I have taken time to go through most comments on the issue and ii see nothin Racist or Nepotic in THEM. All what the other posters have commented on does not show any sign of favourism or abhorrence for any section of the Nigerian People.

I like SMF because it has unquantifiable loads of themes and Mods, I downloaded & ran some themes/Mods recently on my webserver, and you wont believe what my smf turned into. Vbulletin isnt free but powers the biggest forums around.

I am gradually falling inlove with phpbb3, Joomla is headache for now. There are a whole lot of other CMSes that will do the job just as much as phpbb, vbull or SMF.

if you want to see what a real University portal looks like,  try the website of Pace university in New york.

I had an admission there some years back and all my processes were done online, my registration, accommodation, class scheduling, orientation sessions. Everything was online.

Once I got the admission, I was allocated my user name and password, and everything I needed to do was on my page.

The process is so integrated that from the start of online reg/application to completion of the university programme, everything is done online.

To Date there is no University in Nigeria that has such a portal. Am cock Sure.

Poster, this is not webkid job. If you can do it, then take your values worth (like 100M) if you can't, then don't dabble. If you ask me, it's going to be an on going project.

Reason:
It is going to actually require the automation of the entire university system, intergrating admin ERP and all. I also don't expect that students will have to keep going to cybercafes to check their results or do their assignments while still on campus. They shoud have the computers in their rooms!,

What you just informed us here has again rattled me, 12yrs old girls getting married as entrenched in the same constitution that guides me as a nigerian?.

We that are lagosians and residents of lagos generally know we have the most elite and educated amongst us in Nigeria,  reason why we paceset.

It is an abhorance to have a child hawk in Lagos.

I know the state government has it in mind that the kids have to help make money for the household and school fees blah bla  blah, Reason they pegged it to after closing hrs just like okada-riding was pegged sometime back.

however, I beg to inform the State that as laudable as the idea is, it needs to go a step further to totally  BAN Hawking by kids, this kids are molested everyday. Some of them have been dealt with even more than the number of times their mothers have had it.

This is Real painful and awful,

If the government 'can go some length,  then they can go the full length,  ' I assure you that the parents or the kids wont die of hunger for not hawking!.

infact the name, HAWKING,   itself is an aberration,   HAWKER, HOOKER, terrible!

Let 'hawking' be punishment for SSCE grads (past 16) who don't pass their exams at 1st seating,

Yes you are right!

Government should start taking up its responsibilities especially to our kids. I Am feeling this Lagos administration, thats why am rattling on and on for things that can be done to better our lots, they can do it, what we need is change, for the better.

A child having to live STREETLIFE/ HAWK is as a result of the parents not performing their own responsibilities and the kid is cajoled to assist in providing for the home.

It is totally wrong. Its a wrong idea that should be rejected in all form, thats why we all need reorientation.

from this discuss,  we see that the situation is actually multifacet. however starting from an institution' like the kids (the foundation) will actually start putting an end to the wrong notion that kids should slave to live!.

I knew I was going to get that line of argument.

'Quality of life' is determined by the 'value given to life'. If you are opportuned to have gone to a school, only then can you be on nairaland discussing.

If you went to a good school, the reflections show in you,  your core values.

If the two of you must know, hawking is STREELIFE!!,  and on the streets, we've got kids and they,

get indulged in weeds, cigerattes, sex, abortion, pilfering and theivery, untimely deaths, bad attitudes & behaviours, loss of respect for older ones and authority and a whole lot more.

I have only asked that we don't expose these kids to Vices that can impair, both on them and the larger society. At 16, they are still forming a Life, thats the best time to shape them to what the society expects them to be. If you leave it to them to decide, we are all the worse for it,  as prevalent today!

When kids werent hawking, werent people living and going to school & surviving, ?

Hawking is CHILD ABUSE and sholud be banned in totality.

Banning only during school hours by government suggests that government supports CHILD LABOUR ( whether by the kids themselves or their parents/guardians).

This is wrong. Until we give value to our kids inrrespective of who their parents are, we will keep having ills in the society because these same kids will come to be tommorow.

My suggestions:

1. Total banning of Hawking for kids below 16yrs. Lagos should have a 'child legislation' (proper one of world class standard).

2. Compulsory & free education for kids until they are 16yrs of age. That is what some of what our taxes should do for us, if it isnt enough-then increase the taxes.

3. Total restructuring of the school system in the state.

4. Capital purnishment to erring parents and guardians. Strict adherance is what will solve these menance!

I have discovered that Nigerians Generally like to distance themselves from government and now claim neglect from government. We need reorientation in Lagos.

We also need discipline. I think more laws should be enacted to ensure cleaniness of Lagos. It is only when strictrules are in place that Nigerians tend to be serious with issues.

While we were in school, we were always debating on 'capital punishments by teachers on students', most of us never really liked the cane & other forms of capital punishment', but what would you have with the cane or even punishment if you are not culpable.

Capital punishment should be introduced to Lagos State to maintain law and order. If you are not culpable, you wont dread it. It the best way to ensure sanity and compliance. It will also ensure that the turn around for the state is effected in a very short time.

Singapore runs such and they are the better for it today.
