Those Edo people were just looking for any excuse to strike at malams. Its unfortunate and condemnable, exagerated number of cows or not. |
PENGASSAN was quite daft to voice out such a threat in the first place. The implications of such a move are too far out to contemplate. Lets just say, it would have been the end of Nigeria and the beginning of two breakaway republics. Foolishness is cheap. |
He will soon die slowly and painfully. Innocent blood is calling, calling, calling, calling, calling, calling, calling, calling, calling, calling. . . |
All those that made the shameful public apologies to boko haram should be investigated. That would be Isa Yuguda and Danjuma Goje. I seriously don't understand why ex-gov Ali Sheriff is still walking around a free man. |
paragonpro:I don't see any Israel in Nigeria, do you? Anyway, lets forget about war drums and cool down the topic. The ethnic nature of the protests is the very thing that has brought us to this juncture. It should have been obvious to the protest organisers that there were hardly any protests in the Middle Belt, SE or SS, yet they were pressing on with threats that bordered on treason (eg shutting down the oil wells); aside from that, the internet was alive with ethnically charged callouts for "revolution." The way we handle affairs in the country is just appalling. Personally, I would rather not support an armed and ready SE/SS; the ND especially, should be able to bring our points to the table without threats; but that is simply another manifestation of the catalogue of failures of Nigeria that the region is highly traumatised, resulting in it being highly volatile and armed to the teeth. We all need to step back in Nigeria, take a deep breath, reevaluate and rejig how we go about our political and social interactions. We can build a great country, but we all need to heal and be given space to heal. |
Police arrest suspect in Borno Gov’s Lodge By Yusuf Alli ,Vincent Ikuomola and John Ofikhenua, Abuja 1 hour ago Hafiz Ringim THE Police appear to have recorded a breakthrough in their investigation of the Christmas Day bombing of St.Theresa's Catholic Church, Madalla, near Abuja. They arrested yesterday a man suspected to be the mastermind of the attack in which over 40 people died. The Islamic Sect,Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the bombing. His arrest was effected in an unlikely place:a Governor's Lodge-that of Borno State in Abuja. The suspect, Kabir Sokoto, was picked up in the company of a serving military officer whose name was not immediately disclosed. The duo were being quizzed, sources told The Nation last night. Also facing police inquisition in Abuja are two men accused of attempting to smuggle arms into Nigeria from Ghana. Scores of worshippers and passers-by were injured in the Madalla bomb blast. Some of them are still receiving treatment in 12 hospitals in Abuja , Madalla, Suleija, Zuba, Kwamba and Kubwa. Investigation by our correspondent confirmed that Kabir Sokoto was arrested at the Borno Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro District after weeks of trailing him . It was gathered that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, has briefed President Goodluck Jonathan on the breakthrough. A reliable police source said: “Following a tip-off, the suspect was arrested early on Saturday morning while in hiding at the Liaison Office in Abuja . He was said to be in transit to London . “For weeks, we have been working on clues that the suspect was one of the masterminds of the Christmas Day bombing. “He is being interrogated by a special team of senior officers on how St. Theresa’s Catholic Church bombing was perpetrated. “The interrogation may also involve other security agencies since a serving military officer was with him when he was picked up. “The IGP has submitted a preliminary brief to President Goodluck Jonathan on the latest arrest. The suspects are being kept in a police detention facility. Another reliable source said: “The suspect left Maiduguri on Friday via Kaduna . On getting to Kaduna , he sought the assistance of a military officer to provide him escort to Abuja to catch a flight to London . “Aware that the security agencies had been on his trail, he could not get a safe place to sleep. He decided to go to Borno Governor’s Lodge to seek assistance to sleep overnight as an indigene of the state. “Oblivious to the fact that he was a Boko Haram member, the Permanent Secretary in charge of the lodge decided to be magnanimous to give him free accommodation for a night. “But intelligence agents trailing the suspect on the phone succeeded in tracing him to the lodge through a GPRS device. “This led to the storming of the Lodge in the early hours of Saturday leading to the arrest of the serving military officer and some staff on duty. “But after interaction with the staff of the Lodge, they were released by the police on bail pending the conclusion of a comprehensive investigation.” A police source Saturday said Force Criminal Investigation Department is already handling the quizzing of the suspects.” Kabir's arrest came against the backdrop of police investigation of a serving governor in one of the northern states over alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram. Security agencies have already raised a panel to confront him with the facts at their disposal. But he is said to be evading contact with security operatives as he keeps citing one official engagement or the other. Several other top politicians from the north are also said to be under security watch over their relationship with the group. Some of them have reportedly fled to Niger Republic and Chad. It was gathered in Abuja that security reports have indicted the governor for having a "deep" relationship with Boko Haram. Only his immunity has prevented the security agencies from arresting him. However, they are keen on "interacting" with him with a view to laying the facts before him. Said a source familiar with the issue: "The essence of the coming interaction is to unmask those sponsoring the sect. The said governor is already aware and he has been moving here and there including some trips to Niger Republic and Chad. "As a result of the immunity he enjoys,he cannot be directly arrested. But all the details are being assembled and security committee has been constituted to confront him with such details. "Once the evidence is confirmed as incontrovertible, further steps can then be taken to ensure prosecution in line with treason and such charges. An inter-agency committee may also interrogate the politicians suspected of romancing with Boko Haram. A list of the affected persons has already been compiled for further action. Meanwhile, two Nigerians out of the five suspects arrested in connection with a truckload of arms and ammunition in Ghana have been flown to Abuja for interrogation. Accra Regional Police Officer, Rose Atinga had last Wednesday confirmed the interception of a truck with Coca-Cola inscription loaded with pump action guns, double-barrel guns and a large quantity of cartridges. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/33323-police-arrest-suspect-in-borno-gov%E2%80%99s-lodge.html |
