Please can you direct me to resources to achieve this. I am very interested. Thanks.
Hmmn. There are several resources online. However, you may need to google node red, solpiplog, tasmota and learn about them.

In addition, you will also need the following items to achieve it. With your solar setup, you will need the following - Raspberry Pi 3/4, BMV 712 & connection cable, solpiplog software, wireless router, sonoff flashed with tasmota, node-red etc.

So when you have all these, someone here will guide you.

Cheers

Very, very true.

I have been underutilizing my setup before but with node red, my ACs work even at night and only go off when the threshold is breached and keeps the battery healthy. Before, I will be checking and turning appliances off through the internet but now, its done automatically. Solar is sweet grin

It was a sad one. Bad crash close to the end of the race. Some spectators needs to take care not to disrupt the race. How can you cause such wahala for somebody who have been racing for more than 4 hours? Its a bad one. Am sure the organisers will come up with new rules to prevent such in the future.

If I had to change anything I would invest in a recirculatory system for the hot water line . Currently takes about 2 minutes for hot water from the heater to clear out all the cold water in the lines and come out hot from the tap. This would not be a big problem in a large household with heavy use.
@NiyiOmolyunade

How does the re-circulatory system work for solar hot water? What does it take to achieve it. Waiting for the cold water to clear out is annoying sometimes and you dare not put your head/body as the water can be so cold like ice water self. grin grin grin grin I wish the hot water can come out immediately.

Thanks so much. I have corrected it. I didn't know about the scale parameter. I also found out about the precision parameter too and my config is ok now.

Both Mosquito and Node-red is running fine on my system now. I want to learn the node-red now so that I can start programming it. Do you have any guide you can recommend. I have downloaded some youtube videos anyway but I just want anyone that will do the job straight.

home assistant - BMV

.... but mine is controlled by my home automation using homeassistant. The State of Charge (SOC) of my battery and the voltage is fed into the homeassistant through Victron BMV. Any voltage sensor can also do the same. The SOC and Voltage then trigger a normal ac/dc relay to supply AC to the inverter if I need extra juice especially on days my batteries were not filled during the day.
@adrusa

Could you expantiate a bit on how you achieved the item in bold? I have been able to extract the data through Victron BMV (see attached screenshot) however, am yet to trigger anything but that's my plan. So it will be faster for me if you can describe it here. A lot of us will learn from you. You will also notice the Battery consumption and voltage is multiplied by x10 which may be confusing but thats the way its extracted.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by babaegun(m):
So if you are like me with affinity for hot water bathe, you will agree that, there is no greater joy like having it flow directly from you tap non-stop for a couple of minutes just to cool your body.

Everyday after returning home from a hard days work, I retire to my home and quickly take a hot shower just to ensure my body system returns back to its normal setting. I enjoy hot water therapy everyday as a pain reliever which makes me feel better. I sleep well and wake up energized. This is like a luxury which i couldn't enjoy as my 30 litres Ariston heater could not give it to my heart desire. Also, since I started solar, I have moved the Ariston heaters in my house to it and the effect on my solar setup is not nice at all as it could be cloudy for days. Also, I always turn off power from the Ariston heaters then too as I wouldn't want any electric shock as you may not know when things can go wrong.

So with the desire to achieve that (after saving some coins anyway grin ), I quickly put a call to JUO to supply me with a Solar Water heater, let me just give it a try as I have seen the wonders it did to GeorgeD1 few years back. Without delay, the package arrived all the way from Warri. I didn't hesitate to set it up despite the fact that it is still raining heavily in Abuja. And my plumber was able to re-route the pipes to conform with the new solar water heater connection. It is a non-pressurized one so I added Pressure pump to it and its been amazing. Hot water gushes out like hell fire grin

My brothers and sisters, that's how I have been enjoying unlimited hot water in my house. Morning, Afternoon and Night. My kids self are not left out. Enjoyment. But really, the technology is amazing. It is amazing that the hot water could stay overnight and still stays hot. I still have to use the mixer to regulate it else, the hotness is enough to scald bodi ooo.

So what I also noticed was that, when you turn it on, you will first experience cold water and it depends on the length of your pipes before the hot water starts rushing out. It is worth giving a try. Am enjoying it.

