PoliticsRe: Abuja Bombers Text Messages by basking4me: 1:26pm On Oct 06, 2010
This country is gradually deteriorating into a chaos. Breakage is imminent if our security system is not well managed.

This ACT of Bombing, is an ACT of TERRORISM, and is against the state. It should not be tolerated in any form, this is not 9jadelta, as far as i know, anyone who throws bombs is a terrorist,

I sincerely hope suicide bombing will not become the order of the day!. We are gradually degrading into an IRAQ,
SportsRe: FIFA Bans Nigeria For Government Interference by basking4me: 1:16pm On Oct 06, 2010
People, lets get serious, we have long neglected other sports in favour of FOOTBALL, let FIFA ban us for life, at least INDIANS dont play FOOTBALL and the are happy, is it a must that we have to appear for football anywhere and at the end of the day we still get our hearts broken by our shameful failures.

I vote that the NFF be changed to ''Youth sports Programme'' 'YEP' and all its fundings be diverted for local sports like Ayoo and draft and ten-ten, tales by moonlight and other recreational activities, it pays better that way.

For those of us wey go jeba-jeba skool wey be say na pidgin we dey yan all through skool, and also for those of us that send sms using pidgin, when we communicate, we dey do am mostly in our pidgin slangs.

From the message, I want to believe it is phony because, if na correct waffi communication, it will go like this,

''You don collect the cheque from chairman'' instead of '' have you collected the balance from dokpesi''

'' na we organise the thing, show make i yan you'' instead of ''na we do am, meet me make i brief you''.

''make we merge for pale place'' instead of  '' let us meet at IBB Campaign office''

NTA, If you require such scripts in pidgin next time, pl dont forget to get in-touch with me, i be correct pidgin english script writer!
SportsRe: FIFA Bans Nigeria For Government Interference by basking4me: 8:19am On Oct 05, 2010
This again brings to fore the need for government to totally hands off sponsoring football or any other sports for that matter.

If FIFA is so interested in Nigerian football matters, then it should sponsor the sports in Nigeria, but so far as the piper(NFF) still gets paid by the dictator(Ministry of sports), the statusque remains.

I am a strong advocate for free enterprise and privatization,

The licking bucket and drain pipe of Nigerian Economy is Government and it pisses me off big time!
PoliticsRe: Government Empowers Local Councils To Set Up Power Plants by basking4me: 4:01pm On Sep 29, 2010
Our leaders know where our problems lie but they are refusing to take the bull by the horn, they rather choose to take the bull by the tail.

Time will come the bull will turn and devour the same tamer holding it by the tail!

What we need is true federalism finish.

If Nigeria should go back to the days of REGIONS, I am sure the competition would have fiercer and developmental growth rate highly increased.

However since we have decided to go by way of Federal, States and LGs, we need to re-organise the revenue allocation.

1. The Central (Federal) Allocation should be reduced to 30% and should be more focussed on fiscal policies.

2. State Should receive allocation of 25% of the income

3. Local Governments where the masses are situated should now Earn 55%.

This way, the focus and concentration of national CAKE will leave Abuja and the respective counties/LGs will now have manage their areas, development will pick from the gorund. ie. the local areas.

I wont need to be living in Ikeja but be working in VI or Abuja because the whole of my area is so developed as to be able to give me a job/career within it.

I believe that since these LGs are the closest to the inhabitants, they will be better able to solve our problems, like ROADS, Electricity, Jobs etc

Currently, local government councils are just glorified area offices of the state government.

The local governments are the closest to the Masses and empowering them with funds will ensure they are able to execute project in their constitutiencies without recourse to the state or federal.

Again do not let us forget that we are first from the local govt. before we are from a state and so on, Let the council be empowered to do their own projects.

This NIPP project news is just like giving them crumbs from the loaf!

WebmastersRe: Websites & Webmasters by basking4me: 11:31am On Sep 29, 2010
When you receive an approval for commencement on a project, you should have a template to work that ensures that all aspects of the job to be done are well spelt out. Of course you know that there will be a need for Site Maintenance and Renewal and Site Updations.

All these are by default the site builder's responsibilities except where the owner specifically states that he can do these himself or will assign the job to another, Soo, All your web works and proposals should by default have the section stating what is required for these additional services so that the client knows early.

He's not the techie, you Are!

All the best in your aspirations.
WebmastersRe: Best Web Hosting Service For You by basking4me: 8:55am On Sep 29, 2010
@ LagosHost and NigeriaHost,

Dualcore has made a very strong point here but you guys have not treated it.

