PoliticsPolice Exposes Antics Of Fraudsters by baloney(op): 9:10am On Aug 26, 2015
Police in Adamawa on Tuesday warned the public against the antics of online fraudster ahead of the preparation for the recruitment of 10,000 policemen as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Command’s police public relations officer, DSP Usman Abubakar, gave the warning in a statement issued in Yola.

He warned prospective applicants to be careful of those who might want to use the opportunity to defraud them.

At a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Police Service Commission (PSC) in Abuja, Buhari warned that he will not tolerate any irregularities or extortion from the unemployed as the federal government plans to beef up police workforce with 10,000 new recruits.

“The public is hereby warned to be aware of online fraudsters. We are reliably informed that they are trying to take advantage of the recruitment information to defraud people of their hard earned money,” Abubakar was quoted in the statement.

He also threatened that the command is ready to deal with any commercial cyber cafe or computer centres found selling the unauthorised police recruitment forms.

The police spokesman explained that when the sale of the forms would begin, the public would be informed through appropriate media channels.

NAN gathered that some commercial cyber cafe and computer centres in Yola and its environs, were already making profits from downloading the alleged police recruitment forms on the internet.

Don’t negotiate with Boko Haram, ACF warns FG
on august 25, 2015 at 5:41 pm in news
Facebook Share Twitter Share
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the Federal Government to shelve any plans to dialogue with the Boko Haram insurgent group arguing that such efforts may be an exercise in futility.
According to a former Inspector General of Police who is also the ACF Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie, previous attempts at a peaceful resolution of the prolonged Boko Haram insurgency did not yield the desired results.
Coomasie who spoke at a press conference in Kaduna yesterday also chided Igbo elders and leaders for allegedly failing to condemn those promoting the revival of Biafra.
He said that government should sustain its current onslaught against the Boko Haram insurgents noting that, “so far, so good, things are going on as they should and very soon, we who’ll finish with Boko Haram.
“If you recall, the Federal Government in the past proposed a dialogue and even set up a mediation group but the so called dialogue collapsed.
“There had also been other issues including a ceasefire agreement which the Boko Haram and even the Federal Government described as false.
“So, with the way things are happening, is it now we should talk of dialogue and who is asking for dialogue in the first place?
“During the last one year, the ACF has made concerted efforts aimed at bringing to the notice of both the northern states and the Federal Government, the killings and other atrocities being perpetrated by the Boko Haram and their collaborators.
“We had put pressure on both the Federal Government and the northern states governments, urging them to save the lives of our people by acting fast and decisively to stop the insurgency.”
The ACF leadership lashed out at elders from the south east over reported renewed agitations for the creation of the Biafra Republic.
According to Coomasie, “the ACF has observed with serious concern the continued agitation by some Ndigbo elements for the creation of Biafra Republic out of the present Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“It is sad and unfortunate that 45 years after the civil war when Nigerians are now united in a democratic system of governance, some elements are busy drumming the idea of another war and secession, through Radio Biafra and MASSOB activities.
“The agitators for this unholy division are in their safe abode outside Nigeria and are openly campaigning in foreign countries.
“The moist painful aspect of this agitation by some young Ndigbo elements I’d the deaf ear and silence from the elders who experienced the bitter pill of the secession attempt.
“The ACF expects Ndigbo leaders to come out and condemn such agitations just as they and others condemned and berated the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east region.
“We cannot afford to transit from one insurgency into another and the ACF therefore calls upon the Ndigbo leaders and groups to come out, not only to condemn but to publicly dissociate themselves from this act of treason against the state by some disgruntled Ndigbo elements.”

SportsPremier League Transfer Spending This Summer Reaches £500m by baloney(op):
Transfer spending in the Premier League has reached £500m this summer, £335m short of last summer's total with four weeks until the transfer deadline.

Raheem Sterling's move to Manchester City for an initial fee of £44m has been the highest so far.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted at a "surprise" signing despite spending £83m already.

"A new record is likely as clubs look to benefit from the new TV deal," said football finance expert Rob Wilson.

The transfer window shuts at 18:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September.

Starting from 2016-17 the Premier League TV rights deal increases from £3.018bn to £5.136bn for three seasons.

The bottom club will pocket £99m per season with the champions earning more than £150m in prize money, even before extra money is paid for featuring in a TV match.

Financial analysts Deloitte said the £500m milestone had been reached last Friday.

In addition to Van Gaal's "surprise", Premier League champions Chelsea are reportedly interested in Everton's John Stones with a £26m bid turned down, while Manchester City have been linked with Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne - all deals which could substantially increase the current figure.

