blacksta:The non-implementation of laws is a symptom of the fundamental malaise that makes Nigeria a chaotic place, which is the lack of structures and frameworks. Laws cannot be enforced without such things, because they form the real meat on the bone, giving direction to laws (which can sound meaningless on their own), providing legal guidelines and necessary checks and balances. The proposal is squarely targetted at the high tech sector and should provide meat for inventors and other creative Nigerians in the tech area to chew on. |
naijababe:Murtalla, Buhari, IBB, Obj and Abacha were the best of friends. All men served in Obj's and Murtalla's govts; IBB served in Buhari's govt, IBB raised Abacha in his palce and Buhari served in Abacha's govt; Buhari also served in Obj's govt. That is the ugly group of men that led Nigeria into her present tragedy. |
blinx4real:IBB and Atiku are already in Buhari's camp, it is all over the news. Its the same old rotten smell. |
DrummaBoy:This is fanaticism, not debate. It is the mouthing of meaningless rubbish that you memorised, have no proof off and cannot defend. Dude, the GEJ camp is built on solid intellectual foundations, not this sort of crap. |
DrummaBoy:Hated by who? Threads like this one pop up all the time from Atiku, IBB and Buhari supporters (those men seem to attract the same sort of person). I have an extremely low opinion of those of you who go around hating others with a different political view to yours, but it seems to be based on the fanatism the Buhari camp is built on. The fact that you have registered a brand new id to start this thread, only points this out as another negative enterprise. That same fanatism finds expression in the mouthing of meaningless cliché’s like "change." What doesa the camp mean by "change?" It surely doesn't include enabling modern developmental pathways. So far, all I've heard is an aimless desire to crush corruption without the intellectual understanding of what its foundation is and how that is rooted in Nigeria's criminally faulty federal structure. There is an unwillingness (called political naivety) in that camp to realise that to bring down a mighty beast, you need to understand it and approach it with cunning, or it will crush you. The failure of that camp is evident in its weak philosophy to erase corruption. There are few plans to do things in a different way by changing the federal structure. Buhari hopes that he will do the same old thing the same old way and by sheer luck, things will come good. Even his plans to tackle corruption are vague and empty. Going with the allusion of a mighty beast in the earlier paragraph, Buhari has told us that he is going to kill it by simply enforcing laws. But there are reasons why those laws were easy to circumvent. No? Buhari has not told us how he would change the habitat of the beast to prevent it coming back after he has left the scene, or putting up a tremendous fight back that will see him destroyed (the man has no tanks this time and lacks diplomacy to tackle the NASS). That said, even if he was to have some degree of success, the effects of mindless coercion don’t last very long. The moment he exits, corruption will pop up again, then what? . . .Another wasted 4 year term achieving nothing?! Buhari lacks the intellectual sophistication to think in modern ways in this new digital World, he also lacks the intellectual sophistication and tooling to conceptualise and strategise in the 21st century. Nigeria is crying out for a different direction, and Jonathan is way beyond all other candidates. |
Jonathan is the only one man that can take Nigeria into the modern age. He is doing it in so many ways, from sponsoring the freedom of information (FOI) bill, signing the human rights bill, signing the minimum wage bill, freeing up the political space, sponsoring the petroleum industry bill (PIB) etc etc. There is a lot of vision in the man! The impact of a digital economy bill would be nothing short of tectonic. We would have structures to facilitate an indegenous gaming industry, an indegenous software industry, attract the possibility of manufacturing electronic hardware locally, the creation of indegenous idea's on par with facebook and bluetooth etc etc This is an Earth shaking move by GEJ that will propel the country toward development in ways we cannot yet fathom. Way to go! ![]() |
Bill on digital economy coming, says Jonathan NNEKA NWANERI30/03/2011 00:00:00 President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday called for the enactment of what he called the ‘Youth Digital Economy Bill’ to speed up Nigeria’s digital economy. He said the bill, when passed into law, will provide a means to harmonise, enhance and integrate digital creativity among youths. It will also enhance potential for earnings for digital inventors, marketers and other stakeholders in the new digital economy. Jonathan spoke in Lagos at the official launch of the Youth Empowerment and ICT Foundation (YEIF), sponsored by the Jim Ovia Foundation. He was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaji Baba Umar Farouk. Jonathan said: “To digitally empower the youth for leadership, all stakeholders must be able to operate under a legal framework whose goal will be to assign responsibilities and expectations. “In line with this trend all over the world, enacting a Youth Digital Economy Bill will facilitate our integration into the thriving world of digital economy and propel our youths as leading players in the African digital economy. “As Nigerian youths are known for their ingenuity and creativity, what they need from us is the enabling environment which the bill, if enacted, has the enormous potential of fulfilling.” http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/32252.html |