Now my batteries can float for more than 3 hours daily . If you have the space and coins, then you can give it a try. Am sure you will wonder why you didn't start all this years. grin grin grin grin grin

*coins - money ( grin grin grin )

@essegis

Thats a great testimony coming from you. We have so many good guys here but you may not know until you have direct dealings with them. You just see several people here with their username but wouldn't know who is behind those names. Different kinds of people full here so the best is to be polite to everyone and also watch out for the scammers too.

I have met several nairalanders (solar and FTA forums anyway) and they are mostly honest, highly placed people in the society. Nigerians are good people apart from the very few scammers. The first time i sent money to somebody here just to purchase something, my wife was scared. Somebody I have never met before but my goods were delivered.

So enjoy, learn and you will realise this is the best place to be. You will just learn something everyday.

Solar has changed my life. I have had constant light since the day I put up my setup and I have saved a lot of money. I have not used my generator for the past 3 to 4 years. Can you imagine. It is the best way to go. And do you know PHCN people have visited my house several times with their testing tools to check because i no longer buy token like before. Enjoy the world of renewable energy. No body can do you shakara. Well done @NiyiOmoIyunade. You are appreciated.

essegis:
I thank God I discovered this group. In the small time I have spent here I have learnt so much here with a lot of side helps. Thanks to the folks making this place go on. More grease to all your elbows. That being said my eyes have seen things. I am still stunned at what I came across between yesterday and today.

So I requested for a MK3 interface to help program my Victron and before you can say Jack Robinson two cool guys raised their hands and vola I was on my way to the island to pick it up without even thinking about any other plan for the day.

I found a museum. One with modern capabilities and set up instead of antiques. I am talking about the system of sir @NiyiOmoIyunade. As I type I still dey try to get my head around what I saw. So many panels, so many Victron, so much power, so much big words I was lost somewhere.

Even when my archaic brain couldn't find a way to get around the inability of the MK3 to connect with my laptop he offered to help and I was knocking on his door before day break today. Baba didn't even mind, attended to me like say we have been growing up buddies. Abeg you can all help me thank him.

And if you really really wanna see why his batteries are called that they come with bells and whistles take style look the attached pictures.

@NiyiOmoIyunade

I've been away for sometime and didn't know you have already dropped the Bomb. Yes, that setup is the Bomb!! Wow. Simply Wow!!

That's a great job you have there and lots of money. Well explained.

And the setup is in Lagos with all the clouds shocked etc. Wow, the Victron CCs are doing wonderful jobs squeezing juice out of that unpredictable weather condition. You really have a huge solar panel farm. And the Pylon-tech batteries must have cost a fortune.

With your setup, you will rarely need a generator or phcn. Planning for this your setup requires real "planning" with lots of money to spend. grin

Thanks for the update. I appreciate.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
My Oga,

Yes we are based in Lagos just 10 minutes walk from the Lagoon/Seaside grin grin grin.

The area is blessed with abundant cloudy weather, floods and lightning flashes.

To the system - there are 4 CCs - from left to right;

Victron Smart Solar MPPT 250V/100A - 20 Units of Canadian Solar 385W Connected
Victron Blue Solar MPPT 150V/85A - 12 Units of ET Solar 360W Modules Connected - thanks to two trusty NairaLanders
Victron Smart Solar MPPT 150V/70A - 12 Units of Canadian Solar 300W Modules Connected
Victron Smart Solar MPPT 150V/70A - 12 Units of Canadian Solar 330w Modules - will be setup this week as we just took them off the roof of our old location.

So effectively, I was making 12.75Kw of power from a 15.6Kw name plate array on the said day - I am still curious to see what the full 19.58Kw system would do.

16 Pylon Tech US 2000 bricks (8 stacks arranged each side of the cabinet) - that small black box on top of the cabinet is the PylonTech Low Voltage Hub which can help connect I think about 40 units of Pylon Tech together - it is required if you want to interface with the more than 8 Pylon batteries and have them all under 'smart control' - in an open loop system, you will not need the LV Hub.