Why cant you seat over some some bottles and discuss setting up a Datacentre in Nigeria.

Synergy is good for business, thats what happened with Google http://www.kingofcms.net/demo/google_course/index.html .

I currently have someone here on NL looking for where he can train on Data Center Management in South Africa ( https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=520264.msg6832081#msg6832081 ).

I am still talking to him to reconsider Nigeria, that there are skilled guys here who can teach him.

If your synergy can put up a working Data-center here, you will not only host successfully and bid for .ng domain tld with Govt (i.e. become Registrars) but also have the resources to train others.

Collectively, we spend Millions in dollars every month managing our servers from other countries, thats called Capital flight and Money Drain

I want to be seeing Hosting threads that discusses different OSes for your servers, Centos, Ubuntu, Plesk billing issues, CP, Virtuosso, Windows Oses and all that, not just hosting in general, we need to break it down further than that!

@DHTML,

I am happy you are leaving, grin

No more competition from you!. Everybody that has been shouting your name, ''DHTML, the best developer and trainer on NL'' will have to relocate with you to programming section.

In the mean time, those students you mentioned, will you pass them over to my school since you wont be taking development classes too,

This will leave me here to become the undisputed yet uncrowned best web developer of NL, shocked

Have a great time out there!

Early retirement.?, I can only imagin the types of illness webs developer will tend to have as they grow older, eyes whahalala from staring at the screen all day, back ache from seating all day and in cohesive thinking, your wife is talking to you and u are thinking where the hang the line code for the jquery app to work.

I really think coders and developers should retire early because they will DV be a bad sight if they continue to over 40yrs which is already over time!

Everyone is free to wish himslef the best reason I support the poster, my website is better than his own. I am number 1 and he's number 2. smiley

WebmastersRe: Your Recent Adsense Check Amount: (screenshots ?) by basking4me: 7:52pm On Sep 27, 2010
This guy has asked for screen-shot posting of Adsense income but instead we are getting talks of people making money. If you know that you know that u know that you have your Adsense cheques, post it and edit out your details (exclusive of name). i am not talking of photoshopped docs here.

We need realistic evidences, at least so the poster requested.

The BOT is automated and giving priviledge levels of admins in NL, it just might lie with Seun to re-leash the BOT. I have mentioned earlier on the need to better manage this spam bot that bans people doing neat postings.

I have asked Seun to let us see how we can rewrite the scripts so that people dont just get frustrated over the bannings but he moved my post from webmasters section where it can best be discussed and sent it to Nairaland section.

I just got unbanned myself. smiley

You tell your friend to wait one more day or so and he will be unbanned by the BOT itself.
ProgrammingRe: Web Vs Software Development by basking4me: 5:57pm On Sep 22, 2010
It is as a cause of software apps or (desktop apps) being resident on single systems and web apps been resident on the www, it will be only logical to say the entire world is gradually moving in the direction of the WEB.

I will rather build an app that will see more usage online than one that is only resident on a system or that can easily be copied or pirated. Operating systems and games can still hold sway for desktop apps but for the modern day business solution,  they are all going web.

Before anyone can copy your webworks, the person will have to really work meaning more secured and reliable.

So I vote for Web apps. Even ERP  and messaging apps are now run on the web,  my submission!
PoliticsRe: Mass Failure In Neco Exams Again by basking4me: 5:27pm On Sep 21, 2010
When you are mentioning the failure rates of high school leavers, what do you say of failure at undergraduate level. You meet some graduates and you wonder if they even went to secondary school at all. I have been opportuned to invigilate grown up men and women doing postgraduate programmes and you see them looking here and there in search of what is not missing, waiting for you to look the other way for them to unleash terror in the exam room.

Grown men with mustache and beards, men that drive big cars and are the timbers of our society. It definitely a legacy laid down. Even senior civil servants in government circles cheat when they have promotional exams.

The outcome of this exam only goes to further show the level of decadence in the educational sector and all other sectors of our society.

This gives the nation something to ponder on as she attains half a century!
PoliticsRe: Mass Failure In Neco Exams Again by basking4me: 4:51pm On Sep 21, 2010
Even parents cheat when they take their MBAs and other advanced courses and when they take promotional exams too.

What legacy are we leaving for our children, if we as grownups do these?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Seun: Create An Administrator Feedback Section by basking4me(op): 3:42pm On Sep 20, 2010
Seun,

Thanks for getting back on the subject. Can we at least discuss this issue more unless you are saying NL is not a democracy. it is really painful getting banned over sending legitimate postings.

