@All
Good job All, please let us try and answer questions from lamer and Guru alike , i have asked questions here in the past and till date still no answer(e.g. What is the use or advantage of 2 C-band LNB on same dish , i understand having a C-band and a Ku-band on same dish, ), But you are all doing a good job. Thanks
Depending on the satellite you are trying to track, you may decide to install 2 C-band LNBs on a single dish (mostly stationary dishes). The logic behind using C & Ku bands on the same dish is also the same behind using C & C-bands on a single dish.

For example, If you are addicted to NEWS, Intelsat 907 at 27.5°W (VOA, NTA, NTA Plus etc) & NSS 7 at 22.0°W (CNN, France 24, Aljazeera Channels etc) are located at different degrees. If you have a dish that is stationary (ground mount type), you can track the two satellites using 2 different C-Band LNBs placed at those angles. However,a C & Ku band setups is much more popular.

In most cases, motorized dish setups are usually used to track multiple C-Band transponders.

Cheers

@toxnaija

What size of dish are you using for Nilesat? This frequency (12073H/27500) has been elusive on my 1.8m dish in Abuja.
Where are you located as this info is not on your profile.

Thanks

How about making Nairaland chat enable (like the one available on facebook). or what do you think my people? I have seen some of my friends online on nairaland and wish to chat with them immediately without going to ymessenger but its not possible. Nairaland will surely come alive if this is done.

So oga Webmaster, what do you think? Nairalanders, Vote(type) Yes if you are in support or No if you oppose this.

@captainus

Sorry, i missed that.

I had a motorized setup in the past. it gave lots of issues especially during rainfalls or strong wind. The dish always move and the channels are lost automatically. So I rarely look forward to such times because I had to re-align the dish back to its position to get the signals. I use a stationary dish (ground mount) now.

You can track more than one satellite with a stationary dish depending on the position of your LNBs because the satellites are located at different angles (degrees) in the sky.  (see the diagram)

@all
For more on how the satellites are located in the sky, download this free software . hxxp://members.chello.nl/~berry.walda/GorbTrack.zip    Unzip it and install.  Also, download the location file for your country  at hxxp://earth-info.nima.mil/gns/html/cntry_files.html  (if you are in Nigeria, simply download the location file for Nigeria here hxxp://earth-info.nima.mil/gns/html/cntyfile/ni.zip).  You will need to extract the zip file into "C:\Program Files\GorbTrack\Countries" on your PC or laptop and then run Gorbtrack,  choose your country and location in the "Location" Tab. (as always, change hxxp to http)

Sat Info - will give you possible satelliteS in your country.  Clark Belt, Ground Map, HA Map etc will all show you satellite positions.  It is a great tool.

Sure the beam is for middle east and that is why a big dish (1.8m and above) is required over here (Nigeria) to track the satellite. Over there, they do not need a big dish. They use small dishes (like 90cm) to pick the signals.

Yes, I think you should be able to track Nilesat with your 1.8m [or bigger--(gurus in the house can correct me if am wrong )] and strong decoder.  Infact, from the hxxp://www.dishpointer.com/ website, it appears you (Ghanaian) are even closer to the satellite that those of us  here in Nigeria.

I hope this help.

@ debolay

You will definitely miss some channels if you have a 1.8m dish. I am rarely at home so the little time I am around, my family always insists i take them out, so its a little bit tight for me.  You can download the pictures of my own installation and show your installer, i believe that will be a good guide for him.

@Gansta101

Yes, The spider wahala is a common one with LNBs that are cut open. Its called "BLOCKAGE".  So you will always need to check your LNB from time to time to dislodge the unwelcome "TENANT"

@F_Marshall

The LNB brackets are not locally made but the flat plate. My welder made the two for me @ N250 each.
I am presently getting signals from NSS 7 @ 7.0°E, Nilesat @ 22.0°W and Eutelsat W3A @ 7.0°W.  The DiseqC switch is a STRONG product.

@fasone

The LNBs are STRONG and PAUXIUS products. I can't remember the third one because i threw away the container box. Well, it was the only one available at that time. Though I've not had the time to compare the signal strengths.

@hyaco

Are you in any way referring to the Trimax SM-2200(attachment)? Its very expensive but a nice toy. its about $459.00 (about N55,000 shocked). But if you have a better one that is cheap, please post it here for us all to see.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by babaegun(m): 10:34am On Jul 14, 2008
@Enigma

I actually entered the frequencies but its like my dish is too small to catch it. My dish is 1.8m but with 2.4m or more, I should be able to catch those channels.

I bought the dish in Abuja. Its =N=9,000.00 at Zone 3 (popularly know as Neighbourhood). For you to get Nilesat in Lagos, you need a bigger dish like 2.4m or more.

I hope that answers your questions. Cheers.

@Fasone

Looking at the picture, the first one is Strong LNB, I'll confirm the other ones for you tomorrow. I was elated after the whole setup.

How I configured the Decoder and DiSEqC Switch.

