@ edwife, you can't compare the servings of sugar in fruits to the servings in coca-cola. Coco cola is nothing but refined sugar. Bad, bad and bad. It's sugar in it's worst form. In fruits, however, the sugar is getting balanced out by fiber, protein sometimes, vitamins, potassium, etc. Fruits are very essential. They are a good source of simple carbs. It's a balanced food, unlike coco-cola and fruit juice. Healthy sugar can't be compared to refined sugar. And, butter is the worst form of fat there is. It's contains mostly trans-fat and saturated fat, the worst kind of fats. It's always good to find foods that has mono-unsaturated or poly-unsaturated fat. Foods like avocado, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil etc. Basically, plant based oil. You get enough cholesterol and bad fats from animal meat already, there's no need adding extra to your meals. You wonder why vegetarians live a long and healthy life? ![]() |
EfemenaXY:Julian Michael? That woman fit kill man pikin. Her beginner version is super advanced to me. No, it's nothing crazy. An example of what I do. A 15 minutes light workout. 2 Mins - Jump rope (you don't need a rope, just jump on the spot) 1 Mins - rest, don't sit down, walk around 2 mins - Jump squat ( squat, jump, squat, jump etc) 1 Mins - rest, drink water, walk around 2 mins - burpees 1 mins - rest 2 mins - jump squat 1 mins - rest 2 mins - burpees (no rest after) 1 mins - jump rope Short and sweet!! |
EfemenaXY:You don't even need to spend all that money. There are effective full body workouts you can do without a machine or equipments. Workouts under 20 minutes but super effective. I can help if you need help. I only go to the gym coz I like the environment; everyone is focused; it's infectious. |
EfemenaXY:I used to get bored but not anymore. The weeks seem to go by faster now. ![]() About hunger pangs...I found a way to control them. I eat my dinner at about 7pm. I start getting hungry at 9/9:30pm. Then I go do an intense workout. By the time I get back from the gym, I'm so drained and hungry that my body doesn't care if I'm eating junk or healthy food; my body just wants food at that point. So I eat a bunch of bananas and pineapple; before I know it, I'm full again and ready for bed. I go to the gym Monday through Friday though. On Saturdays and Sundays, I fight through the cravings. |
zemaye:High five! ![]() |
EfemenaXY:I wish I had the luxury of making different meals different days like you people. I eat one set of meals for a whole week; then another set for the next week and so on. I have to do that to prevent myself from backsliding. ![]() |
Chillisauce, this should give you a better idea.
|
More.
|
Chillisauce:Lol. I try to hide the taste. Its either I make a dipping sauce to go with it or I put it on top of a protein. That's the trick! In no time, you'll be eating it all by itself.
|
cococandy:I knew I'd find you here too. ![]() |
EfemenaXY:Cashew nuts are a good and healthy choice I just don't like the taste of nuts. ![]() I've had times when my cheat meals turned to cheat week. But that's in the past. We thank God for that. ![]() It sure gets easier and it's worth it in the long run. |
EfemenaXY:eating healthy is actually harder than working out (to me). We're so used to eating junk that it makes weaning ourselves off them more difficult. ![]() but I make it easy on myself. I have what I call cheat days or cheat meals. Once every 2 weeks (usually saturdays) I go all out on junk; every food I've missed and craved. Though I now go without those cheat meals for a month atimes; hopefully a month will turn into a year. |
Chillisauce:Not so much a guru. I just try my best possible to live a healthy lifestyle. Which one of the foods? all? |
Meal 5 (dinner) - baked sweet potatoes, catfish nd veggies
|
Meal 4 - asparagus, cheese and ham... my trial and error snack, though yummy.
|
- meal 3- jollof rice (no oil), grilled chicken nd baked pineapple.
