Mr Grammar
The only thing missing in that sentence is the 'removal' after the 'subsidy'

And what is with the 'oyimbo is not our language' BS? Is she still the first lady of the fed rep of nigeria?
Since it gives the sentence the exact opposite of the OP's intent, doesn't that make him a bit of an id!ot?

Lesson to take home; never camouflage cheap and dark political goals behind ephemeral sentiment.
It is the poor people that are suffering the brunt of the protests, which defeats their "purpose" in every way.

Call off strike for two days, Lagosians tell NLC, TUC
On January 12, 2012 · In News
BY Monsur Olowoopejo

LAGOS— As the anti-fuel subsidy removal protest enters its fifth day, residents of Lagos State have urged the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, to suspend the strike for two days to allow Nigerians re-stock for the remaining days of the protest.

The residents, however, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to shift ground in the ongoing deregulation policy of the oil sector.

Speaking to Vanguard, they argued that Nigerians, especially petty traders, had spent their income during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, leaving them with little or no cash to spend on foodstuff before the strike.

They added that the two days break was the only means not to further impoverish the low income earners, who rely on daily transactions to meet their daily needs.

Mrs. Blessing, a petty trader in Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos said, “low income earners in the country cannot afford to feed their family easily unless they go out and engage in their business daily.”

Dude, you must have one mental problem or the other. Lol!

norrisman:
U r the dumb one. The Almajiris are protesting against something that affects their lives i.e. The cost of everything doubling overnight! No ordinary citizen goes out to protest in support of a policy which makes him poorer but some economist explains it is for a better future. Thats the reason why I cited the UK as a example. People protest against public spending cuts because it affects their pockets but I am yet to see a protest by anyone in support of the cuts because it will make their future brighter. That crowd in your picture looks too hungry and not intelligent enough to honestly protest in support of a policy which makes them poorer but may pay off in the long run.

I work in Transport in the UK where Rail and Bus travel is heavily subsidized by the goverment and local councils. Healthcare is also subsidized (free) so stop misinforming.
Ok, almajiri's understand the "much touted macro and micro economic benefits of subsidy removal" you talked about? Lol!
You see how you doublespeak when you have ulterior motives, your mind in not cleans and your hands are dirty?

No sane country subsidises fuel for consumption. That is simply stup!d at best. Why not subsidise fanta, coke, toilet roll and things like moi-moi and kuli kuli instead. If that sounds daft its because it is, just as subsidising fuel for consumption is as well.
You can keep quoting the UK out of context, the fact is that over there fuel costs £1.00 and £0.60 (or 60%) of that is tax, not even subsidy. So what are you talking about the UK for?

You live in the UK, but are ignorant as hell about the system, cos you are only there to count buses.

@ beaf

U r a bloody joker. Do you really believe in your heart that those hungry looking guys believe in or understand the much touted macro and micro economic benefits of subsidy removal?

For argument sake, lets assume that the subsidy removal is for the good of the country, no ordinary citizen in their right senses will organise a rally to support it. It just flies in the face of logic. In the UK, there have been massive cuts in the public sector spending and the government has provided documents why this is necessary and all. There have been protests and strikes against this cut in public spending but I am yet to see a rally (protest) in favour of it. Maybe it is because there are no rent-a-crowd rallies in the UK
No, its the area boys that are beating people up in Lagos and the almajiri's burning cars and buildings in Niger state that understand the "macro and micro economic benefits of subsidy removal."

Who is fooling who?

Please, do not compare the UK and Nigeria, cos the UK would never do anything as daft as subsidising fuel. They subsidise things like research and development, high tech startup businesses etc; they don't do fuckry, thatds why they are developed.

This is a country where there is boko haram, because of politics, so demonstrations from certain quarters are no surprise.

Labour should have negotiated first, and done it with a national strike, not demonstrations.

BREAKING NEWS: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise
12 Jan 2012

The ice has finally been broken between labour unions and the Federal Government over the removal of fuel subsidy with a meeting scheduled for this evening, THISDAY can report.

Ahead of the tripartriate negotiation in Abuja involving the Executive, National Assembly leadership and the unions, the Jonathan Administration is considering a mechanism aimed at subsidising aspects of petrol pricing and bringing down the cost to around N120 per litre or up to 20% subsidy in the interim.

Labour is also said to be willing to propose a shift in the commencement date of the deregulation policy from April to March subject to agreement and milestones. They are said to be disposed to phased deregulation.

These three items form the agenda for the meeting for this evening.

THISDAY will keep you posted. Watch this space,

Come Beaf, I want to ask you a question, Do you think Abacha is still in power or do you need us to explain democracy for you?

Nobody has said subsidy removal is not a good thing but the timing. More so, Economics and leadership are not thesame! no matter how excellent your idea is, you have to explain it and the benefits in understandable formats to the ordinary citizens and that can be seen in charisma of Obama and his likes; how he touts and campaigns for his ideas for proper understanding b4 implementation but here, we have a pot bellied president who prefers to force down his ideas on ordinary Nigerians rather than explain. that is never leadership, thats called dictatorship. Leadership is never complete without followership. leadership is by consent not by force. you win the hearts of many when you can communicate and convince your people of your vision, that's leadership, the other side of it is dictatorship.
You agree that the subsidy removal is good, yet you are dumb enough to claim you are protesting it. Others are not as dumb as you, we see through what is going on. The common people are being driven unto the streets with thinly veiled ethnic calls from the cabal that is almost 100% resident in the SW and core-North.

You people are only fooling yourselves.

Don't mind alj haram. He is desperate because it is quite clear that the protest is an ethnic thing. See how many states in the SW and core-North have had curfews imposed against zero for other areas. The cabal members are all SW and core-North, so it is easy to see whats going on.
