Fhemmmy:You are right. We really miss the straight talking social crusaders of old like Fela. He would have told Buhari where to stick his arse. Na be outside- Buhari dey ![]() |
When the Buhari military headquarters that some governors of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) led by Papa Awolowo in the second republic had confessed to obtaining kickbacks while in government, Papa Awolowo in a press conference, refuted the claim and told the world the truth about the distortion of Buhari and his men inside Dodan Barracks. The result of Papa’s press conference was a dispersal of detained politicians to remote areas of the country and a total cancellation of visits by relations of these detained politicians for the duration of the regime. Gen. Buhari impounded the official passport of Papa Awolowo and denied the old man visits to his doctors at Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota, USA for the years he ruled Nigeria. Papa Awolowo’s passport was only returned to him with courtesies by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida after the coup of 1985 that had ousted Buhari from power. Babangida had sent Lt. Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau to return Papa’s passport with apologies from the Nigerian Armed ForcesPretty wicked, frightening and disrepectful stuff. |
https://exmaysglobalmagazine.com/Home_files/Tai%20cover.jpg Another tireless social crusader of the time, Tai Solarin (RIP) was jailed by Buhari for simply asking when there would be an elected government. Despite the fact that it was well known that Tai Solarin suffered serious asthma, Buhari refused to allow him drugs, hoping he would die. Nigerians of all hues amnd complexions begged and looked on in horror, but Buhari wasn't moved. Somehow, God smiled on the man from Ikenne and he lived through the ordeal. Another political chieftain of the time Ebenezer Babtope was jailed for no reason as usual. While in detention without charge, his father died; despite the loud volume of remonstrations to his person, Buhari refused to allow the innocent Babatope to attend the burial of his father (even under armed gurad). Beast of No Nation, is an apt description. |
appletango:We've heard this lame excuse a thousand times, it was the anthem of the Atiku camp. Sensible folk would wonder how come Obj had so much trouble in his home state, Ogun. How a lowly governor in Gbenga Daniels was able to rock his boat so crazily. Abeg, adress the topic and leave diversions. |
Syenite:Was it "education" that made you claim to be a parastatal? If thats what you call "education," then I want none of it. |

Eko Ile:Sorry, but you have no judgement. Don't abuse the word, you couldn't even comprehend a simple enough topic, before zooming off into your dungheap of ignorance. The tosh you posted above has NOTHING to do with the topic, but simply highlights the comprehension problem I pointed out. GEJ has ordered the FG to buy made in Nigeria cars. What does that have to do with who owns the parastatals? God Please save your children from this onslaught of dimness, . . .one guy already called himself a parastatal, now this?! Here's the crap you posted earlier again. What does it have to do with the topic? Its comprehension issues reemphasised. Instead of typing this pointless rubbish, shouldn't you be educating us about what they've (GEJ/PDP) done to make this silly and misguided policy a positive and beneficial reality for the local auto makers and Nigerians in general? |
Syenite:Dumb. I have never ever heard anything so daft. Dude, YOU ARE NOT A PARASTATAL. FG staff are not parastatals! Jesus! Where una go school? |
The order is a very good move from GEJ, we need such to create cashflow and confidence in our local industries. Without doubt, our local car manufacturers would have danced for joy at the news. I don't see what the point of most of the anti-GEJ arguments here are about. We just have people coming in with all sorts of shocking beer palour stuff like, "since they are made in Nigeria, they are inferior" "Nigerians shouldn't be in auto manufacturing, we dont have the talent" "We should stick to things like bronze casting and carpentary, and leave car making to Toyota, Japan and America" "I am a parastatal, because I work for govt and I don't want a Nigerian car" "I'm sure GEJ owns Innoson" "PAN belongs to GEJ" . . .In one word, pathetic; in another, daft. Even kids reason better. |
Eko Ile:I've boded two blocks. The first one is easily taken care of by reciting the title of the thread very slowly to you (so that you don't get confused); "Jonathan Orders FG Parastatals To Patronise Nigerian Made Vehicles." Does it say "for Nigerians to The rest of your post is what secondary school students call ITK or yarning OP. As for the second bolded, your stark failure at the simplest comprehension has taken care of that. Its a case of looking in the mirror and seeing you, not someone else. ![]() |

Don't be deceived by high level political shenanigans and dribbling moves in the presidential race (such as Babangida's very curious endorsement of Ribadu). ACN and the SW that are about to be sucker punched. I'll explain. There have always been only two forces in Nigerian politics since the Yar Adua saga; those against zoning and those for zoning; both these power blocks originated from the PDP. All other parties have largely become puns and bit players (knowingly or otherwise). The principal actors on the pro-zoning side are Atiku and IBB. Their strengths? Atiku controls Ciroma's NPLF, IBB controls ACF and the Northern Stakeholders. While other less visible pro-zoning PDP members and ALL members of the cabal (Turai, Ruma, Aliero etc etc) have decamped from PDP to CPC, the likes of Atiku and IBB have stayed behind, ostensibly to have an ear to the ground. However, both mens supporters and machinery has since moved into CPC. The groundswell for CPC has little to do with