Ww have different objectives here in nairaland. I do not know your aims here but mine is not to learn anything about the civil war as I already know everything neither am I going to download unpublished memoirs of the actual actors during that period. I'm in this forum to cajole those who are bigoted in their posts. That is all. If you are expecting an accademic reference from me, that can happen but not here and never will it be. Do I look like someone who is serious with this site?.
Free me let me go and search for bigots and have a laugh at them.
Chickening out.....Common! when did NL stop being a PLATFORM of learning and discoveries.
.
No fall my hands na.....provide us with the facts. Okay, where can I meet u?
.
Im still on my point. Ojukwu messed up, but his followers were/are too sentimental and emotional to accept/see/perceive it!
.
My recap;
-Igbo Killed Hausa and Yoruba.
-Hausa killed Igbo and Yoruba.
-Igbo declared war on Hausa.
-Yoruba begged Igbo not to declare war (whereas, Yoruba stood more ground for the action)
-Igbo still went ahead.
-Igbo blamed Yoruba for betrayal.
.
Observation, the Yorubas were in the best position to declare war (both on the Igbo and Hausa) for wasting their icons during the courses of Coups and retaliation.
.
Conclusion: The Igbos should stop blaming the Yorubas for their downfall, but Okukwu!
Politics › Re: Achebe On Awolowo: Has He Gone Too Far? by ayobase(m): 12:01am On Oct 11, 2012
dayokanu: In the first coup the people killed were not just Political leaders some of them were cultural and spiritual leaders of the regions

Sardauna was the spiritual and political head of the north, Akintola was the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. The manner which Azikwe and Okpara escaped the killing pointed to it that it was a tribally planned event. After the coup Igbos everywhere were making almanacs, Music about how Ibos crushed the others.

Even goin in the North and selling posters showing Sardaunas head under the feet of Nzeogwu and ironsi.

Well they sowed the fruit of war and they reaped it bountifully. Why did you think Adekunle took the war personal? because a reverred leader in his community who committed no crime was brutally murdered by Ibo soldiers.

Ironsi had 6 months to take action but did nothing and was pussyfooting all over.

Sparing Okpara and Azikwe was their biggest undoing and 48hrs after the coup, Ifeajuna was hosted in Enugu by Michael Okpara
Which of the Adekunles?
But an Adekunle, Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi died alongside Ironsi on that day according to history!
.
Ur point is noted though.
.
The Hausas and yoruba didnt declare war when theirs were killed by the Igbos, but the Igbos did when theirs were killed!
.
And back to my question, where was Awolowo during these periods, and why are the Igbos not deeming it fit to even blame Ojukwu for declaring war in the first place.
.
Though, I thank God we had a civil yrs back, cos if we never had, there is tendency we might be embarking on or might have embarked on one by now!

Christianity is not about one church,if it was y didn't Jesus christ preach the word only in Jerusalem? Why did the curtain in the temple teared in half wen he gave up his life?huh?why did Paul aka Saul started different churches?

Stop using christianity to suit your own life demands.

I know for sure that if Jews and Jentiles interracted then it meant christianity is not about ur church or my church, its about serving the same God.
If you tell me m not ready for marriage just because I won't take that crap from that pastor u got sumthin else coming.Unless we serve different Gods?

Ngodigha1: About my signature-It highlights a common problem found in Igboland and yorubaland. Aworis disown yorubas when it pleases them and Ikwerres do the same to Ndigbo when it pleases them.
About Awo, people shouldn't be angry because no one has accused him falsely. Prof Achebe is a fearless, if colonialist do evil he will say so , if F.G does evil, he will do the same and refuse greek gifts from them. Hence in Awo's case, he has said things from the way he saw it during those dark periods.
....and Ojukwu.............

dayokanu: Because Dimka killed Murtala he is asking why they didnt kill Middle belters and comparing it to the killing of the Sardauna , the Aare Ona Kakanfo, the prime Minister and the minister of Finance
LOL....I gerrit!
The failed coup by Dimka led to the execution of 2 Colonels, 4 Lt. Colonels, 7 Majors, 6 Captains, 9 Lieutenants, 7 non-commissioned officers and a civilian broadcaster.
.
If the middle belt wasn't LEVELLED due to the sin of these people led by Dimka, then Civil war should have been avoided by simply bringing the perpetrators to book just as Dimka and his cohort!
.
My point is, the War was avoidable!

