@dogice @toyogirl @blackbuddy and other gurus in the house, thanks for the useful info, now I have a clue on how to go about it God bless you bosses Blackbuddy: Hi boss, for me it was Turkish Airlines and I flew with the laptop in my backpack containing all my original certificates, family documents, some personal effects and my kids jackets. It was bulky but I just hung it on my back after it went through the xray screening. I can't recall if it was weighed but I doubt if anyone will turn you back for weight of backpack. My wife carried her own backpack and 2 of my kids carried back packs as well. We maximized my family size to carry stuff as 5 hang luggages Hopefully, others will share their experience. |

Thanks boss, really do appreciate ur advice. I mean my hand luggage. most airlines specify a weight not more dan 7kg. Ordinary laptop without bag sef don weigh almost 7kg nd I will still want to keep some other things in the hand luggage.this is my plight o wht do you think boss Blackbuddy: I think it's more economical to buy the laptop in Nigeria, it's a crazy reality. When you compare prices in Nigeria to those in Canada, Nigerian prices are really competitive and reasonable. As for luggage weight, I advise you carry your laptop in your hand luggage and have it with you so you don't fall into the unfortunate situation of having it stolen in transit. Sadly, this is a risk of air travel across multiple transit points. Most of us just put our laptops in our carry-on, backpacks or rucksacks. If they (awon boys) want the laptop, they have to steal you too. Just make sure you have no pornography or questionable materials in your laptop in case of random customs search. America has taught us to be careful what you download and keep in your laptop and phone when you travel across borders, smh. |

I dont get wht you r trying to pass across toyogirl: I guess having his laptop as part of cabin baggage wd mean that he is limited to some airlines....eg you won't be able to fly Emirates, turkish airlines et Al...may also translate to longer travel hours (stops)/more cost, varied baggage policies, depending on your kaiya |

My dear nysc is nt as easy as you think o nysc runs was once easy bt nt anymore coz monthly clearance is now done tru biometrics (thumb printing) nd as you do so, it will automatically submit ur details in abuja.the idea of biometric just started this April. No one can do biometric on your bhave remember you did biometric during nysc registration so they av ur records. The latest news now is that they want to introduce biometric for CDS attendance too . Anyone who fail to participate in this is on his/her own My advice is itz better u do one thing at a time service before masters or masters before service. It is very easy to make the choice on your own if and only if you will be sponsored for ur masters abroad. Your sponsor can still hold on till you finish service afterwards you can travel out atleast by then, ur mind will be at peace dat u have a certificate irrespective of ur choice of coming bck to nija mzjokky16: Pls, am a final year student of university of Ibadan and possibly I will be done by December this year, and may likely go for my service in June and I plan to be a ghost corper after the two weeks of camp. My question is can I start the processing of my master program in Canada now even though am yet to finish cos i plan resuming in Canada by next year September for the fall admission. Presently,Am on 2:1, my CGPA is 5.2 out of 7point that unibadan uses. I have my eye on memorial university and have mail the department coordinator my 300level transcript and he said my results certified the department requirement, am yet to get a supervisor because all the supervisor i mail are declining my offer to be their student with the claim that they have enough student already. It is true that am not financially buoyant but some people said I can differ my admission when I get there and work for a year so as to pay for school, is this true? Will all this plan just be a waste of time. Is there any other schools that is as cheap as memorial university even outside Canada? |

A friend of mine had same issue, she went for service and when the time for her to travel for masters came she went for it, as long as you ve got someone to stand in for you in getting the certificate in absentia. ( Zonal Inspector or any top official) , they could help you out. Since masters degree is for September 2018 and NySc is November 2017. It's possible. Kill two birds with a stone |

you dont need to submit any ready-made medical report for ur application instead, if you have done upfront medical from one of the visa recognized medical centres you will be given a printout that will be submitted along with your application. the hospital will submit the report on your behave when requested by cic. netbeans1: pls do i need to submit a medical report for my visa application |

Yes I did. If you had done so, you would have gotten an update on ur app status then you will no y ur passport was dispatched. No one can predict if ur app is either Approved or delayed coz you did upfront medical. This is one of the advantages of linking paper app online. Be positive nd trust God, it will surely end in praise akdam: No, I didn't link my paper application online. Did you link yours? |

Did you tried to link your paper application online ever since you applied? akdam: Bros, did you also got this mail from them "We would like to inform you that your processed passport has been dispatched from the Canada Visa Office, on 09 Jun 2017 to the Canada Visa Application Centre". When did you submit ur application and is it paper application. Thanks |

Thanks bosses for the helpful tips God bless you. Please lets keep the experience rolling as it will go a long way in helping prospective research students. may GOD continue to increase you in knowledge nd you too @maziude Cc:Genius00 thesoj: Some of the major differences between teaching/research in Naija and Canada (well I schooled in the US but c'est la meme chose) are:
1. The emphasis will be on your ability to think independently & creatively, not on your ability to memorize and regurgitate 2. You will be expected to be able to clearly describe your nuanced & complex ideas verbally and in writing 3. You will be free (and even encouraged) to ask many questions from and even challenge your research supervisor and professors (unlike Naija) 4. Your research supervisor will expect you to eventually know more than him/her in your area of research 5. You will be expected to take initiative, not always waiting for the advisor to tell you what to do 6. You will be expected to be able to read and digest journal papers quickly (don't worry this is a learned skill, you'll get better at it over time)
The items above may sound intimidating, but don't worry you'll get better over time as long as you are focused and committed and are the curious unrelenting type. Be free to ask questions of your peers who are better at some things than you. Don't be intimidated by other international or Canadian students who may initially appear better than you. With strategic hard work, you can catch up fast and be competitive with (or even way better than) them. I say this from experience and observation. |

maziude: I can relate. I am used to this now. Same thing happened when I got selected for my masters programme. My supervisor sent 100 papers asking me to summarize all and send to him immediately I get to china. No be joke, the paper dem boring. The good news is I am better for it now, thank God. Even, my new supervisor in Canada told me I will be included in a project this may, that I will work remotely...
Them go giv you money but you go work for every penny...chai, thank God for strength, we ready for them. @maziude please can you kindly tell us what to expect, how to cope considering the difference in teaching and learning methods in naija nd canny lastly what is the best way to start getting prepared for research masters in canada. Any current research master student's reply will be highly appreciated please advice! |
