Nice one outlukbabe.

Many times I watch with dismay what Education has done to our polity especially the southern Nigerian people. It claims the cradle of knowledge and we are the most prominent on this Forum.

The ITK (I-Too-Know) syndrome is with us. We know everything & it is compulsory that we must chip in our views or any view at all just to let the world know we are learned, we know and are educated.

I must tell you, the same kind of people you find throwing chairs & kicking asses at the National Assembly are the same kind of people we have on this forum. They all ( Senators & Reps) were like this, believing in their brains, what they think they know but don't understand.

Please people, when you Argue, Learn to do so sensibly, or you'll end up like some of those assembly guys throwing chairs around.

Also, when you see some Good, please also learn to appreciate them. We all werent too bright in school for sure, but the encouragements we got, got many of us to where we are today. Let us learn to appreciate, RIBADU HAS TRIED.

IF TMRW COMES AND DORA IS PICKED, PLS REMEMBER HER GOOD DEEDS. NO ONE IS PERFECT NOT EVEN THE CONTRIBUTORS ON THIS FORUM.

Dont stay aloof and faraway to critisize. learn to Appreciate.

Thank you for your response and observation.

I have been using yahoomail and other free emailing systems just like most of us have had to at one time or the other.

I do not give out my personalised email addresses on public forums. The essence for having a personalised email address is for one to be able to monitor and manage mails and prevent spamming.

For my internet business that is run online, marketing is done on a free host (yahoo & gmail) however when the business starts having clients, such people will be moved to the more secured and personalised email.

If you doubt the fact that I have one, send a private mail to me and I will use my personalised email to reply you. it has the combination of my first and surname together, I have other ones too.

Main reason I dont give them on public forum is to prevent spams.

It was quite thoughtful of you to have noticed it, thanks.

So can we get back to selling my solution,

Hell Vina,

Can you please tell the house what exactly Da silva did, so that we can understand where you are coming from. It will be unfair for you to just label someone bad and expect us to tag along with you. It would even be fairer if Da silva is given an opportunity to explain his side.

Anythin is possible!

It is possible you didnt follow instructions as laid out to you by him, it is possible he sold you a fake programme or package but first you need to tell us exactly what transpired, only then can we decide to judge him.

Of course, definitely after hearing his side of the story.

Anyone who knows da silva should tell him, his good name is at stake on this section and he should come and clear himself before the forum members.

@ Moderator (uspry1),

Thank you for giving me another chance, like I said ealier, I erred and am sorry.

Niyi, Thanks for contributing, are you still in Ghana?. I read your blog regularly, hoping to link up to you soon.

It is only when competition is stiff in the industry that growth becomes eminent, level of expertise vary so much that, there really isnt any means of measuring quality and standard. I would suggest a means of certifying qualitative websites and their developers.

This can atually encourage growth for the sector.

@ mambenanje,

Thank you for your comments, and earlier advise. In as much as it isnt going to be child's play running a social network of our planned magnitude, however it is where the internet industry is turning to and we cannot afford to be left behind in global growth and development.

Venture Capital funds is not something that is very popular in Nigeria Yet, at least not in the areas of Web and Internet solution, which it is quite known for in The US. Virtually all known Majors in the internet and computer industry have grown through the support of venture capital funds, a very popular one is 'sequiao' or so, cant remember the name now. They have provided VC to google, yahoo and so many other internet startups and are reaping the fruits today.

In Nigeria, the only bank we see to be really supporting the ICT industry is Zenith Bank and I dont even think they provide VC funds for the ICT industry.

The area I really have trouble with is the proliferation of so many websites without traffic, then of what essence is the site building when you cant really get people to glueup or stick to your site.

Hello everyone, I have watched with rapt attention, the loopsided growth been experienced by website owners. This cannot in anyway encourage the growth of the internet industry in Nigeria. A situation where you have so many sites being developed and designed but without Traffic on them signifies frustration to the owner, who mostly built with the intention of providing services or products for an ROI.

Today, we have so many BLOGS, FORUMS & SOCIAL NETWORKS but still don’t get the kind of traffic we desire for our sites, look at a Web2.0 like legwork, deoluakinyemi on wordpress, Nairaland using SMF, davidajao's blog and so on, you will discover, just about 1 or 2 of the sites are actually generating any thing tangible in terms of traffic. It has been observed that it is not so much as the platform that is being used but finding how to generate traffic to such platforms/sites.