Ngodigha1: @Ayo, Prof Achebe, did not only criticise Awo, but also Gowon and Ojukwu. Its just that some Yorubas are no better than muslims who go on rampage anytime the truth is said about muhammed.
My bad, based on posts here so far, thought he critisized Awo only.
.
U can see what Im talking about. CONCLUSION based on what I have read on here. Guess u know where Im going to!

tomakint: Actually no, but if you take your time to pick up unbiased materials written on the war, you will definitely sympathise with the Igbos. The 920-day Civil War was largely genocide against defenceless Igbo women and children. The Asaba Massacre (the killing of hundreds of defenceless civilians) of 7th October 1967 was memorial in the history of the Nigerian – Biafran Civil War! Believe me, Ojukwu did what was best for his people at that time, but many political analysts of those days make a mountain of a mole hill in that war, thereby misleading, many people. Truth takes time to manifest, and when it does cannot be buried - That is the story of Emeka Ojukwu!
Many articles have been and been read, and more are still coming, just like the latest by Prof. Chinua.
.
All there articles are based on personal perception based on SEEN, HEARD, TOLD and INTERVIEWS/CONFESSIONS!
.
We all heard Awo's story and also Ojukwu's.
.
Lets not dwell on the aftermath (war and post war), but the pre-war. The war was avoidable, but he Ojukwu still went ahead (did he think he can win it all alone), and later crying woe for being betrayed.
.
The Northerners are even out of the scenario now, but Yoruba. Its so ridiculous and pathetic that the Igbos have forgotten the origin of their ordeal.
.
The truth be told, nobody knows the truth, but these dead men and some living ones.....their agreement could be political, cant be sure cos I wasnt there when they sat around the table!
.
I have good and befitting comments and recommendations about Awo, but the issue of Biafra war that Ojukwu could have avoided. And on the part Ojukwu, he hasn't been recommended besides standing in gap for his people, and simply causing AVOIDABLE havoc on the IGBOS!
.
We have dwelt enough on hearsays, let the CRUDE truth be told.
.
There wont be sitting around the table for political dialogue if Ojukwu didnt declare an AVOIDABLE WAR!

Ujujoan: And seriously, these people saying 'what will it take from her' are you guys just not getting the issue here? This goes beyond greetings, this is a huge dis-respect.

In Igbo land, we respect our elders. It can NEVER be the reverse just beacuse you are a wife! The moment you start letting your in-laws take advantage of your just because your are married to their brother, your doom begins!

The woman is unhappy for God's sakes. You guys may call her petty but to her, it means a lot!

Personally, I won't do what is being requested of her. Not that it's a big deal to call someone 'Aunty', but it's wrong to force it on her!
No one can take advantage of u without ur approval.....and it doesnt mean that one wouldnt call them to order if they misbehave!
.
Well, u said it, ''Its not a big deal to call someone Aunty''.....change is constant....she shld do it for the one she loves. The guy knows what he is doing....he is reinforcing!
Family › Re: Should I Greet & Call My Husband's Younger Sister 'Aunty'? by ayobase(m): 3:14pm On Oct 10, 2012
slimyem: Seriously, what will it take from you?
Its not like you have to see and greet your in-law everyday...is it?
It is a traditional thing in my place too.A wife has to put that word before the name of any in-law that she meets at home no matter how young that in-law is.It is not usually enforced but the wise ones do it to stay off family trouble.
You are the one who has chosen to be a part of their family and seeing as what they request of you is unthreatening,i don't see the issue.
Do the "aunty lagbaja" when you have to,go your way and have peace.
Do not let such an inconsequential matter create problem in your home like its already starting to.
Goodluck!!
OP.....Im buttressing my point with this again!

Ujujoan: So because she's married she should sell her pride just to preserve her 'Mrs' Status huh

na wah!

I find it very insulting that your husband will expect you to call his sister (who is younger that you are) 'Aunty'! It's very wrong and belittling. DONT DO IT. Let heaven fall down.

What will it be next? Wash her clotes, cook and serve her e.t.c.

Abeg they should go to hell jor.

I'm from Anambra State and I don't call my husband's sister (Who's 3 years older than I am) 'Aunty'! What nonsense?
I have women that call me brother AY, and it doesn't belittle them (No one can belittle u without ur consent). I dont even see it as anything.
''Brother AY''. Yes! I RESPECT THEM MORE!
.
And this is just a simple title that promotes no form of seniority in its definition!
.
If I may ask...whats the meaning of Aunt?
It even makes u feel younger.....
.
OP.....NO BIGGIE ABT IT, unless they are disrespectful, and they dont dear call u by ur NAME!
