I guess your main problem here is that you're not used to public transportation in Nigeria because you have your personal car. So my advice is that you should just try to get used to it. After all, there are many tall people that commute across Nigeria.

It's impossible to get used to this but thank you. I'd like to get the perspective from tall people working in Lagos.

Jobs/Vacancies / 9-5 Jobs Are Not For Tall People In Nigeria by Babysho(m): 8:28pm On Dec 24, 2023
I'm 189cm tall, fresh out NYSC and I've recently began working my first 9-5 job in Lagos and inorder to cut costs, I've had to opt for public transportation and I've found that the leg room is never enough in both those yellow buses and the BRT. I'm tired of folding like jeans in suitcase, my back won kpeme and I'm not 30 yet. It's even worse in traffic.

First of all, I don't think 189cm is that tall. Also, I'm suspecting most of these buses are shipped in from Asia where the minimum height is the lowest in the world.

Tall Nigerian working class, how do you cope?

Am sure you lack understanding, majority of them don't even depend on their salaries except those that don't want to use their heads. You should know that majority of workers in Nigeria are less paid, it is not lecturing job alone, some private school teachers that have such qualifications like those in lecturing field are even praying to get such job while those in the field are complaining. Again, I never said that they are been paid well but when compared with their fellow in private schools with such qualifications, theirs are till better. Remember that as their level rises, the salary continue to rise unlike those in private sector where salary can be stagnant for years without increment, the best you can do is to leave if you are not satisfied with the pay.

It beats me how there are Nigerians like you. Despite being oppressed and underpaid, you still take the side of your oppressors unconsciously. Is it that you just love to talk?
Your input about them having allowances is not your place to give. Let the bourgeoisies argue that. You just keep quiet.

And like I said it's all because you're not class conscious.
Your comment is so anti-revolutionary to a topic that could beget questions about salary increment for the proletariat but you just have to give your own ignorant opinions.

You forgot that they receive allowances something most people in private sector don't get. I earn more than them monthly, but with their allowances, I think they are still better than some in private sector, beside their work is stress free

Your thinking is all wrong. This individualistic thinking of not wanting better for your brothers and sisters in your class will ultimately allow the bourgeoisie use your head for life.
In that case, since you're suggesting that what the lecturers earn is decent, you don't deserve better either. Or maybe you actually think you don't deserve better 🤔

Where did she (Remi Tinubu) get the money (N950m) from?

Seun Kuti said something about Nigerians that stuck with me because I've noticed the pattern too. Whenever you say something to elevate or inform oppressed Nigerians, there'll always be one or two self ordained lawyers rising up to defend their oppressors. They don't even know the oppressor personally o, the oppressor sef never give them 5 naira before, they just have that sudden awakening to rise up to defend their oppressors.

Like those self ordained lawyers quoting you defending Remi Tinubu with nothing to gain. They worship wealth and oppression so much irrespective of the fact that there’s a chance it’s coming from their slow demise. One even name e sef Thomas Sankara 😭

Is it normal to wake up and experience mouth odour?

I don't like talking to people very early especially when I just wake up bcoz there is this odour when I smell whenever I try to smell my own mouth..

Is it normal or it is something that has to be treated?

If i have brush, I don't have any odour from morning till night except for night to morning sleep..

It's coming from your stomach probably ulcer related. Try to sleep with your head elevated.

I slowly read your comment and I was beaming with smiles because the words were laced with purity and immaculateness. Well well, where do I start from? This matter is a very long one o.

When I make a soul-searching or a status-quo-challenging comment on the first page, it tends to get removed. It has happened to me several times. After painstakingly guiding my thoughts and writing paragraphs and text after text, I refresh... only to see my comment removed. Im glad you pointed it out. Its so bad that I now half-heartedly make attempts to comment atop posts and in the event I do, I ensure to make bland or herd-like comments.

It's easy to think d mods are compromised, as in bribed. But we may have to hold that thoughts considering nl is such a huge site with little to no real competition, even with its 90's-looks. I believe the government has the site handlers on a leash. You have to closely follow the pattern on how the terrorist nigerian govt changed the words "fulani terrorists" to "bandits", boasted to capture the transmitter of radio biafra, fined (I think) AIT for airing a phone call conversation with the ipob media & pub secretary, banned AIT for supporting the opposition and lately had a skirmish with I think AriseTV. The media gagging is real.