Buhari, whose party has been stealthily hijacked by the Yar Adua cabal. It has become the devils party. In my reading, the next piece of the jigsaw is to rid CPC off Buhari and his rigid style; in his place, the morally flexible ex-EFCC boss would do just fine (not that Buhari is a saint, its just that Ribadu is proving to be much farther away from sainthood). To that end, the Northern consensus candidate nonsense has been reborn, but this time, as an anti-PDP animal. Its the classic wolf in sheeps clothing. After this weekends election, we will see strengthened calls for the consensus candidate. In the fast paced realignments, it would also become plain to the discerning, that Tinubu has sold the SW to the devil. I am 70% sure that the move that started with Babangida's dinner and ringing endorsement of Ribadu, will end with the sidelining of Buhari and mass movement of CPC machinery to ACN. That, people, is the real sucker punch; being sold to MKO's killers for a nickle and a dime. -Beaf |
koruji:Oga mi, don't be deceived by high level political shenanigans and dribbling moves. Your analysis is couldn't be further from the truth, but that is the aim of the players. PDP says no run-off in presidential poll By Festus Owete April 1, 2011 03:18AM The acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Haliru Mohammed, yesterday dismissed claims that there will be run-off after the April 9 presidential election, saying President Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the party, will have a landslide victory. Mr Muhammed, in a meeting with journalists in Abuja, said none of the other presidential candidates has the political stature and spread to win the election. He stated that having gone round the country to campaign, the PDP will secure majority of the votes that will be cast by Nigerians. "We have gone round this country. We have campaigned. We have interacted with people and from all indications, our candidate is very well accepted by majority of Nigerians," he said. "Therefore, there is no doubt in my mind that President Jonathan will win with plurality of votes; that is the majority of votes cast will be for PDP. And then he will get the required 25 per cent in two-third of the states and FCT. Downplaying the chances of other candidates, especially Muhammdu Buhari, Ibrahim Shekarau and Nuhu Ribadu, the PDP leader said most of them are non-starters in the race. "The three opposition candidates are struggling to go round the zones; we have gone to all the zones; we have candidates for all the elective offices; they don't have the spread but what they have is propaganda to create doubts," he said. "The PDP is fully prepared and is convinced from antecedents from 1999 that PDP is the only party that is accepted by Nigerians from the North to the South. The only little victory the opposition has won, was through the courts but if the people reject you and you go to court, what type of victory is that?" http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/Metro/Politics/5686756-146/story.csp |
Buhari and the mirage of anti-corruption Written by Ebenezer Adeniji Friday, 01 April 2011 Statesmanship is defined by an impartial concern for the public good. It also has a lot to do with the content of such a leader’s personal values. Globally, religious zealotry and ethnic jingoism clearly do not fit well as edifying values. This is why some watchers find Nigeria, and the Nigerian political space, somewhat strange. The value system of some of our national figures could be so overly diseased, and parochial; and rather than odium, it earns them praise and worship. For all that the late General Sani Abacha was and represented, it was bizarre that a section of this country lionised him. The production and selling of Abacha’s images in this part of the country is still strangely a brisk business, leaving one to conclude very strongly that, indeed, the major divide in this country is not situated in geography, but in thinking processes and value systems. The issue here is General Muhammadu Buhari, who has been angling to rule Nigeria in the past eight years. Buhari has been riding on the wings of just one point - purity from official corruption. Buhari has misled the man in the street, to believe that a clean slate on corruption is just all it takes to be a competent leader and a man of ideas. Without undermining the critical place of integrity in governance, Buhari’s score-card as military Head of State, between 1983 and 1985, firmly leaves one with no doubt that personal integrity, and competence, can be as far apart as the North and South poles. Buhari, as Head of State, amply showed that an indolent office secretary, who can be trusted with everything in the office, including office pins, has no more value than the efficient one with itchy fingers. PresidentJonathan has been around, only for nine months. Buhari ruled this country for close to two years. It will profit the system, if Nigerians, and the voters, should challenge Buhari on his achievements in government as Head of State. It is on record that from 1979 to 1999, no single investment was made in the power sector. This period included Buhari’s time in office. What steps did Buhari take on the country’s social and physical infrastructure? Buhari talks about the Midas touch, he will bring to bear on governance from May 29, yet does not feel any moral pinch, for his tactical side-stepping of his 1983 to 1985 score-card on campaign grounds. In productive climes, Buhari would never wish to breathe a word on the political scene, but this is Nigeria, a country of anything goes. Buhari’s relevance in today’s political equation rests squarely with Islamic activism. Buhari was the mastermind and cheer-leader of the blood-stained Sharia law campaign in the Northern region. It was murderous campaign, given the massive destruction of the lives and properties of southerners in the North in the wake