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 live: "I think Manchester United are going to go massive on someone again, they need a centre-forward."

The 2014-15 season saw £965m spent across the summer and January transfer windows - but Sheffield Hallam University lecturer Wilson believes there is potential for a record spend across the season.

He also thinks that the new BT Champions League deal worth £897m starting this season has been a factor behind the summer spending.

"What's driven clubs to spend, is not necessarily just Premier League money, but BT entering the Champions League market," added Wilson.

Reports put earnings at £9m for clubs reaching the group stages, with the winners receiving £70m.

Wilson says that although a new record looks set to be broken this summer, he thinks that clubs' net spend might be down as they seek to stay within Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

"Manchester United have spent £83m this summer, which is fairly reasonable after spending £59.7m on Angel Di Maria last season," said Wilson.

"If they recoup about £45m for selling Di Maria to Paris St-Germain, they could sign Pedro from Barcelona and their net transfer spend would still be pretty modest."

Liverpool have spent £32.5m on Christian Benteke, but waited until they received funds from Sterling's record-breaking sale.

"We are seeing clubs being sensible, partially because of FFP," Wilson added. "Fiscal responsibility is becoming routine, and although clubs were resistant before, now they are seeing the benefit of being more frugal.

"It's a good move for football in general."

EducationKogi Approves N276,769,400 For 2015 WAEC Candidates In Kogi by baloney(op): 1:08pm On Aug 21, 2015
Gov Idris Wada of Kogi State has approved the reimbursement of N276,769,400 to eligible candidates that sat for the 2014/2015 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the WAEC Fees Refund Committee, Ibrahim Odoma, a total of 24,172 candidates were certified eligible to benefit from the funds released by the governor.
Mr. Odoma said a seven-man committee headed by Hajiya Maryam Ladi Ibrahim, had earlier screened the list of WAEC candidates from across public schools in the state with a view to ascertaining the actual number of eligible beneficiaries.
He said each beneficiary is to be refunded the sum of N11,450 which was the amount their parents had earlier paid for their registration.
It would be recalled that governor Wada had earlier promised to reimburse parents who paid for the 2014/2015 WAEC fees for their children and wards following the suspension of fees payments by government in order to ascertain the actual beneficiaries as well as amount involved.
The government was forced to suspend the payment last year following some alleged fraud leading to a demand of about N500million from government, which represented a huge difference against the figures paid in the previous years. The benefiting schools are now been issued bank draft to cover for students who are certified to have paid.
Parents and educationists across the state have continued to hail the decision of the government to redeem its promise to parents in the state through the refund of WAEC fees.
A foremost educationist, Chief Obaholo Kayode Osu said the governor’s action has helped to restore the confidence of Kogi people in his administration. He said the gesture of the Wada Administration will help to encourage parents to continue to enroll their children in school, having been assured of government’s support.
“What the governor has done will surely reinforce our advocacy for universal education as parents will be confident of enrolling their wards in schools with strong believe that the government will support their education.
This is a welcome development and we hope the governor will leverage on this popular decision by looking into the pension of retired teachers to encourage those in active service to continue to give their best. We are aware a lot of reforms are going on in that sector as we hope to start reaping the fruits of the reforms soon”, he said.

By Kingsley Fanwo
Chairman of the Kogi State Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty Idakwo Ameh Oboni II, Attah-Igala of Igala Kingdom has appealed to political leaders and their supporters in the state to embrace peace ahead of the November governorship election.
The Royal Father made this call in an exclusive chat with Vanguard, saying the future of the state should be the primary concern of all Kogi people. He said the traditional institution will continue to preach peace in the state.Inline image.
“I want to appeal to our politicians to always ensure we do not breach the peace of the state. I urge them to conduct their electioneering in such a way that the people will know they love the state and want peace for her people. Any politician that preaches violence does not want the good of the state.
“We will continue to use our institution to promote peace in the society and we want all Kogi people to buy into the peace project. This is our state. These are our people. The spirit of sportsmanship should always reflect in whatever we do so that we can have a Kogi we will all be proud of.
Supporters of politicians should conduct themselves in a way that at the end of the day, Kogi will be the ultimate winner.
The traditional ruler also decree attacks of the people of Kogi State by herdsmen, calling on the Commissioner of Police and heads of other security agencies to step in to secure Kogi people from attacks.
In his words, “it has become imperative for the security agencies in the state to protect our people from herdsmen who attack and even maim innocent people on their farms. I am aware the security agencies are trying their best to ensure security and I commend them for that. We will be looking forward to a more proactive response to flashes of insecurity across the state”, he said
The Attah Igala also thanked the Igala people for their continued support to the Kingdom, saying the Igalas are great contributors to the Nigerian project. He said the Igala people are industrious and peaceful, assuring that the Kingdom will continue to contribute to the development of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Igala people all over the world has excelled in their chosen fields. Why some are shaping the world of engineering and medicals; many others are making waves in other fields.
This testifies to the Igala spirit of excellence and we shall continue to excel anywhere we found ourselves. As the custodian of the Igala tradition, I shall continue to promote the very values that will ensure the development of Kogi State and Nigeria as a nation”, he assured.

