 to N3,000 as her share every day. The source said the money the women were making off the victim kept them in the fraudulent business. “The girl said although they lived in a slum in the Oyingbo area, the woman always took her to FESTAC to beg. She said there were other girls in the slum. She could not recall the exact place where her parents lived in Port Harcourt. She mentioned streets like Rumuokoro, Saint Jude and Rumola. She said she attended Saint Jude Academy and was in basic three before she was brought to Lagos. The girl explained that her younger sister, Ebierechi, was with another family. However, the suspect had maintained that they lived under the bridge,” he added. The Director of OPD, Mrs. Salami Olubukola, condemned the action of the women, saying the state would ensure that justice was served. She said, “This is a despicable act and the height of man’s inhumanity to man which must be condemned by all. Lagos State will never condone child abuse and cruelty and we shall go to any length to protect our children from barbaric acts.” The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said, “Investigation reveals that it is their stock in trade.” The NAPTIP Lagos zonal coordinator, Mr. Joseph Famakin, confirmed that the victim was in the agency’s shelter. The NJC should go and sit down. They let themselves down and brought upon themselves the disgrace they are currently going through. The question that boggles the mind about the Nigerian judiciary is that despite that it is common knowledge that the judiciary is one of the most corrupt in the world, no judge has ever been jailed in Nigeria's history.All the NJC has been doing with regards to the discipline of corrupt judges, is to sack them. But the culpable judges go and enjoy their proceeds of corruption and move about freely. Is that the kind of adjudication they as judges give to common men? Are judges any more human than the rest of us? One thing is certain, after this whole debacle the Nigerian judicial system will never remain the same.

The four companies charged alongside a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, and two others with money laundering have pleaded guilty to the offence.
The four companies pleaded guilty to conspiring with Dudafa and the two others to launder a sum of $15, 591,700 before a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had since frozen the $15.6m found in the four companies’ accounts in Skye Bank.

The South African Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande has announced plans to have witchcraft included in the curriculum from 2018.

Abortion and infertility

We can feel grief and loss after losing a loved one, a relationship break-up, or a job.
Guilt
Some women experience Post Abortion Stress syndrome (PASS). Those affected can find themselves experiencing a common set of physical or emotional issues after experiencing momentary relief. Abortion is also often accompanied by complex feelings of guilt if they feel it has compromised their spiritual, ethical or political beliefs. In this cases, guilt can be resolved by forgiving oneself and seeking forgiveness from God or a spiritual higher power. You may need to talk to someone about it to help you move through the process.
Shame
Many are afraid of sharing their physical and emotional experiences due to the fear and shame of political and religious backlash. Shame is a more prevalent emotion that can be felt depending on one’s religion. “Shame is something we feel based on our perception that others think we could or should have done differently”.
Isolation
The fear of judgment and feeling alone can cause many women who are dealing with guilt, loss and even infertility after an abortion to remain quiet. It is a disenfranchised grief and loss that the society does not validate. People do not also feel the need to grief the loss because it was their choice or because of the stigma associated with the act.
Please know that it’s part of your story and you have every right to experience every emotion that comes with it. While this is not a way of validating your action, it is seeking a greater release that helps you move on to be all that you were destined to be in life. The emotions of guilt and shame is crippling. Consider opening up to a professional counselor or therapist, while also seeking a support system.
