Katsumoto: But surely you are going to educate on the military prowess of Ndigbo in the 18th, 14th, or any century for that matter.

Soon one of your sons will be here to boast about the slave raiding exploits of the Arochukwu.
no but we cant boast of fighting local champions like yorubas but we can boast of fighting combine nations in the civil war plus 30 years war with british invaders. nothing the yorubas know of or have experienced.

Da infamous: sad sad sad sad sad this Hausa just used awolowa and his region for nothing to gain...only yoruba person that smell power after .B. war was OBJ other was jailed and killed in the process....
yea because obj was the only yoruba slave rescued by an igboman (Ekwueme ) from the hands of hausa/fulanis the same obj served.

veraponpo: This was what your forefathers did in the 60s that wasted the lives of over 3milion ibos. You have started again. The last time I checked Yorubas are still the set of richest people in Nigeria. We control the wealth of this nation by holding the big companies and entities, we are the main professionals the country has from Accounting, to Law, to medicine, to pharmacy, to Enginering, etc . Apart from Dangote and his cousing Dantata both from the North and few Ibo people you think about the rich you remember the Yorubas so what is your problem or mention the ibos in the class of the follwoing:
1. Mike Adenuga;
2. Shubomi Balogun;
3. Obaotudeko;
4. Harry Akande;
5. Dende Fanades;
6. Deji Adeleke;
7. Femi Otedola;
8. Jimoh Ibrahim;
9. The Ogulesis;
10. Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, etc Cant even finish them. So what is your problem, and if we check now, u work in a company owned by Yoruba man or woman or u stay on our land. foolish set of people born to be a stranger.
what do all these people have in common? yes they are politicians or are using stolen nigerian funds , besides igbos alone make up 40 percent of top richest nigerians and igboland have the least poverty and least illiteracy out of all the regions in nigeria. yorubas have nothing to boast of except free oil money coming from the nigeria delta and being lucky of having the former capital of nigeria lagos, every other part of yorubaland is worst than chad and somali.

T9ksy: @ Bolded,

Yeah right, like ojukwu had in mind for the yorubas when he sent his BLF down to the western region?

No wonder you ibos hates us so much 'cause we refused to be ojukwu's conquered territory at Ore.

Tough luck! deal with it & move on.
Secondly the north literally begged Awolowo not to declare Oduduwa Republic and go the way of Biafra even though that was his original intention. Thirdly if it hadn't been for Col. Obasanjo (as he then was) who was stationed as Commanding Officer in Ibadan at the time the Biafran forces, under the command of the gallant yoruba officer Col. Banjo, would have entered and swept into the west at Ore and the war would have been over very quickly. They sent Professor Wole Soyinka to Obasanjo and asked for safe passage but Obasanjo refused.

chrisxxx: Is this not the 'One Nigeria' my father fought as an Ikwerreman to defend and if need be to pay the utmost sacrifice? I weep. It pains me. The Ikwerre people misunderstood the Ibos. This was because before the war we saw them {Ibos} as our second colonial masters. They had conquered us and had cornered our lands. We wanted liberation. It became a case of your enemy's enemy is your friend. On this assumption we supported the north, not just we wanted 'One Nigeria' but we wanted freedom from internal colonialism. The leopard can never live without its spots. God save us you created us a minority in contagion with a barbaric majority.
na God did not create ikwerres a minority , he created you a majority igbo but some of you decided to degrade yourselves to minority . leave God out of this. there will always be a dominant group even whithin same ethnic groups.

Aigbofa: You and your half baked intellectual balderdash. Yoruba the weakest link? Where did you get that from? Yoruba is the glue holding Nigeria together, when we decide it's over, it's over.
keep deceiving yourself, ,kogi is gone , kwara don go. this is an open threat and yorubas are in nigeria because they fear the hausas/fulanis and not because they are enjoying it.

geeez: Well I didn't realize you are such a slowpoke so I'll break down what I meant.

An underemployed person doesn't quality as a unemployed person. So my point is that the unemployment rate can be low but because their income is low, the poverty rate is still substantial.

So now that you've given us the poverty figure for Ousn, can you also post that of Enugu? And why are you now basing your argument in stats when you wrote earlier that they arent objective?
mumu you still dont get it , we know what underemployment is , the statistics are ridiculous, they claimed it was taken from house to house research and true public profiles, how ridiculous is that .

Mallam Nasir el-Rufa’i’s analysis of Anambra State’s 2012 budget lacked the objectivity and attention to available evidence needed for believable conclusions. He certainly got some data on physical and human geography and capped it with random and recondite statistics. This is all right where the targeting audience is foreign, especially if el-Rufa’i wants to later assemble the episodes in a book; as one suspects that he will eventually do. It will then be the seminal work of a good governance minded African – in principle at least.