Too date, we still do not have a standard Social network can that boast of at least 1million Nigerians on its database. The closest we've gotten is I believe, seun's Nairaland forum, whereas, the likes of Facebook has over 100million people, including Nigerians. There are a host of others, even outside of the United States.

Our media companies that should hold the bull by the horn (as in the case of myspace.com), are fretting. We need to have a very formidable social Networks for Nigerians and by Nigerians. This need can cannot therefore be overemphasized as this is what will drive the engine into the new dawn expected for the Internet industry in Nigeria.

This brings me to the need to incorporate a new social network for the Nigerian People, I want responses from Nigerians on what they expect to see on this proposed Web2.0 site and how to grow it.

Also observe that the contribution now and thereafter is what will make the proposed project a reality. Recognition will be given to all participants.

Many thanks

AutosAnyone With A Laguna In The House by basking4me(op): 6:11pm On May 15, 2008
hello there, I got myself a Renault Laguna Last year. I fell in love with it the very first time I laid my eyes on a previous one I saw, Its sleek, cosy, sportish and my car actually Talks. The latest version is a state of the arts.

Now, I've been using the car for about a year now, no major repairs done except servicing. It serves me well and till date intrigues me at it's functionality. Its a v6 3liter engine, double air bags, ABS, metallic green, CD player with controls on the steering wheel, its also a hatch back giving it the sportish look.

The only problem I have with it for now is the language it talks in, I assume it's german, Please do we have people with lagunas in the house to discuss more on the wonder car of the century.

Where do you do your servicing and repairs, and is the gearbox actually going for 250k, ?> shocked

Thank you for your input 'Dangermouse', Well said, 'Ono' your inputs are well appreciated too. All we need is way forward. the onus falls on us to chat a way for the growth of every sector of our country. Ghanians wont come and do that for us nor will Even the UK do it.

We need to engage the services of the bold and courageous amongst us to chart a way forward, we can start the positive engagements from Nairaland here, I only dont want Seun to see us using this medium to achieving socio-political ends. He's a Nigerian too and am sure he wont be averse to the idea of using his platform to improving the lots of our people.

Thank you Debosky for your constructive comments on the thread, like I said on my first discuss of the topic, some people are just here to point accusing fingers. No matter what you tell them, all they are after is to down trod.

I wrote about non constructive criticism earlier, now we are having everything muddled up, the first time 'Uche2nna' is dishing out his best, the next time, he's saying somebody should tell his father to stop stealing,    what is that.

Does Nigeria belong to you alone such that all these things happening and those that have happened are only being felt by you Alone?, because you'll tell me now 'that the thing is paining you', thats why you are reacting so?, Realise that anyone that is President is a father to the people of the country irrespective of his tribal affinity, so if you call Obasanjo my brother or father, all well and good, but that makes him your father too since you're a Nigerian and not a Biafran.

Please all I have asked for is to be constructive and look at the problem, profer a solution and MOVE ON just as AFAM, Bluesky and Debosky are propagating, we dont need to brood over the problem for too long.

Our Elders say that ' he that tries to watch the stunts of the crab will wait endlessly by the seaside', we donot have to continue this way, what is the way forward should be our new song,
PoliticsRe: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by basking4me: 2:19pm On May 14, 2008
Hello Bluesky,

My submission is that, we should tread softly when we accuse our leaders, I can humbly tell you that many of the participants on this forum are people who are one way or the other related to the powers that be. it could go as far as being a friend uncles's sister husband thats the present senate president or permananet secretary.

It is true that the head bears the brunt for the body, but at the same time the head requires the support of the entire body to perform, thats how it is with goverment. If we continue to castigate our leaders the way we do, only mediocres will apply for political positions and people below you will get to leadership position.

There is nothing wrong with asking for accountabiltiy, but the mentality of labelling one as 'guilty as proclaimed' without hearing is the bane of the Nigerian public. We rush to conclusion, its a problem. We should be more humane to political discussions and our leaders. I see a lot of backstabbers everyday on TV, people who ate and dined with our leaders but when there are issues to deal with, solutions to be proffered (that is when they start looking at the problem)  they deny and castigate just to get to the headlines as not in support.
PoliticsRe: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by basking4me: 12:41pm On May 14, 2008
I have discovered that the adage that says 'the empty barrel makes the most noise' is really true for some post writers here on Nairaland on baba's statement and issues of national importance. This Man is a Patriot. While Nigerians were basking in the Euphoria of Obasanjo's NIPP, we forget that we are getting into worse situation per day, the equipments bought with your money are there decaying where they are kept, and the contractors that have collected billions already from us are the same people we are messing up all over the place. How you do expect them to continue their work or expect to get result from them. Will a refund be possible fro an already started work. Think aboutit,

Anyone one who has been involved in multi million/billion naira contract will know jobs like that take time, not even to mention the nigerian situation: ministry settlements, bank/insurance delay and diaapointments, areasboys or nigerdelta youths, and you, the empoyee or employer.