|
Meal 2- smoothie (avo, apple, banana)
|
Meals for the day -meal 1- baked plaintain, eggs nd veggies

3cycle:It could be water weight. It could be real weight. Like I said, for you to lose weight, calories burned > calories eaten. For the next week, it'll be nice if you keep a food journal, so you and I can actually access what you've been eating. You might also want to start exercising; it burns calories, it's good for your heart and skin. You don't have to have a threadmill or gym membership to get a work out. If you need more info about effective home exercises, ask me. Plus, meat isn't the real problem in a weight loss journey. Carbohydrates and fats are the real problems. If you eat more carbs than your body needs, you body will readily convert the excess carbs into fat; and it gets stored in your body. But yh, a food journal this coming week!!! Or do you remember what you ate this past week (for two days at least)? I can access from there. |
Before I address you 3cycle( ma), I'd like to address the lemon/tea/ginger diet fads. My people, if you want fast results, best believe you'll gain the weight back FAST! Your body needs correct foods not just lemon and ginger. Crash-dieting is not the way to go. By the time you get your fast results, how do you intend to maintain the weight loss? Will you be eating lemon and ginger for the rest of your life?? At some point, your body is going to give up on you and you'll start eating more that you've ever eaten. Now we're back to square one. That's why most people find it hard to maintain weight loss. THE Solution? EAT HEALTHY and exercise. No shortcuts!! Make this a lifestyle! Stop looking for quick fixes! For you to lose weight, the calories you burn must be greater than the calories you eat. But you still have to eat healthy foods!!! Just in smaller portions. ---No coke/fanta/juice/etc!! ---No desserts/ no sugar / no chocolates / cookies etc !!! ---No oils (us Yoruba people and our soups) or fried foods!!! If you can successfully take these three devils out of your diet, you'll definitely be on the right track. |
crackhaus:I was going to add that. You beat me to it. All these drama between in-laws and wives can be avoided. I dunno how people gather strength to constantly deal with bad in-laws. Stay away from them in the first place; especially if the husband is #teamMum or #I'mNeutral. I mean, there are too many families available to settle for a hostile one. But some people love drama though. They love the constant power struggle. |
freecocoa:plus then again, how is it possible to land slap on someone's face because they refused to give you a photo? I'm 100% sure there was an intense verbal exchange before the slap landed. Now, the moment the wife retaliated, was the moment she becomes an aggressor; an equal aggressor. So aggressive she left bruises on the mother's face. Don't mind all these theory husbands on NL. Who would see their ma' with bruises on her face and still be forming "me and my wife"?? ![]() I'll so spaz out at that sight if I were OP. As in, I'll lose it! It's a different case if it's wife vs SIL? But your ma'? That's tew much. |
freecocoa:Abi o. Bruising your husband's mother coz she slapped you? Victim? I think not. If she had walked away. Yes she's a victim. But they fought each other sotay she left bruises on mama's face? Nah. We can even argue that mama is the victim here coz she has weaker bones. ![]() |
OP, this is a case of two grown adults deciding to fight. It's not a case of victim vs aggressor. Your wife's response to the slap isn't self defense. It was her decision to pick a fight. MIL wasn't pointing a gun at her, neither was she holding a knife to her neck. She could have walked away. They'll both be charged for assault and battery if they had gotten arrested. Keep your mum away from your wife. I don't think they'll ever fully recover from this, so just keep them apart since your wife has already apologized. Time will heal. |
Sophyrocks:madam abeg slow your roll. You've gone from calling the MIL fòòlish to insane to all sorts. That's someone's mum (even though she erred), and OP is present on this thread. You're not the one that got slapped and you're this angry and fiesty? You can give the OP advice without calling his mother names. |
rahymat:yam is not healthy if you eat like a glutton. Every food can be unhealthy if you eat them in large quantities. Yam is a natural, non processed food rich is fiber, complex carbs, vitamins, and starch. Sweet potatoes contain starch and so does white potatoes. Does that make them unhealthy too? Just like fats, starch/yam is okay if eaten moderation. |
3cycle:no carbs ? You need carbs ma'am/sir. That's the petrol/gas for the body. Your body can't function without carbs. You need the right carbs in the right amount. Sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal, plantain, banana, yams, and your nigerian solids but in the right amount. everything else on your list is okay to be crossed out. But since you've canceled out meat, make sure you eat your plant protein (beans, nuts, peas) and eggs and milk. And you need to cross out fried foods. Oils in general. Replace your fats and oils with avocado. Remember not to skip breakfast. Lastly, to simplify, most of your meals should consist of carbs, protein, vegetables and fats in the right amount. Carbs shouldn't take the most space on your plate if you want to lose weight. Something like this;
|
moca:Freecocoa is in the best position to answer that question. ![]() |
Ewuro4:Excellent. Equality ko, equation ni. ![]() when women are ready to drop the victim mentality and "be a man" then we can talk equality. |
johnny1980:I always wonder why this "nature" excuse can't be readily used for men too. One mgbeke dolt ( ) on here said "men should understand that women have wahala, it's their nature. And men are the cause of the constant disagreements between mother in laws and daughter in laws." Back to the million dollar question; when will women ever take responsibility for their actions? |
bukatyne:lol. I am happy when Feminists ( not women) are bashed. Point of correction. And if it so happens that everyone on here is a feminist, oh well.... ![]() Good. Don't let my posts give you hbp. Face ya work. ![]() |

how possible?