Jonathans astute politics have "zoned" Ciroma's wife into his camp! |
A final rally for Jonathan Mar 29, 2011 By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor . . . One of the most ironic twists of the grand finale rally was the appearance of the National women leader of the party, Hajiya Maryam Ciroma, wife of the leader of the Northern Political Leaders Forum, NPLF Mallam Adamu Ciroma. Introducing her to the podium to make her speech, the announcer made sure he announced her full names as Maryam Adamu Ciroma to drum to the hearing of all that even though the pro-zoning leader of the NPLF may be against Jonathan but that his other half was full in attendance at the Jonathan rally. Mrs. Ciroma added a humorous tone to the affair by equally introducing the candidate as Dr. Goodluck Mainasara Jonathan, adding the hausa name as a way of indicating to her hearers that Jonathan was an acceptable candidate in the North. She went on to praise the candidate praising his sensitivity to the needs and demands of Nigerian women. . . . http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/a-final-rally-for-jonathan/ |
deluxecad:Buhari made the application that took Nigeria into the OIC, IBB only completed it. I created a thread that quotes academics and universities here as proof: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-624604.0.html |
We have had no end of reckless statements from CPC, they have only toned down since they were warned that nobody is to big to pay for inciting violence. Before that warning, we had everything from Bakare's implied "set yourself on fire" (as in Tunisia), to his "wild-wild North" and Buhari's clanger to alamajiri's, "lynch election riggers." Tell me who an "election rigger" is to an almajiri? Its basically holding the Northern non-almajiri populace in terror, "if you don't vote Buhari, you will be killed." The only part of the country safe from that threat, is the South, because Buhari has near zero support and there are no almajiri's to threaten people at polling stations. |
timbuk two:Your first paragraph is a wild dream indeed. Dude, GEJ has not promised anybody anything and will not sell Nigeria to the devil, unlike Ribadu and Buhari in their new attempt to sell us to the cabal. I keep hearing stuff about, "let the emirs take your money." Lol! Emirs control the Imams, who control the mosques, which control the almajiri system, which controls the almajiri. Emirs also deslike Buhari. Dude, almajiri votes can be switched overnight. They don't even know why they are voting anyway. |
If violence is your trick, think again. |
Nigeria set for deployment of troops 48 hours to election Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- As part of the efforts to ensure violence free elections, the National Council of State (NCS) on Tuesday endorsed the deployments of troops to the streets 48 hours before the elections. The council said the move was to checkmate any form of violence during and after voting. The council further warned against ethnic and religious violence during the polls as government was determined to arrest and prosecute offenders. The general elections will commence on Saturday with the National Assembly election. Those who have nothing to do with elections were also advised to remain in doors during the voting period. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was also at the meeting to brief members of the council on the preparation of the commission. The council is made up of president, vice president, the 36 governors, former heads of states, former Chief Justice of the Federation. Former President Shehu Shagari, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Mohamoud Buhari, Ernest Shonekan were present with only former Military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida been the only absentee. Briefing State House correspondents, after the NCS meeting, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Hafiz Ringim, Inspector General of Police (IGP) alongside INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega also said electorate who wishes to stay behind after casting would be allowed to stay; he however warned that anyone caught disturbing the peace and flow of the elections would not only be arrested but would be properly prosecuted. “Forty eight hours or more before the elections there would be increased deployment of mobile policemen, conventional policemen, and other law enforcement agencies as well as the military. This is with a view to