El-Rufa’i’s claims about poverty in Anambra State is the exact opposite of the truth. This is evident in the Poverty Profile Report of the National Bureau of Statistics, published in the Punch Newspaper of February 14, 2012. Corroboration can be found in the congruence of government efforts and the self reliance driving the state’s economy. Dr. Magnus Kpakol, as head of the national poverty eradication programme, said as much on December 31, 2010. This was during the flag-off of the payment of the Poverty Reduction Accelerator Investment and second phase of the Care of the People (COPE) programme, when he urged other state governors to emulate Anambra.

El-Rufa’i used faulty data which had been officially brought to the attention of the Minister of National Planning, Minister of Finance, the Vice-President and the National Economic Council. Is it not curious that the source of El-Rufa’i’s statistics shows Anambra to be poorer than Yobe, Taraba and Sokoto States?

By VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA— THE minister of National Planning and Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, yesterday said in Awka that Anambra was one of the few states in the country with the lowest level of unemployment. He attributed the situation to the entrepreneurial capability of the people of the state.

Speaking during the flag –off of the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, computation in Nigeria, for the South East geo-political zone, the minister said with about 10% unemployment rate, Anambra was one of the least among the 36 states in the country.

According to him, “the reason is not far–fetched because the people of the state are very resourceful, adding that rather than continue to seek employment, they are mainly employers of labour”.

The three major cities in the state which are Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi have great potentials for economic transformation of the country. While Onitsha is well known for commerce, Awka and Nnewi are famous for black smiting and industrial development respectively.”

The minister described Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy, ANIDS, policy as similar to the federal government’s Transformation Agenda and explained that he would study the operation of ANIDS because it had helped to fast track the development of the state.

He said: “We don’t have objective statistics in this country because we don’t have objective data for measuring economic activities. What often happens is that a governor with goodwill in the media usually gets favourable assessment as a great performer, which is wrong. It is not clear how the media arrive at such assessment since there can only be an accurate statistics if there is available accurate data.”

The Minister explained that the choice of Awka for the flag off of the GDP computation project for the South East was in recognition of the leadership qualities of Governor Peter Obi who he noted had demonstrated commitment to sound economic management, accountability and transparency.

@^^ There's no such thing as "splitting the country on terms that are favourable to every group".What exactly is "favourable"? Everyone will have to re-alighn their politics/economic/cultural "desires"/affinities. I am genuinely worried/concerned about our very tiny(population) minorities being pushed into unions that are not wholesome/desireable perhaps. The rest will have to go back to their "homelands" and we can agree on basic "international" protocols governing business, travel or cooperation. Sincerely, I do not foresee war as most people preclude. Why would I want to fight a Kanuri because he/she wants to be on their own because of "oil", fish" or some other minerals. It is not easy to decide to go to war over something that's clearly not yours nor within close proximity to your territory. Somehow, some of our national looters and their cohorts have managed to sell the propaganda that they "love Nigeria" more than their own mothers yet they are the most unpatriotic by their actions and consumption patterns. They have a need/vested interest in the status quo. They preclude national conversation which doesn't necessarily imply break-up of the so called federation after all they have cobbled up a system that is inherently corrupt and favourable to their 'lootocratic' mind set/actions. Sadly, the looters come from everywhere in the federation minority or majority ethnic group. There will be "winners" or "losers" but that depends on the mind set/perception/creativity of the people involved. Nations have survived without "oil" etc. What are we afraid of angry?

Notwithstanding, please do not forget that there are millions of Igbos living outside of the SE who have businesses and investments in other regions. Breaking up Nigeria may not automatically mean that a vibrant new country will be established in the SE. Many of these individuals who live outside the SE will probably prefer to have permanent residency status in Lagos/Kaduna etc. and visit Biafra, their home country, only during the Christmas.....

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has directed local governments in the state to maintain and protect the land recovered from squatters.

Obi gave the directive on Sunday while inspecting the Onitsha-Enugu Federal Highway undergoing reconstruction and expansion.

He also charged local government councils to ensure that the entry and exit points of the Onitsha Bridge remained clean always.

The governor said his administration would ensure that the recovered areas were not encroached upon again.

All measures humanly possible to make the squatters not to return will be pursued with vigour,’’ he said, stressing that the land recovery effort would also be extended to cover Onitsha North, Onitsha South and Ogbaru areas.

Obi added that the recovered areas would be beautified with flowers and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the new 10-lane Onitsha-Enugu Federal highway. (NAN)