…Visa suspected to have been forged-source By Soni Daniel & Victoria Ojeme As the probe panel raised by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe how a wanted terrorist obtained visa in Beruit, capital of Lebanon, to travel to the country, the Federal Government is considering summoning its ambassador to shed light on the development.
Specifically, the Charge de Affairs in Beruit is needed to clear the air on how the wanted man, Ahmed Al Assir, secured a Nigerian visa, who issued it to him and why. A top official of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Abuja confirmed to Vanguard that the ministry had sprung into action to get to the roots of the matter, which she described as ‘very embarrassing’ to the government and people of Nigeria. It was learnt that the decision to summon the envoy arose following the discrepancies contained in the man’s documents. Although key government officials looking into the matter have sufficient reasons to believe that the visa used by the man who also goes by the name Rami Adbul Rahman Taleb, was forged in order to escape arrest, they are worried about the implications of such development to the Nigerian visa and the image of the country. A source said: “We have gone far in carrying out the president’s directive to probe how the man came by the Nigerian visa but we want to be sure that the assignment is completed with accuracy and that the outcome will be able to block any attempt to tarnish the country’s image. “We are thinking of summoning our Charge de Affairs in Beruit if at the end of the day the materials we have on the ground are not enough give us all the answers to the questions raised by the Presidency on the matter. “On the other hand, if what we have is able to give us a breakthrough to what we need, then, we may not ask the envoy to come over to Abuja for more information on the issue,” the official said. Asked whether the Federal Government was contemplating recalling its envoy from Beruit over the development, the official, made it clear that it was a mere summon to enable the official to assist the government in the current probe and nothing more. Vanguard learnt that the probe team headed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bulus Lolo, had already questioned many key officials of the ministry in and outside Nigeria with a view to submitting a comprehensive report on the issue to the Presidency. Contacted, the Spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Mr. Odeh Ogbole, confirmed that investigation into the matter had commenced in earnest but declined to give details of what had been done.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered an investigation into how the Lebanese got the Nigerian visa found in his passport. There were fears that the development, which has rattled Nigeria, might lead to a major shake in the Nigerian immigration Service and the foreign ministry.

PoliticsHow We Can Federate Nigeria by baloney(op): 11:47am On Aug 18, 2015
Two weeks ago, I asked a question- Who Will Federate Nigeria ? It was actually a rhetorical question which was prompted by recent happenings in the polity which exposed deficiencies in our current federal set up. One of these recent happenings is the issue of unpaid salaries which has caused so much pain to individual families. Having asked that question, it seems to me that I have a duty to answer it and this piece will provide some ideas on how we can federate Nigeria. The issue of unpaid workers salary is a national emergency. It is not an issue localized to a region. It is not an All Progressive Congress or Peoples Democratic Party issue. It is a Nigerian issue and it is an issue that deserves urgent and important action. Throwing money at the issue is not the solution. In fact, it may even worsen the situation. States must be independent of the Federal Government. President Muhammadu Buhari means well and should be applauded by all for the bailout package he recently put together for the states. But what happens when those bailout funds are spent and the fundamental issues that caused the inability of several states to pay their workers is still not addressed? If the states do not develop their capacity to generate funds independent of the Federal Government, it is only a matter of time before the FG has to intervene again. The issue of unpaid salaries is but an urgent reminder that we need to reform our revenue allocation system and devolve powers and responsibilities from the federal government to the states and local governments. The current revenue allocation formula where the Federal Government gets 52% of national revenues while the 36 states get 26.72% and Local Governments get 20.60% is in need of a change. It was rather inconvenient to bring this subject up during the electioneering period but now is an expedient time to address it. The Nigerian federal government is too big and powerful to the extent that one has to be tongue in cheek to call our federal government federal. The word federal indicates that a system of government is in place whereby several states form a unity but remain independent in internal affairs.