ensuring that no chances or opportunities are allowed for thugs, rogues and vagabonds in other to make proper efforts to disrupt the exercise. “Apart from this deployment, at the polling unit, there shall be police and other law enforcement agencies whose duty it is to proper conduct of electorate and voters as well as security of voters materials as well as INEC officials. “There shall be patrol in and around all voting areas by armed policemen as well as armed military offices. The fact remains that this country as well as the law enforcement agents representing this country are determined and will not allow any act of thuggery, any act of violence and any act that would disrupt the conduct of free, fair, rancour free, peaceful as well as acceptable general elections. “For the avoidance of doubt I want to make it clear that anybody within the vicinity of this election process that is found to be doing any act or conducting themselves in any manner inimical to the peaceful conduct of this election shall be arrested and shall be prosecuted. “The much talked about distances or that people would be allowed to stay or not, they would be allowed to stay there as long as they conduct themselves peacefully and not otherwise. Anybody that is found to be in a position to threatened the conduct of the election shall be arrested and prosecuted". The IGP however lose his cool when journalists wanted to know what the police leadership is doing to ensure impartiality of the police personnel deployed for the elections, saying journalist are use to asking “unreasonable and irresponsible” question.” Speaking also Atahiru Jega, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the electoral body had finalized arrangements to ensure a free, fair, credible and violent free elections. “I made a presentation on behalf of INEC to the council on the state of preparedness and in summary, INEC is now well prepared, well position to conduct elections which will go a long way to satisfy the aspirations of Nigerian for free and fair elections. We have prepared adequately in terms of logistics, in terms of the training of our staff and in term of effective liaison with security agencies in order to provide security before, during and after the elections. “There is a lot that have been put into this exercise and we plead for the support of all Nigerians to make the elections free and credible and to also make them non-violence. We preach peace and we want to work towards peace and to ensure there is no conduct on election day. “I am very please that one of the key issues at the council of state today was the commitment of all stake holders to promote peace, to promote non-violence and to ensure that voters are adequately educated.” INEC Chairman also noted that actual voting will commenced 12.30 after the close of accredidation which he said would end by 12 noon. He also warned that anybody that comes after the set time will not be accredited; adding however that anyone on queue would be allowed to vote irrespective of the time. “Anybody who isn't on cue for voting after 12.30 pm won't be allowed to vote. We are fully prepared for the election that is coming next Saturday," he said. While urging to Nigerians to ensure violence free elections, Jega said NCS “assurance of full commitment to ensuring that the election is free, fair and credible." He also urged every voter who is accredited to vote to do so without any fear or favour stressing that if they chose to wait to allow their vote to be counted, they must be law abiding. Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki who is also the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum said the governors had made commitment to peaceful election and they stand by it. Danjuma Goje, governor of Gombe State contributed, saying people who stay back to foment trouble at the voting centers will be prosecuted. He maintained that security operatives will be on ground to handle any breach of peace during the voting time. Goje said President Jonathan assured the council of his commitment to conducting, a free, fair and credible election and call on all political actors to cooperate with election officials to ensure that the elections were violence free. In his own contribution, Peter Obi, governor of Anambra State said the council urged all stakeholders to put the nation first in whatever they do especially in their utterances during the election period. timbuk two:Lol! GEJ wasn't ever looking for a deal! He's goal was to scatter them, look at what has happened to NPLF, half of them have gone with GEJ. Dude is very politically astute, people keep calling him names, and he just keeps right on defeating them. What battle has GEJ lost? He always wins quietly and people only realise the fact long after. GEJ's next target is to cut Buhari support backbone in two. He has foraged far and wide in the North, gathering all the leaders into his camp. I can imagine that there will be a push this week to completly suffocate Buhari's support base. Buhari totally lacks skills and will be used as the greatest weapon against himself. Sit back and watch. ![]() |
