toxnaija:

all,
I got one I-Zap broadband there a few hours ago at 11k with 100 hours free 24/7 in 30 days. Starcomms IZAP Broadband service is the fastest wide area wireless service commercially available today. It has typical download speeds of 300-600kbps, but is even capable of speeds of up to 2.4Mbps. Downloading complex, large files remotely is now a reality.That is not all, with its dual function; you can switch over to CDMA 1x data access, whenever you are out of the IZAP coverage area.

@Toxnaija,

Thanks for this fantastic information.  I was actually considering the MTN F@stlink which I tested last week friday. It was quite fast. The USB device (similar to the IZAP device) is N25,000.   They have the option of daily browsing (N500/day) which is quite cheap compared to the Multilinks dial up (N520/day). I think the starcomms IZAP thing is quite cheap but can you please confirm their billing package. Do they have this browse-per-day option and what is the rate. I actually have access to broadband internet in the office and I can download anything "downloadable". I'll will only need it at home to replace my multilinks.

Cheers

@All,
There is nothing like Free - to - Air ooo.  With the coming of OHTV, I have been "attending" the Holy Ghost Congress in my room.  Isn't that nice.  In fact, my Landlady (Redeemed pastor) was overjoyed when i  scanned her MyTV setup  yesterday to reveal the channel.  Her shouts of "Jesus" startled me.  I told her i've been "attending" since monday. She planned to travel to the redemption camp  for the program but some things held her back.  I saw her this morning and she was still full of thanks. In fact, I believe that with what i have done, I might get a reduction in my house rent grin . At least, i saved her the money and stress now

@Enigma

Thanks for the info.

So Hitv and AIT etc can afford to go Free to Air in Europe and then sell the same content to us here in Naija. Its a shame. What kind of country is our own self? If the Arabs can provide such fantastic contents to their people (FOC) over there, through Nilesat and we cannot do same here.  Na wa o.  There is movies, sports, cartoons etc and if only they believe their people can benefit from Nollywood too, they would have added it. Maybe they might one day undecided. At least, they show Indian films (Bollywood) too. We need to thank our stars that that doomed NigcomSat did not crash into Nilesat. The DSTV/HiTVs of this world would have loved that wink . [dem put satellite for up, come give NEPA make dem supply power, haba]

Well, we will get there one day

I am on my way to the barracks right now to check the evening signal for hotbird and nilesat on 1.8m dish.

After sitting in front of the cameras for almost 8 hours, you still have the energy to run to the barracks to check signal? Haaaa! you are a true DXer to the core. I love that spirit. I hope your wife will not complain sha,

@ Enigma,

If HiTV are not already aware before it is posted here then they are a mickey mouse organisation. Also, RDV does not encrypt merely because people post information here or any other forum. There are other pressures and reasons why they encrypt.

Please kindly list the other pressures and reasons why channels are encrypted. Thanks.

Guys, una well done oo. I got this on the net. Its on the new MBC MAX starting full programming tomorrow Sunday, 26 October, 2008 @ 3.00pm Nigerian time.

MBC MAX: “More Movies More Choice”- New channel on air October 26 will complement MBC2

MBC Group announced today the launch of MBC MAX, a new 24hour movie channel and the latest addition to the group’s free-to-air satellite TV offering. The new channel will start broadcasting on the 26th of October 2008 at 1400 GMT/1800 UAE and will offer viewers around the Middle East a wide selection of free movies to complement MBC2.
In line with the group’s policy of audience segmentation, MBC MAX will cater to movie lovers who are looking for more upbeat entertainment. The scheduling of the channel’s prime-time content as well as the channel’s visual packaging and creative identity are also designed to appeal to this audience segment.
“MBC is proud to have built one of the biggest free to air movie libraries in the world,” said Tim Riordan, Group TV Director, MBC group. “Such has been the success of MBC2 across the Arab world that we are launching a second movie channel to offer our viewers more choice, and to consolidate our position as the home of movies in the Middle East.”

Some of the movies to be shown on the first night of the broadcast include Spiderman 2, Cheaper by the Dozen, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, and Around the world in 80 days. Coming soon exclusives include blockbuster movies such as Robots and Camp Rock. In addition, MBC MAX will also premiere Nim’s Island and Bridge to Terebitha, never before seen on TV.

I have never tried tracking Nilesat in Lagos before but what I know is that with a 1.8m dish in Abuja, you still can not get all the satellite channels like MBC Persia, CNN etc. I think we need to wait for Badaru to confirm this for us.

@Gem,

Fry! Fry!! Fry!!! but not as in frying "Akara Balls"  grin(just joking)

Its a slang meaning "To destroy (electronic circuitry e.g. decoders, TV etc) with excessive heat or current." (as in high voltage a la PHCN or "I better pass my neighbour" generator) which can easily destroy your electronics devices if you don't have a good stabilizer). Though that may not be the only condition for electronic devices to be fried because I (and maybe enitan2000) "fried" our decoders in the course of patching it because its fake.

Likely solution? Well, its either you purchase another one or you visit the nearest MYTV office, if its a strong decoder (Which I did yesterday with the assistance of  Oga Moderator, Twinstaye) for their technical guys to help you handle. Just make sure you don't give it to any road side electronic technicians lest they destroy it for you.

@Jajuk

Did you say 6m? That dish is as big as the national stadium! You only need to put it on the floor and all the satellites (Nilesat, pas7/10, w3 etc) will on their own find it grin.
I think there is something you are not doing right sha. Go through the post again for more enlightenment. You will surely nail it. Wishing you the best of luck.

Cheers.

My eurostar also opens etvwithout inputting 6969, and etv has the same encryption with sabc1,2,3 which is nagravision1, and am sure the eurostar will also open the SABCs, so i guess this same decoder will also open thoe channels you just mentioned.