At the center of it all is the Venus GX (small blue box in the middle) with many wires sticking out - this talks to the inverter, MPPTs and batteries and make sure they all work in perfect sync.

Interestingly the combined PylonTech stack call for 400A of charging current - that is way more power than I would ever want to process through my current equipment - I currently do 245A and may push up to 320A @ 52.5v when done with the install.

At the extreme right is a 15Kva Quattro - in restrospect, I may not have needed such a size or it may have been better to do 3 units 5KVa in a 3 phase config - I may run into issues if I ever want to connect to a 3 phase grid or Generator as I basically wired the house single phase since the Quattro drives everything.

On top of the leftmost Pylon Tech stack are my Raspberry Pi 3 and TP Link Router - together these help me poll the Venus GX for information which I then forward to my EmonCMS dashboard - what I have posted here is the 'family view' so the household can manage power effectively - there is another hidden dashboard where graphs, trends, highs and lows e.t.c to aid system audit and diagnostics are kept.

@NiyiOmoIyunade

Wow. That's amazing!! 12748 Watts!!! That battery bank will always float for hours. Is this setup in Lagos or Northern Nigeria?

If you don't mind, kindly share the specification of this setup. Will like to plan towards future upgrade. Hmmn. This will guzzle a lot of money, no doubt but at the end of the day, constant power to power everything.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
Buying trusted premium products, you will never have regrets - the reliability, performance and bells and whistles are well worth it. I used to think Fangpusun was alright until I started using Victron in my own house and saw it blow the Fang outta the water. Imagine trying to aggregate your total PV generation in one dashboard when the CC is Fangpusun or EPSolar cheesy grin
Very Very True. Nothing beats a premium product. Waking up early, sleep late delivering optimum performance. The reliability, the accuracy of data, the efficiency and the durability is always guaranteed unless if one is unlucky which happens once in a a while. And Victron products in my opinion appears to be one of the the best brands available today but pricey due to the exchange rate.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by babaegun(m): 8:49am On Jun 20, 2020
NiyiOmoIyunade:
All other things being equal, option 3 will keep the batteries in sync the longest and surest.

YOU MUST however use equal length cable of suitable gauge for the parallel runs from the extremost batteries to the negative and positive busbars. The series connections should be equal length amongst themselves too but not a requirement for pack balancing.

You can improve passive balancing by arranging extra wires in parallel between each equivalent position of each battery bank
@NiyiOmoIyunade

Thanks for your comment too. I intend to use option 3. I will also ensure equal cable length for the battery banks.

@the bolded. Can you explain further or depict it with a rough diagram.

For the bus bars, how thick do you think a a bus bar should be? Very thick or very light?

Cheers.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by babaegun(m): 8:40am On Jun 20, 2020
ceaser:
Well, I'll take option 1.
The distance from terminals pack to the CC appears to be the same in both packs.
Whereas for the other options, there is some difference in the distance from pack to the CC which will invariably impact on the charging current each pack is exposed to (notwithstanding the use of busbars in option 3), the charging expectedly being less in the pack with the longer wires (distance).
@ceaser
Thanks for your comment.

adrusa:
I bought the 48v Felicity lithium and my first impression is not good. I tried to do a test drain overnight.
It gave me about 90AH drain overnight. I then set my Water Pump on it to drain it further.
I got to about 115AH when my inverter shutdown at about 49v. I wasn't sure which shut down first,
my inverter or the battery. But the battery was still (or back) on when I checked. At this point, I can not
recommend this battery based on expected AH output.
@adrusa
Its really a shame that Felicity will just come out with such bogus ratings to deceive the whole world. Why not come out with the actual things. People who will buy will surely buy. And in saner climes, they would have withdrawn their licenses. We should not encourage such things in Nigeria.

I was tempted to buy too but after speaking with one of the distributors, he confirmed that the 48V/200AH is actually 6kwh and not 7.5kwh as advertised. I told him point blank that they should stop deceiving people with "mouth watering offers". The last straw that broke the camel's back for me was that he said their BMS cant be monitored that they are still developing/researching to make it better. For me, that is a No No as I love to see data and lithium batteries shouldn't be taken lightly. At the right time, I will invest in premium ones that will give me all that.
