Went at JAMB 4 times, scores swinging from 180 to 230, but Unilorin never gave me a shot. It's one of those tough times in life. Watching peers with lesser skills make it while I was home felt like losing. I took a different path, joined Kwara Poly, and graduated with distinction.

Tried direct entry into Unilorin, but they slammed the door in my face AGAIN. Even friends with Upper Credit got through. I was in a cafe, seeing parents pulling strings for their kids' post-JAMB, and it hit me – it's about WHO you know, not WHAT you know.

I didn't have connections. My folks don't play politics, or lick people's asses and I got that from them.

I aced my HND with Upper Credit. I joined where I did my NYSC training, got hired right away. I've got skills I'm confident of. But when I seek better opportunities, even with my certs, it feels like I've wasted life. I'm starting to feel like a charity case at work. Lose this job, and I doubt I'd find the same pay. They're all about that BSc. I feel like a charity case, and it stings.

HND isn't always about not meeting entry requirements. You might not get it if you're not an HND holder. Nobody wants to be treated like a second-class citizen. The discrimination is real, and it's a mental battle.

Man I feel genuinely bad for you because I had a similar experience. I sat for JAMB, got 214 when JAMB was actually JAMB. I remember we were about 4 or 5 in my class of 26 that passed the 200 mark.

I adored The University Of Ibadan so much and so I had UI as my choice and I sat for the post UTME. I can't remember my score but I did fairly well. And then I was denied, I remember I was so heartbroken. Weeks after, my mom calls me and tells me they're paying to get admission into UI, she got the information from one of her friends, an Oba in Ibadan. We couldn't afford what they were paying back then, plus such an act is against my dad's "principles" and so I had to let go.

I was the type of guy who planned out his entire life 😅 and the first step was to leave home for school at 18. UI, my dream, became my obstacle so I decided to settle for the "lesser UI", The Polytechnic, Ibadan. MISTAKE. Direct Entry didn't work as well so I went on to finish up HND. I eventually lost interest in school education. Instead of my school notes, I'd read books outside my syllabus and field.

Even though my command of the English language is close to perfection, with a touch of phonetics from my secondary school, despite my impressive knowledge and philosophy on Economics, Science, Politics, Arts, Anything! I still see that discrimination. I sometimes see them fighting that mental battle how man is not matching certificate lol

I went through your posts and my claims are not refuted. I see how you think even in moments of passion, I'm confident that you didn't attend any of the top 20 Unis in Nigeria and even if you did by accident, it's probably some insignificant course.

To be clear, I'm not one for changing HND to BSC, because the HND is suppose to serve a different purpose in our society, so a revamp of the programme is what is required and that's a discussion for another day.

What if I told you I went to a Polytechnic and from the way you think, I can tell I'm more intellectually sound than you. You actually don't know what a pun means because that's CLEARLY not a pun.

At least mention the schools. UI, UNILAG and maybe 10 more universities can boast of producing proper students. I've seen the videos of some University students making all sort of blunders.

Just as there are 4 or 5 Polytechnics in Nigeria that produce proper students better than some universities. Yabatech, Laspotech and I've heard Ilaro and Auchi are pretty good.

Well, age is just a number like they say. At 26, I’ve seen some messed up things that some 40 year olds have not/may not see. And also, I’m not really hopeful for the future.

Here are my reasons

My dad is a man who drinks alot to the extend we the children are embarrassed for him because we can't go to functions he goes to... because as he goes, he comes back in a different way.

So we do everything possible to avoid where he is at, but on some occasions we cant..depends on how close the celebrant is. Then we bore it in mind that that day we might get to hear something that offends us.. the shame and embarrassment and might retaliate or ignore.


Being one of the senior men alive, they always come to pay homage everytime despite being the way he is..to settle dispute and to also pray for them.. and also tell them about history how we related and mention names of our forefathers, tracing back their Roots step by step..he knows all..because his father also told him. so they respect him for that as an elderly man even though dry gin is his best friend. all they can do was to talk and laugh behind his back. When he's sober they dare not make jest of him.
I repeat they dare not.


But now he's been dead about 4years ago and I tell you we that normally get the first invitation of marriage ceremony or any functions happening in the extended family no longer gets invited.

Nobody has come in to ask hwfar from us the children since he was buried. They see us as not important since the elderly man is no more.

Our family house that used to trooped in by different new faces almost every week don't see it no more

The thing is that during those period we don't even take it as anything. Instead we the children gets angry whenever they comes to inform him for a function because we know that week we will not sleep at night...but as it has its advantages so those it has it disadvantages.

Africa had warriors but they weren't the conquer type warriors. We never advanced in our security because we never had to fight any major wars on a uniformed front. The thing about paying citizens I.e unemployment benefit is that it’s usually not enough to even make one get by and so it forces MOST to eventually get a job. In Nigeria, this can help solve the general panic and at the same time still ginger the workforce. As a young guy, seeing my gs riding Benz is enough for me to not rely on N20k so I go out to work.

But the fact that we’re not even getting any benefits at all means they’re after our lives. They want everybody to panic like cavemen hustle for jobs, including those that actually don’t want to work and would have been satisfied with the 20k will heap on the pressure.

1. Have you ever noticed how when the same "white" people move to Nigeria, even with the disadvantage of not being raised in Nigeria , they easily find ways to adapt and mingle than Nigerians do when they go abroad? Ever wondered why?

2. Don't expect everyone's jokes to appeal to you. That is where learning about them and what interests they have come in. For example, I had problems mingling myself, and so several years ago I joined a city cycling club so I could do that, mingle. As i went out regularly on rides with club members and hung out with them even outside of the rides when I could, I started to gather the same interests they had, talk about many of the same things they did, and even find interesting many of the same things they were interested in. You can't socialize or mingle if you are not first willing to step outside of yourself.

3. I disagree with you since humans are social beings so at whatever age you find yourself here, you will definitely find those to socialize with if you are willing to step outside of yourself to do so.

I've not traveled out but I believe even if she's busy working most of the time, I'm sure at school they have extra curricular activities. Even at work, I'm sure they have social gatherings/events because I've heard whites are consciously worried about depression unlike Nigeria where some believe it's a myth.

The truth is I get where she is coming from especially in this Gen Z era. Even if they put this girl in Nigeria and took away all her childhood friends, she'd still not be able to make new friends here.
