At last, showtime is up again.  I missed it soooo much.

We have already predicted it here that the project was designed to fail.  And that their main target is the rich.  They are actually day dreaming rolling out HD to dump on us. They want me to buy decoder at 40k abi na 60K and expect me to pay 5k every month for rubbish and at the same time, force me to buy LCD or PLASMA and throw away my old CRT tvs.  Jokers. Dont worry, very soon dem go begin dash out their dish make people begin take am fry garri for this global recession time.

Thank God for FTA, man for no get option self.

Its really a pity. Well, before you enter bus come all the way to abuja to kidnap grin my decoder, I will suggest you see olofofo first. I think his own is working well. Is your USB-Serial working now?

@olofofo,

You setup is nice. could you please, reduce the size of your pictures to something like 640 x 480?

Thanks
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by babaegun(m): 1:00pm On Feb 19, 2009
@toxnaija

ifende:
The problem is that the system assigns the available com port to it so what you do is goto your device manager and check for the port assigned to it and use that port when you want to update your decoder.

Thats exactly the problem. Find attached the way to go when troubleshooting the USB. (Right click my computer, choose Manage, then click  Port (COM & LPT) There, you will find the right COM port.   In the diagram, the system assigned COM21 and that is what you will choose when upgrading using the Upgrader ash shown in the diagram. When i remove the USB and connect to another port, the system automatically assigned COM10.

I have also noticed over time that some USB serial cables can be cr--zy. So you may need to re install the driver before your system can recognize it.  Cheers.

@gangsta101

Well done on the success of your upgrades.

@all

So it shows that there are different RS232 cables in the market (straight, crossed etc). I think the best thing for forum members to do when they buy new rs 232 cable is for them to attempt making upgrade with it, and if it fails, they should then try the cut and test method with a multimeter as the colored wires might be different from the one in my tutorial.

@olofofo,

yeah, the updates are out. So, the party continues.  grin

@Nash-FTA, jujukemist, Gem

Thanks a lot.

@all on ABRACADABRA Updates

jujukemist:

There is already speculations that soon upgrade would not be available anymore.

There is this hype that moresat.com will be closed down. its been on for sometime but this morning, the site is down.  Does that mean there will be no support for the Abracadabra card? I learn t its been down in the past. ART is presently down on Starsat (my own end sha) Can guys in the house educate us on this.

enitan2002:

, what type of cable do we use for PC-DECODER, DECODER-DECODER? any right answer to d above question deserves a UNTOUCHED TILAPIA FISH from me

How bodi? the Lord is your strength.

To connect same devices, we make use of cross cable and to connect different devices, we use straight cable. However, to connect PC-Decoder, I crossed the cable to achieve the connection for the transfer. So PC-Decoder is crossed. I have never done Decoder-Decoder transfer before so i don't know the type of cable but it likely to be crossed too. For the tilapia, no thanks. no be the tilapia cause your present predicament?    grin

HOW TO BUILD AN RS 232 CABLE

Go to the guys selling computer parts. Buy an  rs 232 cable (as shown in Diagram 1). You can take the picture along with you for them to understand.  Both ends of the cable should be female (with holes) See attached diagram.  The connections will be

pin 2-----------------------------------pin 3
pin 3-----------------------------------pin 2
pin 5-----------------------------------pin 5

Though it may be difficult for you to physically know what connects to what, i will give you my own style.

Take a cutter (or knife, pliers)  and cut your cable into 2 at the midpoint (middle), you will find 9 coloured cables including a naked one.  You will only need the Green, Orange, Red and the naked cable. Connects it  like this at both ends.

END 1                                   END 2

Red  ------> connects to   <----------- Orange
Orange        ------> connects to   <-----------  Red
Green      -----> connects to   <----------- Green
Naked wire ------> connects to   <----------- Naked wire

If you connect it well, then you are good to go. (make sure you cover the connected ends with cello tape before you destroy your decoder oooo)

Check the diagram for more details.

However, if your own cable is different, you will need a Multimeter (in the diagram) to test the cable to actually determine pin 2, 3 and 5 then you cross it as is shown in the diagram. How do you test? Alright, Turn the multimeter in such a way as if you are testing for the resistance of the cable e.g. 2k, then connect one end of your Multimeter to pin 2 (second hole from right) (see pin diagram 1 -5, 6 – 9) and then the other end of the meter, use it to touch each ends of the coloured cables to test. If there is a deflection(analog) or value (for digital) , then you know that is the cable for that particular hole (pin 2) . Do the same to determine pin 3 and 5. The naked cable is easy to see.  You can then connect the cable to your decoder and PC to start the transfer.

@Jossybless.

Did you press 6969 (x 2) on your decoder? Its possible that Jsc channels may be down or the patch you have are outdated. Oga Moderator, Can you confirm whether the JSC channels are still up? So be patient.

@all

Hi people. Its good to be here again. Am happy that Oga moderator and I upgraded our starsat decoder over the weekend. It was an exciting experience.

I "jam" one guy today in my office who has an Echolink EL - 3020 IR Plus decoder. He came to the IT office looking for someone to help him do the upgrade. It was an SOS call and he needed to do the upgrade as the showtime & Art channels are all down. He told me he pays N3,000.00 every time to do the upgrade. Well, I was fortunate to get Oga Badaru online who directed me to srsupport.com for the software. So, 2moro I will be helping a brother upgrade his decoder. Also, he uses a 1.8m dish with fuji lnb and he gets all the showtime and showsport package without break in signal. He told me he stays in Suleja and his house is on a hill. (I think his house must be on the popular Zuma rock for him not to experience any break in signal)

I'll give you guys the gist after the upgrade. I have also encouraged him to register on nairaland fta for knowledge.

BUTONEDAY:

@ south south people
All of us who will be present during his sojourn in Warri needs to be prepared as well. Items to be catalogued before his visit are:
1) Correct type/size of dish. Preferably 2.4 to 6.0m solid dish. Ensure dish is in good condition.
2) Good lnb. eg Fuji
3) Small 950 watt gen set to ensure continuous power supply
4) Echolink, Starsat receiver plus card to access non fta channels. Strong receiver still ok.
5) Carry out a survey of your compound. Chose a good site. May even install the mounting pole prior to the D-day.
6) Have on hand a portable dvd laptop player or a small tv.
This list is not exhaustive. The emphasis here is that we should be ready.
NB: Not sure if he will be able to attend to all. Also, we do not know how long he will be with us - One day, four days or one week?

@BUTONEDAY & all south south members.

Please include item 7.

7.) Maximum Security.

You guys will need to provide adewest security before dem kidnapp am oo as dem don begin dey carry black people too. grin

@all

Sorry, that conversation was recorded in my house last night.

I finally pick the second Starsat decoder and the Abracadabra "wonder" card  with Oga Moderator, twinstaiye on Friday. The installation was done yesterday (saturday) and i am tooo happy.  I still used my 1.8m dish with a fuji LNB. In fact, with the  fuji LNB, the tracking signal (12130) increased from 52% to 60-61% (on strong 4652) and i was able to pick the almighty CNN with my 1.8m dish, all showsport, all ART channel etc. Thats incredible. Well, the STARSAT "GOLD" decoder is fantastic. very good. i am enjoying it.

well, find the screeshots of some of the channels below.