of Sharia implementation in the states of the region. In the lead-up to the 2003 general election, in which he contested for the presidency, Buhari sent out a call that Muslims in the country should be guided by religion in their voting pattern. As the dangerous religious campaigns against President Jonathan flourished in mosques in the North, in radio stations in the region and by text messages, Nigerians, including Sule Lamido, governor of Jigawa State, a neighbouring state to Buhari’s Katsina, traced the ill-wind to Buhari. For Buhari’s supporters, it is just enough that Buhari is not corrupt, and more compelling to those of them that support him among the northern Muslim population is that he is a northerner, a champion of Islam, who wants to take power back from a southerner, and an “infidel” Christain. These ethnic and religious contents are entirely the drivers of every single support Buhari gets in the North. But for the larger health and well-being of all Nigerians, these must be seen and treated as the active ingredients of religious radicalism, terrorism and national security risk. Even in his campaigns in the North, Buhari’s attitude and style have been ominous. His northern political rallies come across more as religious revivals than political campaigns. Aware that he is a symbol of Islamic activism among his people, Buhari addresses his northern supporters, only in Hausa language, and would often not even bother to address the developmental challenges of the people. Buhari can do these among the northern youth population that converge for his rallies and get away because, he well understands that their presence was entirely motivated by religion, Islamic struggle and not governance issues. If religiousness is all it takes to drive a country on the path of productiveness, development and service delivery, then let the supporter of APC take over in Darfur, Boko Haram in Nigeria, the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and Al Shabab in Somalia. Let Sharia take over in all Muslim countries, and Canon Law in those of the Christains. May Al Queada over take us all! But competence is the issue, and Buhari failed woefully, pathetically on this score between 1983 and 1985. Buhari despises the elite of his people, remaining ominously aloof, rigid and forebodingly one track-minded. These are all red flags! Nigerians should be circumspect. This man may not be corrupt, but there are certain alarms about him. Buhari clearly transmits red signals in the polity. It is clear that apart from the states of the North-West and North-East, his Congress for Political Change (CPC) would hardly earn 25 per cent of the total number of votes cast in the remaining states of the federation. By implication, two zones just cannot earn Buhari the presidency he is looking for, no matter their voting strength. As a fledging one-man party, his CPC also lacks a strong national presence, organisational and structural framework needed for strong political in-roads in all the states for a victory in a presidential election. It is also evident that the Buhari’s personality and character profile are assets to him only among the Hausa-Fulani of the North-West and partly North-East, and strictly for the Muslim population of the two zones, but a heavy personal baggage on him in the entire South, and the Christain-dominated North-Central, with a low population of the Hausa-Fulani stock. These scenarios promise yet another presidential election rout for Buhari. The huge worry is whether his CPC supporters, whom he has weaned on violence and religious bigotry, would allow peace reign after Buhari had gone down on April 9. Nigerians have been fed excessively with the issue of Buhari as lily-white to the extent that many now throw up. But I wish I were a presidential candidate. With all these debates, I would have given anything to have a one-on-one with Buhari. I would have loved to tell him to his face that the Lateef Jakande’s $60 million metro rail project for Lagos, which he cancelled immediately after he over-threw the Second Republic, has now accumulated a debt profile of over $3 billion for Lagos State, making the state the most indebted state to Paris Club in the federation. I would remind Buhari that Gbolahan Mudashiru, his Military Administrator for Lagos State, alerted him on the clause in the contract agreement that would yoke the state to this debt, if the contract was cancelled unilaterally, and that he replied Mudashiru, that he didn’t care a damn. Though the fund for the execution of that project which would have given the people of Lagos an intra-city light train transport system would not have come from Buhari’s Supreme Military Council, General Buhari, as Military Head of State, cancelled this wonderful project of the state government, with ethnicity on his mind. Buhari’s action of jailing Dr Alex Ekwueme, then Nigeria’s vice president, from Anambra, and keeping President Shehu Shagari, from Sokoto State in a house arrest in Ikoyi was also ethnically fired. So also was the shorter end of the stick he handed the South, as chair of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), in the execution of projects. Presidential race: Ribadu better than Buhari—-Adamu Song From Kenny Ashaka, Jos Friday, April 01, 2011 Former national leader of the Alliance for Democracy, (AD), Alhaji Adamu Usman Song, has declared that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is better than General Muhammadu Buhari. Ribadu is the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) presidential candidate. Buhari is his counterpart in the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He submitted that the North was incapable of stopping President Goodluck Jonathan even if the ANPP presidential candidate, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Ribadu stepped down for Buhari. Song told Daily Sun, “Looking at the northern candidates in the