@Enitan
You don't mean it!!! That your 5.5k Eurostar opens etv without the almighty 6969? I am amazed. I think I need to get one too. I also quite agree with you that we all need to try different decoders to know their capabilities. It will be better for all of us. So we now have Starsat and Ali decoders. Thats nice.

@All

I returned to Abuja about 2 weeks ago. So am back again fully to the forum.

I have now joined the league of Enitan, Azeezbaba and Pitodenz (and also the others who might take the risk) in the frying of decoders. I "successfully" fried my 4653x yesterday after loading a patch. The patched was successfully loaded and the system information showed it was updated to 1.67P.

However, the decoder tripped off after working for about 3 hours and all effort to revived it proved abortive. Thank God, the 4650 was still in the house so i quickly switched to it so that my daughters can enjoy MBC3. I hope to get a new (original) decoder soon. Now, I believe strongly that most of the 4653X in the market are all fake.

@BADARU
You didn't send the patch as promised. Anyway, how is the Humax and Nano decoders? how much do they go for in Naija. Can they open eTV and ART/showtime? Please let me know.

Oh gracious me! The only FTA Lady in the house!

Am sorry, am presently on vacation in Lagos with my family. So no FTA for me until I return to Abuja (honestly, I miss all the newly discovered FREE DSTV Channels).
You can't get all the channels on NILESAT unless you get a bigger dish and the award winning Fuji LNB. But let me ask you this, Which frequencies are you not getting? Please, let me know by checking from the Lyngsat site. From your previous posts, you have the ART Channels. This means, you have several channels than some of us.  But if you still want to receive all the channels, then you need a bigger dish (3.0m).

"Na wee?, mi bayi susu" (How now?, Thanks a lot)

@all
As always, you guys should keep up the good work.

On a lighter mode
I was at Alaba Market over the weekend to pick a new TV for my mother (as the old one decided to pack up some days before I arrived Lagos)
Those Alaba boys are vultures. The way they swooped on me was legendary. In fact, getting a breathing space from them was difficult as they kept following me everywhere and shouting: “We dey do promo now”, “Lets go to my shopu”, I go gif you 5 years guarantee”, “I be LG distributor oo” angry.
I eventually saw a shop which I entered, but was told that they wouldn’t test the TV for me. Haba! sad In fact, somebody (who tried to help) even told me that when I finished paying, I will then go to another shop to do the testing with N200.00! Those guys are thieves. I quickly ran  from the shop.

I was lucky (so I thought) to get another shop where they agreed to sell & test the TV for me. I chose an LG product. On switching the TV ON, lo and behold, It was SHARP ELECTRONICS that was displayed at startup!! grin Haba. When the guy saw the disbelief on my face, he just couldn’t help laughing too. Well, the guy brought another TV, Sony WEGA. Very beautiful. It was OK at startup. On connecting an antenna, the channels came out nice. I was almost telling the guy to pack it into the carton when I remembered I’ve not tested it with a DVD player. So I asked the guy to connect it to a DVD player. He was hesitant as he told me that there was no need that it will work fine but I stood my ground. It was then he told me the TV can only display BLACK & WHITE on video! sad A Colour TV? Thank God the money was still in my pocket. Else, I’ll be the one begging them to return my money which I learnt is not in their character to do. I bolted out of the place.
I had wanted to pick the Fuji LNB too but that experience taught me that I might end up buying a FUJIrege LNB grin. So FTA Lovers, If you want to enjoy FTA, don’t buy your TV or anything from Alaba unless you understand their ways well.

Orikinla, Negro & Ujujoan, I feel your pains. I know what it means to loose a loved one. It is always very sad
My prayers is that "May they rest in peace and rise in glory" and "May the good Lord give us all the fortitude to bear such irreparable losses." (Nisee)

I lost a younger, blood brother about 10 years ago and also lost a close friend in my early years in the University. I cried so much that I lost my voice in both cases cry.  I wish I could bring them back to life.

I still have both parents and my fear is always, what will life be without them? The thought of it, as I type these piece brings tears to my eyes.  They have been my all in all. Their prayers, love, kindness saw me to this stage in life. But definately, I know they will surely leave one day.  And that is why I have vowed to always love them and provide for them so that in death too, they will be happy.

We need to be close to God (or Allah or whatever we beleive in). People die cheaply in our country. A lot of this could be avoided but for the way things are in our country. Imagine the agony of those mothers in Port Harcourt plane crash that took our beloved Bimbo Odukoya. They are sooo helpless. May God help us all.

I think you need to do the LNB skew thing. You need to turn the LNB clockwise or anticlockwise with the horizontal frequencies. You can get more info from "Prof" Enigma's handouts Here.

Good job All, please let us try and answer questions from lamer and Guru alike , i have asked questions here in the past and till date still no answer(e.g. What is the use or advantage of 2 C-band LNB on same dish , i understand having a C-band and a Ku-band on same dish, ), But you are all doing a good job. Thanks

Depending on the satellite you are trying to track, you may decide to install 2 C-band LNBs on a single dish (mostly stationary dishes). The logic behind using C & Ku bands on the same dish is also the same behind using C & C-bands on a single dish.

For example, If you are addicted to NEWS, Intelsat 907 at 27.5°W (VOA, NTA, NTA Plus etc) & NSS 7 at 22.0°W (CNN, France 24, Aljazeera Channels etc) are located at different degrees. If you have a dish that is stationary (ground mount type), you can track the two satellites using 2 different C-Band LNBs placed at those angles. However,a C & Ku band setups is much more popular.

In most cases, motorized dish setups are usually used to track multiple C-Band transponders.