As we Yorubas say, oro po ninu iwe kobo. There's still so much to say but lemme summarise by saying I do my bits here and there in stoking the moral and historical consciousness of friends and family. In spare time, I follow social media channels that promulgate decolonisation, history, emancipation, societal discourse, revolution, referendum, freedom and the counter of subliminal foreign doctrines and ideologies etc.

Image below, showing NL web traffic metrics:

I forgot to praise your reference using tech and user behaviour. Very nice haha and I'm glad we share the same values.

Yes I believe Nairaland is compromised. One is compromised not only through bribery but also by CHOOSING to support things that further divides Nigerian people for profit (just like NL and these highly tribal and religious topics/comments that make front page) and refusing to support things that elevate the consciousness of Nigerians, like you said they take them down or refuse to put them on front page.

Choosing to support things that further divides us is exactly what our governors and presidents do to get into power instead of educating us on how to be more African than osuka tying or churchgoing. So you can see the pattern in these compromised agents.

You're doing well. Anything at all to liberate and raise the status of Nigerian people is highly welcomed. I think the final step is to organise politically. There is The Movement Of The People centre on social media, and I share the same values as them and I believe it's the amount of time and effort you and I put into it that'll determine how much impact it can have in the lives of Nigerian people.

Karl Marx will faint twice inside his grave. In tech, there's something called user behaviour. You don't assume too much that the end user of your product is going to have sense, hence you make things like the user interaction and flow easy enough so that even a monkey could operate.

That's like what Karl Marx did with his quote. He never would have believed that such strong quote of his, with the intent of reviving the dead lost soul of a black man, can still be wielded in such a way to further sink them in their retarded hopelessness. When you think there's no possible newer lows, the average nigerian will go lower.

I do not see nigeria getting liberated though. Even though majority of them are backwards in thinking, they are still acutely divers in their backwardness. Nigeria getting better where one section of d country is protesting pro-Israel while another is protesting pro-Palestine and burning Israeli flags? Or where the youth do rituals for money while the other section kill people in d name of islamic blasphemy? Or where one is running secular and another is running sharia? Or where they kidnap someone from Ibadan and hand him over in Ilorin to face trial? Or where before one ascends presidency, he has to first swear at the terrorist usman dan fodio's grave then go to downing to swear oath of allegiance before any hope? Or do you mean a nigeria that is still firmly a british conquered territory...

I'll be thinking I'm talking with human beings and they will be tying osuka on their head all d way from arab culture, yet they conveniently forget that the arabs sold our black ancestors as slaves and castrated the males amongst them. Or d so called "woke" ones that are so clung to their british / jewish saviour that they start to demean our own ancestors? Is it such people with a lost forgotten identity that wants to make a country great or what?

Bro Nigeria is not getting better abeg. Just forget it.

You'd be surprised if articles like what you've just written makes front page on here everyday, our people's consciousness will be elevated. JUST ONE PER DAY and even small kids on here will begin to use words like EMANCIPATION, CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS in no time. And then if we spread the message on a nationwide scale, most of our African people will become conscious, especially politically.

But no, the compromised agents of Nigeria just like the mods of Nairaland will rather push Big Brother Naija and Rema and 7 things to do for survival, things that distracts the average mind from the issues at hand.

The absurdities you see doesn't work automatically, people wake up everyday to oil the machine of docility that keeps African people enslaved. People slowly fall back towards being human when left alone. When you see your own brother tying osuka, one compromised agent; an Alfa, wakes up everyday at 5am to sing the words that'll keep that osuka on his head for life. You can't blame the osuka tying man because we the conscious for Africa are not waking up at 5am to help him unlearn it.

Remember me and you are only privileged to have the level of consciousness that we do. Our only duty as free men is to liberate our brothers and sisters from religious obsessions and other distractions and not use them for profit like NL mods and Alfa...... and the only way to do that is to organise ourselves but even I fail everyday.

So yes, maybe Nigeria will never get better.

Nigerians are the shame of d world. With such mentality, they are directly responsible for the black race being at the bottom barrel all over d world.

