viewlekan:There will be pain from the subsidy removal, which is unfortunate. As for the cover for the poor, the details are not yet etched, because I believe they will be laid on the table only during and after settlement with the unions. However, both Okonjo Iweala and Deziani Allison Madueke have mentioned education, maternal care, agriculture, transportation and power supply as areas that will benefit. It is the raw details that are lacking, but which I expect will come out when the unions and the FG sit down for serious palleys. |
Chubhie:The bolded is what every honest, responsible Nigerian should be up against. People need to form all sorts of interest groups to look at proceedings with eagle eyes and ensure that every last Kobo of the subsidy savings can be transparently traced. That is the job of every patriotic person. It is normal to have fears based on past experience, but if we continue to fear putting a toe in the water, we will never find out if there are splendours and riches on the other side of the river. I believe GEJ is sincere; he has said we should begin to see benefits in 6 months, lets wait a bit and if they do not come, then we take to the streets. Lastly, I am not an insider. That is just a nonsense a few people have spread, because they are on opposite sides of the political fence and cannot muster a single argument that is not cock-eyed and k-legged; so they fight dirty. |
ogugua88: My sister, na you get your maut o! Can you tell us why you think Nigerians are generally disabled? Can you also tell us what exactly you are asserting this disability to be? Nigerians are not disabled. Most are just mentally lazy and think backwards as a result of years of being traumatised by wicked govts. Thats why able-bodied individuals that can wade through bowls of amala and libations of odeku without shaking, think they need to be subsidised by govt. I dont know of any country where the able bodied are all on welfare; not just the people, but their LG's and their states too. Its hilarious in a tragic way. ![]() |
femionasan:You are funny. If you think that you should be paying more attention to the FG than your state and local govt for your welfare, dont you think your expectations are upside down? Why should the FG feed you, instead of your state and LG? Demand the fuel subsidy from your state and LG if it is that important to you, afterall your governor and LG chairman are not mere decorations whose only purpose in office is to share beggars money from Abuja. In other countries, it is the states and LG's that fund the FG, provide jobs and services etc. It is the upside down mentality of the average Nigeria (from years of being traumatised up by the military rule) that is the problem here. The average person even thinks it is normal for states and LG's to do phuckall and collect money from Abuja. What if there was no oil? What would your state and LG collect from Abuja? What N65.00 payment for our enslavement would we demand? Why are your state and LG beggars in Abuja, is it normal? These are the things that should be your real focus. |
^ Thanks, but I am a reguler NLander expressing my opinion. Chubhie:Do you know me, or is your family employing me? If you wish to converse with me, I will advise you cut out the crap, it only makes you seem like an unintelligent coward who lacks the skills to debate. Chubhie:I asked a few questions above about how a country should be run. I will repeat them in answer to your questions: Tell me why you need a N65.00 handout as an able bodied individual. I want to know what you think about your state being your primary focus for development, instead of the FG. State governors and LG chairmen are not mere decoration; they are there to provide jobs, industries and services. That is not the FG's job. So, how hot are you on your state governor and LG chairmain? Everyday, the Nigerian cries out for true federalism which guarantees self reliance and cultural autonomy. How do Abuja handouts encourage self reliance and autonomy? What business has the FG got in funding everything under true federalism? The states and the LG's should be funding the FG instead, but Nigerians don't think right anymore and thats why we are here clamouring with blood drenched eyes for the return of a structural anomaly. GEJ is taking the country on a none return trip to true federalism by slowly decreasing the FG's powers and putting more in the hands of the private sector. Even NNPC as we know it is going. The boat is on a one way trip toward true federalism.