Just the other day, my Chinese friend here in Nigeria was lamenting that Nigerians are lazy at work, I assisted him with the needed work force for a contract. Go to china and see the way work is been done there. Checkout UK, if you're working, your'e working, do we need CCTV installed at the work place for us to perform our jobs. We all want is get to the top but no one wants to climb, sorry but humans dont fly.

The problem with us especially the youth is that all we do is whin and cry , things are bad nigeria is bad, what have you done to makeit good, you dont need to be president to do that , ?, All the while House Reps were factfinding and witchhunting, things were getting worse and nobody saw it. HABA, Nigerians. I have not seen in the past weeks of this discuss, any article offline or online that mentions the fact that the contractors be hastened up to complete their jobs or look at the loosing options for Nigeria.

The fact that baba is a two time ruler of this country goes to say alot. he should be given the respect due him. We thank God, now we have democracy, but even at that, we should exercise restraints when we discuss or handle issues of national importance. Politics is very much like religion or ethnicity , Volatile, Respect higher authority, either by age or position, it is only by doing so that we ourselves get elevated.

Those that say Obasanjo did this or that anomaly are the same people who never really want to be a part of progress of our nation, , those are the people we call never constructive critics. INSTEAD OF FINDING SOLUTION, THEY ARE BUSY LOOKING AT THE PROBLEM!.

You can check the following sites www.maritimeacademynigeria.org, www.kini-scores.com and also check www.akwaibomlegislature.gov.ng amongst others. The backends are run on php/mysql. The purpose of the handout is to introduce newcomers to Web development and the expert user to more technical and advanced tools on dynamic web solution.

The interesting thing there is the fact that with so many content management softwares available online to download from, its makes it all the more easier to build a dynamic web presence using php/mysql. People need to know how to setup a website from scratch (i.e no web designing skills)using free CMS and free php/mysql, thats the solution I am providing.

The Pictorial step by step handout is going at a give away price of #4,500 only. This will include a freesource Mysql/Php and Apache software on CD or Download, whichever is more convienient and a free CMS software. You will also get online support through my Chat ID: ayocatty@yahoo.com, either you use msn, aol, babuki or pidgin, they all work with yahoo.

I'll tell you that for such a person, it won’t be too bad if you give him/her up to #200,000. It's fair enough especially if the person is a graduate, he’d be thinking in the line of #300,000.00 and above because for you to get such a person with all that skills, he'd already be on his own making money for himself otherwise he's gonna bill you real good for his services.

Nigerians are gradually waking up the fact that the IT industry is here to stay and it is what will build our economy, lots of guys are making millions out there because they know one programme or the other, so getting somebody that knows Ajax, Php/mysql, JavaScript, dreamweaver, flash and other adobe packages will cost you money.

I am using the medium to introduce more Nigerians into programming and web development. There is serious money to be made in it. ….We can catchup with the Indians.

On your HP Laptop there is a small tag usually to the right, it has the sticker of the version of the O.S to use with the laptop, if you dont have a vista sticker then dont install a vista because it wont perfrom optimaly.

That is the problem, the laptop is not made for that particular OS. If you go to their site to download the drivers, they dont have!. dont bother. To Learn more call me on 08055824984, Wale.
ComputersRe: Networking Wtih Linux(clarkconnect) by basking4me: 1:01pm On May 06, 2008
Instead of using Clarkconnect that only acts as a cache server and router, why dont you get a SME server software on linux that will both run proxy, cache, email management, dhcp and dns and a host of others. It is what i use and I can assure you that it is the best Linux warez for both local and wide networking.

You can download it for free at their website (I can also give you the free software on CD) but it will cost you money for me to perform a standard configuration for you. You can reach me (Wale) on 08055824984 or 01-8114718.

Note: with it, you can have your own personalised email systems, say wale@nairaland.com, you can run ftp, dhcp, print and so many other possibilities, it even has a user interface on windows. Very beautiful and perfect, you're sure to like it. smiley