presidential race today, I believe Ribadu is better than Buhari any day, anywhere because whatever sentiments the North is expressing, Ribadu is in that class. Ribadu represents a generational change. As a young man, he has all it takes because he has never been there. But Buhari was there before. We saw how Buhari prevented people from doing their basic responsibilities.” Excerpts: North cannot stop Jonathan Lawal Kaita is only expressing his right of expression about the North which he is entitled to. But definitely, Kaita cannot speak for the whole North. He may speak for himself and, may be, his household. How can the North stop Jonathan from winning the presidential election? The North cannot stop him from winning. How are they going to do that? It is unfortunate that Kaita believes everyone in the North thinks the same way he does. There are people in the North who can look at Kaita in the eyes and do the right thing. In any case, which North is Kaita talking about? Is it the North that defeated one of their own, the so-called Northern Political Leaders’ Forum (NPLF) candidate ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the PDP presidential primary? Why can’t these people learn lessons? You fielded a candidate at a mere shadow election and lost. Is it now that all northerners in the party are supporting their candidate that they would win? Did they see the result of the primary election from the North at all? The statement quoting him (Kaita) as having said that they are going into the election with everybody drawing his sword and that only God knows how many people will die is very worrisome. You can see how our elders do not think about peace, their children and grandchildren but themselves. After them, they do not care whether the world would continue or not. Ribadu, better than Buhari If Buhari is destined to win the forthcoming presidential election, he doesn’t need anybody to step down for him to do so. Did Alhaji Shehu Shagari win the 1979 election by somebody in another party stepping down for him? If it is Buhari that Nigerians want, they will vote him. Whether anybody steps down for Buhari or not, if he is not destined to win the election he will not win. Looking at the northern candidates in the presidential race today, I believe Ribadu is better than Buhari any day, anywhere because whatever sentiments the North is expressing, Ribadu is in that class. Ribadu represents a generational change as a young man. He has all it takes because he has never been there. But Buhari was there before. We saw how Buhari prevented people from doing their basic responsibilities. Having said all these, I believe that for the sake of the unity of this country we pride as our own, Jonathan should be given the opportunity. We should stop these sentiments about where somebody comes from at elections. That will no longer work in this country. People should stop being old fashioned because ultimately what Nigerians want is a performing President anºšd not a President pushed there on sectional or tribal sentiments. God bless Nigeria. CPC ran the worst campaign The campaign teams of the five prominent candidates that have not much problems are those of the PDP and of course that of the ANPP. The presidential candidate of the CPC is the worst of them all because wherever he goes, he spreads problems and brings chaos. For the candidate of the ACN, he lacks proper organization. So, basically, our problem is with the candidates from these two parties. The PDP has fared well apart from the Port Harcourt problem; otherwise all the other places they have gone to for their campaigns have been incident free. Most of the political problems and bombings we are having are associated with the two political parties especially the CPC. It is not the responsibility of INEC to examine the conduct of the supporters of any candidate or political party. That is the responsibility of the various parties. Handlers of these two parties should begin to educate their supporters on the need to shun violence because the experience of Nigerians during the campaigns has shown that the tendency for violence is more on the side of these two parties and I believe they know it. Many governors, legislators will go I believe in the ability of Prof. Attahiru Jega. But with the way things are going and the recent discovery of the Police about some people operating within the INEC to do and undo some candidates, I believe that before the elections, those areas would be smoothened. From my reckoning and with a man like Jega, coupled with what they have put on ground, certainly some governors will not come back. The non-performing governors should move their luggage out of their government houses now, because the era of not allowing votes to count is over. There is nothing they can do. I also foresee a combination of members of the prominent parties in our legislative arm of government. I believe that would be good for Nigeria because the legislature will then be a true reflection of the wishes of the people. That would be democracy in the true sense of the word. I strongly believe that a lot of the governors and legislators would kiss the ground http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/apr/01/national-01-04-2011-008.htm |
Isnt it funny how Idiagbons picture is much bigger than Buhari's in the article picture? Its an apt illustration of how Buhari was just floating in ineptitude, simply happy for the pecks of head of state, while his deputy was his boss. |
I enjoyed the article indeed. Jonathan is one man that has impacted my outlook on life with his calmness, wisdom and tact. The days of the Yar Adua saga saw me watching in awe at just how powerful and effective these simple tools could be against raging wolves and demons in human skins. GEJ has a lot to offer Nigeria; he is the right tonic to reclaim the Nigerian psyche from years of abuse by military jackboots. Go GEJ! ![]() |