I totally agree with you and I suspect it’s one of these Tinubu boys trying to make the masses docile in the face of immense suffering. Misquoting a whole KARL MARX to back up a crazy narrative. Marx would turn in his grave over this capitalist strengthening, bourgeoisie elevating, political elites promoting article. Even asking people to join APC 😂😂

The moment Nigeria is liberated from the shackles of neocolonialism, religious obsession, 'copy copying' white people due to inferiority complex, I think the rest of Africa will be liberated as well. It's 1960 independence struggle all over again but this time it's with the Nigerian agents of the colonial masters

Haha thank you. Yep, grew up and still in Nigeria and I'm in my mid 20s actually but if you mean not belonging to the generation psychologically, then yes, I've always been a RETRO PERSON. I know only 2 of my friends that read books.

One of the first good books I read was Sizwe Banzi Is Dead and I've been hooked to novels ever since. I've got this long list of novels I need to read, it's got those nostalgic books like KokuBaboni, Sugar Girl, Chike And The River and other books like Citizen Kane, Black Man Of The Nile...

What are your favourite novels?
Literature / Re: 12 Novels Considered The “Greatest Books Ever Written” by Babysho(m): 7:39pm On Oct 27, 2023
I've been reading way too many political books but I had to to really understand why Africa and Africans are the way they are. Even went as deep as reading books about Upper Egypt during the times of Black Kings like Imhotep, Zoser, Snefuru etc

If I had used that same energy at novels, I'd have read quite a lot and so unfortunately, I've read only Things Fall Apart, How To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby from that list.

My favourite novels of all time, 1984 by George Orwell and Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

Went at JAMB 4 times, scores swinging from 180 to 230, but Unilorin never gave me a shot. It's one of those tough times in life. Watching peers with lesser skills make it while I was home felt like losing. I took a different path, joined Kwara Poly, and graduated with distinction.

Tried direct entry into Unilorin, but they slammed the door in my face AGAIN. Even friends with Upper Credit got through. I was in a cafe, seeing parents pulling strings for their kids' post-JAMB, and it hit me – it's about WHO you know, not WHAT you know.

I didn't have connections. My folks don't play politics, or lick people's asses and I got that from them.

I aced my HND with Upper Credit. I joined where I did my NYSC training, got hired right away. I've got skills I'm confident of. But when I seek better opportunities, even with my certs, it feels like I've wasted life. I'm starting to feel like a charity case at work. Lose this job, and I doubt I'd find the same pay. They're all about that BSc. I feel like a charity case, and it stings.

HND isn't always about not meeting entry requirements. You might not get it if you're not an HND holder. Nobody wants to be treated like a second-class citizen. The discrimination is real, and it's a mental battle.

Man I feel genuinely bad for you because I had a similar experience. I sat for JAMB, got 214 when JAMB was actually JAMB. I remember we were about 4 or 5 in my class of 26 that passed the 200 mark.

I adored The University Of Ibadan so much and so I had UI as my choice and I sat for the post UTME. I can't remember my score but I did fairly well. And then I was denied, I remember I was so heartbroken. Weeks after, my mom calls me and tells me they're paying to get admission into UI, she got the information from one of her friends, an Oba in Ibadan. We couldn't afford what they were paying back then, plus such an act is against my dad's "principles" and so I had to let go.

I was the type of guy who planned out his entire life 😅 and the first step was to leave home for school at 18. UI, my dream, became my obstacle so I decided to settle for the "lesser UI", The Polytechnic, Ibadan. MISTAKE. Direct Entry didn't work as well so I went on to finish up HND. I eventually lost interest in school education. Instead of my school notes, I'd read books outside my syllabus and field.

Even though my command of the English language is close to perfection, with a touch of phonetics from my secondary school, despite my impressive knowledge and philosophy on Economics, Science, Politics, Arts, Anything! I still see that discrimination. I sometimes see them fighting that mental battle how man is not matching certificate lol

To be clear, I'm not one for changing HND to BSC, because the HND is suppose to serve a different purpose in our society, so a revamp of the programme is what is required and that's a discussion for another day.

What if I told you I went to a Polytechnic and from the way you think, I can tell I'm more intellectually sound than you. You actually don't know what a pun means because that's CLEARLY not a pun.

At least mention the schools. UI, UNILAG and maybe 10 more universities can boast of producing proper students. I've seen the videos of some University students making all sort of blunders.

Just as there are 4 or 5 Polytechnics in Nigeria that produce proper students better than some universities. Yabatech, Laspotech and I've heard Ilaro and Auchi are pretty good.