Come on out more on this ban issue, maybe there is a way round it. I am sure the webmasters here can rewrite the scripts to better manage spammers and leave the legit guys unbanned.
Nairaland GeneralSeun: Create An Administrator Feedback Section by basking4me(op): 9:43am On Sep 18, 2010
I just got unbanned by NL automated spam Machine (ASM). It is gradually becoming unbearable when you need to send messages across, You cant because an automated Spam Bot locked your account.

Seun, even if you wont remove the Bot, at least create a feedback section that allows members to lay their complaints regarding usage of the forums.

You can only imagine the frustration when you have to take time to construct your message, type them and the post it only to be told its spam. It hurts really and its not good for NL. If this continues, it will be difficult to keep your members on.

my 2kobo.
WebmastersRe: Nigerian Web Hosts Vs Foreign Web Hosts by basking4me: 12:37am On Sep 04, 2010
CAn you guys imagine how much we lose to foreign host companies every year. I did a rough estimate based on my own spendings ( I currently spend about 400k on webhosting for 1yr), now we have other VPS owners like myself with higher spaces, hosting resellers, individual buyers of spaces and companies here in Nigeria using spaces for whatever they require them for.

Now lets just assume that there are only 2000 in the whole of Nigerian with dedicated servers that cost them 400k per yr to maintain leaving everyone else (resellers, personal users, Companies) we have about 800million per yr.

If an average domain space for a website is 50mb at the cost of N2,000 and there are just 1million websites in Nigeria (more than that registred at CAC and a whole lot more online that are not even registred with CAC), not to mention sites that run gB amd TB of work online and those running cloud computing services.

It is my take and am certain that foreign hosting companies cart away not less than 50Billion Naira to their countries at the peril of local hosting businesses.

How will our youths find jobs when the jobs that can be made available have been outsourced to foreign companies by our very selves without knowing. It is SAD a tale to tell,
WebmastersRe: Nigerian Web Hosts Vs Foreign Web Hosts by basking4me: 12:14am On Sep 04, 2010
I am currently working on settin up my first local hosting server. It will run on linux (centos). I am already putting together the other apps that will work with it. I want to assure you that we are capable of running our own hosting companies here in Nigeria.

I have been with a supposedly standard foreign hosting company that have dissappointed me in the past. This is the time to for all of us that have dedicated servers and VPSes located outside to synergise towards building our own datacenters across the nation as fibre begins to push into the hinderlands.

The problem and failure of banks involvement and government policies to encourage these area of investment is getting more worrisome by the day, reason the sector can hardly crawl.

Some corporate organisations here in Nigeria are now beginin to run mission critical services that require loads of space and they want to see their apps to face in their server rooms. ERP apps are run locally now and so will higher size applications and content management systems be run locally soon too.

We can do this, we only need people who understand these technologies in the right offices in Goverment to get it to work!
WebmastersRe: Integrating Interswitch's Webpay With Joomla's Virtuemart(shopping Cart) by basking4me: 7:30pm On Sep 02, 2010
CACTUS,

Are you able to work with Magento. Have you deployed any one. Pl get in touch with me as I have an on going project in this regard and I think your inputs will be required.
WebmastersRe: How Is The Interswitch Webpay Doing ? by basking4me: 7:28pm On Sep 02, 2010
Indeed I think Seun is right, My ATM does not work online for any purchases again. In-fact the banks have made the ATM usage entirely confusing. My local GTbank ATM cannot buy or pay for  anything online again. I now have a local (Naira) Zenith bank (VISA) ATM that doesn't buy anything online and an Intl ($) Gtbank Visa, I use for making intl payments.

So I believe the local cards are no longer working for online purchases.

Then there's the verve and so many other confusing cards. The industry needs to deregulate and do more marketing/product awareness.
WebmastersExpert Implementer Of Content Management Systems by basking4me(op): 12:26am On Sep 01, 2010
A Content Management Systems and web developmenrt organisation require developers who have deep hands on experience with content managment systems like Joomla, Moodle, Drupal, Plone and E107 (You must have thick and advanced knowledge in at least one).

If you count yourself a guru in any of these CMSs please get in touch with me with samples of your works on info@kingofcms.net. There are options for full time employment as well as freelance. Remuneration is very attractive and comparable to what obtains in Nigeria

Hoping to hear from you.

Hello Dhtml,

I have been through the poster's links and seen his works. I think we can still assist him in other areas of his design & dev works. I had the initial notion he was a greenhorn, but i was wrong.

I should be able to teach him some php while you teach some css works. If he likes CMS or is conversant with them, we should be able to teach him new ones he has never heard of.
