STEP 3: EDUCATION REVIEW

In this step, you will need to provide information about the schools you attended. There are four categories or types of schools CGFNS needs to know about:

*Primary schools

*Secondary schools

*Professional schools : This includes your nursing and midwifery schools. Only your nursing school education is evaluated by cgfns. They don't need your midwifery, A and E, peri op post basic certificates so save yourself the time and money needed to send them over because they won't be acknowledged. Focus only on your nursing credentials and forget your other qualifications.

*post secondary non professional schools : This includes training that is not related to health care.

so lets discuss..how was it in your first year?.what courses did you take in your first year?.what are the list of text books that were useful to you?
Ross and wilson anatomy textbook should be your second Bible. It was very helpful to me

how was your first year
it was challenging at first, especially the first clinical rotation. Everyone will make you feel like you choose the wrong profession. What annoyed me most was the way nurses were being looked down on starting from the doctor, the patient and their relatives to even the charge nurses in the hospital. I learnt early that Nurses eat their young. I remember telling my mum that i don't want to be a nurse anymore but she encouraged me. Mumsi is a nurse too, it got better with time. I even got the Florence Nightingale Award cool grin i am not trying to scare anyone o, I just think its important to be mentally prepared to handle the pressure that comes with the profession before you hand over your life to it

The most important thing though is to believe in yourself, if nursing is what you are called to do then look it in the face and do it.

First year was incredibly different from high school. It was stressful but extremely beautiful as well. Learnt so many things about myself -values, beliefs, stereotypes, strengths and weaknesses. I learnt to set goals and work toward them. I even made a blog post about it (its currently unavailable). I changed my lifestyle towards a more healthier one (still working on it though).
Nursing is really stressful but every time I help patients in need, I am reminded why I want to be a nurse in the first place.

I also took a lot of courses during my first year.

I found a book by Arnold& Boggs really helpful ( too lazy to go get it ) but it was on interpersonal relationships. Nursing fundamentals and co.

CC: barbiee , thearchangel

Would you guys like to share the reasons why you became nurses?
Nursing was a perfect fit for my personality. I love the helping, caring, healing and nuturing part of nursing. It is also very lucrative abroad and i can travel the world and never be out of job.

What type of advance education does one need to become a nurse manager? Does a person need to take a course in BA or are there specific courses to study?
I think you need a masters degree and some years of experience. 5 years and above. Nurse managers are the matrons in the ward.

What's the problem?

CGFNS has accepted my application finally without the nursing council

Maybe we could resolve it without the nursing council? Unless we just have to do with the nursing council
WITHOUT NURSING COUNCIL? How is that even possible?

Let me quickly tell you the things you will need if you want to "shapen" your eyebrow, some call it "draw" your eyebrow..

an eye pencil..if you are fair in complex pls stop using dark eye pencil...the color of your pencil should be "color 40" and for a dark person your pencil color is "color 03"

A concealer: the lighter shade of you and your match color

A spoolie brush

optional: an eyebrow filler.
I have been looking for color 40 eye brow pencil here in warri all to no avail, they only have color 3 and 18.. And some others that are close to red.

Questions are from Kaplan study guide. Please quote each question when providing the answer.

1. A 14 year old girl newly diagnosed with diabetes is preparing for discharge. Which of the following activities BEST describes the nurse's role as a client advocate?

1. Arranging for a visit with a home health nurse.
2. Providing written medication instructions to the client's parents
3. Instructing the client to follow up with her provider in 4 weeks
4. Teaching the client how to administer insulin shots.

Answer.
Category : Advocacy

1. Arranging for a visit with a home health nurse may be important in the overall management of this client's care, but does not directly assist in teaching the client the necessary skills to manage her diabetes.
2. Providing a written medication instructions to the client's parents may be important in the overall management of this client's care, but does not directly assist in teaching the client the necessary skills to manage her diabetes.
3. Instructing the client to follow up with her provider in 4 weeks may be important in the overall management of this client's care but does not directly assist in teaching the client the necessary skills to manage her diabetes
4. Teaching the client how to administer her own medication is the best example of the nurse's role as a client advocate because this action directly helps the client develop self advocacy skills. CORRECT.