[li]Do you know the meaning of true federalism?[/li] [li]If your state governor or LG chairman was doing his job and your locality was churning out jobs and industries, would you be concerned about a N65.00 handout from Abuja?[/li] [li]If you think Nigeria is phucked, because we cannot manufacture a single pin and states must beg for monthly upkeep from Abuja, why would you think you as an individual needs the same sort of welfare package when you are not disabled?[/li]
Can you tell me if anyone on the wrong side of the above questions is on the right side of reality? Nigerians need to learn to think in the right way, too many years of phucked up anti-people govts have made us not to understand how a country should be run. Thank you. |
xwolverine:When people have no brains, they put up agbero attitudes like you. It is a sign of lack of intelligence. Sir, do you fight on the roads or beat children in the streets? Is your "real job" armed robbery? Why is it that you cannot argue without going personal, sir? Were you deprived as a kid? No milk? Bros, I'm confused! Dunce. ![]() |
ifeci:Yes, it does. Tell me why you need a N65.00 handout as an able bodied individual. I want to know what you think about your state being your primary focus for development, instead of the FG. Chubhie:Are you daft 7 days a week or is today just your Sunday? @topic There is no right time for harsh medicine; there is only "urgent time." There was no way Nigeria could ever sustain the subsidy, especially with the abolishing of the fuel queues; suddenly, the amount of fuel we imported sky-rocketted, as did the subsidy that paid for it. In the meantime, the subsidy wasn't producing jobs or generating increased revenue, so aside from N65.00 per litre, what was its purpose? Before GEJ, there were long fuel lines and people bought fuel from the blackmarket at exotic prices, so why will a structured package like the current one cause anything to go belly up? The greatest benefit of the subsidy removal will be that for once, we will actually begin having truthful estimates of our annual fuel consumption which is overinflated every year to include smuggling to Benin Republic, Chad, Niger, Burkinafaso and Cameroon. Why should the Nigerian govt subsidise the economies of neighbouring countries? NNPC will also lose the ability to issue licenses and take up a regulatory role. The PIB should also come on stream later on this year according to the FG and should be a serious game changer. It is bitter, but necessary medicine for us to swallow. What we must do is ensure that the money is judiciously spent, if not we can match into the streets. |
ifeci:Stop advocating cowardice and start your "revolution" to remain a cheap slave for the pitiful price of N65.00 per litre. Nothing suprises one in Nigeria these days, afterall, there is boko haram fighting for the right to remain illiterates. The rest of the country has been unchained from the mafia. Today is Nigeria's real Independence Day. |
Poor Gbawe, his posts are now in the colours of the Jamaican flag, with super-sized fonts to match. ![]() |
sheyguy:And do you know that the industrialised World is leading the call for decentralisation of energy generation (as you call it), because they have realised the gross errors they have made? Guy, keep up to date with trends. We can't continue preaching that we grind pepper on stones, because our forefathers did it so. |
^ You are a filthy tongued, stone-headed swine, not worth engaging in debate. Gentleboby:They are committing a crime and we have every right to stop such people by whatever means. By law, the maximum price is N141.00; the deregulated fuel price has controls. |
nwabobo:Word. ![]() |
UYCO:How can I convince you to be principled? Integrity and principle are not things that anyone can walk out of the gutter and wear like a necklace. Were you not the same person who was willing to sell your heritage for a pittance to strangers right here on NL? Some of those strangers are now poking fun at you, let that be the thing that teaches you and leave me out of it. Pitiful shiit. |
A classed , like your slowpico GEJ, can't comprehend why economies here run with common sense! VAT,Tax Breaks are subsidies tools that you can use more effectively more than you would do your corrupt cash injection module approach your crooked leadership uses. Inglorious numpty, you think leaders here think pocket first when they formulate policy?, Your claimed price control on Alcohol/cigarrettes are no price control in your Nigerians sense and contaxt! They are price control to keep the NHS subsidy within budget and sustainable. I know sycophants like you know how to spin FACTS but sorry not this one!
The one redeeming grace of a unicellular brained nematode like you, is that while you find it extremely difficult, you at least learn slowly. Some pages ago, when you learnt the fuel would be price controlled; against all commonsense and informed admonition, you began id!otically arguing that there were no price controls in the UK. Thank God you've seen the light; it is the job of the more exposed ones to help stones and rocks like you. Its a tough task but we must continue to teach, teach, and patiently teach. |
engineerd:There will be some pain, which is regretable. But it will turn for the better in the near future as the money saved is channelled into productive areas. There is going to be very massive job creation in the millions this year as the FG promised the day before yesterday. |
Gbawe:Comedy! Abeg, put your money where your mouth is and start burning things down (especially Oando). No need to yarn opata and parade big chest on the internet. |
YOU ARE REALLY DAFT! simples, you can not distinguished between Price Control as advocated by PPPRA and price control on Alcohol/cigarettes in the UK? You have no sense of what price control as an economic toll really means! Am I all too surprised? Absolutely not. You are as shallow as your pay master and I have made this clear to you before. Just like your GEJ could not convinced Nigerians on why He needs to remove Fuel subsidy (Something I can don even if you wake me up from sleep 12am), it is not all too of a no show that He employs electronically certified idiots like you to troll the web. As Gbawe has rightly pointed out, your wicked at heart and a shameless ! Go through this thread of over how many pages and see how popular your view points are. Go figure out when you can, When you deregulate, that mean, your power to set prices go out of the window, market forces of demand and supply dictates the price! Unless you bring about an intervention like subsidy or Tax breaks like the UK does, you can not have the moral ground to talk about price tag! Virtually everything in the UK is subsidized directly on indirectly. Go figure out what tax breaks on month income on families, co-habitting couples etc are all about before you come run your filthy sycophantic mouth!