Does that mean its the Borno state gov that run off to Niger? Some papers claimed a serving governor ran away over the weekend, cos he was about to be clamped for boko haram activities. |
paragonpro:If a war is declared, far from suicide, any side that can rally oil money will win. There are more reasons and angles than grains of sand to guarantee that. Also, no one is tribalising an issue that was tribalised from the very outset. More than anything though, it is neither a Yoruba issue nor a Hausa-Fulani issue, rather it is politicians from those areas who have been missusing the protests and giving it an ethnically bigotted hue. This happened even before the protests started and forced those from the SE/SS to educate their people about the trap being set. |
^ My dear, that is why people must refrain from saying fearful and spiteful things about other ethnic groups, cos when events play out, those who have been quietly observing matters would put in place the mechanisms for self-protection that they have quietly built. It is all about self-defence. I have quit trying to get people to understand that certain ethnic groups have been customarily threatened by the state and will react more like cornered beasts in many situations. There is nothing like quity and respect. koruji:Dismember the country because of N65 per litre? We all know where your bitterness stems from, and we know too that anger is a by-product of defeat. Its good to cry sometimes. |
blacksta:What prediction? Na wa o! The only person that has made a prediction here is Koruji. I will repeat that I have warned a lot of you over and over about an ethnically bigotted approach to politics. Practically all of the GEJ hatred could easily be traced to two geographic political camps in Nigeria, that hatred has now boiled over into protests, riots and defeat. What next? That question goes to the Gbawe's, Koruji's, Dayokano's, Rhino's, Eko Ile's, Seanet's, bluetooth's, dilluminatie's, Akanbi Edu's, Demdem's and the hundreds of others like them. |
^ People like you are in various mental clinics dotting the land. Don't forget your meds and remember not to try to fight the Moon or bite people. koruji:The bolded only goes to show how daft you are, since most people would observe that I started this thread. I have warned you and your type several times about your bigotted approach to national issues, but you have persisted in your unfortunate arrogance. Now that you have been so soundly defeated, what next? Would you be joining boko haram? |
^ Dude, there is some good in you, but you need to stop lying.
koruji, I am a bit more optimistic than you are. I want to believe that GEJ will take the bull by the horns and lead this country into a brighter future. If he fails in this aspect in the next couple of days, the people will rise up against government at all levels and GEJ or someone else will be forced to lead us towards true federalism. There is no alternative to ONE Nigeria. May Allah transform GEJ into our MLK/Mandela or better yet, our very own heroic Ebele. I wish Ebele success in his duties and responsibilities. Insha Allah, we shall come out of this a better nation. All those wishing death to Nigeria can go and hug transformers. The cat is out of the bag, the game is up.
LolZ! You wish Ebele success because you have seen that your civilian putsh has become a terrible own goal? You are smart enough to see that; however, people like Koruji are too bigotted and tragically addled to know that they have suffered a resounding defeat. No man born of woman can replace GEJ at this time without dismembering the country. In fact, it is only dreamers that allow such thoughts cross their minds. We have never been in a better position to war against those who constitute themselves into our enemies. |
The occupy people are thoroughly deluded and their approach is shallow. They have been used by the NLC (fathers of corruption), failed politicians (like Bakare) and fuel importers (like Tinubu). Now that the subsidy matter has met a cold, hard rock in GEJ; it is becoming apparent to the occupy clowns that they have been used and dumped like soiled toilet roll, so the song needs changing to hide their shame. What occupy clown is negotiating with govt? None? If you ain't negotiating with govt, but twitting and pasting conspiracy addled shiit on your facebook wall like demented pigeons, then what is the purpose? The only thing the fools at occupy have achieved is move the country several stepa toward war. As we speak, ND militants have begun reconvening in Port harcourt, because they have interpreted the lopsided protests as an ethnic agenda. After the country has lost the SE/SS what oil would there be to protest over? It takes very little effort to be stup!d. |
How many would be willing to take up arms for N65 fuel? It seems there are no end of people willing to take up arms to remove not just the subsidy, but the very source of oil from the country. Lets go there. ![]() |
Plot against Jonathan’ll fail –Ex-militant leaders By PAUL OSUYI, Asaba Sunday, January 15, 2012 Repentant militants from the Niger Delta region have vowed to stake their lives to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan is not removed from office by those they called frustrated politicians, before expiration of his tenure in 2015. The former warlords said in a statement that the plot to chase Jonathan out of office under the guise of fuel subsidy removal protests was a well-calculated agenda to truncate the President’s tenure. Former Niger Delta militant leaders are meeting in Port Harcourt to assess the mass protest across the country over removal of fuel subsidy. Chairman of the forum, General (Pastor) Reuben Wilson, said on Friday that those plotting removal of the President would fail. He said leaders of the various militant groups decided to mobilise for what he termed the great battle ahead, and they were ready to sink or swim with the President. The President, according to Wilson, was on a mission to salvage the country by deciding to put an end to fuel subsidy in the country and undertake full deregulation of the petroleum sector. He said most of those mobilizing youths to the streets to protest the decision were already making their agenda known, one of which is to actualize the impeachment of the President. “Of recent, we were made to understand that the minority in Nigeria cannot rule over the majority. Based on that, President Jonathan went through the valley of death to becoming Acting President and then President after the demise of the late Umaru Yar’Adua. We have not forgotten where these votes came from. “We have also not forgotten that this same cabal made a pronouncement that if Jonathan wins, Nigeria would be made ungovernable during his tenure. This cabal has since been waiting in ambush to foment crisis,” they said. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/jan/15/national-15-01-2012-008.html |
there are legitimate questions to be asked about his leadership qualities and overall performance. it's unrealistic to suggest that only ijaws may raise these questions. he's the president of the country, not his village.