monkeyleg:There is a huge difference between seeking peace and security, and hankering after a corrupt and bigotted ladder to office. It is on record that the cabals condition to deliver their own side of the bargain was that GEJ sign a document which was inimical to Nigeria's wellbeing, but beneficial to their pockets. I don't need to tell you why the talks failed immediately the odious demand was made, its all over the news. GEJ never sign Nigeria to the devil, what about Ribadu and Buhari? It seems they already have. |
timbuk two:You guys stun me! In the same breadth as you cry for blood over corruption, you also cry for preferred candidates to flock with the cabal and other demons. Do you really have the interest of Nigeria at heart? Something is terribly wrong, its called hypocrisy. As for "game over," ask Atiku. ![]() |
IMHO, immediately after the elections, these fellows should be locked away. |
dayokanu:Hmmmm! Last I heard, Ribadu and his VP were having dinner with IBB, who enjoyed their company so much that he endorsed them. Things didn't end there though, Ribadu and Buhari were last sghted holding meetings with Ciroma's NPLF, IBB and Atiku to decide the next Northern consensus candidate. Hmmmmmmm! |
When my candidate wins, the army will come out in its full force and glory, and those preaching violence if they lose will be unmistakably quietened. ![]() |
When will Buhari come to the South? |
heilige:What about ACN and CPC riggers? An ACN man was caught with Anambra states "election results" just a couple of days ago. Or is PDP being pointed at out of sour grapes, because it is the most popular party and unsporting fellows from other parties are jealous that they hold federal power? Free and fair elections are a collective responsibility. Go with your camera and phone to the polling booth, use twitter, facebook etc. But if you are violent, chances are you'll get shot, cos there will be no smiling in election security this time around. |
swiftycool:He might be "jacking books" while the others are eating tuwo instead of addressing Nigerians. Thats why GEJ will make a killing today, the others just don't give a damn about the country. By the way, NN24 has a miserable 2.500 subscribers. The BON debate by contrast, will be open to tens of millions by radio and TV. |
One is running for governorship and the other for the highest post in the land, yet the chasm between their utterances is deep and wide. Comparing Buhari's statement with Oshiomole's is like comparing kindergarten and university. Oshiomole's words are what we expect from a leader, encouraging, telling us how to help ourselves and the country, and what the benefits to society are. Great guy! Buhari's words on the other hand, always tend to be inciteful and unbecoming, he always completely disconnects himself from any responsibility to the country, and lays the blame at the feet of others. Leaders don't do that. |
Darthmaul:That is dead and buried. Lewis is regarded as nothing short of a miracle by ALL team bosses. Lewis and Alonso were in the same team with the same equipment in Lewis rookie year. . . And look what happened! ![]() That is despite being told to be Alonso's helper. I recall diplomatic angry Lewis was in Monaco that same year when he was told to slow down and allow Alonso win (handing leadership of the championship from Lewis to Alonso, as well ), not only that, his pit stops were obviously compromised. The FIA indeed investigated McLaren after the race, but the good thing about Lewis is his head is never going to get bowed, and after that, he set out to beat Alonso fair and square. Lewis is way way above the other drivers, both in car craft and maturity, here's what he said after the Monaco race (even if between clenched teeth): "I tried to attack him and wanted to win if I could, but I have to accept that I am in my rookie season and he has number one on his car and I have number two. I am the second driver and so I must accept that and respect that for the team."http://svenschindler.typepad.com/trinity/2007/05/index.html . . .Telling words. A bit more about Monaco: "But after the race, Ron said to Fernando: 'Be nice to Lewis because we had to (pit) stop him early.' And Fernando said: 'What do you mean? I was just cruising.'http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2010/05/alonso_overreaching_in_reargua.html Now, some quotes by those in the know about both drivers: "Lewis is clearly a very special driver. We have never seen anything like this in F1 before. It's almost inexplicable. I think the word phenomenon just about fits. It makes you think maybe there is a god after all. He is a great story not just for Ron [Dennis] and McLaren, but for everybody involved in motorsport." "The thing he really hates is being beaten by his team-mate, and when it happened with us he could be come irrational - I suspect that will be the same again," he said.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/6655491.stm "He said that Alonso used to throw his toys out of the pram when things didn’t go his way, but because he won in the end it was okay, but in Hamilton “he has run into a brick wall”. |