Stop talking like a malnourished toad. You claimed that the UK subsidises fuel with reduced VAT! GBAGAUN!!!!! You then further claimed that the UK has no price controls and the UK National Health Service (NHS) subsidises alcohol and cigarrattes! GBAGAUN!!!! The UK does not subsidise fuel, instead it is taxed; in fact more than half the price of a litre at the pump goes to govt as taxes. No developed country would do something as id!otic as subsidising fuel for consumption, that sort of fuckry only occurs in places like Nigeria where carpenters, hunters and rewires can aqcuire "Toronto" degree's from Oluwole and begin to lord it over genuine people. No industrialised country will subsidise fuel for consumption, that is the same as subsidising indolence. All developed countries subsidise productive sectors of their economies like research, space industries, defence, health, manufacturing etc. A lying baboon like you would not even understand that subsidies are meant to be a strategic economic tool meant to achieve measurable goals and steer the economy in particular directions. Here is a succint defintion: A subsidy (also known as a Render) is an assistance paid to a business or economic sector. Most subsidies are made by the government to producers or distributed as subventions in an industry to prevent the decline of that industry (e.g., as a result of continuous unprofitable operations) or an increase in the prices of its products or simply to encourage it to hire more labor (as in the case of a wage subsidy). Examples are subsidies to encourage the sale of exports; subsidies on some foods to keep down the cost of living, especially in urban areas; and subsidies to encourage the expansion of farm production and achieve self-reliance in food production.[1]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidy Please, learn in silence. |
efisher:The bolded brilliantly encapsulates the progressive argument for the removal of subsidies. |
mayorteeny:True, tell Gbawe about it. Advise Gbawe to burn down Oando; they are selling fuel for N141. |
^ These days, unevolved prepubescent bullfrogs like you are allowed to use computers? What a shame. ![]() adaphik:Yes, tell Gbawe to go and close Oando; they are selling fuel for N141. |
Let me educate you abit more, It was in the dying days of Gordon Brown that price control on Alcohol and Cigarrettes were brought in to force. A study was done to enumerate how the alcohol abuse was leading to more spending in £millions by the NHS, meaning, the state was subsiziding 'abuse' and 'Waste'. Panel of Experts came up with the recommedation for the government haven found a link between cheap alcohol and increase in alcohol related illness and increased NHS bedspace usage! And the recommendation was to tax those who choose to abuse the cheap alcohol by putting up the Taxes on Spirits. This in effect is a price control to avoid NHS subsidy from going uncontrollable and unfordable! THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM CONTROLLING THE PRICE TAG IN ORDER FOR PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT! Get it , freaky numpty!!
So you now agree that there are price controls in the UK? You are a clown indeed! There have always been price controls in the UK and there will always be. It is dolts like you who make stup!d arguments about stuff you don't know that keep proferring dead mens solutions to Nigeria, so you can keep praising your hero, Ciroma and living a life of disgraceful ignorance in the UK, funded by filthy lucre. It is filthy lucre that keeps your type praising belly crawlingg vultures like Ciroma and wishing Nigeria would maintain the status quo that saw your type reaping off the system. It is over, live with it. There will be no more subsidising the pockets of a few bigshots off the backs of Nigerians, the 1.3trillion will be distributed into more meaningful subsidies for development. Cry tears of blood if you like. |
goodsegs:Like every human, GEJ makes mistakes; however, the removal of the fuel subsidy is not one. @Biger Boy Omo tier is just plucking crap out of his arse and you know it. It started with his crazy argument that the taxes he pays on fuel in the UK are a form of subsidy. Isn't that daft? |
I know you can't see beyond the dirths in your nose! It's common sense, silly! NHS is free and higly subsidized, people go out drink excessively, have alcohol related issues, and who picks the bills?, The Treasury does mate! Who subsidizes the NHS to the tune of £50bn? The treasurey does mate. FYI, ITU/ICU beds in the UK cost an average £10,000/bed space each day! The then labour government conducted a research and found a direct link between Alcohol prices, and associated public disorder and illnesses and the resulting increment in admissions in the NHS. Simple cheap Alcohol => more addmissions => More NHS bedspace being used up => More cost in terms of subsidy for the UK government. So what do you do, you control the source i.e Alcohol prices as the government hope (as the study of experts suggested) would translate to fewer addmissions => Less NHS Bedspace being used up for related diseases and illness =>Less cost in terms of subsidy =>overall benefit for the UK treasury/tax paying citizens, See common sense in action ?