I would love to know if you have asked similar questions about your LG chairman, your governor, rep member and senator. Or have you conveniently forgotten that they exist? I find that to be a very common problem. |
I really pity those who have been used in this strike. What did you protest for? From the beginning, I shouted that it would be better off protesting for something concrete like the NASS members salaries, getting states and LG's to function as developmental hubs and revenue generators etc, but people decided to go out and foolishly protest for N65 fuel without even waiting at least a month to see the effect of the palliatives. Their ulterior motive was to bring down the govt, now that they habve failed, what next? |
I pity those who have been used, even worse, those who have died for nothing. They were used. I pity people who think that because they can protest and scream loudest, that they are speaking for the whole of Nigeria. The fact that the serious protests are limited to certain areas only, speaks volumes. Quite clearly, the protesters do not speak for the whole Nigeria, instead their actions are being viewed as the culmination of an ethnically bigotted agenda by their leaders who are operating behind the scenes and are using the people. Even before the protests began, wiser ones on NL sounded out warnings, only be rebuffed with crap about the "owners of Nigeria" and other arrogant nonsense. Matters are beginning to reach dangerous levels, because the leaders of the protesting regions fear the consequences of their failed coup. They have done their worst and been swatted off like flies. Don't let anybody use you. |

Subsidy: Govt will alleviate plight of Nigerians – Fashola January 13, 2012 by Agency Reporter Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Friday said the government was duty bound to ensure that the sufferings of Nigerians ended “as quickly as possible.” Fashola spoke at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on his arrival from Abuja after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on the state of the nation, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The governor arrived on an Air Force Presidential jet with registration no. 5N-FGW at about 12.40pm. “One way or the other, people are suffering and we remain responsible and duty bound to ensure that the sufferings and inconveniences end as quickly as possible. “On my own interest, and I believe that the interest of those of us who are involved here today and all Nigerians, the ordinary people are bearing the brunt of this crisis,” he said. Fashola, who described the governors’ meeting with the president as progressive, said, “It was a useful meeting, coming from where we were before. “The meeting is progressive and parties are ready to engage in dialogue. So, for us, it is a step forward.” On threats by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria to down tools to protest petrol subsidy removal, the governor said he had not obtained any concrete fact on the matter. “Well, I do not have those facts now, but I think in a situation where we are trying to make progress, it does not help the negotiations to issue more threats,” Fashola said. http://www.punchng.com/news/subsidy-govt-will-alleviate-plight-of-nigerians-fashola/ |

Fashola Warns PENGASSAN over Strike 14 Jan 2012 By Chinedu Eze Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, has called on members of Petroleum, Energy and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to drop their plans to go on strike as it would jolt the fruitful meeting between the federal government and the labour. PENGASSAN had announced that it would shut down oil wells from Sunday as part of the protest against fuel subsidy removal. Fashola noted that issuing more threats would not help the negotiation, which was already at advanced stage. "I think in a situation where we are trying to make progress, it doesn’t help the negotiations to issue more threats. I think ultimately my own interest and I believe the interest of those of us who are involved and all Nigerians; the ordinary people who bear the brunt of this crisis matter." The Lagos State Governor said people are suffering so much because of the crisis, "so the problem should be amicably resolved as urgently as possible." He added: "One way or the other, people are suffering and we remain responsible and duty-bound to ensure that the suffering and inconveniences as they are, end as quickly as possible." He said the meeting between government and labour on Thursday was fruitful and progressive. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fashola-warns-pengassan-over-strike/107102/ |
Fashola was the head of the governors committee that recommended the removal of the subsidy. |
