You have not said anything about this project. It is better to read about it and understand what it entails before you attack it. I am one of the critics of this government and this is one project I am also very interested in and I personally know the Chief Technical officer to the FG on this project. The project is being funded partly by FG and German govt. Covid caused a delay, hence timelines have changed. The goal is to increase our generating, transmitting and distributing capacity to 25GW in like 7 years. It is on 3 phases with phase 1 starting this Feb. There is a SPV overseeing the project thus making it to last beyond this government. I am remotely involved as I am presently doing analysis of collections and remittance since 2015 till date so that we can compare results after interventions such as this. It is the only pathway for improved electricity supply in Nigeria. Electricity is very complicated tuanany of us think. The Engineering of it is for the best who understand power system. The economics of it is very complicated that even with my years of understanding electricity Markets, I am still learning. We don't have professionals that understand power system in Nigeria and this is why we don't have light. The liquidity problem being experienced in NESI attests to this fact. We only see wires and poles, but men in advanced economies, there is derivative trading in electricity. As we transits to a competitive retail electricity market, we need Siemens to expand our infrastructure for us. It is not cheap. It costs an average of 1m USD to produce 1 MW. So, we need foreign investments. So much to say, but let me stop here. But if you feel you understand Power very well, let's engage here.

YOU WROTE NONSENSE IN NICE ENGLISH. The plants are already bought by private sectors and FG just want to sell their remaining shares as part of the power sector privatization. These plants have been operating better than when they are under FG. Investment in the power industry is huge and Nigeria needs private investment if we want to have a stable electricity. In the last two years, FG has paid over 600b in subsidy and capacity payments and this is not sustainable.
You made mention of United state postal service making a loss of over 70b dollars over the years and it is not sold......70b dollars is like our 2 years budget that we even have to borrow to finance. Can we take such a loss as a country?

If you are saying we should not engage the private sector, I wonder how you want Nigeria to grow especially when there is no single business or enterprise handled by the govt that has made any progress. And , please don;t compare us to those European nations that are heavily taxed and have social safety for their people. Decentralise the grid; let each state have their own electricity market, and them there can be inter-state trading where those who have excess can sell to those who need on intra day, or day ahead basis.

Power above a particular MW generated anywhere in this country must be fed into the national grid and then redistributed to different part of the country.
This is a disincentive for private sectors to invest in our energy sector.
Let the power sector be completely decentralised including transmission. Let each state or region have their own independent energy policy if they choose to without Abuja breathing on their neck.
Places like Brass and cannanland in Ota are not connected to national grid and they enjoy uninterrupted power supply. Why can't such be replicated on a larger scale in other parts of the country.
States like Lagos, Rivers and Anambra should be able to attract investors into their power sector because they know they will get good ROI.
The reality now is Nigeria cannot afford 24/7 electricity for everybody. But some regions can push the frontier for regular power supply which will be a catalyst for industrial growth in such areas.
That's what we need now, not necessarily 24 hours power supply for the whole nation.

Nigeria does not need 200,000MW......Population is not the main factor, though it is a variable, load demand is what determines the required MW to be dispatched. Today we have installed capacity of 13,000 MW and we can only wheel about 6,000 MW. The implication is that we are making CAPACITY PAYMENTS to Gencos as eshrined in the PPAs we signed with them because we can't make use of their full capacity which to them is huge financial investments tied down. People who don't know about the power industry talk about population as a determinant of the needed megawatt, but power engineers and those who are real professionals in the industry don't think this way. What is our load demand as a nation? We just need like 25,000MW now and we will be okay as we don't really have many heavy duty industries besides the fact that our wheeling and distribution capacity can't even cope with the 6000 MW we hover around now.

But with Bsc only, and 6666 in IELTS, you are ineligible and aint going no where.

That is why we tell people to focus on having 8777 to be safe and so that they can at least enter the pool even though their CRS scores may not be high enough.

So whether you have Bsc, 2 or more certificates or masters, just focus on having 8777 to be on a safer side. Or if your power can carry you, max out.

Abroad people call me every weekend asking me to send money (not bragging). Many of them are frustrated over there. They work long hours including overtime but the government takes federal, state, city, social security, medicare, medicaid and disability taxes. On top of that, when they buy biscuit, they will still take sales tax. They pay exorbitant rent; those who "own" homes are locked in a loan repayment for 30yrs of which they still have to pay annual taxes for their house. Phone bill can cost over $60 per line, cable $120, internet $80 and they still pay tax on top of it. Burger and chips with soft drink can easily cost you $16 plus tax.

Sure some folks are making over $100,000 theoretically especially healthcare workers in expensive states like California and new York, but by the time they deduct all those taxes from their check, they are left with just $40,000. Then they still have to pay more taxes on every thing they buy. That's not life. It's like a rat wheel, oscillating but not making any progress. I have a cousin who was in the same situation in America, after 10yrs working as a social worker, he returned home and we started up a business. He still regrets all the years he spent slaving away in America. Today, he travels the world on vacation and visiting places he didn't even have time to visit when he was living abroad. It's not too late for Nigerians living abroad to return home; you can make it big here with less stress and you will extend your life span.