Sharrrrrrap dia wit your k-legged lies! As voodoodoll said, alcohol and cigarettes are price controlled to help subsidise other services. The bottom line is, contrary to your false words; there are price controls on goods the UK govt does not subsidise. Just in the same way as 9ja now has price controls on petrol it no longer subsidises. I wish there were tablets I could give you to improve your brain. Lol! NHS does not subsidise alcohol and tobacco! |
FYI, and I have told yoou this before, I am from the South South and from an oil producing area like the president. But I would never pay a blind eye to mediocrity just 'cos GEJ is from South South! He hasnt got the balls to lead, and much of what He does is being dictated to Him! Are you this daft? Price Control on Alcohol and cigarettes are due to NHS that is highly subsidized! Gosh you are one big numpty. Go use you wikipedia and find out how many were admitted in the UK NHS between 2007 and 2010 for alcohol realated cases, then you would know why the then Labour government came up with the idea of Price control on alcohol. It's the pressure on the subsidized NHS dues to abuse, numpty!
So the National Health Service (NHS) subsidises alcohol and cigarattes in the UK? Guy, maybe you are talking about the NHS in your village! Choi! Man can't laugh!!! The UK has price controls just as petrol will be price controlled. Please stop lying, its entertaining in its foolishness, but its immoral. |
I give this article a 100%. Brilliant analysis. |
Never said it was fake, or did I? , Basically, I just explained to you yea how it works here! Simple, government can only control what she subsidizes. The network grid for electricity and gas you mentioned is controlled by the government 'cos she owns the grid! The only grid she doesnt own is the South-West grid owned by a company in the US. The actual gas or electricity you use in your house is not subsizied by the UK government! simple.
You are one funny character indeed! Does the UK govt also subsidise alcohol and cigarettes? How come there are price controls on these things? You are one phucking clown whose arguments are plucked from thin air and defended with lies. How is your god, Ciroma? |
I told you , you aint got a clue how the system here functions, reaping documents off on the internet is not the way to go mate! It's a sign of cowardice! Price control on Gas and Electricity distribution is not same as price control on Gas and Electricity at destination point i.e. House, Offices, Malls and Industrial estates. UK government control distribution prices 'cos it privatize the distribution networks, hence you have companies, like SWEB, EDF, BritishGas' etc 'buying' distribution routes through government owned but privately ran/maintain distribution networks. Man for real you'r dam shallow,
So the price control document I provided is fake because you are angry?Lol! My guy, stop making arguments that anyone can shred. Be informed and educated, thats what will stop you getting angry, sir. |
Chubhie:If you cannot start your senseless suicide in 48 hours, then you are a braindead coward. By the way, I don't work for anybody, the truth just hurts you phuckers so much that you start lying.
They are controlled 'cos they are subsidized! Get some senses mate! The rails get Billions each year to keep prices low, a whooping £7bn Each parliermentary year mate!!! Gas and Electricity do not get controlled, that is why you get tax breakes for working family, council energy breaks for the OAPs, man you sound even more numpty than I first thought!
You are lying. Here is a price control document from the UK's national grid.
@beaf, You really think if prices of goods and services in Nigeria sure up x2, international companies coming to bidd for these contracts to be awarded by your GEJ would not up their bids to reflect the worsening economic reality in Nigeria? i.e., if I were to employ a dude on N1500 day hypothetically, sure that dude must now earn N2000 or more due to worsening economic reality albeit as your claims seems to suggest it will be for short term. But my bids must reflect this short termism for a contract that may take 2 to 3 years ! Who looses at the end? You and I of course !!
My friend, international companies deal in dollars, not Naira; they are affected by World economic indices, not local inflation. Your argument has no basis. For Nigeria to become a productive country that is competitive on an international scale, a whole host of reajustments need to be made, some will be painful; but we cannot keep entertaining arguments that we should keep doing the same things of the past that led to our current failures with the forlorn hope that they will one day, miraculously produce success. |

I only hope the 1989 Romanian revolution which was very disorganized or Arab spring does not happen. People are frustrated and GEJ is sinking them into deeper misery. Even if the benefits of the so called subsidy removal takes effect in the next six months do you know how many people will die of hunger, not go to school, will not be able to take care of their families and lead to a large number of suicidal tendencies. Oh! i forgot, its the sacrifice we have to make in order to move forward but the Executive and Legislature cannot sacrifice a pay cut for these people to live. 70% are below the poverty line, it wont be a nice sight to behold if a Samuel Doe reenactment happens.