DiSEqC
The 4X1 DiSEqC switch has the following markings on it.  LNB1, LNB2, LNB3, LNB4 & Receiver.  I connected coaxial cable from  the NILESAT LNB to LNB1, The Eutelsat W3A to LNB2 &  NSS 7 to LNB3 while LNB4 is empty (waiting for new birds, if any wink).  The Receiver point has a coaxial cable which connects to the LNB Input point at the back of the Decoder.

Decoder (STRONG SRT4650)

To configure the DiSEqC switch on the decoder, Press MENU ---> DISH SETTINGS (input password-0000) --> NILESAT (LNB1 See diagram )
You only need to change the DiSEqC Switch to 1.0 or 1.0/1.1 and Committed to 1 (According to how the LNBs are connected on the DiSEqC switch)
Take a closer look at the 3 diagrams especially the change in positions (on the extreme right)

To configure the DiSEqC switch on the decoder, Press MENU ---> DISH SETTINGS (input password-0000) --> EUTELSAT W3A(LNB2 -See diagram)
You only need to change the DiSEqC Switch to 1.0 or 1.0/1.1 and Committed to 2
To configure the DiSEqC switch on the decoder, Press MENU
---> DISH SETTINGS (input password-0000) --> NSS 7 (LNB3 See diagram)
You only need to change the DiSEqC Switch to 1.0 or 1.0/1.1 and Committed to 3

You will be forced to save changes. Click Yes.

You should be up and running.

Cheers.

Dear FTA Lovers,

Here are snapshots of my 1.8m dish setup for NSS 7, NILESAT and EUTELSAT W3A.

My installer assisted me in tracking the NILESAT bird. With the assistance of TwinsTaye, I was able to "catch"  the NSS 7 and EUTELSAT W3A birds on my own.  The most challenging part of it was running 3 coaxial cables from each LNBs to the decoder  in my parlour. I solved this by installing the 4x1 DiSEqC switch under the dish itself and therefore ran just one single coaxial cable  into the the decoder in the house. I thereafter used a nylon to protect the DiSEqC connection from the hazardous weather (VERY IMPORTANT).  I hope my pictures will assist you 'would be' installers.

I have been greening from ear to ear on this achievement! grin

Cheers.

Cartoon is good. its not for kids alone.
However, cartoons are filled, these days, with passionate kisses by cartoon characters. This is not supposed to be for kids. For parents, sit with your kids and watch it with them so that you can, from time to time, cover their eyes during those adult scenes.

Have You Ever Taught Your Wife How To Drive A Car?

This is the most interesting class to be in. That is, if you know how to keep your nerves in control. You need to be patient and say your prayers continuously in the process as your life is in your spouses hand. Dont forget, you need to take a handkerchief too. grin

I decided to teach my wife how to drive recently and, "Man", it wasn't easy. I had to enroll her in a training school where I parted with N7K. After that, it was all prayers and high blood pressure. You can't miss the "Learner", "Maamaa" shouts from drivers of other cars. Well, its better for her today.

A friend of mine narrated his own experience of how he had a fit with his wife while teaching her to drive. A colleague has also lost his life while teaching his wife how to drive (God bless his soul). I know people have stories to tell here. Lets know your own experience.
TravelRe: London Is Not The Paradise I Expected by babaegun(m): 4:35pm On Jan 30, 2007
Well. I think I can peep in some words of advice for the London bound or would be londoners.

Food, try and ask this Asians about Kebab. That is the most popular and cheapest food you can get. You can also as for places where you can get the "Eba and Ogbono" or whatever you want to eat. But its actually expensive.

Transportation- Buy a week's worth of Tube (underground train) Ticket. Check out the zones oooo. No sit inside train pass your zones oooo. Before London police will think you are trying to be smart.

Amusement - Well, there are lots of places to visit. Buckingham palace, Downing Street etc but everything is money. Take the tour bus - which is about 18 pounds. The bus will take you round the town to interesting places where you can snap pictures and see things.

Try and enjoy your stay over there.

Hi guys,

sorry for the slight delay. You can call the FTA guy on 08068229452 or 08057114351. His name is Adebayo. He will attend to all issues pertaining to FTA.

For the DFTV, am not aware but it will be a welcome development as they will provide a satellite where those stations will be connected to and the dish will likely be small.

well, post any info on that here for us to see. Such things are presently in UK and they are called "Free to View" where you pay nothing more than the cost of devices but they bombard you with adverts.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tvs by babaegun(op): 5:04pm On Oct 04, 2006
Sorry guys, i've been away and i've not visited this site for quite an age now. But not to worry, I will try to answer your questions.

1. Yes, I know a guy that do such work in lagos but you have to PM me as I will not want to put his phone number here.
2. For Nilesat and the satellites you listed, you need a bigger dish. At least a 1.8M dish. There are 2.4m, 3.0m etc but the 1.8m dish will be ok for you if you intend to hook on to Nilesat.
3. For the prices, you should expect nothing less than N25,000. Though, you can still negotiate.

Finally, you will never regret it. On the Nilesat, there is MBC 2 which is total films - 24X7 and other exciting ones and the beauty of it is that, you will not pay any monthly subscription.

Many thanks.
